Been trying to paint in a loose style. I am self-taught beginner…loose is more difficult. Your video has inspired and taught me how to better my technique. Thank you so much.
I really don't like bugs and other creepy crawlies lol but Bees, Butterflies, Ladybirds and Dragonflies are lovely. Just found this lovely video, thank you 😊
@@EasySundayClub lol could be because they are so pretty, and I am in awe of how those big fat bumblebees manage to take flight, I love watching them in my garden 😄 Best wishes from the UK.
Awesome Cathy! Just found your channel and am so impressed. I’m an advanced beginner bordering on intermediate. I’m rounding out my first year as a self taught watercolorist. I learned so much watching your video. Somethings finally clicked for me with the way you presented the instructions. I’m going to give these lovely dragonflies a go. Thank you for sharing. Blessings to you!
sorry to be so offtopic but does anyone know of a method to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly lost my password. I would love any tricks you can give me
@Sebastian Angelo Thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im trying it out atm. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
I was waiting for this one! Thank you! But it looks easier than it is. Definitely takes some practice. Would love more of your tutorials like beluga maybe or a sea turtle!!! 🥰
I enjoyed this video. I love the look of these very pretty and light dragonflies. I really want to try this. It’s funny, I was going to ask you if you had tried hot press paper. I just tried it myself. I did a painting of a fawn that went okay but when I tried to put in a wet background wash it was showing every single brushstroke. I tried not to panic. It was really difficult to try to blur and soften the background and eliminate the brushstrokes. I ended up using a soft dry brush lightly all over to knock down the edges before it dried and that helped. Cold press is a lot easier to use.
Thanks for watching this tutorial! I agree with you on hot press paper. I know some more detailed/realism painters, portrait painters and illustrators prefer hot press. I really tried to like it but I think for the subjects I usually paint (animals, landscape) and my style, cold press just reacts to the paint better.
These are beautiful! I would make a card for someone with it. Please do more nature videos not necessarily flowers. Everyone seems to do flowers. Other beautiful animals or insects would be nice. Thank you!
I use multiple brands but mainly Arches and Winsor Newton cold press. For beginners/practice paper the Fluid watercolor pads are great and inexpensive.
You need to use a granulating paint. Some granulate more than others and some not at all. If you do a search it will be easier to find those that granulated. Wish she would list her Paine brand and name. ❤
Thanks!
Thank you for our first Super Thanks! :)
Beautiful artwork!! Please share more dragonflies and other insects
Amazing. Please teach more. You're very good at explaining the watercolor process.

On instagram if you have it and tag me :).
I love this, I have been trying to get looser in my watercolour painting and it is really helpful watching you do this piece, thank you!
thanks for your feedback! I thought simpler silhouettes like the dragonfly is a nice way to ease into painting loose.
thank you so much... love the tutorial....
you’re welcome! enjoy painting!
Very nice thank-you
Fantastic 👌👌

This was beautiful! I love this style of painting. I am a beginner and hope to be able to do this one day. I can’t draw 🙁
Hope you will try this sometime. The dragonfly has simple shapes and is beginner friendly, you may just surprise yourself :).
These are beautiful! I would make a card for someone with it. Please do more nature videos not necessarily flowers. Everyone seems to do flowers. Other beautiful animals or insects would be nice. Thank you!
Thank you Janet. That’s true everyone seems to do flowers! I’ll stick to animals :).
Glad I found your channel.
thanks, more tutorials coming!
More watercolor please.
👌
Thank you for your tutorials. Can you provide a copy of your sketch for students to download and have ready.
great idea Lynette! I’ll keep that in mind next time.
Love your dragon flies. What brand is the Teal you used and is it just called teal or does it have another name?
I believe it’s cobalt teal by winsor newton.
Can you tell me what brand and name of the teal you are using. Mine do not granulate like that. Too many comments to keep searching. 😅
Sure! It’s been a while so I don’t remember exactly but for this I believe I used Cobalt Teal by M Graham and mixed in a bit of Vert Turquoise.
I am a beginner to watercolor. Do you draw your dragon flies before you paint them?
I do a light and rough sketch. For future tutorials, I’ll make them darker so people can see them better :).
Those are its front legs, actually ~ dragonflies don’t have antennas😉 Absolutely love this and your technique❣️
Oh how fascinating, thanks for sharing! I always learn something new when I paint a new animal :).
What brand of watercolor paper do you use?
I use multiple brands but mainly Arches and Winsor Newton cold press. For beginners/practice paper the Fluid watercolor pads are great and inexpensive.
Do you have dragonfly sketches available?
not for this one but it’s been suggested before so I’ll include it in future tutorials!
💕💕💕💕
What brand of paper and paints are you using
My materials are listed in the video description :)
Why can't I get that crackled effect? :(
You need to use a granulating paint. Some granulate more than others and some not at all. If you do a search it will be easier to find those that granulated. Wish she would list her Paine brand and name. ❤
What is an "organic" painting?
I meant spontaneous/unstructured, maybe wrong choice of words.
👍👍👍💕💕💕🇩🇰
Thank you :)
Beautiful!
