You are a young man who felt the message he is sending. Simon and Garfunkels original version was a warning of what was to come if we didn’t change. Disturbed’s version is rage that we didn’t heed that warning. Now we are glued into our phones and technology instead of each other. This is my favorite version! Great reaction!
People are feeling this song now more than ever. I cry every time I hear it- even the two times you played it. My soul is crushed these days- this song speaks to it.
I have listen to this version countless times and still cry. We need to wake up and change before there is no going back. S&G wrote and sang the song, but David Draimin gave the song emotion and brought it to life.
As someone who was fortunate to be living at the time, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel first released this song in 1965 I remember the happy tones and peace it gave to those weary of the Vietnam War which started in 1955 and which was still being fought. It was a protest song against the war which many felt we shouldn't have been there, it wasn't a war but a police action the United States was drug into. Paul Simon was so impressed with David Draimin's version of his classic song that he sent David a letter congratulating him on an excellent rendition and gave his blessings. No one had any idea that the song would become as poignant as it is today. The years since it's debut filled with commercialism, technology greed and destruction of the real world and it's inhabitants are amplified and brought forth in David's rendition, we all have succumbed to the disaster Paul and Art sang about, and are rapidly losing conversational skills with others, secluded away in our own personal little worlds with our tech and are losing track with what matters when we are able to share with others. Your reaction was perfect, mine was the same when I first heard it by David, and I cried also, heavy tears for all we have lost to reality, to the neon God we made through the decades. David did Paul and Art true justice with this cover.
I believe it was written in 63. Shortly after JFK was killed. So much going on at that time. I think you're thinking of another song referring to the war at the time. The song is the eve of destruction. I would to hear what disturbed could do with this song. Sounds of silence is all about the inability to communicate. Best to stay silent.
As someone who also grew up listening to S&G music and is looking at the album here from my record collection, I have to correct you a little bit. From what I remember, Paul Simon wrote it in 1964 during the aftermath and in regards to the assination of John F. Kennedy. But, it also applied to the war. Thecrest of your explanation is exquisite!
Never apologize for your reactions! Your reaction is so honest and REAL. I still get an almost visceral reaction when I hear this song; tears, goosebumps, such a sense of sadness of where we are as a people. Right now. It breaks my heart. Thank you for this. Never EVER lose that beautiful heart of yours.
YEEEEES YES yes yes yes... I have watch almost every reaction to this song.. I love the power and deliverance of the message and performance in this song. Its almost like the finger of God is pressed upon his heart, so we are able to receive it with so much conviction that it awakens ones soul. I've watched how its left the receiver, stunned, amazed, dumb founded, scared and afraid. There are very few, like you "weeping" which I believe weeping is the highest, your able to receive it with an open heart where its reached our very soul, spirit, heart and mind. Awesome reaction.
No doubt that other commenters have informed you that the singer is David Draiman. I've just watched both of your reaction videos to this song and your reaction was pretty similar to mine! The wow, the tears...I had and still do get goosebumps when I hear this song and I've listened to it hundreds of times - including an eight hour repeat session! Truly love it! I had some soul searching to do and dare say you do as well?! Because of Disturbed, I go to see people instead of calling or texting them, listen to them and talk with them! Thanks Disturbed! And David Draiman! And thank you for your reactions to this song! Listen to it and act on it - the message to me is clear! Put the phone down; walk away from the computer and spend time with family and friends! Loved your reaction!😍😘💖
Thank you for your wonderful reaction. If this song does not move you then you are already dead. Thank you also for the fantastic work you nurses do at this difficult time. I am sure you are an exceptional nurse as you seem to be a caring human being. Wear your heart on your sleeve always.
Amazing! Wow! Finally, someone who reacted the same way I did. You don't know what to say and neither did I when I first heard it. Mr. David and Disturbed put out the best cover ever. Ever! I'm 73 and heard this several months ago on the TV series, "The Blacklist." I had to find out immediately who sang it and I've been hooked ever since. Grew up on the original Simon & Garfunkel version but it was so darn beautiful and I was pretty young and quite honestly, I think the message got by me. However! I got this message this time!! Thanks for your reaction. It was even better than I had hoped for! Ha!
finally an reaction/music artist who feels this song and expresses how they feel about it like I do when I first heard this song I cried I came into shock when I heard it was disturbed... to me it's my favourite rendition and out of that this live performance is the best i've seen such control softness and power and rasp (I can hit his low notes and high notes but I need to get vocal training for rasp as i'm a baratone myself and don't wanna damage my vocal chords from attempting without formal training) tbh I still well up from time to time when I hear it!
He sat for this performance because he had bronchitis and wasn't sure if he could make it through. he comes from a family of trained cantons and his voice is truely a gift from god
@@foxymacadoo -David Draiman: "The fact that I was sick as a dog (laughs). I remember I was definitely fighting something off, but it was a cool experience. It was cool performing with an actual orchestra. It was really vibing and the mood helped, I think, enhance the delivery. The stars just aligned that night and everything went right."
I loved your reaction to the song, was similar to mine. It's like emotional disbelief as to the magnificence of what you are listening to. So much more authentic a reaction than those who like the way he sings but are unaffected emotionally... not to criticize reactions that are not emotional, but this is like great opera and it's cool to see it touch people so deeply that they cry a bit. I heard this version for the first time today... been a very long time since anything has made that kind of impression.
Such a beautiful reaction again to this song. I told you and I think a lot of other people that is a whole different experience to listen to the live version. And do not worry, most of us also cry when we listen to David Draiman singing this song and the other songs I told you about in the commet i left to your reaction to the official music video you did a little while ago. Please try those songs too. This man is David Draiman, the lead singer of the heavy metal band named Disturbed. He is a gift of God to broken souls on earth. Just like Dimash, Davids voice is unique and heals the souls of those who listen to him sing. And if you think this made you cry, wait till you listen to Hold onto memories or Already gone by Disturbed. Those are really touching. Also do not forget about the song A reason to fight, first the official live version and then the official music video. The official live version will make you cry an ocean. That is for sure. About you saying he uses his voice as a weapon they have a song, Droppin plates in which there is a line: You are gonna fight the war and use my music as a weapon. Your remark made me think of that song and that line, cause they are actually in a war againt human cruelty no matter what form comes in, from discrimination to politics to media to mental health. They are in a peaceful war to bring hapiness to people and to help people overcome their crisis and problems. Also i highly recommend you to listen to the song Never again. Once again I left a long comment so I am sorry for taking so much of your time.
Man, I managed to not cry listening to "Sound of Silence", but I couldn't help but cry the first time I heard "Hold on to memories", cause I listened to the words and started thinking about my uncle who recently passed away, and that was mixed with Draiman's both technical and emotional voice. When I heard "Take the ones you love/Hold them close because there is little time" I started crying a little. Then come those parts when he sings "But they're never really gone/As long as there's a memory in your mind" and "Hold on to memories/Hold on to every moment/To keep them alive" and I burst in tears
I grew up with that song... hearing it for the first time when I saw the film the graduate aged 16 in 1980f. It followed me for many years: the lyrics are so powerful! But then came Disturbed. And the song took a whole new meaning with this interpretation: Paul's premonitory dream turned into a rallying cry to transform our world that is sliding towards annihilation...
Every time I hear Disturbed's version of this song I can't help but get emotional. Especially the Conan performance. Brings out my emotions every time no matter how many times I have heard it.
Loved your emotional and beautiful reaction to this; I felt this way when I first heard David sing as well. You have a new subscriber; stay safe and be well!
I listen over and over and over and over … he is delivering the message of the song in clarity and profundity that is earth shattering. It’s about the MESSAGE … the dream is how we are meant to be living. It’s a brief sermon delivered perfectly!!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
David's voice is a LIQUID GOLD... and your reaction is a PURE GOLD because it comes from your heart. I was DISTURBED and became an instant HUGE FAN after I watched of the two videos the visuals and the live performance. And just like you I cried from start to finish of the song. The official video to this disturbed version now has almost 700,000,000 views on UA-cam, Paul Simon said on his facebook page when hearing this version on Conan , "Disturbed now own this song".. high praise indeed.
The true power of music in its rawest form. But listen to what the words and meaning and the song as a whole it is saying in your heart that is were the tears come from. He is just delivering it to you where it matters most. David was meant for this moment at this time. And Im writing to you in 2021. This was not a performance but a moment.
It’s also crazy that you said “he uses his voice as a weapon” because that’s what he says , he “use his music as a weapon” 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

This song leaves you speechless!
The true power of music in its rawest form. But listen to what the words and meaning and the song as a whole it is saying in your heart that is were the tears come from. He is just delivering it to you where it matters most. David was meant for this moment at this time. And Im writing to you in 2021. This was not a performance but a moment.
