Hey guys. If you're wondering where I have gone, have a look at my community tab or follow me on instagram at instagram.com/rpeacockfilm/. I'm releasing my own action film here soon, along with being writer on a new Bruce Willis-starring action film, so Rossatron is for now taking a backseat to that.
It’s certainly promising the likes of Chad are pushing the genre to new limits that not only provides even more visceral thrills but also properly serve the story
Finally Rossatron is back. At least with Ross busy Scott Adkins had a lot of great interviews in the last couple of months and filled that void for me. His interview with Chad Stahelski was great, and cover a lot of the same ground. After Stahelski is finished with the John Wick films he should make his Unforgiven to the John Wick films, as Unforgiven was to Clint Eastwood's and other western. A hitman film with realistic and brutal action that de-mystifies that type of film.
Simple the portrayal of action is the best thing about john wick movies.....and i loved each and every one of the john wick movies....waiting for chapter 4
He's supposed to be working on an adaptation of Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips comic series Kill or be Killed which seems the perfect place for Stahelski to explore those more realistic, scary action sequences he was talking about.
The kind of realistic/cathartic action he talks about towards the end would be a great video subject. It's been a long time since I've seen them, but The Hunted and The Duelists both had scenes where the action and consequences *felt* real. I can't tell you how irl realistic they actually are. An action scene that can make you tear up is hard. I made an attempt in my most recent short film, and I really hope that it'll come across when it's all put together.
I was thinking that too. A real nail-biter of a shoot em up film by Chad oddly enough sounds like cinematic heaven haha. It truly has been a while since a cinematic gunfight felt scary.
The Duellists is incredible and can't be plugged enough. The realistic restraint of the swordplay makes it feel so dangerous - you can feel the horror of a sharp, naked blade and someone holding it with the intent to kill.
Great interview. Chad Stahelski has an appreciable honesty and self-awareness, such as through his admission that there are so many dozens of headshots in John Wick that the kills are meaningless or that the individual scenes don't necessarily make sense but do entertain.
What he mentioned closer to the end, with realism and a gut punch, that’s my goal with the main work I am doing right now. It’s obviously gotta be fantastical, but I want you to get invested and have this sense of dread that she is going to fail as the weight of the end goal ripples outwards. Does she or doesn’t she succeed and the importance of success moves away from strictly being about her to being about the world at large. If she fails, things don’t change and no one will realize how close change was, but if she does succeed, that success ripples outwards immediately.
Quite possibly your BEST to date!? The candor that Chad has with you is awesome. That snippet of him teasing us all about an actor he's wanted to work with for 20 years, that plays a pivotal role in JW4 and on top of that, the recent news that not only are we getting a 5th in the franchise, but that it's likely BOTH sequels will be filmed back to back has me salivating even more than the next two Mission Impossible films even! WHO COULD IT BE!? Was it someone big in the industry then, someone he has never worked with? Someone that may or may not be attached to any number of Keanu's projects back then? The possibilities are endless for sure. Thank you again Rossatron for this and by all means, continue to bring such videos as its quite a fitting evolution to your channel and your own aspirations career wise, all seems to be going very well!
Eeeeh.... LIke the fight choreography of hte first half is pretty good. Harlee Quinn taking on the cops/evil bikers is the highlight of the movie. The last fight scene is pretty terrible.
Dude I'm so happy for you. All this analysis and incredible content creation and now you got to talk to one of the best action directors in the game. Good shit
Rossatron, wow, a great interview. I like what you did with the questions you gave the Chad enough space and room to breath and give his answers, kudos. Also from this interview you can really see that he is a humble guy which is always a great thing. Since there are plans to do more interviews do you think you would be able to get interviews with old school directors about some of their classics? (To name a few McTiernan, Friedkin, Besson, Hill etc.)
Congratulations Chad I hope you remember me with Guro Burton Richardson’s USC Kali-Silat Club back in the late 80’s. I’d remember training Sinawali with you doing the Abaniko 6 count. My middle daughter can really keep up with me especially with Sumbrada and she can even free flo. I’m sorry I’ve been so distant. Congratulations on your accomplishments in cinema especially the John Wick series.
Had a small chat with an actor/stuntman/martial artist last year that i'm a big fan of, says he knows Chad personally and wants to be in Wick 4 and i REALLY hope that's who Chad is talking about in the interioew
It’s incredible to me that this video isn’t blowing up. I mean, this is The Dude! The guy who’s given us some of the most competent and entertaining action in the past 20 years. WHY aren’t people eating this up?! Travesty. Thank Rossatron, because it’s wonderful to have this brilliant interview in the world, an insight into the mind of a master. xx
If memory serves, unless I dreamt it, Chad Stahelski was at one point attached to direct a Highlander reboot. His worldbuilding skills would fit the series perfectly. I’d also love to see what he would do to expand the creativity of the sword fights.
I mean Chad particularly sets up in the martial arts genre. so if we are also counting RAW action directors, then trust me there are a LOT of great western directors out there. Chad is not the only best one
I love your videos because they are educating and entertaining. I came here for dnd inspiration on werewolves and was not disappointed since. I learned things I nerver thought about and it let me enjoy action in stories and movies much more since i can appreciate the work behind it much more.
Fantastic video!! I'm always taken back by your videos on cinematic action. It's easily my favourite genre of film as well and it brings me joy knowing someone who can demonstrate action in film as elegantly and as eloquently as you do! Also I hope you could do a video about some of the other Iko Uwais films (other than the Raid) such as Triple Threat or The Night Comes For Us. They have some beautiful fight scenes. In particular, thje fight between Iko Uwais and Joe Taslim is downright jaw-dropping!
Could you analyze Mattew Vaugh's direction of action in the next video? I love that your channel focuses on the direction of the action choreographies of the films and their design.
Of course he's been involved with the Marvel movies. No wonder the physical fight scenes from Winter Soldier and Civil War were the best in the franchise. I always wondered why...that was really cool to know Ross-a. Keep it up!
@@EldenRinging Wow so cool😎. I 💖Chad so much. Thanks, but I only know english and some spanish. Dont be afraid of coronavirus cause there are millions of ways to die someday we all have to die someday. God doesnt give us the spirit of fear. Trust in God during these bad times. Still practice safe routines of staying safe everyday. We are the bride of Christ first. We are spirit beings on a human journey. This body is a hotel until we die. Have a blessed night 🌞🙏😇🌚🌛💖🤗
Having a movie with that 1% realistic action would be tricky since you still want to both entertain the audience but also have the audience empathize with your protagonist, if not by their motivation (John Wick: avenge puppy) then by their physical exertion and, most importantly in this case, pain and consequences. You get kicked in the shin? Then you'll be hobbled and won't be chasing after someone for very far for a while. You've been punching a lot? You're not going to then be hitting consecutive headshots from 20m away. Even just evading and dodging attacks takes a physical toll.
took me a while to watch this interview. But Now I got curious about who he teased for JW4... Looking at IMDB I see that he got both Hiroyuki Sanada and... Donnie Yen... Now he just have to get Jackie Chan in on it as well. Maybe for JW5? :D
I wish chad stahleski would direct one of the Tom cruise's mission impossible movie.I 100 percent believe tom cruise's team n Chad's team collaboration would make one of the world's best action movie.
YES!! DANCE!! It's dance, and I feel like the line between fight choreo and dance choreo hasn't been fully exploited yet. Action Musicals can be pulled off, I swear to God they can.
