This is so mind blowing. I’m amazed this show isn’t considered a total gem, thank god for the internet otherwise stuff like this would fade into obscurity.
My heart goes out to Otis who enthusiastically hosted this final episode of the show after Hoss Allen couldn’t on the count of being so distraught from the show being cancelled (he drank himself into a stooper the night before). Thanks to him for even making this possible
you are so right. Never knew this existed until today 2023.
Hoss clearly loved this music and believed in the show. I was unaware of the circumstances around the last episode.
An absolute treasure ! When I first discovered this gem , I was so blessed to be able to obtain the entire series on DVD . It busted my budget , but I never regretted my gift to me !
This should be in the Smithsonian
Yes i agree totally
100!
This is real music. All these great musicians on one show. It don’t get no better than this.💙💜💛
Total facts
Garnet Mimms, damn what a voice. Perfect.
Otis was a beast!!!
Way ahead of his time
@caracasboogie Caracasboogie, just think of how famous OTIS REDDING would have been, in about 1978, (ninteen seventy-eight) if he would have been living, and GOING STRONG.- Wow, too, too, unbelievable.
All legendary acts on this program hosted by the great Otis Redding. Wow, what a show!!!!
EVEN OTIS HUMBLE!!!! GOD BLESS ALL THE MUSICIANS & SINGERS ETC...DEAD OR ALIVE!!!! WHAT A LEGACY!!!! #RESPECT
Holy crap... this show had some real stars!
Dammeh! This was like the All Star Show! Ottis, Percie, Sam & Dave, Garnett, Pattie LaBelle & the Bluebells! Wow
what a monster singer n performer:patti labelle!!!!
The talent on that stage
Wow..Otis Redding in color
Sensational. What a line-up. The whole Stax-Volt package. Atlantic soul personified in it's absolute unadulterated, undiluted prime. What a fantastic remastering job here.
It's not even close to being the whole STAX/Volt package. There are only two STAX artists here. Sam and Dave, and Otis.
Mitty Collier was a Chess Records artist, Percy Sledge-Atlantic
HOLY SHIT.. what a treasure of killer live music!!
REAL R& B !
Hard to top that line up...
BRILLIANT!
Johanakermyr1437, that was the top.-Period
I love this show and the real talent . I grew up as a teenager listening this wonderful music. A poor boy from Regina Saskatchewan Canada ..
Los blancos con su rock y rock and roll pero el soul quedó muy marcado aparte. Aqui quedó demostrado. WOW
WOW WOW WOW! An All-star show for sure! They grabbed the best contemporary R & B artists for this one! Never heard Over the Rainbow arranged like this. Thanks Rachel!!!
Hello Johnnie, your most welcome :)
@@rachelcummings2705 Percy Sledge toured South africa, about 1969, for the first time. This was at the height of the apartheid days. He played in a coloureds only theater in Cape town. Only coloured people allowed in the theater. He was a huge star in SA, amongst all races. White people smeared their faces with black shoe polish to get in. Strange story, but it's true. Two yrs later the government gave permission for him to play in a whites only theater. Another strange story, obviously only white people allowed in then. Roy b, Cape Town, South africa.
✨️Patti LABELLE✨️ and the ✨️Bluebells✨️ start at the 16:46 minute mark ; so I'll remember to come back many times for this ✨️supremely outstanding performance✨️ 🎉🎉✨️✨️🙏🙏♥️♥️🎉🎉🙏🙏.
all the giants in one show... wow
I remember this show! Otis Redding hosted that night because Hoss Allen was told his show was being canceled he got so intoxicated and passed out Otis had to host. Love me some Otis Redding he should've had his own show great host. R.I.P Otis and to all of the the singers that has passed on from this show.
Yes , the show was Hoss Allen's dream . He had a drinking problem and was a bit tipsy on several of the shows . The show was sold to individual TV stations and was refused by many stations for reasons known to anyone who knows history . Hoss did realize his dream , if only for a short while . Hoss , may you rest in eternal peace and thank you for the wonderful gift you left to us all.
Great show. Otis was a natural host♥️
what a blessing listening to these all-time greats on one programs, thanks Mrs Rachel ! corona 2020
great footage of otis redding,my fav soul man, excellent show
My grampa is the yellow fella playing the trumpet .... ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️thank you so much for uploading this.
That's so cool!!! Yaaa.........my Gramps was only part of an amazing 60's soul band, nothing that cool or anything.😉 This is true American music history and should be in the Smithsonian. You should be very proud.
You’re lucky!
What is his name ?
The line up for this episode is amazing!!!
SAM AND DAVE. WOW !!! AMAZING VOICES ❤🤗
I want that Sax players suit !
The last episode of "The Beat" and honestly the very best! A forerunner for Soul Train which came 6 years later!
Well this was supercharged show. Thanks for sharing. Loved Otis Redding.
I was around 13 then living in Lowndes County Al. Very Poor They Made us Feel good about our self
Sadly, this dynamite show was The !!!!Beat's last. According to his Wikipedia bio, Bill "Hoss" Allen was so distraught over the show's cancellation he got too drunk to host, so Otis Redding stepped in. This classic musical showcase matches the equally iconic Shindig! and these online streamings and DVD recordings thankfully preserve the truly fantastic popular music explosion of the '60s.
Garnet Mimms unbelievable voice
i dont remember seeing this show back in the 60s and was a kid back then. And my parents always new when we as "colored people" back then were going to be on tv
we use ti get the "Jet"magazine.and turn to the back of the page.thats where you would find out which shows on tv were hosting blacks
I think it was a local or regional broadcast. I think it was the best music show ever, anywhere. Wish it would have taken off.
Texas
Memphis..every Friday night at midnight..I believe ch 5...Otis and Sam and Dave from Stax records..basically all southern soul..ovations..Percy sledge..mitty collier.. garnett mimms..wow all of these names from when i was a little boy...does anyone play horns anymore..
One of the best lineups ever on THE !!!! BEAT. But they're all good, with plenty of Freddie King episodes.
This is the same band that accompanied Otis on the British READY, STEADY, GO! show in 1966. That performance and the James Brown T.A.M.I. Show performance from 1964 are the best ever!
Real deal talent with no BS . Love it and thanks for sharing.
WoW! fantastic!
The drummer with Percy Sledge at 5:28 is Jaimoe who would become the Allman Bros drummer
Oh the Ovations! I love the Ovations.
It's really great to see these fantastic shows with so many soul legends...Great footage, thanx a lot!!!
I was young!!!! It's just...... wonderful!!! Thank you so much!!!!
From Argentina , I love this music. Thank you Rachel!!!!
Wow much much talent!!!
Great color videos! Thanks for posting. Great artists.
Brilliant
Classic Soul..
I got a video of Freddie King on this show years ago, and thought it would be great to see it. Thanks, Rachel, for giving me the chance.
Great acts Esther Phillips, Little Milton and many more presented by Hoss who is clearly loving it all.
After watching all 26, I can't get the intro out of my head
yes the intro is one of those that kinda sticks !! Thank you for dropping by and commenting :)
Rachel Cummings Thanks for posting these videos. I love watching this show!
Oooo Percy I felt that!
@@AdrianDeVore
Eu também agradeço a Rachel Cummings por postar esses shows.
Eu também adoro esses shows.
Essa é a verdadeira história, e a verdadeira raiz da música 🎶 negra norte americana.
😋😋
Why did they cancel the show The Beat
Oh wow! This show was so good.
I sure wish I could've been in that studio with all those horns.
Yes, Cindy definitely stood out supremely.
OMG! Thank you 4 this, This is Amazing!!! L41A :)
Fun fact: lead singer of ovations is father of Memphis rapper Playa fly🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾〽️〽️〽️
Otis Redding がホストだったとは。
mercy mercy, percy percy
this is awsum....real deal...
There is music like this anymore. That.was good music.
This was the LAST show...legend has it that Hoss Allen was so distraught at being told the show was being cancelled that he got drunk that night and couldn't host the show...being that Otis was already scheduled to be on the show he ended up hosting the entire show
DRROCK HADLEY ON LEAD GUITAR UNCLE LEROY HADLEY
Carl Hadley Awww man Lee Hadley today is still a beast on the guitar..I know cause I've been on the stage with him..The Night Shift Band,
what happened to Gatemouth ??
Gate had his own career to tend to.....
reading the otis book right now
Ironically Otis says, "...three young ladies..." when Patti Labelle & the Bluebells were still four members. They would go on to their greatest success with three members.
The other acts here are good but Patti n The Bluebelles brought the heart to it!
Straight outta Philly !!!!
WOW!
God bless you for this channel Rachel!!!
+Luke Ratray Thank you for that kind comment suga :)
How come Sam & Dave's performance of "Hold On, I'm Coming" wasn't on here, Rachel? Thanks for these entire episodes of a great show!
Just look at the footsteps taken by Dave from, THE SECOND he walks out there at, 20:57, to, 21:04. It was BEAUTIFUL HOW EACH STEP WAS EXAAACTLY with the music beat. EVEN THE LAST FOUR TAPS with his right foot was EXACT, at 21:03, and, 21:04. That's the mark of a true professional, who knows about music. Dave is the one who comes out last, of the duet.
Thanks for posting all these shows. Great stuff!
Some of the cream of the mid 1960s soul, r&b and blues acts.
Thank You So Much for posting! wonderful dancers, musicians!
I remember watching this program when I was a child, can you get any more soul packed in 30 minutes? ❤Damn 😮
WHAT A LINEUP! AMAZING! Thank you!
Insanely good. How the Ovations singer does Sam Cooke, for starters.
Then he turned up in the late 80's in this Bobby Womack video. That's him at 3:17 standing next to Frankie GAye - Marvin Gaye's brother!

Over the fence for a homerun.Love the dancers.

Lindos esses programas, parabéns pela postagem, thanxs from Brazil!!!
reading the otis book never thought youtube would have this show but LOOK wow thanks!
Hi Rachel, might have been a long time since I said hello but I just mentioned your wonderful channel to someone yesterday. I doubt a day goes by The !!!! Beat doesn't cross my mind, nor a week that I don't watch something from it.
Hello honey, Thank you :) I don't seem to get much spare time to come on here or any other site due to work :( It's wonderful to know that these shows are appreciated by yourself and others, Hope everything is well, your friend Rachel.
For sure, I see people using your videos all over Facebook. People all over appreciate them. I've been collecting them from Bear Family, slowly; I have four now.
wow! Discovered the best last night and watching all episodes now! Thanks for this
Legendary Performances
This should be on that golden disc that we sent out to the aliens on the Voyager space probe.
Just discovered you last week. LOVE The !!!! Beat shows & so grateful for you uploading them.
Here in the UK, much of this music is still loved & danced to each weekend on the Northern Soul scene, so seeing it live like this is a huge treat for us. ❤
The great Elbert Woodson on drums, one of Otis's best road drummers
recordguy4321 Yes correct :) One of the reasons I wanted to upload full shows so that many of the unfamiliar artists could be seen/heard also this includes The Beat Boys, members line up changed but Billy Cox was one of the bass players, when the show ended? went on to join Jimi Hendrix (Band Of Gypsies/Hendrix Experience) now well famous.
Yep Billy was in the band for probably half the shows, good one Rachel. I've had these shows on VHS third generation for years. Thanks for uploading. A REAL TREAT!! Of course Gatemouth Brown just shines on every episode.
recordguy4321 Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown was a Blues Music Legend !! He had already recorded for the Peacock Label through the 50's. By 1965 he was working with producer William 'Hoss' Allen, and recorded a single for Hit Sound Records, another for Hermitage and an Album for Chess Records, all featuring the band that would later appear on The !!!! Beat. Gatemouth went to Europe for the first time in 1971 and was an instant success. Since then has recorded for Alligator, Rounder, Gitanes and many other major and Indie labels. Sadly died back in 2005. Thanks so much for watching and the kind comments.
i've got some of his 78's,and was lucky enough to se him him in the late 80's. True legend
Also pre Allman Bros Jaimoe on some songs
amazing channel. just subscribed.
All star line up
Then as now, alot were gr8, some so so, n some shouldnt have bothered.
Have to add this! I've always wondered what the hell Mr. and Mrs. Sledge were thinking hen they named him Percy???!!! When a Man Loves a Woman hit the charts "stage names" were still common, and one print commentator remarked "Percy Sledge has to be his real name!"
This....Brings true tears from this grown mans eyes, for All of t💔he Memories-‐--‐‐--❤️🩹
I love Mr. Percy Sledges hairstyle. Kind of looks like Jimmy Ruffins from that time. When I here "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" it makes me think of Otis, at home with the Heavenly Father.
Last show :-( What a lineup for the grand finale! Otis Redding had to host the whole thing because the Hossman just couldn't do it.
