  • The motor is removed from this Singer 766 so that the motor mounts can be inspected, along with the motor brushes.
This model's motor is mounted with the shaft horizontal and a toothed belt to drive the top shaft. Some other models in the series, such as the 726 for example, have the motor mounted with its shaft vertical and the drive gear directly meshes with the top shaft drive gear.
The design allows for easy removal of the motor for inspection.

I am so grateful for you doing this series of videos on the Singer 700 series, especially getting the motor out. With the pin on the left of the motor I can't for the life of me get it to move further to the left. It is definitely free moving but will only move to the right and then not enough to get the motor out. Do you have an suggestions on how to get it out? Thanks.

Hi Ya. You have produced some excellent tutorial videos for the uninstructed of the World like me. I need to change the bushes and block on my 760, but cannot find the part numbers. Can you share these please, and a source where I can find other part numbers as needed please… such as the needle threading hook which is also broken on my newly acquired machine. Many thanks in advice Sir.

Hi In Stitches. VERY clear as always! I'm finding it difficult to source replacement motor belt tension adjustment blocks. Could you give me any pointers, please?...also the plastic 'gismo' underneath the Hook which comprises part of the bobbin-winding mech', please.
    Many Thanks

Thanks. I have the motor block parts in stock but can't help with the bobbin winding part sorry. I don't think they are made any more.

Thanks for a great series of videos. I checked out the clam shell foot controller on my 720 after something went pop, but nothing seemed amiss. Tomorrow I'll be removing & checking the motor brushes & capacitor. Will it be a 240v brush type as in your video? Thanks again for all the excellent stuff on UA-cam!

@@InStitches Many thanks for your prompt reply M. On further examination of the foot controller I'm wondering if it is OK. Looking at the 'D' shaped plug, contacts facing me & the flat at the top, I'm getting a reading of 240 v from the left to the bottom terminals, & from the bottom to the right I'm getting 110v with pedal half down , 150v with pedal right down. Surely, full depression should give me 240v. Is it common for a fault to develop with the large carbon variable resistance. Thanks for the link to the dodgy capacitor video.

What are the plastic "bits" you mention at 2:28 and where can I get new ones?
