When you laser weld like that aren’t you only welding the surface of the ring and not through to the center? I imagine it would crack at the joint if enough pressure was applied to it.
It’s hard to see, but if you look close you’ll notice I start with the rose gold filler wire in the center of the ring below the surface and build my way up from there. That way it’s solid all the way through.

Way more copper used than I originally thought to make rose gold...ring looks beautiful. Speaking of gold, will there be a release of the full making of the Gold Rush sub box?
Cosmic Rider well...not really. Like I said, he could have used 18K just as easily. That’s why people should go to small jewellers and not big name brands. Then you know exactly what your getting, what the cost is etc. With no middleman or excessive marketing.
Mesmerising. I am watching this daily. Rose gold looks premium. I have saved this design. Want one in 22K yellow gold in same finish. What is the ring inner diameter ? And thickness of the ring ?
Completely surprised that you shaped this instead of cast it. I know nothing of ring making, just what I expected to see when I started the video. Is there a reason to not just pour it into a mold?
How do you get full penetration of the weld? No offense, but it looks like you just put a bunch of tack welds around the periphery and left the interior un-bonded.
So there is less gold than copper in this ring? Why is it a gold ring and not a copper ring with a little bit of gold. 0:47 The end result is very beautiful though!
After realizing how much 6.25g of gold costs...can you do a video on silver alloy making and or a video like this but for silver. I want to get into this...and if possible how to attach a crystal to it (round cut)🐠✨️💍🙏
Hey Patrick, do you still have this ring in particular? Because I wanna ask if it hasn’t corroded, caused by “galvanic corrosion”. This occurs when a base metal like copper is “connected” to a noble metal like gold and silver in presence of an electrolyte like water o sweat, specially in rings.
Just out of curiosity, but wouldn't it be easier to just melt down all the metals and then cast them in a ring shape, instead of rolling it out numerous times, and then having to solder.
Getting the mold of accurate size, and having to worry about the shrinking and cracks outweighs the ease of casting a block and making few of these..now he has a material enough to make few more if these in different sizes.. Custom rings are usually of unique size too
I didn't know rose gold was made most of copper. How's the price comparing to same size of 24k gold ring? Just curious. No Juli, Honey its not for our anniversary if you reading this some how. You're reaction is 9/10 smeagol when I say something about "ring"
They don’t make jewelry from 24k gold because it’s not durable enough. So it’s usually between 10k and 18k. So the prices you’re used to seeing for “gold” jewelry should be roughly the same for rose gold.
Patrick Adair Designs I have experimented much with homemade alloys as you have (on my Chanel you will find such videos), but I have not experienced consistent results, nor consistent successes. Generally, alloy mixing is best left to the professionals. I buy 24K and premixed master alloys now.
