Thank you for this. It was a joy to see it years ago when it was first uploaded, but now is saddening to watch, when we see what's happened to the planet. As one of Bruce's other lyrical lines states: "You see the extremes, of what humans can be?"
Again...an awesome job on an extremely underrated song by an extremely underappreciated artist. His brother was my doctor for a while and I had the pleasure of having lunch with Bruce back in '93 when he was visiting his brother here in town. He's lost more intelligence than all the rapstars have altogether.
"One world -- one human race swimming in an ocean of love." I loved this video, Jon. There were lots of unexpected clips that were very entertaining. Great job! Thumbs up, of course and into my Favorites. Love, Sandy
Hi Jon, Really great video that went perfectly with the lyrics! It made made me smile more than a few times. I also like "If I Had a Rocket Launcher" by Bruce Cockburn. ~ Gary
Well done! Of course, I have my own images of this fine song whenever I hear it, but to see someone else's take, and to discover that the video remains true to the song, that is fun! Thank you. Bruce's work takes on even more resonance as we watch the rise of the corporate state.
Thanks Mike! I agree Mr. Cockburn has had relatively few hits and is relatively under-appreciated....though of course, he has a pretty hardcore fan base. So cool his brother was your doctor....and even more cool you had lunch with him!
Jason...you must check out some more of his work, seriously top shelf stuff....I would suggest the album this track was from as a great starting place. Thanks so much!
Wholeheartedly agree. Also to MGM: I'd like to thank you for your effort in putting this video together. You've encapsulated the essence of what Bruce was trying to convey. Well done!
You're welcome. I'll have to check it out. Do you have more videos of his music? I like most all genre of music, from rock, to jazz, to the Blues, etc. Thanks for posting.
Step outside, take a look at the stars Catch a glimpse of the way things are Making contact, making contact Making contact, making contact Smell of sweet fresh oil on skin When you move on me like the tide coming in Making contact, making contact Making contact, making contact So many ways to understand One for every woman and man Been that way since the world began I hear the drumming of the surf and I have to dance Stepping to the rhythm of circumstance Making contact, making contact Making contact, making contact I feel so huge, I feel so small I feel so good I want to swallow it all Making contact, making contact Making contact, making contact So many ways to understand One for every woman and man Been that way since the world began Making contact (swimming in an ocean of love) Making contact (swimming in an ocean of love) Making contact (swimming in an ocean of love) Making contact (swimming in an ocean of love) We move together like the waves (swimming in an ocean of love) Every night and every day (swimming in an ocean of love) One world, one human race (swimming in an ocean of love) One kiss from a smiling face (swimming in an ocean of love) See that sign coming into view? (swimming in an ocean of love) Mother sea welcomes you (swimming in an ocean of love) Making contact (swimming in an ocean of love) Making contact (swimming in an ocean of love) Making contact (swimming in an ocean of love) Making contact (swimming in an ocean of love) Making contact (swimming in an ocean of love)
If anyone bought both the cassette version and then bought the compact disk of Waiting for a Miracle you would have noticed that Making contact was added as a bonus track. I was expecting to use it for vacation slides
Well, that IS a great tune...and I just checked and it's sportin' a truly awful official video, so...you know I'm gonna think about it some. Great suggestion....damn, Bruce Cockburn has so many great tunes!
Hey MetalMan? Would you consider doing one of your incredible projects for B.Cockburn's powerhouse lyrical masterpiece, "People See Through You"? Only you could pay it the respect it deserves. It's a truly prophetically potent musical story about the political condition of our enslaved society.
Yeah, ain't that some piece of shit video when one considers the psychological depth Bruce reaches with his lyrics for it? I had lunch with Bruce a couple of times when he was passing through to see his brother John, who was my doctor here for a few years. He's gone now so Bruce doesn't come this way anymore. He was pretty quiet and private about travelling but what an insightful and intelligent gentleman. I will never forget the hours we spent shooting the bull about our worldly views.

Awesome music! I've never heard of Bruce Cockburn before.
Still love hearing Carole Pope singing backup on this. This album had so many hits that were played on Canadian radio--a classic!
Jon
Like your intrepretation of contacting with others and nature. Especial like the giant tortoise. --John
If I worked in a contact making factory I would listen to this on repeat all day every day.

One of the great songs on Stealing Fire
The whole album is great. We all need to keep kicking at the darkness, till it bleeds daylight.
