Prince Phillip was not granted the title of Prince Consort, its actually not a title consort means spouse of a Monarch, l think for our King, it was about Camilla's acceptance as Queen our media and a lot of the public took our late Queen's statement literally and Michael Middleton's was born into a wealthy family, there are politicians and aristocrats in his background. Carol's paternal grandfather was a miner
@@lsmith9249Yes you are right Under British common law, a wife always takes the rank, style and titular dignity of her husband as a courtesy-the feminine form of her husband’s title. That means any wife of a King is automatically the Queen. Among the first female sovereigns, the notion of jure uxoris was applied. Jure uxoris, Latin for “by right of his wife”, traditionally allowed a man to take on any titles, land and responsibilities that might be inherited by his wife, in the rare cases when this did happen. For example, through some complex and not undisputed arrangements, Anne Beauchamp inherited the Earldom of Warwick and its considerable estates in 1449 after the death of male-line heirs. If she remained unmarried, she would have had the capacity to own and control the property as if a man. However, as she was married to Richard Neville he became jure uxoris the next Earl of Warwick and the possessor of its estates. This was a standard (albeit horribly patriarchal) arrangement in which a husband assumed control of that which belonged to his wife, including any substantive title she may have possessed on her own. Elizabeth II and Prince Philip When Elizabeth married Philip he had ceased using his princely title as a Prince of Greece and Denmark. These were derived from his grandfather George I (King of the Hellenes, i.e., Greece) and his great-grandfather Christian IX (King of Denmark). Although it is often remarked that he had renounced these titles, there is no evidence of a renunciation given in Greece and effectively he had simply ceased using them. Philip did, however, receive titles and styles that gave him formal recognition in the realm in a form not enjoyed by Prince Albert. As a peer: George VI created him Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich with the style HRH, and Philip took his seat in the House of Lords in July 1948. [2] But not as a prince: Although George VI commanded Philip to be styled HRH, he was not made a Prince of the United Kingdom. This was a historical anomaly since no one had previously been styled HRH who was not a prince. It is even more curious for the fact that a 1948 royal proclamation of George VI refers to him as “HRH Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh”. And then, to complicate matters even further, a later note by George VI corrects an entry that refers to Prince Philip, indicating a deliberate withholding of the word Prince. [3] It is thus unclear if this was an oversight if the use of the word Prince was the mistake of a royal bureaucrat (because Philip was commonly referred to as Prince Philip under his original titles) or why the a lack of clarity. Later title of Prince: In 1954-55, the Queen began correspondence with various courtiers and her prime minister around giving Philip a special title as her consort. Ideas such as “Prince Consort”, “Prince of the Commonwealth”, “Prince Royal” or Prince of X” were toyed with. Prince Consort was disliked by everyone, [4] probably due to its strong historical association with Albert. Elizabeth was keen on Prince of the Commonwealth, given her very strong dedication to the Commonwealth and its member countries beyond the UK, but it was vetoed on the basis that several Commonwealth countries were likely to object, creating political difficulties. In the end, the Queen and the cabinet settled on “The Prince of the United Kingdom”.

06:54 That paparazzi photo of that kiss also surge an outrage by the public in Sweden. Not because of Crown Princess Victoria had a gym owner as a boyfriends, but rather because the press intruded of her privacy. We are very protective of Victoria, and specially back then. Crown Princess Victoria had been really sick in anorexia, and been very ill. Also the breakup with her ex was all over the media, and we didn't like how people had sold out private details about her. So when we found out she was in a serious new relationship and the press didn't leave them alone, the people of Sweden was quite upset. This was partly one of the reason that led to the press to calm down a little bit (far from enough) and but it only led to us being more protective about the couple. Sweden quickly embraced Daniel as he quickly showed us who he was, and we saw how happy and healthy Victoria was. Daniel seemed like a very secure, down to Earth, humble and caring person, who helped our Victoria on her recovery back to health. Crown Prince Daniel is just a lovely man, and they really to adore each other. We LOVE Crown Prince Daniel and couldn't think of a better fit for our beloved Crown Princess.

I've always heard people call Catherine Middleton "middle class", but considering her family background (both wealth and connections) and her upbringing, she looks quite upper class to me. Of course she is not noble, but still well above average, I would say. Just for comparison, my family is by no means poor, I am quite sure it's above average in fact, but it's not near as rich as the Middletons. Also, in the last few generations, no one in my family has had direct contact with someone really important or famous, unlike Catherine Middleton's ancestors.
I think she was born “middle class” but by the time she was in college they were rich. Her parents had their own business. Those schools she went to are enough to distinguish her.
@@Angel-ts8rc it's not only about wealth. Some of her ancestors were related to nobility. Some members of her family knew some members of the royal family personally. It's her whole social environment that looks upper class to me. Contrast this with Letizia Ortiz or Daniel Westling. There is nothing comparable in their families.
Also thought it was stupid mette marit was made to make a statement in tears by herself says before her wedding about her past when many other royals have partied and experienced youth and have been spared that cruel embarrassment.
"Experiencing youth" doesn't necessarily include hanging around with convicted fellons having babies with them. She probably cried because she knew she didn't make the best choices and was embarrassed by them. Therefore, as an adult, she has to hold herself accountable and be transparent about them. None of what she did was acceptable. She's changed now but when you make bad choices, you have to own up to them. That's life and adulthood.
@@areiaaphroditewell I was taking more about the act on a larger view of having her do that bc of the press attention though they had no problem benefiting from the exposure… a lot her life isn’t particularly shocking or terrible esp considering the frequency that Norwegians wait to marry until having children and the rate of children born “out of wedlock” and have step families. They also don’t judge her based on her previous partners as is so unfortunately common in other cultures. I didn’t say that youth and the very popular Scandinavian party culture frequently involved having partners who make choices on their own to do crime separate from you. Owing up to “bad decisions” and being held accountable usually doesn’t mean a press conference because you by chance met a prince. She partied and had one baby with someone who made their own life decisions to be a criminal. She wasn’t embarrassed about her child who she took good care of, sitting in front of press and cameras reading off a statement to try to get people to stop being rude to you is embarrassing- embarrassing doesn’t mean that one is ashamed or embarrassed of themselves. You can even get second hand embarrassment.
@Angel-ts8rc 1. True, you can't choose the choices your partner makes, but you can very much choose who you have a child with. She knew the past of her previous fiance and her child's father before they were engaged and had said child with that person, correct? Most smart people wouldn't even go on a 2nd date with someone like that. Let alone get engaged and have a kid with them. Again, stupid decision. 2. No one is saying she needs to regret her child or her child should be condemned for their father, BUT it just wasn't the best decision. Let's say she didn't get her life together (which doesn't include marrying a prince), married the drug fellon instead, and never went to uni. What kind of standard of life would she be giving to her child? A father/srep-father in and out of prison while trying to make ends meet on a waitress' salary? Some children come out of that life FAIRLY, okay, but that's a small number. 3. If she's a public figure, then yes, it would be OBVIOUS that a press conference would be the way to address the PUBLIC. People of a country who she'll be representing as their future Queen? I highly doubt she was "crying from secondhand embarrassment" because I highly doubt she's proud of the choices she made in her youth. She admitted that they were bad and she was going through a "phase." She's not a victim, being bullied by making public statements at a press conference for a matter that affects the PUBLIC of a whole country.
@@areiaaphrodite we’re making bullet points now?? In response to 1. I’m not gonna keep entertaining judgment of a woman’s previous partners esp when she was so young. 2. What do you mean “but”? There is no but, her child is here there are no regrets. She was a SINGLE mother. And had her family’s help. Do you think she lived in the slums or something? Why are you making up fake scenarios? She did work and get educated and took great care of her child. And yes she met a prince, whom she had mutual friends with…. Now what? 3. You completely misunderstood what I said about second hand embarrassment… do I need to explain it to you? I didn’t say she had secondhand embarrassment. I called the whole situation a cruel embarrassment- to me it’s that for the whole family to make the soon to be bride do that right before the big royal wedding. What I went on to say in my other comment is that if she was embarrassed that doesn’t mean she was actively “ashamed” or something, talking to a bunch of press flashing cameras in your face bc people ar harassing you to the point someone had to type up a statement for you and make you read it days before your wedding is a little awkward.
No crazier than the fact that the Kings of Emgland/Britain were at one time also Princes of Hanover in Germany - George I and George II undertook considerable travel to fulfil their obligations in both places.
WTF excuse me?! Crown Princess Mette-Marit is a lovely person who was a vulnerable and came from a unstable home, and have worked all her life to become a better person, works hard in her job, and who does so much for others and for her people. She is genuine, warm and kind. Wallis Simpson was a condescending evil nazi with narcissistic traits who conspired with the nazi's during WWII for power and control, and who was mostly interested in a care free, wealthy lifestyle where she could exploit others as much as possible without any consideration of anyone else but her self.
Yeah. Philip was a prince consort but never held the title officially like Albert did. Prince Henrik of Denmark (husband of Queen Margarete II) also held the title of Prince Consort but he complained about not being named King Consort instead. It'll be interesting to see what Prince Daniel will be titled in time
Prince Phillip was _a_ prince consort, but _Prince Consort_ was not his title. A prince consort is the husband of a monarch who is not a monarch in his own right. His style and title was *His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh* .
05:30 they say some couples merge into each other but the Prince Consort really favours his soon to be Queen Victoria of Sweden. 😶 lol they look so much alike.
I wonder if there will ever be a king consort. The idea that a male consort has to be a prince implies that King supersedes Queen and can never mean a husband to a Queen regnant.
You know, the more I learn about the other royal families & their past, the more I feel like the British Royal Family is just too stuck up. I had hope for William & Kate now I don't. There's nothing wrong with showing you're human, no matter what status you hold in this life.

What I'll say it will be brutal but truth so dont crucify me. The most tragic part for mette marit case is that shes super I'll and its possible that her children inherited that illness. So Norwegian dynasty will have not really great future. Its similar case to queen Victoria. She dropped hemophilia genes into a bunch of royal houses and noble houses.
They aren’t comparable. Hemophilia is a mostly inherited genetic disorder. Mostly because not every person with hemophilia in the family will get it or pass it on. Of Queen Victoria’s 4 sons, only the youngest got it and neither her parents nor siblings had it either. So as andypham pointed out, it was likely a genetic mutation and not something she inherited. On the other hand, pulmonary fibrosis isn’t a hereditary disease. Its causes are varied such as inhalation of certain elements (like the metal in asbestos or certain gases), the after effect of interstitial diseases like tuberculosis or viral lung infection, certain drugs/meds, heavy or long-term cigarette smoking, etc. For example, if Mette-Marit was a heavy smoker in her youth in addition to her drug use, that could have contributed to her disease now. Not saying she was a heavy smoker or smoking was the cause, just giving an example of how pulmonary fibrosis can be contracted.
This is unfair. The king's wife is the queen consort, but the husband of the reigning queen is simply the prince or prince consort. Why not a king consort? It would be logical and consistent with the principle of gender equality.
All of these Queens of Europe are actually related and one way of another marriage from a descendant of King George II🇬🇧. Ugly Prince William can become princess leonor's instructor because he's qualified to fly on a SH-3 helicopter the difference between his and the Spanish version are the paint UK version comes in yellow or the standard camouflage. Spain has the marine paint version
I'm so confused on the last part about Sophie. Who is Alois? Why doesn't he have a last name? Why is he regent? If Sophie isn't in line for anything, due to being a female, why is she included in this video? Did her husband remove her cousin from the line of succession?
Alois is the HEIR of Leichtenstein Princely House. He will be the future monarch. Sophie will be just CONSORT of Liechtenstein. However, by blood, she herself has claim to the Jacobite of the UK
Prince Harry is not a direct heir to the throne as he’s 5th in line to the throne. These video is about people who are the direct heirs to their respective thrones.

@Angel-ts8rc

I didn't realize it's been over a year since Queen Elizabeth died.
Crazy to think that if the UK followed the Jacobite succession, we would soon be in a personal union of Liechtenstein!
No crazier than the fact that the Kings of Emgland/Britain were at one time also Princes of Hanover in Germany - George I and George II undertook considerable travel to fulfil their obligations in both places.
just Britain. kingdom of England had ceased to be before the hanoverians came to rule @@lilymarinovic1644

Well well. Hanging out with drugg users opposed being around nazis, how is most saint like.
@@Wonkothenormal Prince Phillip was around Nazi’s didn’t hurt his chances
WTF excuse me?! Crown Princess Mette-Marit is a lovely person who was a vulnerable and came from a unstable home, and have worked all her life to become a better person, works hard in her job, and who does so much for others and for her people. She is genuine, warm and kind.
Wallis Simpson was a condescending evil nazi with narcissistic traits who conspired with the nazi's during WWII for power and control, and who was mostly interested in a care free, wealthy lifestyle where she could exploit others as much as possible without any consideration of anyone else but her self.
The royals of Liechtenstein are probably the wealthiest noble family in the world.
Prince Philip was never prince consort, only Prince Albert held that title in an official capacity
Yeah. Philip was a prince consort but never held the title officially like Albert did. Prince Henrik of Denmark (husband of Queen Margarete II) also held the title of Prince Consort but he complained about not being named King Consort instead. It'll be interesting to see what Prince Daniel will be titled in time
he could be "prince of Sweden" like Frederick of Hesse-Kassel was during the reign of his wife Ulrika Eleonora@@reyisawesome
Prince Phillip was _a_ prince consort, but _Prince Consort_ was not his title. A prince consort is the husband of a monarch who is not a monarch in his own right. His style and title was *His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh* .
@@RaymondHng Actually his title/style was His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh.
@@matthewmacpherson5071 Yes. From 1957 onwards, _His Royal Highness The Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh_
Let's do Napoleon's second wife, Marie?
The kings of France channel recently released a video on her
05:30 they say some couples merge into each other but the Prince Consort really favours his soon to be Queen Victoria of Sweden. 😶 lol they look so much alike.
I love royal life
Trond was Mette Marits step-brother. His late father was married to Mette Marits mother.
Ok and..
they were prolly close enough that she considered him to be her brother
Nothing wrong with being accurate about information. A lot of problems stem from misinformation or misunderstandings.
King Ludwig III of Bavaria was deposed in 1918.
Mette-Marit looks like a female version of Morten Harket from a-ha
I wonder if there will ever be a king consort. The idea that a male consort has to be a prince implies that King supersedes Queen and can never mean a husband to a Queen regnant.
Long live the patriarchy, eh? LOL
There were some.
The first two husbands of Mary I of Scotland were styled kings consort. Isabella II of Spain’s husband was styled king consort

You know, the more I learn about the other royal families & their past, the more I feel like the British Royal Family is just too stuck up. I had hope for William & Kate now I don't. There's nothing wrong with showing you're human, no matter what status you hold in this life.
countries have different cultural norms brits tend to have stiff up lip attitude meaning not showing your shaken up so it translates to serious and dutiful
@@Celestialyeontan that’s a generalization considering the growing unpopularity of the royal family and the mixed reception of multiple members in the uk. To chalk up critique of their often cold, unnatural, out of touch attitudes to “culture” is something. My English , Scottish and Irish friends are some of the warmest, most fun, down to earth people I know in life and this generalization continues to be debunked each and every time I visit England.

I find the title of queens and consorts misleading. Shouldn’t it just be consorts as the women mentioned would be queen consorts? Of course why mention Sophie of Lichtenstein at all when she will not be considered the head of/or consort of Lichtenstein.
That’s why it’s queens and consorts. Some will be queens, while some won’t
Sophie will be the princess consort of Liechtenstein someday
@@andypham1636 well, all of these people will be consorts. I just thought that the title queens and consorts was rather confusing and I guess I got rather confused when I was looking at Sophie.

King Charles III needs support in the coming months because is ill so i think all the royals in the World should show their support.
Her illnesses aren’t hereditary. Her children won’t inherit them from her
it wasn't really queen Victoria's fault though. Possibly a genetic mutation, as neither of her parents nor her half siblings had it
They aren’t comparable.
It’s because King is seen as a higher rank.

hereditary princess Sophie is not a descendant of James VII/II, as his legitimate descendants died in 1806

I'm so confused on the last part about Sophie. Who is Alois? Why doesn't he have a last name? Why is he regent? If Sophie isn't in line for anything, due to being a female, why is she included in this video? Did her husband remove her cousin from the line of succession?
Leichedtstein Royals but Sophie is also true Future Queen of 🇬🇧
She isn’t in line to the Head of the Bavarian royal family, but she is in like to the Jacobite succession
Alois is her husband, + he’s regent because Liechtenstein monarchs just make their heir regent because dying
Alois is the HEIR of Leichtenstein Princely House. He will be the future monarch. Sophie will be just CONSORT of Liechtenstein.
However, by blood, she herself has claim to the Jacobite of the UK
Oh get over it, it happened 800 years ago
The norway princess is so scandalous.

What about Harry and Meghan?
Prince Harry is not a direct heir to the throne as he’s 5th in line to the throne. These video is about people who are the direct heirs to their respective thrones.

Why? This is about future royal consorts. H is not a future monarch and M is nowhere close to becoming a consort ever.
