A lot of the randomly generated names I see are Dutch or Dutch-based, and they are very silly when you know what they mean:
"Waterverf Sea" - water paint sea
"Omringen Abyss" - to surround abyss
    "Verzegelland Ocean" - sealing-land ocean
"Amperkust Sea" - barely coast sea
    "Lusvlieger" - loop kite
    "Patrijspoort Ocean" - porthole ocean
    "Havenaanhet Ocean" - harbouronthe ocean
"Isle of Echtekust" - isle of realcoast
"Oceaankust Ocean" - ocean coast ocean
"Glinsterende Ocean" - glittering ocean (this one makes sense at least)

500 pop is when administration open up and you can tax your region for food, saves you from using your own workers for that and can use more industry (import/tax resources to craft into higher value stuff too) which will allow for rations, drinks, etc for military.
But I find its at least 1,500 pop when I can comfortably support a small (high equipment) army to begin conquest.

For sure. I only just figured out how to edit divisions. Was rocking 200 army with a population of 1700, rebels attacked and my troops couldn’t muster for the life of them, got wiped. Such fun. I love how it isn’t like They Are Billions or something and you have to restart entirely after being attacked.

If any who see this, and are still on the fence about buying this game. I will say this with the utmost emphasis, it is absolutely worth $25. I have been glued to this game. It has taken me, a veteran gamer, 7 attempts at building a city, including the demo, before finally really understanding how to manage a population enough to continue growing and growing. The UI is not as cluttered as it might appear. Once you understand how to navigate it, it works really well. I will recommend this, as it pertains to my on going successful campaign. Should you start in a region without mountains and copious amounts of mineral deposits, say on the edge of a lake, plenty of forest and open land and water access for all the food growth you want. But, no minerals? Fear not! Import all the arms, armor, bows, and tools that you need(tools can be given to specific “room” types, like brewery or jeweler, which adds to production amount daily, but costs tools to maintain that productivity. Also a good tip for early game, once you reach a population count that allows you to start really outfitting a garrison army for your city, build a small warehouse, like 60 crates, near to where your training grounds are. Why? Well, when rogue armies attack you early game, and you have warehouses all over the place and the armaments your training troops need to collect from the warehouses are spread out for some reason, it will take them much longer to muster into formation. But if you build a warehouse next to your main training grounds and only allow weapons armor and bows in it, your troops will muster practically right away. Don’t be afraid to “remove water”, where your subjects will make land where water is, this is most excellent to do to access the scrumptious fertility that would be otherwise wasted just put in the water. Set up export depots, start selling 90% of your leather to get income going. Gemstones and jewelry will be the best money makers. Once you can tax your starting region, and gems are an option to tax, do it, you will get so much money from it. Thanks for reading. Get this game.

Late game is awesome in songs of syx, being dependant on taxes and having thousands of Minions walking around, it is great.

Amazing game. Once they add more depth with your citizens and more flavor with furniture, decoration, random events (like in RimWorld) I think it will be better than RimWorld, until DF steam comes out.

ok so heres a couple tips that i've learned. i dont know why but number one always have your farms working at about 53-63 percent workload for max efficiency. im not sure if thats exact but its worked wonders for me. number two work on happiness and making sure your stats on the Goods tab are always at a plus percentile. you want to work around it and find that magic area where you're a self sustaining economy as you rise up. I tend to make sure i have 60-90 days of food before i do any infrastructure building and adding people. you're less prone to be being attacked if you do this as well because you have time to make every one of your people level 1-2 fighters in the mean time. i typically do all of this before i reach 200 people just to make sure i have a great economy.

also you're going to want to add mini warehouses everywhere. to help fuel your eaterys and other infrastructure in a more timely manor. and one giant hub in the middle of where you plan on advancing.

Towards the end of the video it says you only have 1 and sometimes even 0 days of food left but you have no one starving. My happiness and loyalty dropped horribly and people were starving left and right at 7-8 days of food left in my game. They even rioted wtf am I doing wrong

Gotta make sure the food is accessible. They'll eat out of storehouses, but it's important to make sure the storehouses are getting food taken to them (set food to GET, set quantity low at these distribution warehouses). Certain races also have preferred food and they range from disliking to hating eating stuff they don't like. Cretonians are vegans, Humans like bread and fish, and Dwarves like meat, etc. I also cannot understate how important beer is, think of it as booze in Dwarf Fortress.
Clicking on the races screen will also tell you the areas their expectations arent being met. At a certain point they dont want bunkhouses anymore and want apartments. The progression in expectations is tied entirely to race pop #. Its necessary to scale services provided with population.

Yeah but Dwarf Fortress has about a hundred times more depth... don't say its bigger than dwarf fortress just because there are more little guys running around.

@PointBlank200 Its been called the deepest game ever been made. The guy who created it has been adding to it and working on it for 20 years. But its not overly easy to get into, which is one reason the developer is reworking the interface for the upcoming steam version release. .

I'd say it is bigger in scale not depth. It is really fun though. I'd like to see more personality in the subjects and be able to assign them to rooms and jobs!

When you try to place furniture, I can tell you find it difficult to talk. I also experience that level of obsessive hyper focus when trying to place something perfectly in a room too.

But I am looking forward to more being added, the combat so far has potential but is SUPER early access and you won't get to large battles for some 4 or more hours of play.
