I'm a laser engineer w/ 30yr career, let me tell you something that might save someone's eyesight. Im not trying to tell you not to buy this - just be aware that this is not a toy. This laser has enough power that even when the beam strikes a non-reflective surface and scatters the light, it can still burn your eyes depending on the conditions. The human eye has a lens that focuses light onto the retina, on the back of the eyeball. It can focus all of the incoming light energy to an extremely small spot. In low ambient light conditions (nighttime or dark room) the pupil of the eye can open to as much as 7mm. This means that energy from the laser scatter entering the eye through an area created by 7mm diameter is focused into a spot that is only a few microns in size - worse case is a factor of one million! This easily burns a spot on the retina. It is possible, if this happens, that aside from a headache after the exposure, one might not realize the damage because the brain fills the missing spot in your vision from your other eye. HOWEVER, if the incoming light comes through the lens at an angle and focuses onto the back of the eye where the optic nerve is located, it causes instant blindness in that eye. There is no medical procedure that can reverse this.
Optical engineering has been my study in college, my career (government labs, laser manufacturing companies) and now as a consultant which includes seminars on laser safety - what I'm presenting is fact, please be careful never point laser at anyone, and when observing the scattered beam, everyone in near proximity needs to wear safety glasses designed for the wavelength of the laser being used.

Speed Racer I can’t agree with you more on that one. The protective glasses provided with these lasers are a total waste of time, they don’t even have an OD Rating. I spent £40 on a decent set of goggles corresponding to the wavelength of the laser.

“Worlds most powerful blue laser pointer” takes 30 seconds to light a cigarette
Anything over 2 watts I wouldn’t even use indoors unless you have something to shine it on as a barrier that it can’t go through like a big rock or tile or something and of course with glasses on due to the brightness there will be and because of risk of starting a accidentally fire. Under two watts you can be okay as long as your careful and not holding it at the wall at one spot for any given amount of time and also if you have a barrier which don’t hurt. Under 2 watts you can technically be okay without glasses if your super careful and only shine it on dark things that are mostly black that absorb most of the light but it’s very risky, light colored objects will still be super bright and could cause long term damage overtime, and if you hit something reflective it’s over for your eyes. And ofcourse don’t even shine it and anything living or aircraft’s or other peoples houses as it could hurt someone and get you a felony. Just looking out for y’all.
These laser should be used in rescue operations especially at sea when trying to get the attention of search planes flying above they are really bright and can be seen miles away.

hell no - any intrabeam viewing regardless of distance (because laser light is collimated) will burn your retina. It's only when the beam is scattered that it might be safe (if far enough away). Look up NHZ and MPE for detailed info.
