I've had this for a few weeks and I am FINALLY going to get to play it with friends on Saturday. Super excited... wish we had a 4th, but it'll be 3 of us. Glad to hear it doesn't disappoint. I would have been upset if this had been a dud.
@@inttruders It was EXCELLENT. It's going to be one that I want to get to the table repeatedly and for a good, long while, I think. Dying to play a 4-person game, though 3 worked better than I expected. Lots and lots of fighting.
@@chrisarney8265 Nice, I am waiting impatiently for mine to show up. I like games that discourage turtling. If it plays well at 3 that is a good sign. Very few games in this genre work well at that number.
@@inttruders One thing that helps immensely is that, while there are 4 starting regions, the outermost territory of each is considered adjacent to every other one, as well the center region. In other words, no player is considered to be physically closer than another to the unoccupied areas. It would be hard to win Ruination while turtling, as the only way to consistently bring in lots of VP is to fight and win.
I had a similar thing with my punchboard where it was bending a bit to fit in the box, and had some tokens that popped out in transit. Thankfully nothing was really damaged. Looking forward to getting this one to the table.

I like this way of explaining the game. This gives us clear overview of how the game (turns) feels, please keep doing this format. As for the game itself, I feel like this would be better as digital game (consider Root digital edition or Armello) rather than board game since there are too many things (at least for me) to keep track. Ex: dice, unit effects, permanent upgrades etc. I like how the game works but keeping track of everything might take away some of the fun. I wish they are automated. Gorgeous artwork though.
Great review but what I have got to know is where did you guys get that mimic chest on top of the books?! I know Tom probably got it somewhere but I’d like to think Zee did since he was singing One-Winged Angel (Sephoroth song) a few weeks ago on Crowdsurfing.

Less than 800 backers on Kickstarter for this, but already over 5,000 views for this game's review. I will be playing this at the table soon and looking forward to the experience, but not sure why this didn't get as much love on KS as it should have. Perhaps this could be a new boardgame content segment - discuss games that had less than 1500 backers on initial KS but game is really good (8.5 rating or higher).
It launched March 13, the day after Covid restrictions hit in US and other countries. And at the time Kolossal had some customer issues they were improving. Bad timing for sure. Hoping we can find the audience now.
So I have not played this game or the proceeding, but I did just get Titans and man do they seem similar in rules (I've read Titans). The cards selection for actions, special power cards for combat, roll dice hitting and activations. I am probably wrong. I think if that comes to the Dice Tower you should play it Zee it looks big but the rules seem about the same level. Also the board for this game seems really small, like just enough for starting area seems weird.

I think Forbidden Stars has one of the best combat systems I've played in board games and have no problem with the time it takes to resolve. It allows players to engage in a mind game coupled with using card effects to improve dice results rather than just roll to resolve. When it comes to this game, resolving battle seems faster as there's no simultaneous card play to trap players in potential AP. The only things I'm hesitant with this are the theme and static shaped map. But even without an IP, this one looks neat. It could be a strong contender for shelf space.
Zee- it would be nice to see your hot/favorite game at the moment put on one of the shelves behind you. Kind of an Easter Egg for viewers who watch the content frequently. As long as it is not always 51st State. Can't wait to get Ruination on the table! My copy also had problems with the tokens being punched out already.
Really like the new study with the lighting and the minimalistic background.

Sometimes a wider recognition comes later. Ruination is really good - an alternative for Kemet!

I am colorblind and the palette they use in this game is a pain for my eyes.
I feel like the new camera/setup makes it a lot harder to see the game and understand the game overview

The fighting mechanics seem to be very involved, more so than Forbidden Stars, which slows the game to a crawl at time.
It’s all very fast back and forth. No cards to play. Everything is open info. You roll. There are two result types. You can use them on four abilities on your board. Fights usually are five mins at most. Hope that helps
