    Love how in depth your reviews go. I have been debating on either these or the h6pro. I would love to see a deep dive video on these and epos h6pro. And what is better overall. Unfortunately, I haven't seen anybody do a comparison of these two headsets alone. They're always paired in with other headsets as well. Really just want to know what's the best between these.

    Great review! You're one of the few UA-camrs I fully trust when it comes to audio as our taste in mix seems to align..I LOVE bass in my headphones, and most come out weak or just a flat EQ on that front.
    One question, how was the volume on PS5 for you? I find it can be a mixed bag depending on the headset..some are decently loud, some aren't. Currently using Penrose and Turtle Beach 700 Gen 2 Max and they're both good but TBs don't get as loud as I'd like at times, while Penrose are loud but can get very harsh like you were saying...Anyways, thanks in advance!

    • @GadgetryTech
      @GadgetryTech  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks so much Asa! The headset is amazing on PS5. The controller has some decent juice to it, so it will definitely get loud. Louder than the 700 G2. It may not seem as "loud" as the Penrose, but that's because some of the overly bright harshness is no longer there. The overall dB is still up there though. If you ever need more, just add the HEL2 and you'll be blown away.

    Awesome review as always, Joe. This headset looks so nice and premium. I love the style and no needless RGB. As you've probably seen me mention a million times in the comments, I currently use the PC38X, but I'm always curious what else is out there. Like, what is the next step up. When you mentioned Warzone my ears perked up because that is the game I play most online. Plus its great that they're so good for movie watching. I think I need to get a pair just to try them out for myself.

      I meant to add to this, but I've been super busy lately. The PC38X is an open back and really shines on games like Warzone. The Model One sound is very different and will take some getting used to. If you get the Model One, play a few nights straight with it, without switching models. Then form some conclusions from there. I found once I adjusted for they way they deliver sound, the Model One is very natural sounding and feels like a special headset.

      @@GadgetryTech Thanks. I haven't pulled the trigger on it yet but probably will soon. I think in your review you said the audio mix in Warzone wasn't the greatest. That being said, I love my H6pro’s (closed), would the Model 1’s be a step up? I play mostly Fortnite (lmao) and COD. My biggest reservation to pulling the trigger is wondering if these are 2x as good as the H6pros since they’re 2.5x the price 😅

    I just got these yesterday, having found artificial positional audio not translating well to my ears. Put these bad boys on... DAMN. The positional awareness is ridiculously pin-point levels of accurate. They also feel lighter than they are. As the earpads "burn-in" and adapt to your surrounding ear area, the fit gets even better. Absolute blast listening to high fidelity music and going back into RP and FPS games to pull out the difference in detail and immersion.

  • @stelonous

    Good review. To me, the corsairs blow this mic away. This one has too much of that higher pitch hollowness that so many headset brands have. The funny thing is that the mic in the cord is so much better than the included headset mic. It's too bad that the headset went massively just for sound and put the mic as maybe B grade. Why we can't get a superb sound with superb headset is beyond me.

    • @GadgetryTech
      @GadgetryTech  2 роки тому +1

      In case it helps, they have since upgraded the mic and even the cable to better handle impedance matching of the new mic setup. You have to remember this is their first production product and it’s called the model one. Slow evolution but it’s already at a great starting point. Corsair mics are top notch!

    I’ve recently found your channel and have listened to several reviews now. You’re definitely the most thoughtful of the reviewers I’ve watched. Maybe you can help me out with headset decisions for PS5. I’ve been using the Penrose headset for a while and while I like the sound quality it disconnects often, has buggy sounds and is super tight and uncomfortable. I’ve had several other expensive headsets I’ve liked but I don’t want to go back on the sound quality. I’m looking for the best sounding full wireless option I can find primarily for PS5. I love when sounds stay super crisp and detailed even at high volumes and love wide and open spatial/directional sound stages specifically for gaming. I’ve got plenty of quality options for music/movies already so not concerned about that. Maybe the MG20s? What do you think? And thanks ahead for your time.

      I also have the Audeze Penrose and faced the very same issues you mentioned. Regarding the comfort (or lack of), I’ve replaced the cushions by the Wicked Cushions, the difference is insane. On the connection, I’ve plugged a USB extension on the PS5, and I always try to disconnect other Bluetooth devices, as silly as it sounds, it worked. Steelseries just released a new “steelseries arctis nova pro wireless”, I’m curious about how good this headset is, watching videos and reading reviews :) Stay safe.

  • @TheCloudCreation

    I know this is an older review, but hopefully someone comes in here and replies to me.
    I'm looking for a new pair of headphones. Primarily for gaming, but I'm also a programmer by day and listen to music on my computer while coding, so I'd like to have as good of a music experience as possible. I'm heavily considering getting this headset, because it's so good for gaming, but I'm also heavily considering the DT 700 Pro X, however there is almost ZERO information on the DT 700 for gaming and absolutely no information comapring the two headphone/headset. Based on the analitical charts from RTINGS on the DT 700, they have an okay soundstage, but fantastic imaging that rivals the PC38x, and from everything I hear the VZR is about the same as the PC38x if not better in both those categories, so that would tell me the DT700 would rival the VZR in imaging but slightly lack in soundstage for gaming. But the DT700 has better highs and mid accuracy, as I've heard that one of the downsides to the VZR.
    Has anyone used both these headphones, or can point me towards someone who has?
    Note: I need a closed back as my wife works and games in the same room, don't want to spend more than $350 and don't need a mic as I have a studio mic for my work that I use.

      Buy them both and send the ones you don’t want back. I just got the VZR and Incan say that they are the best I’ve heard. The build quality is also incredible. Thank you for your review, I got the penrose and before I bought it , I have watched many of the viewers on UA-cam , you are the one who commented with truth and tell the fact . Most of them just say very good, nice , ba ba ba and they don’t mention the disconnection problem, I admit that penrose offer clear and excellent sound , I played pubg a lot, penrose give me clear directional foot steps , that is nice . However , don’t you think that it is fatal for a headset which disconnect very often if you play competitive online games? If you are gamer , you know what I am talking about . Turtle beach 700 gen 2 also got the same problem , wireless may not be the right direction. So I am searching for the wired one. I got Xbox series x, I realised that the mic of M1 works not good on Xbox? But what I most concern is the sound quality and no latency. May I ask when you are wearing m1, can you hear the environmental sound . Eg. A baby crying in the room next to you , thank you very much

    • @GadgetryTech
      @GadgetryTech  2 роки тому +1

      The M1 blocks off more noise around you than any passive headset/headphone I've ever tried. The passive noise isolation is insanely good. If you DO want to hear background/environment noise, I strongly recommend the EPOS H6PRO Open Acoustic, or the Drop PC38X. Both are great gaming headphones for the money as well.

    I bought these but just wish I could get a little bit louder volume at times. I love them with music (vocals are a bit low) but love how it really brings out all the other instruments.
    On Xbox, the issue is definitely with the mic, nobody can ever hear me. I'm on the fence with returning them because I play mostly FPS's on Xbox and the mic not working well is a major bummer. Wish there was a way to get a better mic or raise the mic chat volume.

    • @GadgetryTech
      @GadgetryTech  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah the challenge is definitely the mic sensitivity on Xbox right now. If you play on Warzone you can boost your mic volume in game which helps a lot. Set it to 300-400 and it helps to address that issue.
      I can look into other games when I can too but that was my workaround for now. I still need to test other DACs more to see if the Mixamp Pro or Arctis DAC boosts the mic enough as well

      Hi Jason. That's quite an awesome collection there! The Model One is a very different listening experience. You will need to play a few hours straight on it before jumping to any conclusions. With that being said, these are not nearly as forward sounding as the Penrose. They will immediately sound more laid back, but with more bass. With Penrose, the details are sharp and a bit bright in some audio mixes. In many cases I found I had to turn the volume down on the Penrose to help cope with ear fatigue. That's not the case with the Model One. On the M1, you can have a higher volume threshold, allowing everything to sound "full" and "rich", without hurting positional accuracy. On that note - the imaging of these is about as good as any closed back can get, even as you approach $1000 headphone pairs. It's just a different level. Plus, the comfort of these is a night and day improvement over the Penrose. I like the Penrose in certain applications don't get me wrong, I'd just rather play on the M1 all day. Hope that helps!

    If you had to choose between the Arctis Nova Pro Wirless or this headset which would you choose?

    • @GadgetryTech
      @GadgetryTech  2 роки тому +12

      Hard part is they couldn't be more different aside from having two speakers and a mic! With the Nova Pro, the sound is brighter and more focused on treble detail. On the Model One, a lot of focus was placed on properly emphasizing bass response to help with immersion. The Nova Pro is loaded with features, possibly more than any wireless gaming headset ever made. Part of what you're paying for is going towards that. The Model One is pure analog. All the money you spend is going into the build quality, comfort (long term comfort is amazing), imaging, and sound stage. They will seem a lot more laid back sounding when you do an A/B test. If you use the Model One for a week+ without switching, you will get used to the sound and benefit from pin point accuracy when gaming. If you are gaming on PS5 with a controller, or on PC and have a decent enough headphone amp with mic support (the Schiit Hel 2 for example), the Model One is top notch.
      It really matters what's most important to you and if the draw backs of either model sway you towards one or the other. The Nova has been great and I really do enjoy them. I find sound tuning to be easier to deal with for long long sessions on the Model One (movies are unworldly good!), and I know it will last for years and years.

      If you are talking about passive noise isolation from the room noise via the ear cups themselves, it's honestly shocking how quiet these ear cups/pads are. This is the first headset where I need to take the headset off sometimes to hear what people are saying in the house even if I have nothing playing. Considering the H6PRO closed back uses a hybrid pad, the noise isolation is still excellent. Honestly for under $200 they are top notch. The open back variant doesn't really block anything out of course, by nature of design. The VZR Model One is just a bit beyond what essentially every gaming headset I've heard does with terms of noise isolation. It was the first thing I noticed when I put them on, and it was shocking.

      @BigZylo Рік тому

      How you like your Maxwells? Tbh the VZR Model One was a disappointment to me. So many good reviews and I really tried to like this headset, but the bass overpowering, sounded muddy, and seemed to clutter up into the lows and mids. I love bass and it was one of the reasons i loved the Mobius so much, but these didn't have the clarity and punch I was looking for. It's a very rumbly and thundery bass rather than punchy, tight, clean, and clear. The wires also get coiled/tangled up really bad and the mic quality is very subpar for a 350$ headset. The Model One is very comfortable with great build quality and the positional audio is pretty good. When it comes to FPS these are really good at pinpointing footsteps, but for music listening and overall sound quality i was disappointed. I wish I would have tried them through a DAC and tried to EQ them better before I returned them as I feel it could've made all the difference. I want to try out the Maxwell as I previously had the Audeze Mobius and loved it. I've tried about 10 different headphones/gaming headsets and the mobius is the only one that has impressed me so far. The sound quality on the Mobius is truly incredible and I was hoping that the Model One or the Maxwell could live up to it. The virtuoso is also one of the headsets i tried. The features and mic quality are really nice, but it wasn't very comfortable and the sound quality was pretty mid for a 250$ headset. So all that said, I wish I would've gotten the Maxwell instead of these lol. How would you rate the Maxwell on sound quality, and compare them to other headsets you've tried?

    How is the volume with a PS5 controller? Do they get loud enough or do you have to crank the volume to max on ps5.

    I was looking at these for the ps5 in your opinion can the ps5 controller push a 32 ohms impedance well enough to get full use out of this headset??

    Quick question. Do you use Dolby atmos when playing video games or let the game provide the raw sound to your headphones for the the soundstage and imaging?

      I do still love using Atmos when I can! Especially if the game allows it

    I’m so torn between getting the AZR or DT700 Pro X. Currently in the market for a closed back audiophile headphones. The Hyper X Cloud 2 have been my daily drivers for years but I wanna try something new that’ll give me the same sound (or better) that the Cloud does for me.

      It’s well very rounded but tame compared to the vzr. So explosions aren’t as dynamic

    How does this compare to HiFiman Arya Stealths? I know you kept saying it won’t rival a $2000 headphone but what about something around $1000? I feel sometimes I can’t place this accurately with the Aryas. Thanks

    • @GadgetryTech
      @GadgetryTech  Рік тому +1

      They sound completely different from each other to be honest. Your ears can get used to either but it’s about as stark as it gets. Model One has a very strong bass response, lower mid range and a unique treble response. The Arya had nearly flat bass and mid range, with a dip at 1-2k then a lift at 3k before dropping back down a little. The planar open back Arya Stealth plays every micro detail and is pretty incredible for music.

    how was the headset when it came to apex? and what audio source did you plug it into out of curiosity?

    • @GadgetryTech
      @GadgetryTech  2 роки тому

      Hi Aggro! Apex's audio is "meh" at best, and not known for great footstep audio. With that being said, the Model One's frequency response is great for footstep audio, and has some emphasis in the 500hz range which is close to the frequency of Apex Legends footsteps. Hope that helps! I played with them plugged directly into my controllers (Xbox and PS5), into the Turtle Beach Ear Force audio controller on Xbox, the Astro Mixamp Pro, and my Schiit HEL2 on PC and PS5 (where it shined the most).

    • @eddieb3575
      @eddieb3575 Рік тому

      I have these headphones. I first used them on the ps5 and played mw2 with them. You don’t need to eq them at all, just plug and play. I set my in game audio mix to headphones bass boost and I was able to hear/ pin point enemy footsteps really well with these. Unlike my beyerdynamic dt990s which i have to hook up to a dac/amp and eq them.

      Hi, I have both and the penrose x too. These are enough better that the answer is the VZR model one. Just turn down the bass for footsteps within the xbox dolby atmos app under custom and turn on surround virtualizer.
