I agree, great content, great videos, huge fan, keep up the good work, used your videos to buy my new laptop, you should have 1 mil sub already, better then David 2d
@@jackred2362 I will probably wait till next year. I just purchased a prebuilt gaming desktop Corsair i7200 with i7 10700k + RTX3070. My original plan was to purchase the Legion 7 with 5800H + 3080 but due to availability I ended up purchasing the Corsair i7200 desktop for a great price. Should have enough saved for a 3080 spec by early next year :)
@@JepsonPA not without advanced optimus. As a creator who also likes to game, the QHD on the x15 satisfies both scenarios whereas choosing between the gaming focused FHD and the creator focused 4K on the X17 is frustrating as they both are compromised for the other purpose.
Only feedback is that you are an excellent reviewer, great channel, great information, professional and no BS. Thanks for making these videos. I hope your channel grows as it diserves to.
Great vid. I will always choose 17 inch over other screen sizes for gaming. Having said that, no QHD Advanced Optimus display for this price is a deal breaker. It's such a shame too because the design looks pretty good. That 4K UHD screen with 100% AdobeRGB, 500nit, and 4ms120Hz should've been QHD instead.
As a content creator and typist I am really so damn glad I finally found a very good laptop almost without compromises which features a high-res colour accurate 4K screen at a high refreshrate and even combines it with probably the best keyboard options out there, including the mechanical variant. I dreamed of that for years and now in 2023 it became affordable @refurbished. Just weight / size and 16:9 I am not so happy with and that the cpu (performance) is outdated at this point ^^ But for the price nowadays I can live with that + the kinda bad speakers and mediocre batterylife. Though wondering if it's possile to use a newer 330W GaN chareger on the RTX 3080 version.
I work on a ship and i rarely have internet connection. But when i do, i go directly to your video reviews. Your reviews are so professionally crafted. More power to you Mash IT
I’m really glad I got the X17 and feel vindicated on this. That being said, I kind of screwed myself and got the 16gb of trash can ram and I’m looking to drop in Crucial Ballistix. Hopefully the XMP profile selection is enabled in my bios.
becareful, I don't think ti will be so make sure you are able to return the ram if you can't those ballistix default to slow speed without XMP support :(
@@MashITTech yeah they will default to the jedec 3200mhz, but I’m concerned about the secondary timings. Can you tune the secondary timings in the bios on your 3070 X17?
@@justinTime077 Dell ended up pissing me off and in the month that I waited for my X17 to show up, I ordered a Legion 7i i7 11700h/3080 for the same price as that kneecapped 3070 Dell and it came almost immediately. Dell tried to give me $150 to keep it and I told them to stop insulting me and open an RMA. My legion came stock with 32gb of ram lol.
I would just go for the X17, both laptops are so thin and size-wise not too far apart (in my opinion). The X17 has upgradable ram (the X15 does not) and better port selection. Alienware really bungled up the X15 in its current iteration. If the X15 was a 13 inch then I can understand, but for a 15 inch I expected better.
I picked the x15 for an all rounder I can use for anything. I’d still take it over the g15 or blade as the build quality/support is better and it has a webcam. It is the priciest option though, so I recognize it’s not for everyone. For most gaming enthusiasts, I would agree the x17 would be the choice to make!
Hi Nick, thanks for your feedback. I love to hear what makes buyers choose a particular model as it helps me try and be more rounded. As unbiased as I try to be I do prefer a 17” for gaming laptops
@@MashITTech Totally understandable! I think the choice of buying laptops is a pretty personal one. There are laptops that have objectively better performance or even value but the ones people end up with is just their personal preference. I know my personal pick probably won’t be right for most people. The 17 inch screen is definitely nice to have though.
@Flash Vinnig I was juggling between the two however the r4 being a little bulkier, a bulkier power brick etc make it harder choice for on the go use for me personally. It’s cheaper snd more powerful though so you’re right it’s likely the better choice for most people :)
@Flash Vinnig I mean that’s true too. On this subject, I’d love to see a comparison of the r4 vs r5/r6 vs x15 models. If somebody had all of those laptops I think it’d be really interesting to view them side by side and see performance differences.
Thanks for the great info. I ordered the: 11980HK NVIDIA 3080 64GB DDR4 XMP 3466MHz 4TB (2x 2TB) RAID0 Using it for photo/video editing so first step will be to switch to Raid 1, once I get it. :)
Great points as usual. Thanks for all the straight forward reviews. I decided to go with the X15 for my laptop replacement. Only need to worry about do i need the 3070 or 3080. Based on wattage, 3080 wont have much gains percentage wise, but you get the killer rgb touchpad. :)
you deserve a lot more reach ! i really do enjoy your videos for thay are short and precise and to the point. keep it up, you'll eventually get there. PS : i have been subbed when you had 800 or so subs .cheers
You see the previous comments?? They all think your channel is Super Great, just as I told you. Your future is bright. Hope your out having some fun, I see life has returned to normal there in the UK👌🙏👍
Haha thanks mate, I do appreciate your support all these months! It keeps me motivated 😀 and yes, it’s freedom day today at last! It’s a bit up in the air still as shops aren’t really sure what’s going on yet but it’s so nice to start getting back to normal. Just praying this is the last lockdown….
Just the review I was waiting for. Excellent comparison points! Looking at the laptops side by side, it’s so obvious that Dell used same keyboard for both and it looks soooo out of place on the x17. Nevertheless, I think both are excellent machines and serve the purpose they were created for. Nicely done mate!
I'm buying either the x15 or the x17 today but I can't make up my mind. I've probably watched this video like 20 times over the past few days. Not sure if I want the more portable and sleeker x15 or the more powerful and more usable x17. Ughhhhhh Edit: I think I made up my mind. Going with the x17. The performance is just too good! Can't thank you enough for these videos. I was ultimately able to make my decision and am more confident in my purchase because of you!
hi there, thanks for the kind words. I think you made the right choice! You must REALLY need portability for all the trade offs the X15 makes. Having reviewed them both I ended up buying myself the X17 :)
@@user-mj6qr2ky9d I got the x17 & it’s amazing. No complaints at all besides the battery life. Runs everything at super high fps but runs cooler than almost any other laptop on the market. Build quality is excellent & everything down to the new smaller compact charger is great. I’ve had this thing for almost a month and I’m still in the honeymoon phase, lol. I would recommend for sure
Your review so helpful. So, Is X15 model with 32gb and 3070 card good enough for Video and photo editing and also programming and 3D graphics design, if I need to use it at least 5 years? Basically, I want to get X17 but I don’t think it’s suit me to carry around for 3kg without adapter. ToT
If you get the x15 for your use get the qhd screen, your eyes will thank you for it. Also good choice going with the 3070. I got the 3060 base model and regretted it as they deliberately gimped it at 90w and don’t use the element 31 thermal solution
@@MashITTech thank you. I will order it then haha. Just one more thing, Can we turned off the Alien light switch on logo 👽 when i gonna watch movie like with Netflix or UA-cam because some of gaming that my friend using cannot turn it off. 😌
Hey I'm going to be purchasing my first gaming laptop. Do you think a 3060 x17 is enough for most games? Also should I get the 16gb ram ? Thanks, I enjoy your videos
Now i have M15 R3 with 2070 super and I7 10875h it's great laptop, now i look for X15 with 3080 and i hope it will be great laptop like M15. What you think for that two laptops?
Hey mate, on 4:38 you put up a comparison benchmark of the CPU's. Whilst both being 11800H they receive similar single core scores whilst the X15 receives a much less Multi core score of 7949 in comparison to the X17 with a score of 9244. Why do you think this is when they are both identical CPU's? Do you think the X15 has less of a power budget for the CPU comparatively to the X17?
Did you guys get the "US Version" keyboards? I just got my X17 and there are some secondary markings on the keyboard near the shift and enter area of the keyboard that seem to be either Spanish or something else. Thanks. I really enjoy your videos!
Hi, Thank you for your review. Have you tried Lenovo Legion Slim 7 AMD? I am thinking between X15 and Legion Slim 7 AMD. Do you think which one is better? Thank
Great videos. I need more internal storage than the 4tb raid will allow. Will slot #2 work reliably with a 4tb Sabrent gen3 nvme? Specs and a sales rep said the slots are limited to 2tb each on the x17.
Subscribed. You deserve minimum x100 subscribers and more. Verry professional content! Can you make the comparison video with competitors? MSI, ASUS... At least in the near future.
Hy is the resolution in uhd not better than qhd. Because i saw something else like 3600x2160.. and qhd was much more less.. wo where is the difference?? Thx for answering
Thank you for the helpful review! I do want to ask, I am planning on using lumion, CAD, rhino for architecture school, do you reckon the x15 with 3060 graphics card is enough?
no, this adapter was probably designed over 10 years ago and has a little green light on the block itself. Quite disappointing, I know it is only a little thing but why redesign the 240w yet leave the high end model hanging
I chose the X15 as portability was more important to me, though I think I would have went the other way if the 17" had the QHD display. 1080p on a 17" laptop just doesn't do it on the productivity side. Thanks for the solid comparison.
When are you gonna have the m15's back in? Hoping for a m15/x15 or at least overall m/x comparison video from you guys before making my decision since no one else covers Alienware laptops this extensively. You gonna review the new MSI Raiders as well?
Hi, I am working on a m17 vs x17 at the moment, that should help as you can take the info from this comparison and it will be similar to the 15" range. I won't be getting the raiders any time soon, the prices are crazy for them in the UK, sorry
Thank you for your awesome review. Just need to get some advice. First I need to buy XPS 15 for my work as an architect and need to do a 3D program sometime. However, my friend recommended that if I need to spend that money, I should put in a bit more and get Alienware x15. So, should I go with XPS 15, OLED, i9, RAM32, 3050Ti or Alienware x15 QHD, i7, RAM32, 3070 model? Do both models good for long-term use? or I should go with X17 instead but I about concern about the weight that is quite heavy. Thank you for your advice
For your use I would pick the x15 with 3070 and qhd screen! It has better port selection than xps, much much better performance and thermals and is still quite slim and light with a small psu. One thing to note is the ram is soldered on the x15 so make sure you buy it with what you need, I would recommend 32gb
MashIT personally for you, how much better do you think the x series is compared to the m15 r5 and what configuration do you think is best for 3d model rendering. And the wattage difference does that mean the 3060 in the x17 will do better than the 3070 in the x15 ?
No MUX or advanced optimus on x17 UHD? I'm assuming 4K and means dedicated GPU is used at all times and so IGP is not doable?? Anyway, it's disappointing that this info is so hard to find. Thanks for another amazing review!
It is very hard to find as dell makes this information impossible to obtain unless you get hold of one. Unfortunately we didn’t get a 4K but you are right, a couple of our viewers ordered the 4K and it was dedicated only 😢
Nice Video! You really nail your reviews. My dream config on the X17 would be: - i7 + 3070 or even 3080 - 16 gb RAM (since upgradable) - 4K panel (for the 3080) - MX Cherry keyboard Would you recon the i7/3070 Model could be powered by the smaller form factor power brick from the X15?
the i7 3070 comes with the small brick. Only the 3080 x17 comes with the large brick 👍 also I tested the x17 3080 with the 240w brick and apart from a warning that I wasn't using the correct adapter it worked flawlessly
@@roboticvenom1935 fair Point, I don’t see the Point of 4K on Laptops yet… also if you really need it can always buy a separate monitor for that. 1440p on the other hand is a nice compromise, especially for the 30 series graphics. Why Dell didn’t gave us this option on the X17 is beyond me… TBH I will skip this years revision. My M15 is still well enough equipped for 1080p gaming

Thanks for the kind words. We are just happy we have grown as well as we have considering we started less than a year ago. Though I feel like I still have so much to learn!
Nice video!! Does the x17 with the 165hz monitor has Mux switch? I heard about a BIOS update that allows us to switch from the BIOS. Thank you always for your uselfull reviews
@@MashITTech okay, thank you very much. Another question if you don't mind: Does you recommend the x17 base model (With the 3060, 165hz but with 32gigs of ram) or its better saving something and get the base model m15r5.?
The 3069 is still no slouch, and the 165hz is still a great option. I would still buy it over the m15r5 and be happy with the great temps and gaming it is capable of 👍
sorry for the slow reply. I am actually using a welkin slim backpack. It is a great backpack that is not too big, well padded and fits larger 17" laptops but sadly welkin have stopped selling it 😢 I have also used the Alienware vindicator v2 which also great but is a very large backpack
For me the missing numpad is actually a big plus. Personally I have no use of a numpad, and without it the trackpad are more close to the center and the whole keyboard are much more balanced when typing on it, make the experience much better. That is also the major reason I choose X17 over Legion 7.
Hey dude thanks for the video. I was checking around some review from dell x15 and K found the qhd display stunning. By the way at the end of the video you pointed out other thinner models from competition so now I have further doubts 😂 It could be interesting if could make a review from the new upcoming razor laptops and even a compararive review between this alien x15 and the new razer 15
I have the blade 14 arriving this week so will compare that. We haven’t got the 11th gen blade 15s out here yet but that could also be a good alternative
Thanks to ur videos i tweaked some things in my m15r4 and its the best laptop I have ever used. I was wondering if u have plans to do a comparison between the m15r4 or m17r4 against these new x-series, to see the difference in performance and temperatures.
I already got the X15 with the 3070 and qhd screen but interested to know your opinion. If performance wasn’t a priority would you still go for the X17?
For me, I still would but I don't care about the portability of the 15" (I always prefer a 17" laptop for gaming) the reasons being the better port selection and the ram slots. That being said you made a good choice with the QHD, its an amazing panel and I so wish the 17" had a QHD option
@@MashITTech Fair enough. I will just wallow in the despair of missing 30W on my 3070 and three extra ports while I cry into my QHD screen. Thanks for the comparison!
@@todoroki4418 Thanks for the tip but I’m don’t play a lot of heavy games so 110W is probably enough for me. I’m going to spend some time with my X15 and see if I want to return it for a X17.
@@Scanger001 Just remember the x17 has no mux so that's a 20% drop in performance in esports titles at 1080p unless you plug to an external monitor, and it also has no G-sync.
Thanks for the review. From your experience with the X17 thus far and given the hefty price tag on the highest configurations for the X17 and MSI GE76, which one would you recommend from a pure performance stand point? I noticed the new GE76 have similar specs to that of the X17. Would appreciate the input.
hi bro, please review Alienware m15 r6 3060 QHD (near 1700 dollars in us )edition and compare with it the base x17 model. I have a hard time deciding which laptop to buy
I have heard that m15 r6 thermal throttle so getting a cooling pad with m15 r6 will work or have to go for x17 base model, pls in review answer this question also
@@MashITTech thank you m8, I look forward to it, you make very detailed videos and I would love to see your perspective on this laptop before I buy it.
Hi David, great video as always! I’m looking to buy my first gaming laptop and have 2 questions. Does the X15 have the slow 16GB RAM like the X17? Is it worth upgrading? And also, any news on the R6? It seems like a great value but nobody is talking about it. I’m thinking it could end up being a disaster like the R5 since it’s the same chassis. Thanks!
Fortunately the ram is the low density so you can pick any config you prefer. I am going to order the m15r6 next but I am worried about temps on it after the r5. They have been very slow releasing it in the U.K. or I would have had one in already
Hey great video as always! I just bought the M15R5, because of presumed battery life and performance. Do you think I should cancel the order and rather opt for a x15? I need it for work, coding and Lab work (which needs at least 3070), 32gb Ram, qhd (just for me). I got this in the R5 for 2254€. Thank you for your time! I'd really appreciate your input!! I Only recently found your channel, but love the way you test and review the machines!
Thank you mate, glad you are enjoying the content. The battery life is much better on the r5, when I turned the qhd to 60hz and turned off lighting I got 10 hours of battery life. The ryzen is a great processor but it does run hot in this chassis. Performance and build quality will be better on the x15 but I find the port selection a bit lacking and I hate the soldered on ram which means you need to spend more with dell configuring it to 32gb. I guess at the end of the day you need to work out the price difference between them to see if you can justify it
@@MashITTech thank you so much for your quick and thorough reply!! It would be around 600€, which could be ok. In your experience, did the X15 have decent office battery life? Do you have any experience with the Razer 14?
I have the razer blade arriving next week so review and comparison will be soon. With regards to work battery life it totally depends on the load you plan on putting on it, if just office work you can easily get 7+ hours with a bit of tweaking. If you are doing anything that engages the gpu the battery life will drop like a stone
Thanks for the video! Been choosing: X15 3070, 2k, 240HZ screen, 16gb,512GB, 1899 USD include one-year premium support, and X17 3070, 1080P 165HZ screen, 16gb,512GB, 1999 USD, (no premium support included) on Cyber Monday deals. X15 is a better deal compared to the X17, I really like the 2k screen and the support service it includes. However, my purpose of purchasing this is just gaming since I already have a ROG Zephyrus 14 with 2060 Max-Q for daily use. So for that, I really like the X17 since it has better performance. Any suggestions? Thank you!
sorry for the delay, I missed your message! If you are just gaming on the laptop get the X17 as it is a much much better gaming experience, if you didn't have the g14 I would push you towards the x15 as it would be a better all rounder. The x17 has much better thermals, clock speeds and the 17" screen is much more comfortable to game on.
@@MashITTech thanks! I know deep down in my heart that x17 is more suitable for me, but the fact that x15 has a better discount really drives me crazy lol. By the way not sure if I can stand the 1080p screen anymore since my rog is 2k, Is there a big difference? Thank you again for the help!
If you feel daring, it may be possible to replace the 17" screen yourself. I don't know what the part number would be, or if you would need the 4K screen's cable, but things like this are sometimes surprisingly possible. Also FWIW note that 2K != 2560x1440. It's a marketing misnomer that's unfortunately common, but not accurate. 2560x1440 is more appropriately termed 2.5K or simply QHD.
Panel model number BOE NE173QHM is 17.3" 2560x1440 165Hz. It requires a 40pin connector, which the 165Hz 1080p screen *may* come with but it may not. A lot of 120Hz+ 1080p 17.3" screens do use 40pin connectors, so the chances are good, but if it's 30pin then you would need to get the part number for the 4K or 1080p 360Hz screen cable which would most certainly be 40pin. Also there are at least 4 variants of this panel (NY1 through NY4) so it could be worth using Panelook to look up the details of the specific model of whichever listing you're able to find for sale.
On my 4th AW laptop. Thinking back to 2008,ish thru 2020. So i have NP viewing the new X models (big picture ) as the best yet. That said, I am happy i got the 2020. I would not have bought the X17. Checks to many of the wrong boxes for me. Ports, all in the rear is a NO. Full side exhaust, if i can help it, iam out.. The only reason i buy 17inch laptops, is better viewing. More ports and full keyboard. Only thing that checked my wishlist is, black on white . Absolutely want it. For the price & features, theres not enough chilled Guinness in the world to make it a sound purchase. (For me). Thanks for the Great review work done on the X models. Watched them all, Twice . Once drunk, Once sober just to get both angles
Is the x15 base model okay to get? I know most people would rather get better specs but I’m trying to spend as little as possible If it’s not good, what specs do u recommend for the x15 if I wanna spend as little as possible?
I got the base spec and if you are happy with the shortcoming mentioned in my review then you will be happy with it. (Only 1 usb3.1, soldered ram and not the best speakers)
Thanks for the reviews. You said there are better laptops, could you recommend some? High end ones ideally that are comparable to these in terms of dimensions, GPU/CPU selection. Thanks🙏
What size laptop are you looking for? the new Razer Blade 14 is a good choice if you are after the most powerful compact laptop, and the G15 is also a great choice and a lot less than the X15
Both great performing laptops so I would pick based on which you prefer the look of and features. I personally would pick the alienware as I love the look and build quality
@@MashITTech I will be watching! Thank you! My wife purchased the m17 r4 last month and I'm thinking of getting one for myself, but I'm curious how the performance stacks up to the x17.
In all honesty I don’t think you can go wrong with either so choose the model with best price or looks. Alienware x17’s new cooling system means you can game without throttling at 165w tgp and msi always use a good cooling solution too 👍
@@MashITTech thank you sir. You mentioned in you x17 review that the i7 would be the way to go. Would you reccoment i9 for the msi. Again with my goal being increased fps at 1080p.
x15 all the way :) I love it's size, but I had to get the 32GB RAM QHD model so that set me back a bit :( This laptop better last me at least 3 years lol watching these videos help me cope with the fact that dell has a parts shortage right now, I believe my x15 order will get delayed.
The qhd is a joy to behold so you made the right choice! If I got the x15 I would get that panel for sure. I was lucky with my order times but I ordered on launch day I guess they are getting good sales on the new range and are struggling to keep up! Hope you get yours soon 👍
Hi @mashit is there a big difference between the RTX 3080 16 VGR vs rtx3080 8 VGR as you know Alineware using the 8 for 15 inch and 16 for 17 inch kindly help thank you mash it
there is a big difference between the X15 3080 and X17 3080 as the X15 only has a 110w TGP where as the X17 has a 165w TGP. Other than that the difference is just the amount of ram on board. Most people will be fine with 8gb but if you want to run 4k or ultra textures 16gb may be an advantage
I just wish this had option for customizable skins for the system it would be so cool not saying way out there skins but at least a different color option then what seems just white I bought the x17 but went over board max out speks I love it 64 ram 4tb hard drive 16gb graphic card life is smooth bank is empty
Hey MashIT! Amazing video as always! Can test long term the 240w small brick vs the big brick on the 3080 X17? Would like to know if paying for that is worth it/would cause no damage whatsoeve. Thanks for your time and information!
I am still testing that at the moment. from my initial testing I think the only downside is the battery takes a lot longer to charge when heavily using the laptop but that isn't an issue for me
@@MashITTech This is a good question. Are you able to fully use the 3080 X17 with just the 240W power brick? If that's the case then the solution would be to just buy a 240W power brick. Thanks.
I havent got the blade 14 in yet. Comparing it to the blade 15 advanced I like the keyboard feel a lot better and I much prefer the fan behaviour but the blade feels more compact and the 14" version is even smaller!!
Working on that video at the moment! Although we only have a 3070 m17r4 so comparing that with the 3070 X17. I am also working on a 3070 vs 3080 on the X17 so it will be easy to extrapolate the difference in performance 👍
Thanks for the comparison video! I’m stuck between the X15 and X17. I’m currently considering the X15 with RTX3080 and X17 with RTX3070 (other than the gpu, rest of the specs are same on both the machines). Both portability and performance are important to me. Because of the lower wattage on the X15 I’m opting for the RTX3080 with the hope to somewhat be on bar with the X17 with RTX3070. Would the X15 with RTX3080 be close to X17 with RTX3070?
Yes, looking at the tdp I would estimate them being very close as the 3070 gets 140w but less cuda cores and the 3080 only gets 110w but has the other specs on its side. If you want portability then I guess it’s a good compromise. But I wish they hadn’t cut so many ports out 😢
Go into command centre and go to the fx tab, select the tron ring and on the left side it gives you a range of effects, scroll down and you should see rainbow wave 👍
It is worth it but….battery life is terrible with that option and not all games will run well at 4K so you may need to drop settings or resolution to run at high fps
Hey mate would you be able to get info or maybe make a video on performance difference between 3070 on x15 and 17 and 3080 on x15 and x17? This wattage disparity might be misleading to a lot of the general public with how it affects performance.
It is something I would love to do but I just can’t afford to buy them all in 😢 sorry. As we get bigger and hopefully make more money we should be able to do this sort of video
Great video! Thanks a lot. It’s really helpful especially when I proceed my order on the final step😂 so I just canceled the order with X15 3080 (1000AUD higher price than 3070, but only110W not valued!) . X 17is good, but if choice 3080 better choice 4K , and it with 330W big brick. Guess it will over 4KG? A good Fitness artifact. X15 i7-11800 3070 with QHD current around 4016 AUD , looks best choice for me. Lighter and portability. Use Bluetooth mouse the USB port will free. So really appreciate your video. Cheers👍👍👍👍
So glad it helped! These are expensive machines and it is always difficult to make a decision as there is always trade offs to be made. The QHD screen is glorious though, that would also be my pick if I bought the X15 for me
@@MashITTech still not decided 😅 I agree with u, X17 get better visions. Just wondering if choice X17 with 3070, which screen option you recommended. Thank you very much

Best laptop reviewer on UA-cam! Thank you so much for all the info. Saving for the X17/3070/360HZ 1080P screen.
thank you mate, appreciate the support 👍 and yes, that is a beast of a combo. I have that screen on my area 51m r2 and I love it
@@jackred2362 I will probably wait till next year.
The legion are like gold dust at the moment, we have been told we won’t be getting more in the U.K. until December 😢
The lack of QHD on the X17 bums me out as every other box is ticked for me (well other than the missing number pad), now looking at the competitors…
I am not sure what dell is thinking! It’s like they don’t even look what their competitors are doing
@@MashITTech This is partially due the lack of 17inch QHD screen in China.
The 4k with 500 nits is better imo
@@JepsonPA not without advanced optimus. As a creator who also likes to game, the QHD on the x15 satisfies both scenarios whereas choosing between the gaming focused FHD and the creator focused 4K on the X17 is frustrating as they both are compromised for the other purpose.
They know that the 17 need qhd and ports on the side and the 15 needs more ports etc. and those will be the revisions.
I ordered the x15 with the i7, QHD and 32Gb. mainly the size and performance that made me choose this one. Eta Aug 5. BTW great review!
Glad you chose the qhd, that’s one hell of a screen! If I bought the x15 that’s the spec I would get. What gpu did you go for?
@@MashITTech the 3070. Can't wait to game with it.
Good choice! The 3070 is probably the best option at 110w and won’t be far off the x17, the 3080 is also 110w so a pointless upgrade
Only feedback is that you are an excellent reviewer, great channel, great information, professional and no BS. Thanks for making these videos. I hope your channel grows as it diserves to.
Thank you so much for the kind words, we appreciate your support 😀👍
I really have no idea what dell were thinking not to include the qhd especially as everyone else is using it!
More power to you Mash IT
Thanks so much Denzel, I really appreciate your support 👍
Bruh please, you can upgrade to 64gb of ram for the price of dell’s 32gb. Your trash can ram was a smart play.
Thanks so much for these!
I ordered the:
11980HK
NVIDIA 3080
64GB DDR4 XMP 3466MHz
4TB (2x 2TB) RAID0
Using it for photo/video editing so first step will be to switch to Raid 1, once I get it. :)
Great points as usual. Thanks for all the straight forward reviews. I decided to go with the X15 for my laptop replacement. Only need to worry about do i need the 3070 or 3080. Based on wattage, 3080 wont have much gains percentage wise, but you get the killer rgb touchpad. :)
Haha that rgb touchpad is nice this year! But the 110w is a real shame 😢

Thank you mate 😀👍
I'm buying either the x15 or the x17 today but I can't make up my mind. I've probably watched this video like 20 times over the past few days. Not sure if I want the more portable and sleeker x15 or the more powerful and more usable x17. Ughhhhhh
Edit: I think I made up my mind.
How is it???
@@user-mj6qr2ky9d I got the x17 & it’s amazing. No complaints at all besides the battery life. Runs everything at super high fps but runs cooler than almost any other laptop on the market. QHD and lack of secondary key lighting, im out. Would choose that 3070 due to that powerbrick

How did you get 5 hrs on the x17? I'm lucky to get 3 with power saver, dim, undervolting, no LED.
Did you guys get the "US Version" keyboards? I just got my X17 and there are some secondary markings on the keyboard near the shift and enter area of the keyboard that seem to be either Spanish or something else. Thanks. I really enjoy your videos!
No I bought the UK ISO version. what version did you order? you can add me on instagram and send me a photo if you want me to take a look?
@@MashITTech Oh awesome, I will message you on IG. Thanks a lot. I'm thinking I have possibly a US-International type of keyboard.

Hi, Thank you for your review. Have you tried Lenovo Legion Slim 7 AMD? I am thinking between X15 and Legion Slim 7 AMD. Do you think which one is better?
Thank
Sorry, the slim 7 isnt available in the UK yet so I have not been able to test it :(
Great videos. I need more internal storage than the 4tb raid will allow. Will slot #2 work reliably with a 4tb Sabrent gen3 nvme? Specs and a sales rep said the slots are limited to 2tb each on the x17.
I am pretty sure it will accept a 4tb drive but I haven’t tested it. The reps know nothing and the spec sheet is more about which parts are validated

Thx for answering
Thank you for the helpful review! I do want to ask, I am planning on using lumion, CAD, rhino for architecture school, do you reckon the x15 with 3060 graphics card is enough?
Totally, the 3060 is still a strong card and will be great for 3d based apps. I use blender and resolve and it really cuts through my workload
Will x 17 fit into that bag?
Nice video... just a silly question, does the 330w power adapter for the 3080 models have the blue illuminated ring on it when powered on ?
no, this adapter was probably designed over 10 years ago and has a little green light on the block itself.

@@MashITTech Yeah MSI has gotten really expensive recently. Keep up the good work!
How is the performance difference between i7 and i9 CPU, what would you recommend?
It do not think the performance increase is worth the cost
Kind of answered some of this question but I think the x series is a lot better than the m15r5 with regards to build quality and design.
@@MashITTech how about performance if both had the RTX 3070 with 16gb ram, ryzen 9 vs i7

My dream config on the X17 would be:
- i7 + 3070 or even 3080
- 16 gb RAM (since upgradable)
- 4K panel (for the 3080)
- MX Cherry keyboard
Would you recon the i7/3070 Model could be powered by the smaller form factor power brick from the X15?
the i7 3070 comes with the small brick. Only the 3080 x17 comes with the large brick 👍 also I tested the x17 3080 with the 240w brick and apart from a warning that I wasn't using the correct adapter it worked flawlessly
@@MashITTech but then are you going to pay extra for the 240w brick if you find it separately? and just bin the big brick?

@@roboticvenom1935 fair Point, I don’t see the Point of 4K on Laptops yet… also if you really need it can always buy a separate monitor for that.
1440p on the other hand is a nice compromise, especially for the 30 series graphics. Why Dell didn’t gave us this option on the X17 is beyond me…

Another question if you don't mind: Does you recommend the x17 base model (With the 3060, 165hz but with 32gigs of ram) or its better saving something and get the base model m15r5.?
Do*
The 3069 is still no slouch, and the 165hz is still a great option. I would still buy it over the m15r5 and be happy with the great temps and gaming it is capable of 👍
David what backpack are you storing this bad boy in? Is it padded?
sorry for the slow reply.
Ah that’s interesting. I prefer it on the x15 but for some reason I like a number pad on a 17”

For me, I still would but I don't care about the portability of the 15" (I always prefer a 17" laptop for gaming) the reasons being the better port selection and the ram slots. That being said you made a good choice with the QHD, its an amazing panel and I so wish the 17" had a QHD option

@@MashITTech thank you for taking the time to answer my questions!

Yes sure, the 51m r2 is my personal gaming laptop. Leave it with me
Thanks for the video! Been choosing:
X15 3070, 2k, 240HZ screen, 16gb,512GB, 1899 USD include one-year premium support, and
X17 3070, 1080P 165HZ screen, 16gb,512GB, 1999 USD, (no premium support included)
on Cyber Monday deals.
Also pin pitch is a concern. Some connectors have 0.5mm and some 0.4mm. I don't know what these ones would have.
Haha love the comment once drunk! That sounds like a good idea
Is the x15 base model okay to get? I know most people would rather get better specs but I’m trying to spend as little as possible
If it’s not good, what specs do u recommend for the x15 if I wanna spend as little as possible?
I got the base spec and if you are happy with the shortcoming mentioned in my review then you will be happy with it. (Only 1 usb3.1, soldered ram and not the best speakers)
@@MashITTech thank you!!
@@MashITTech would you prefer the x17 vs the asus strix g17? Given same gpu
Both great performing laptops so I would pick based on which you prefer the look of and features. I personally would pick the alienware as I love the look and build quality
A appreciate build quality, look as well as performance. That command centre really does need upgrading. Thanks for the replies
Hey Mash It will you make a video for the Alienware x17 with overclocking and undervolting with Msi afterburner
Sure 👍
Are you doing a review on Alienware m15 r6 intel variant. 🙏🙏🙏
Soon. they only just released it in the UK otherwise we would have ordered that at the same time as the X series
Can we get a comparison video of the x17 versus the M17 R4?
We are actually nearing the end of editing this very video. Hoping to get it up tonight
@@MashITTech I will be watching! Thank you! My wife purchased the m17 r4 last month and I'm thinking of getting one for myself, but I'm curious how the performance stacks up to the x17.
X17 vs Msi raider 11th Gen? My only goal is performance for warzone. 3080 in both with the 300 hrz screen is what I'm considering.
Again with my goal being increased fps at 1080p.
i would really appreciate if you could let me know if i should go for i9 360hz x17 or wait for x17 r2
Well the x17 is great so I would get one now but get the i7 not the i9, the i7 is unlocked anyway 👍
whats the price?
Great comparison! Any plans to compare the X15 with the M15 R5? Thanks for all the timely Alienware videos!
thank you. Unfortunately I dont have a m15r5 here at the moment or I would
Please could you do a video to compare the Alienware x17 and the MSI GE76 Raider
Let me take a look at the GE76, if Ic an get one in the UK for a sensible price I will order one
x15 all the way :) I love it's size, but I had to get the 32GB RAM QHD model so that set me back a bit :( This laptop better last me at least 3 years
lol watching these videos help me cope with the fact that dell has a parts shortage right now, I believe my x15 order will get delayed.
The qhd is a joy to behold so you made the right choice! If I got the x15 I would get that panel for sure. I was lucky with my order times but I ordered on launch day I guess they are getting good sales on the new range and are struggling to keep up! Hope you get yours soon 👍
I did the same this when I ordered mine! 32GB RAM QHD x15. Love love love it. Portability is important for me too.
Excellent comparison 👍
Thanks mate 😀👍
I am still testing that at the moment. from my initial testing I think the only downside is the battery takes a lot longer to charge when heavily using the laptop but that isn't an issue for me
@@MashITTech That's amazing to hear! And yeah that isn't an issue whatsoever!
@@MashITTech one more question mash!
Do you know of the 2TN NVME SSD is a Samsung 980 Pro? Read rumors but no confirmation yet.
@@MashITTech This is a good question. Are you able to fully use the 3080 X17 with just the 240W power brick? If that's the case then the solution would be to just buy a 240W power brick. Thanks.
Where the heck is the numeric pad in the x17? I hate that it was removed.
Yep, me too 😢
I'm looking to buy this laptop. can you please confirm one thing .can I use g sync on an external monitor with Alienware x15 and x17?
You can. I answered you in more detail on the other post
I'd prefer the x15 for portability and better screen, but how do you like it compared to the new Razer 14inch?
I havent got the blade 14 in yet. Comparing it to the blade 15 advanced I like the keyboard feel a lot better and I much prefer the fan behaviour but the blade feels more compact and the 14" version is even smaller!!
Hey Mash, will you do a comparison vs the M15 series?
I typically haven’t got the m15 in the office at the moment. I am going to do the x17 vs the m17r4 next as we have that here
Hows the battery life on the X17 if you turn it down to 60hz when unplugged?
I’ve a 51m r1 and in the absence of r3 from dell I’m thinking of m17 r4 or x17 both with rtx3080. Any chance of a comparison ?
Working on that video at the moment! Although we only have a 3070 m17r4 so comparing that with the 3070 X17. I am also working on a 3070 vs 3080 on the X17 so it will be easy to extrapolate the difference in performance 👍
Is the x17 model you have in this video 4k or 1080p?
I got the 1080p
Can you also do the new G15?
The dell g15 (already reviewed) or the asus g15?
But I wish they hadn’t cut so many ports out 😢
@@MashITTech oh, I see. Thank you so much for the reply, means a lot🙏🏽 Yes! True! It sucks they cut down a lot of ports 😭
Always happy to help 😃👍
Hey David. How do you get that rainbow effect on the tron light?Just got my x17 and I’m new to Alienware. Thanks!
Go into command centre and go to the fx tab, select the tron ring and on the left side it gives you a range of effects, scroll down and you should see rainbow wave 👍
Awesome. Thank you for taking the time to reply!
Is the 4k panel on the x17 worth it ?
I really don't want a 1080p on a 17 inch laptop.
I'm happy as the 4k panel has a 120hz screen.
It is worth it but….battery life is terrible with that option and not all games will run well at 4K so you may need to drop settings or resolution to run at high fps
@@MashITTech the 5 hour battery life for x17 is apply to 4K screen option as well?
Hey mate would you be able to get info or maybe make a video on performance difference between 3070 on x15 and 17 and 3080 on x15 and x17? This wattage disparity might be misleading to a lot of the general public with how it affects performance.
It is something I would love to do but I just can’t afford to buy them all in 😢 sorry. As we get bigger and hopefully make more money we should be able to do this sort of video
@@MashITTech understood mate you're doing great work as is, keep it up!
Can you do a difference between the 1080p 360hz option and the Qhd 240hz option between X17 and X15
I haven’t got a qhd at the moment, they are on a 2 month back log in the U.K. 😢
What would you recommend on using i7 11800H vs i9 11900H on X15?
Save your money and get the 11800h, the 11900 isn’t much faster and even the 11800 throttled in extended use
Does the x17 support two external monitors at 4K?
yes it does
Great video!
Thank you very much
Excellent video, as always! : )
Thank you :)
Hey MashIT! I have a question regarding the 2TB NVME SSD. Is it a Samsung 980 pro? Heard rumors that it is but no confirmation. Do you have insight on this?
Dell have said this is the case but I don’t believe it unless I actually see it as dell do spout rubbish. Unfortunately we haven’t seen the 2tb yet! If I get confirmation I will let you know
when will you be reviewing a m15r6?
They are on a stupidly long lead time with Dell at the moment (2+ months) so no idea when it will ever get here
What do you guys think about Alienware post about a new member to the X family? Probably an X13
