One thing that struck me about the end of ENDGAME that made me emotional was that MCU fans shared in a collective experience for 10 years and it culminated in us all being together for that cultural moment. It was honestly amazing.

Saw Endgame twice in theaters, maybe three times, can't recall. One of my all-time favorite movies. Still amazes me how much more emotional that opening scene was, watching it at home for the first time, with Tony recording the message to Pepper. RDJ was in his bag in that movie. Especially the "I needed you, past tense" scene with Cap.

To me seeing Hawkeye in that cold opening set the tone for what kind of movie we were about to watch. It humanized Clint even more than the barn scene in Ultron.

It really is amazing that most fans were mostly happy with the MCU as a whole leading up to Endgame even if there were some stinkers mixed in (Thor 2, for example). Then it all fell apart and everything that came after (except for the Spidey movies) became increasingly divisive.

Without question, Endgame was the best movie-going experience I've ever had. It felt like Game 7 of the NBA Finals, a back and forth game, plenty of injuries, and yet the home team scores a game-winner in OT on a buzzer beater. Not sure if it's my favorite movie ever, but man to be in a packed movie theatre with that vibe, watching these comic-book characters brought to life in such a beautiful way is an experience I'll never forget. It was only the second movie that my then-girlfriend/now-wife had seen with me, and she was just astounded at how emotional I was lol.

Endgame was the biggest movie event in my 35 years and i adore it so much, endgame also has directly lead to the downturn of marvel. They were at such a high HIGH, you can only go down. And apparently the vast majority of people didnt understand that. That cap with mjolnir scene gets me emotional every damn time.

  • @LenGott8345

I don't think it really hit me how engaged I was in the MCU until I watched Endgame and I legit cried at set points. It didn't really sink in with me how into each individual's journey I got with each passing movie and the ending in particular...damn that got me. Tony finally got to fight alongside Pepper (she finally wore something he got her) and her last words to him just..DAMN.
To say the MCU has struggled since then is probably an understatement. I don't think they've really stopped to truly plot out what 'next' looks like. I don't think we've had the same approach that we had during The Infinity Saga and even before we get to 'main villain loses his shit and Disney has to fire him', we've had movies but nothing that really got us into the characters like we had the first go round. I think Sam is going to do well as the new Cap, but filling out the rest as we push toward an uncertain Avengers movie is gonna be difficult.
I still to this day believes the last full hour of Endgame is the best I've seen. EVER. Nothing tops it and I'm not sure anything ever will. Including anything the MCU does moving forward.

Mallory explaining how Iron Man came at a transition point in her life kinda hit home to me since I was just getting out of high school and learning my path. It feels timely that that saga ended when I'm now fully transitioned into adulthood.

  • @andreantunes8615
    @andreantunes8615 5 місяців тому

I remember leaving the theatre after my first viewing with this strange sense of... closure, I guess. Even then, in the immediate aftermath of seeing it, I sort of knew that was it. I'd obviously still return for my favorite heroes (Spider-Man, the Guardians, now Deadpool, etc.), but a part of me recognized that it would be impossible for Marvel to reach those heights again. And that was fine. "Part of the journey is the end" and the MCU had gotten to it's logical conclusion. So, as a fan of it, it was almost natural for me to close the book on Marvel, cherish the movies we had gotten and not really keep up with the stroy from there on out.
I guess, much like Mallory talks in the video about associating the MCU with the start and progression of her adult life, so do I look at these movies as a formative part of my teenage years and my development as a cinephile and as a young adult in general. And with that, comes the inevitability of letting go. But with Endgame, I've never been sad about it, on the contrary. As a film it is definitely flawed, emotionally manipulative and probably "not cinema" by the Scorsese definition of the term. But it's also one of the most unforgettable communal theatre experiences of my life, and something I'll cherish for as long as I live.

Endgame was released in theaters in April 26, 2019.

The irony is that game of thrones and marvel are completely “attached” (let’s say. )The writer of the books. R R Martian said watch game of thrones then read the Stan Lee Kirby and Ditkos era of marvel. It’s almost the same. He said the only difference is that in book’s characters die forever in comics they die until they need them to come back again.

We mostly all had those same emotional moments in the theater. But intellectually and plot wise, this movie was a mess.
To start with, if Captain Marvel just flew into low orbit with the stones at the end, what could Thanos and his crew do about it? She had already blown up their spaceship. Also, what was the point of the Winter Soldier arc? In the final 2 movies, all he does is shoot a machine gun at the bad guys. How did the bad guys get into Wakanda HQ to attack Vision--the dome was only partial? Captain Marvel is about to enter the time machine van, roughly 15 feet away and Thanos throws his shield/sword from 100 feet and it beats her to the van to destroy it.
I also think the Russo's suck for sidelining the traditional Hulk for smart Hulk, likely because they didn't know how to write for the rampaging version. Black Panther was also fairly a non-factor in the big battle. This movie needed a comic book writer like Whedon, not the Russos.
Thanos should never have been so all powerful. Being able to sustain and fend off an attack from Cap, Thor and Tony at the same time was silly. It basically puts Thanos on the Superman level of strength. And if that's true, why did he need to send the Chitauri in the first Avengers movie after them?
As time as gone on and I have seen the fleshed out version of Ultron on cable, it has grown as a comic book movie as Endgame has shrunk.
Oh and I love how after everyone came back, the first priority was, "Get those damn kids back in school" even before Tony's funeral service.

  • @ShooterSanoff

Infinity War is by far the better movie.. all Endgame is just fan service, showing you old movie scenes that we all like to fill time in the movie.
