    Welcome to TomFM! In today's Football Manager 2021 video FM21 Experiment, where I'm giving the Welsh Premier League a £1.2bn TV Deal. We're giving each of the 12 teams in the JD Cymru Premier £100,000,000 in the form of a TV deal each season to see if they can become the number 1 league in Europe. The Welsh Professional Leagues need returning to glory and could this be the way to do it? The Cymru Premier has some great teams such as TNS (The New Saints, Bala, Cardiff Met Uni and Cefn Druids, so surely one of the Welsh Premier League sides can reach glory in this Football Manager 2021 Experiment?

    The domestic league struggles in Wales because we're without five of our biggest clubs. Find me another country that has to deal with that. Only the Canadian League really and that is in its infancy. See no problem with a Uni team being competitive in there.

    The Cymru Premier is only around 30 years old as an entity and only in the last 5 years have the FAW started developing it and actually noticing it exists. The one good thing about it is that the Welsh clubs playing in the English leagues like to send their youngsters to get senior football in the Welsh leagues these days and a few of our lads in our Euros squad went this route. While they are getting everything done for them at their parent club, they get a massive eye opener when they aren't getting their arses kissed by the Welsh clubs and have to organise their own stuff. They grow up and come back ready to be professionals and not being mollycoddled into having everything on a platter. We need more clubs to turn professional though, it would just benefit our footballers massively and clubs like Cardiff, Swansea, Newport and Wrexham would be more willing to send their youngsters here.

    Great video! Couple of things I wanted to address though...
    1) Rugby being seen as the most popular sport in Wales. More people play football than rugby, and a lot more people attend club football matches on a weekly basis
    2) The disparity between our national side success and the weakness of our league. We have a strange historical/political context for the national team and league. We're the 3rd oldest national association in the world, despite not really being granted recognition as a country when we founded our national team. All our best clubs have played in the English leagues since they were formed. In the 1990s we were under pressure to lose our place as a FIFA member because we did not have a national league, so we formed one and all the big clubs rejected the opportunity to join for commercial reasons. So since then, we've basically been trying to improve the league without our 5 biggest and best supported clubs (a mammoth task). Imagine the Croatian league without Dinamo Zagreb, Osijek, Hajduk, Rijeka & Gorica. Imagine the Scottish league without Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen, Hibernian & St Johnstone
    3) So despite this we still produce good players through the English pyramid, and the best players in our country tend to play for these clubs. The academies of Welsh clubs playing in Wales produce a lot for the national team. So even though they are not part of the Welsh pyramid, they contribute to the performance of the national team

      Would of been interesting to see this exactt of experiment with swans, Cardiff, Newport, Wrexham and merthyr in the league but with the money. Spot on with what you said tho, we've got a national league roughly on par with Gibraltar but we've made it to a semi final of a European championship. Even with the standard of the Welsh league slowly improving we have a long way to go as a footballing nation but what a journey that will be

    • @CaelanDafydd
      @CaelanDafydd 3 роки тому

      @@markfirebreakdrakefordylla9386 Yes I agree, although such is the nature of the systems we take part in, I wonder whether Cardiff/Swansea/Newport/Wrecsam/Merthyr taking part in the Cymru Premier would make that much difference? I feel like slowly those teams would end up making up a high-to-average being top teams in those leagues. This would definitely help the Cymru Pren long term, as like Croatia, we would churn out international class players. I'm just not sure it would be sustainable

    • @markfirebreakdrakefordylla9386
      @markfirebreakdrakefordylla9386 3 роки тому

      @@CaelanDafydd If they could keep hold of their players I'd think it would be a difference, swans and Cardiff have teams capable of going into the latter stages of qualifying in Europe and possibly qualifying. While Newport for the last few years have made a reputation for knocking out much bigger sides in Cup competitions, so in theory they should be capable of doing well in Europe for a Welsh team. Wrexham would probably be a round 1 or 2 team atm but with the money and sponsorships they now have I'd expect to be at swans and Cardiffs level soon. And as for merthyr they'd probably be a bottom half team in the Welsh prem or even a cymru South team. As for stability there would be no way for swans and Cardiff to generate the money needed to keep hold of their players unless they get into Europe proper on a consistent basis, aswell as that their academies would also suffer and would need to cut back sending massively (this would be tragic for the Welsh national team as well). As for Newport and Wrexham I think they would struggle to keep hold of their players aswell. For me Merthyr is a interesting one seeing as they nearly went bust (again) this season, I think it would make sense for them to join the Welsh league system if they continue to have financial troubles, seeing as they had to pull out of all competitions this season due to it. But if the level of finance and the support was in place for this to happen I think the Welsh league could be something similar to the Scottish league, with Swansea and Cardiff being our version of Celtic and Rangers, with Wrexham and Newport and maybe tns or Connahs quay being the chasing pack.

    Last time I play FM managing Colwyn Bay FC (Wales) which is still on English football and this is one of the hardest time I play. I need about 23 seasons to get on the Premier League. After 45 seasons has passed, my dream is to make Welsh national football team get into at least top 20 nations rank, it's seem impossible since youth recruitments never get some good Wales regen.

    Honestly no criticism at all, you show welsh and wales respect which is rare on here but if you see a work starting with 'C' it's most likely a 'K' sound so for example, kai and Cai are said the exact same. Keep up the great work💪!

    Just to let everyone know. Football is Wales' national sport. Our goverment did a study a few years ago on sports in Wales and found that there are 3 registered footballers to every one registered rugby player. Even our media have stopped peddling that myth these days and they were proper anti football.

    Well, Connah's Quay nickname is the Nomads, so having more "Nomads" as their top players seems on brand.
