Guys, chill. Yes, Elphaba’s voice was struggling. It happens to everybody. This moment unfortunately just happened to get posted on the internet. Moments like that can happen to everybody. Check out the video that has audio of all the Les Mis singers messing up. Personally, I’m a trained theatre singer, and also have experience in choirs, acapella groups, etc. There are days my voice can sing practically anything easily, and then there are other days where anybody listening would be seriously concerned for my health. So far I haven’t done any noticeable permanent damage to voice (I’ve been checked out by ENTs a couple times). I’m not on the same level as Broadway performers, but the struggles are similar no matter what your level. In this particular case, I doubt Broadway singers are truly in tip top vocal condition after a year and a half off. They’ve probably still been taking voice lessons (albeit over Zoom in many cases), but that just can’t compare to the level of vocal conditioning required to sing a Broadway lead role every night 5-6 days a week. Suggesting a person can just dive back into that with no hiccups is like suggesting an NFL athlete can jump right back into the grind of training camp and the regular season with no hiccups just because they’ve been working out at home. This principle is especially true with the insane belting roles like Elphaba and Elsa.
Well said! The voice is probably the most difficult instrument to control, not to mention Elphaba is probably one of the most challenging roles on Broadway. I think a lot of people don’t realize or forget how much endurance is required to sing/belt. You don’t just stand there, open your mouth, and sound comes out. 😂 ***UPDATE: Just watched Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre and it was pure magic!!!Literally can’t stop thinking and talking about it. Lindsay Pearce was PHENOMENAL. She killed it from beginning to end and clearly overcame any struggles shown in this rehearsal video. Perfect resonance and control throughout, no strain at all. Marvelous and beautiful. Ginna as Galinda/Glinda couldn’t be more perfect! My GAWD just insanely incredible! And the acting was SO brilliant; extremely well delivered. GO SEE WICKED if you can! This cast definitely won’t disappoint in the slightest. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll be obsessed.
Yes!!! You train and train…but rehearsals are hard. Any professional performer will tell you eight shows a week is hard. She seems to have all the technique in place to manage her role and she is killing it. I feel her.
I really wish shows were redoing different cast recordings from time to time because all of them sound amazing!!! I wish I could listen to them in a proper quality 💜 also 2:20??? I WAS NOT PREPARED WOW
Wicked is my all-time favourite musical, I've seen it five times so far, more than any other musical. So watching this and hearing these songs again was so special. Welcome back WICKED
This is so amazing!! The leading ladies are both soooo talented, and I’m BEYOND happy that GC got to continue her run as Glinda!! She and Mary Kate Morrissey (her Elphie on the tour) are easily my fave pair as of right now, but Lindsay is doing such an amazing job!! So excited they’re reopening Tuesday! Edit: so I saw the current national tour cast about a month ago, and i think there is a three-way tie of my fave pairs between Talia Suskauer and Allison Bailey (who I saw live!), Lindsay and GC, and MK and GC. I'm really indecisive XD
IM SO HAPPY😊 I've been so excited for Wicked! I know this is Ginna, but I met Kristin Chenoweth this summer and she's SO sweet! I auditioned and got into her broadway bootcamp and it was AMAZING.
JUst got back from seeing the national tour in Sacramento. *LOVED* the new addition of a short fanfare in place of the cast yelling "CONGRATULOTIONS!" during "Thank Goodness"
How have I never come across this video? So awesome, and I'm so glad there was footage of this rehearsal. I love how you can see the excitement in the body language of everyone for this rehearsal.
Just in the "for what it's worth" column, Dee Roscioli is my fav "Elphie" of all time. Having said that, how great is it that this show continues on!!!
Yeah that’s exactly what I was thinking. I appreciate the passion she put into it but it sounded like she was struggling which is weird since I’m pretty sure she’s a classically trained (probably full-lyric) soprano. Could’ve been since this was just rehearsal though
@@islandeatssand684 Not only that, but she was clearly very emotional singing this for the first time in a rehearsal room after over a year. Her vocals from march 2020 already show she’s capable of executing it well.
I'm no singer but I have a lot of friends who are (most of them went on to teach voice) and from what they've told me it's just like an athlete - when you're restricted from training/rehearsing for long periods of time, it takes a bit for your muscles to get back into shape. Lindsay is obviously rusty but she'll blow it off in rehearsal. I'm sure she'll be fine by the time she's back onstage.
3 things; 1st and foremost, welcome back we missed you. 2nd, think in Defying Gravity, or at least the part you showed, Wizard should be changed to Covid, Because lastly, with the fierceness in which Lindsay sang it in the clip, her dress as Elphaba, Covid or anyone would be running scared. Goosebumps!!!!!
This was hard to watch. I feel bad that they put Lindsay Pearce on the spot by filming this moment. She's struggling with those high notes and the show hadn't even begun. Her opening night songs were painful to hear, because of the pressure she was putting on her voice. I know, I know... "The voice is a muscle that you have to keep training", but you'd think after that long of a vocal rest, it'd be in a better shape.
@@RaraNewJersey Nothing against her in the show as Elohim, but you’re lying to yourself if you think she performed smoothly in this esp in DG. Everyone has off days but it’s a lie to say it was an amazing performance
Aidan Lam I didn't say she did smoothly? Lol? But I think it was good because it is my opinion and for you to tell me that my opinion is wrong is ignorant. You can't change my mind because its my opinion but I would LOVE for you to go out on a stage in front of millions and do these songs she does and then have people judge you. Would feel pretty crappy, huh? So with that said, thank you, you're dismissed
Elphaba sounds really heavy here but it’s probably cause it was the end of a long rehearsal. You can hear her here (below), she’s doing so much better. That mix is great. ua-cam.com/video/t37kr1rFJ1k/v-deo.html
she’s a standby for Glinda, and standbys aren’t part of the ensemble bc they step into the role when an understudy is sick/unavailable, or if an actor gets hurt during the show, the standby will replace the actor mid-show and continue on with the performance. I’m assuming this was a rehearsal just for the ensemble and principle leading roles, not standbys.
I have been in shows where people used laundry baskets to carry their things. If you have a lot to carry around many prefer baskets over backpacks. It's also easier to access things when you're stationary like this read through
I REALLY need to stop clicking on videos of rehearsals. Nobody in these are in “show shape,” and that’s why they are in REHEARSAL. The rehearsal room should be your safe space to learn your track, work on the story elements, and make mistakes. I hate it when civilians are in the room when I’m just trying to learn my track. The last show I was in, we even had “invited guests” (donors) at our table read. I got over it because it was a paycheck gig, but it still pissed me off. I get why big shows like this allow press in, I just really wish they didn’t. And that I get more willpower to resist these peaks.
Yes elphaba was struggling a little but can people just remember us performers have had such a massive break from performing. Even Broadway performers get rusty.
I did not mean to offend anyone. If I did I apologize. I just re acted without thinking. The spelling was auto spell. I do know how to spell her name. I stand buy my thought that this girl seemed to be struggling. Her performance was a little rough. The rest of the cast was great.
They're not even like, performing performing, but it still makes me cryyyyy!!! I can't wait for the tour to come to Boston! 💚🖤🤍💗

I think Ginna and Alli are the funniest GA-lindas, while I really like Eden as Elpheba.
i can totally relate to the blond guy reaction behind Lindsay Pearce while singing the last part of Defying Gravity
I saw ginna back in 2019! She’s awesome

Just saw the show for the first time yesterday! It was amazing!!!!

They sound fabs
Hooray
Ginna is perfection!
The Glinda is awesome

Vocal damage for the Elphaba?
No kidding
Idina: can relate
man, i wish i could afford going to see broadway shows
