WHO AM I?
+ My name is Brittany and I’m a lawyer living life in New York. I love showing you guys what my life is like here in New York and what delicious places there are to eat and what fun things there are to do. Your support means the world to me :)
Experience NYC through my lens.
How much are you willing to spend on rent?
Brittany Tran $1500💰
I pay $2100 for two bed a month n $100 for parking a block away. This is in Queens. If you cut down on starbucks, fancy resto, hanging out, buying expensive useless crap, than you can survive NYC easily. Save n save. Ive been a NYer all my life and rent then was relatively not that expensive. Pre 9/11 NYC was ballin and Alive. Real NYC, but grimy n still dangerous. Normal for most...lol
Brittany Tran $1900 💵
Almighty God yo what’s your contact info we need to talk, I’m thinking about moving to nyc and need more info
In nyc rent is so expensive but other expenses are not that much, if you budget well you can certainly survive. Good logical talk thank you.
I've lived in New York City my whole life and would move someplace else with a better standard of living in a heartbeat. What you get for your money here is just not worth it. It might be good only for a few years while you're young and want to do all the young people stuff but it's not a good place to raise kids and live here long term.
yes, agreed. when it's time for us to have kids we will probably move back to California to be near our families.
I need this!!! 🙏🙏😭 True! Rent is eating all my money here in New York!! Thank you for sharing this! 🙏😍
no problem :) hopefully the tips helped some! it's definitely not cheap living here.
I remember when I was renting a studio back in 2011-2013 in the east village, it was around $1700/month for a tiny windowless 400 sq foot room. Today I checked the prices on in that same building and it’s about $3000/month for that same studio setup. 😭😭😭 I admire your hustle and ability to thrive in NYC. I absolutely agree that budgeting is SO crucial especially living in such an expensive city.
yeah it's so crazy how much prices are being raised! especially since the east village is really popular now.
if you haven't seen her other budget videos, you totally should! super real and super helpful content!
Look for places that include utilities!! Utilities can really ding you if it's the middle of summer or winter. Also, there is something called net rent, which means the price listed on the apartment is different online vs. on the lease. I used Nooklyn in my apartment search, and my broker has educated me tremendously throughout the process.
Thanks. You helped me decide I need to stay in the South!
aww, New York is definitely worth moving to in my opinion despite the high rent costs!
I found this really useful as someone who is looking to move to NYC with their partner in the next year, so thank you! I have been looking at apartments already which is both exciting to envisage where we will live but also sad that I can't apply yet because it's still many months before we're actually ready to move! I want to be prepared as possible hence starting early aha :)
I was born in nyc and rented in the Bronx when I started working. I would recommend livng in westchester or north Bronx.... great for your peace of mind and nature..... riverdale, Pelham, etc. living and working in manhattan will take a toll on your spirit and mind over the years..... too many people stuff in- poor air quality..... nyc is about making money... but you need to enjoy nature-trees and lawns- parks and less people and more space.... express bus will get you in the city in no time... beats the trains...…..in addition yonkers residence tax is much lower than NYC.. any place outside of NYC will have a cheaper tax rate......
good to know!
I love your series! :D
yay! I'm glad :D
Thank you for realistic advice!
Watching your UA-cam to improve my English listening, I am from Taiwan.
hopefully I am not speaking too fast!
Good info Brittany!!
even though i dont live in the city no more, i enjoy watching your videos on budgeting.
yay! I'm glad
Super useful Brittany!!! ughh moving is stressing me out!!
you can do it!
Very usefull for foreigners 👌
The 40x rent thing to me is hecking scary
I’m not interested in being a lawyer (I’m working in engineering), don’t really want to live in NY, but I find your life really interesting! I live in OC, which I think you said you went to Chapman University? Very cool. Do you miss OC? Is that where you’re from originally or did you just go there for law school?
I'm glad you find my life interesting! yes, I did go to Chapman for law school. I miss the OC because it was very clean, open spaces and close to LA, SD etc. I'm from norcal originally, went to undergrad in San Diego and then law school at chapman.
Love your channel...SUBSCRIBED❤❤❤
look up portable washer
What a rap god!
Does it get hard to haul groceries without an elevator? Being from California was it hard to adjust to nyc winters?
in New York most people just grocery shop week to week so it's not as heavy but yes it's pretty difficult. I just put one bag on one hand and the other on the other hand and quickly walk up - it's a good work out! It's also why I shop at Whole Foods because it's so close to me even though it's a bit more pricey because I can't imagine walking more than 4 streets with heavy grocery bags. a lot of other people order their groceries online and get it delivered. it was hard (it still is) but if you are prepared you'll survive. get a good jacket, warm boots, heattech clothes, gloves, earmuffs, etc. it's not fun but it's only 4 months of cold weather :D
Brittany, Can you please name some of the cheaper areas (relatively speaking) of CA to live???? I don't know much about CA and I am in desperate need of help! Just found your channel and love your videos! :)
+Lila Love are you moving to a certain area? Are you looking fo live in Northern California or Southern California and how far are you willing to drive from school or work?
@@BrittanyTran I would not mind living in either but I think I would prefer southern CA. I am a RN and looking to move there this year. Thank you!!
+Lila Love SoCal is pretty large and because of traffic it might make sense to live close to where you work. I would suggest finding a job first and then figuring out where to live near there. If you want to move before finding a job I would suggest looking in the inland empire near riverside or cities like Downey, Buena Park, Fullerton, Cerritos or Long Beach might be more reasonable. Some areas have pockets of reaonsabls housing so it depends
@@BrittanyTran Thanks so much! Trying to get idea about cheaper areas so can apply for jobs there....
Manhattan isn’t the other borough where “everything is happening”
Only
Would you ever consider living somewhere else?
I'm from California! I never thought I would move outside of California and here I am haha. I think I wouldn't mind checking out a another major city...but for now I can see us moving back to California.
Lol no girl, queens is the suburbs.
how much rent do you pay?
if you look at my first living on a budget video I talk about my budget for rent. For our studio we pay a little under $2,000/month.
Brittany Tran have you been the same amount of rent since the beginning? or has it increased?
thx
we happen to live in a rent controlled building so it only increased by a small percentage. but usually they increase it $100-200 dollars more per month after the first year.
You’re so lucky to live in NY💕💕 I love it!! Cool video!! If you can please check out my new video...DIY Granola Bars thank you
nyc apartments are just a ripoff, how can you pay $2k & not even have cloth & dish washing machines, etc, stuff people in suburbs can get at 500 box. One guy last time showed an apartment were he pays 3k/month in nyc, it was run down with rotting wood from the 18th century, old & dead lights, no cloth/dish washing machines & of course run down looking neighborhood, disgusting!
true, but you get to live in an exciting city like New York!
Very usefull for foreigners 👌
