Chickens are a pleasure to keep and if you spend the time with them they are very friendly and some will even jump/ attempt to fly up into your arms for pats. Memories of a very friendly chicken I had in past😅. Love the automated gates
Oh wow! They are sooo friendly and yes they try to jump in our arms or stand close to us and "ask to be picked up" I swear!!! No one would believe it but it's a fact! 😁🐔Automatic door is very cool!
What a beautiful property you have been blessed with! Will the chickens ever fly over your fence and outside of your property? I’ve seen chickens roost high up in trees and fly over high fences before. How is it that they stay in the yard and not fly elsewhere? I will be adopting four hens soon and afraid they’ll fly over the neighbors low fence, they have dogs in their yard. I love your hen fostering the guinea, so adorable🥹
Hi yesterday-today-forever! thankyou!🤠If you clip one wing on each bird they can't fly because they are off balance 😊Also if they have food and a happy place to be they don't want to escape. They are quite content to live a chill life 😁🐔 If you have any questions let me know and ill see if I can help 😊Enjoy your chooks!
Hello There, thanks for this great video!!! I am building a steel frame coop near Port Douglas in FNQ and love your design. Just a couple of questions: What is the mesh that you have used? Have you got mesh under the colorbond / how did you make it snake proof between the tin and the steel frame? Have you had any snakes get through?
Hello! We got it made by this guy facebook.com/share/XakPsNrbdTPR6QDo/. It is heavy duty square mesh. There is a mesh roof with a gap and then the Colorbond. No snakes have gotten in except when the door is open during the day. We check it each night before we lock them up. The best thing about the design is that having a gap between the mesh roof and the colorbond creates a place that pythons will gravitate too because they think they are hiding. You can easily see them at least when they are there. There is a saying with chickens and pythons and that is "look up". As a rule, the only time we get pythons is when there are chicks and even more so if there are guinea fowl keets. There is footage in this video you can see ua-cam.com/video/BGxBPAa41A8/v-deo.html . Hope that helps and good luck! Its well worth it! 😁👍
They can survive easily as long as they can free range. We have a premium complete food in case we need it and for a bit of variety and because the chooks love it. We are glad we did over the last week when we had to lock the chickens up for 2 days because of Jasper. Also if we are feeling lazy and can't be bothered picking papaya, sweet potato leaves, tree lettuce, banana leaves etc we have a lazy option. Also if we go away and our son looks after the place he uses it to make it easier. The eggs taste better though the more they just free range. In Asia they just chuck the chickens a handful of rice a day and the chickens do the rest so we don't worry too much 😁We do have to give them grit or their eggshells can get weak!
I'm surprised you don't feed them coconut, I'm also in the tropics, aren't you worried about hurricane season?, hurricane Maria killed 95% of all my birds. I'm building a weird coop I'm calling the chicken bunker, im building it stronger than most people build their homes here...I love your set up, but afraid of any Hurricanes coming your way.
Hi Mosaicmaster! Our coconuts are not fruiting yet but we will when we get them 🤠We call them cyclones here and yes we have to think about it 😊but not stress. We have a chicken cyclone plan which is to spread out tarps in one of the rooms in the house, give them nesting boxes food and water and let them shelter inside the house with us lol. They also have a very very strong coop for tropical stormy weather. There are so many amazing benefits to living and producing your own food in the tropics but cyclones are the down side 🙄good on you for building a strong coop! Have a great day!

Hi 👋 Do you ever need to give the chooks supplementary feeding like grains? Or do they not need anything extra with the greens and bugs?

We also give them sunflower seeds as a treat 🥰
@@vintagefoodfarm oh cool. We’re going to give it a go 👍🏼
Not sure if I missed it in your first video, but how far from the coast is your property?
Maybe 15 kms 🤠and up 400m approx 😁
@@vintagefoodfarm nice. Love your videos and enthusiasm
🤠👍
