A couple years ago my husband on New Year’s Day poured me a glass of wine, turned on music, and pulled out my nail polish hoard. He very nicely but very authoritively said - You have a problem, lol! I went through it and by that I mean I dumped it all and have had zero regrets!
I was hanging on to my kids artwork and school papers, then the grandkids artwork and school papers, knickknacks they liked when they were young etc. My youngest grandkid is now 16. They have zero interest in any of the stuff I saved, and I hardly get to see any of them anyway. I also kept it all just in case they might visit and have a flashback moment for themselves. Also I kept stuff so when I died they could see by all the momentous how much granny loved them! That’s pretty weird. Then I woke up, lol. All anyone would really say is “I can’t believe ma kept all this junk”. When I struggle letting go of anything, I renew my efforts by finding another video like this excellent one. (Also see Swedish Death Clean for we older ones.) It helps to realize that no one wants to deal with your stuff (not even you) so be kind and loving to yourself and your family and work on your relationships, your spirituality, your hobbies, or whatever truly makes you happy. Ask yourself this before acquiring something new, how long will this make me happy? Usually the answer is - not that long.
So glad I found you ! I have decluttered and streamlined my home and life dramatically over the years. It was a process but it cured my anxiety- now I see that our society’s consumerism is really hurting us and stressing us. Less is better ! Less is peace.
@@fiona3092 if u go upstairs take stuff up if u go down grab what needs to go down throw acouple of things out every day or have a donate box. If it doesn't fit throw it out or damaged try something different to wear evey day if u dont want to then let it go. Soon the wardrobe will look emptier if u pick something up say do i need it can i live without it. And spend a few mins with a trash bag just putting rubbish in. Ur place will soon look better and it will give u the push to carry on and life is easier without it u will feel so different without most of it. Just focus on grabbing a few things i wouldnt drag everything out at first just a few items then nothing is worse than when u started only better. Good luck the biggest step is starting. Just say im gona do a few items then stop or throw a few things away.
It’s so refreshing to watch a joyful person talk about minimalism! I often find that other creators are soooo serious about it. Although it is challenging and very difficult at times, the journey should be a happy, freeing and fun experience. I’ve been working on it for yearsssss and I still have many improvements to make. Like my 17 lipsticks 😂. Keep up the good work, and stay safe!
I have a small bowl that I jokingly call “I might have a problem.” It’s lip balm. About 20ish tubes. Plus there are a couple in the car, one at my office (in a small personal care bag- I don’t tote a purse around generally). I’m going through and culling the almost gone, the sticky and the too stiff to use (usually age and beeswax creates this). My goal is to have five in there.
I have the same hand cream problem. Sales buy 2 get 1 free was part of it. Smelling something that smelled beautiful in the store was part of it. But I filled a whole tote full of the hand creams and it became obvious that I need that space for all of my kitchen gadgets.
@@wishingb5859 I generally don't use lotions or perfume, I just go to the mall and spray up or try on a lotion. It satisfies that craving or whatever it is, (I tell myself I'm looking for the perfect scent and I'll come back to it if I love it) but that took a lot of keeping track, and now I just do it for fun
This is the first video of yours that I've stumbled upon and watched. You're a delight! I used to buy a brand of frozen tamales that were packaged in a printed drawstring cotton bag, and I saved all of the bags for years! I folded them neatly in vertical Kondo fashion and filed them away in a bin. Crazy! I've since tossed all of them, obviously.
You helped me realize that I have kept several drawstring bags that various sheet sets came in, rationalizing that they will come in handy some day. That day has never come!! Time to let go…..
Looool! I’ve been looking for those tamales for a while now! My mom use to fix them for us when we were young. Are they called Tom Tom’s? Looool!!!! Thx for the memorable memories.
I found you back in the day when I was getting into makeup. I am now 22, and super interested in minimalism and downsizing. I used to have hoader habits when I was a kid. Now I have to deal with going through everything. I am going to be a teacher! I am graduating this December. So I have to find a good system for my teacher items. I really like Reggio Emilia for Preschool. It fits with the whole minimalist style :)
Thank you for your sensitivity around using the term hoarder, as it is a serious condition. I think that what you describe was definitely a hoarding mindset, and I'm glad you've managed to curb it early! There's a book, "Buried in Treasures" which is a hoarder workbook that I'm working through. It includes the emotional reasons people hoard, and the things you mentioned are in there.
I still have my cardboard CTR box that I colored when I was a little girl in primary and I have birthday cards in there from my primary teacher. And I’m 51 ;)
I have binge watched your videos over the last few days and am on a huge mission to be able to achieve this as well. I have decluttered so much over the last few yrs but now I am being ruthless with it thanks to all your tips and tricks even with my kids things. Things dont define us anymore and it is so freeing. Thank you from the bottom of my hearr
As a former teacher myself and on a journey to a more minimalistic lifestyle, your story just resonates with me! Just subscribed and I'm looking forward to binge watching more of your content. :)
I'm at the moment on my journey from a horder to a minimalist. It's not easy and it takes time but omg how rewarding the result is ❤💖 I have just decluttered my kitchen, now I'm working on my livingroom, then it's the bedroom and last but not least, my storage-unit 😊
hey girl i just minimized our home and wow o wow the space the freedom the calm my o my it feels awesome!!! I love minimalism, less to clean less to dust etc ..... ahhhhh
I always love your content, especially how cheerful you are!! Some other videos i watch about Minimalism seem sad or serious. Yours is opposite. It shows me that you are really happy living with less. My husband and i started doing the 30 day minimalism challenge backwards. So on day one, we got rid of 30 items and 29 on day 2 and so on. So far, we are down over 140 items. I dont need a challenge, but it really helps my husband cus he is competitive. Its been working great so far and feels so good to FINALLY let things go.
@@jesusislord3280 There are online groups where you can give away items free instead of throwing them out or selling them (especially if goodwill or others won't take them). I joined a local freecycle group on Facebook but you can also post an item as free on nextdoor/facebook/craigslist. I do this because I like making sure my items are going to a good home and won't get thrown out. For example, I will batch bathroom/cleaning products or craft supplies together and post pics of them to the group.
@@AMcDub0708 I agree, sometimes even homeless shelters or people in freecycle groups don't mind if the item is open/used as long as it is clean and in good condition.
I literally carried this HUGE box (probably half the size of a fridge) of sentimental items since I was 8... it just kept growing and growing and every time I would move (a lot) I would say "I'm going to go through this" and now that I finally did a few weeks ago, I literally have 3 envelopes of letters/cards... I feel so much lighter! Great video!
I need to find a person to help me. My Mother died last July during covid. We lived in the same house for years prior. It was not the best relationship I felt cornered and she would even go through the garbage I tossed out. It was a constant bombardment later when she was having dementia about anything I had. It was always a confrontation. I had other serious child hood trauma and I am now on the verge of losing it in this house. My family has offered zero help to do anything with her things. I just build up walls.. in stuff. So Make sure you know what HOARDING IS.. before you say you have a cluttered closet.
Almost everything you were talking about I said: “Oh my goodness! Me too!” Especially the journals! I love them and have sooo many of them, I wrote on first page in most of them and never continued. I am in the begging of decluttering. I love it! But it will be a process. I have so much junk! Thank you for the video! So inspiring!
I used to hoard magazines. About two, maybe three years ago, I bit the bullet and recycled over 200 magazines. They were mostly home magazines and I kept them thinking I would reference them when I went to decorate rooms in my home. I finally realized I could just use Pinterest for ideas and inspiration, so the magazines had to go! It still feels good knowing I got rid of them and no longer buy them. I love watching your videos on decluttering and minimalism!
Oh man. I could relate to so much. The cards, the costume jewelry I thought I would wear. I’ve recently got rid of a ton of cards, the makeup, and jewelry. I finally faced reality of what I was actually wearing and wanted to keep! And YAS, I remember your makeup videos. 🥰
"Filling a fort..."🤣 I'll be using that. Thank you so much for your honesty, your pantry story is what sold me on your sincerity. Thank you for being honest and real!
I am a hoarder of makeup and since having my baby I have realized I only use a few things regularly. Now I just have all of this makeup sitting there and I feel guilty every time I look at it!! It’s time to let it go I guess. 😄
Brichelle Cummings coming from a former makeup hoarder... toss it! If it’s making you feel bad when you see it, then maybe it’s time to make room for something that makes you happy. Good luck! 💙
Good job!! Let me mention that decluttering and minimalist habits are a lifelong routine. Doing it the first time is the hardest step and after that it becomes more or less a habit, a lifestyle. But it's something that always requires awareness and mindfulness. I think it's tremendously healthy for the mind and the budget! Right now I'm in the process of decluttering and organizing my kitchen shelves and cabinets.... again. It feels marvelous! Great video!
What is it about lotions?! You gave me the inspiration to finally toss my bin of fragranced lotions I never use! I’ve organized and decluttered my bathroom closet twice now and I always keep the lotion bin! Why?! It’s getting tossed today! Thank you!
Jewelry; friends came over for Christmas, brought me gifts. I didn't have anything for them! Then, I remembered I had tons of jewelry, NEW WITH TAGS. I wrapped earrings up and gave it to them! Haha...
I am so happy I ‘clicked’ on this video! And, amazed at all the parellels of what you mentioned. Each and every one you mentioned is in my life, too. Thank You! Time to get a garbage bag and a big donation box...thank you, again!!! 👏👏👏👏👏
It HURTS throwing away stuff we’ve never used and are never going to use. If it was a gift, I feel sad like I should’ve enjoyed that gift. If I bought it, I feel cheated!
I’m loving your videos. They inspire me to get up and declutter or clean up something! Great practical ideas and positive advice not criticize yourself and joyfully move forward. Lol, the jewelry ball.
Something I did for my small appliances and later my woodworking hand tools, bought a two door cabinet just for that. The mixer, toaster, hand mixer, waffle maker etc. all go in there. This can fit in a closet, spare bedroom, laundry room or utility room. We don't use these everyday like a coffeemaker and it frees up a lot of space. If you have a closet you can add shelves to will work also.
Thanks for telling us you were able to get rid of so many cards. I keep them, too. And letters. So many letters. It was another era, I guess. Everything's on social media now. You're very likable.
One of the things I have learned on this journey, is it is OK to have an empty cupboard. That cupboard above the Fridge that some of us have. The only way I could get things out was to stand on a stool. I first put all my cookbooks there and never used them. I found a small space, got rid of the ones I know I did not use, and left that cupboard empty and I do have stuff on top of the Fridge but it doesn't bother me as I have a very small kitchen and this is perfect place to store my Instant pot and my crock pot. These 2 items are used at least once a week. Thanks for reminders of letting it go and it is OK.
Love your lightheartedness! I am a hoarder with most of that stuff too. I can still feel the pull of not wanting to let it GOOOOOO. Why do I need makeup I got for free in HIGH SCHOOL? I will have some of that make up when I die at the rate I go through eyeshadow.
I have hoarded bath & body works lotions for years! It’s something I use at least twice a day but I still have way too much! Since covid, I haven’t shopped there and it’s really allowed me to go through quite a few bottles! I’m seeing it’s nice to use what you have before buying more.
In 2016 I took a picture of all of my Bath & Body Works body washes and sprays. I gave some away and haven't shopped for that stuff since. I'm still trying to use it all up.
Oh..I hear you on the lotion. I used to have shelves of Bath and Body Works stuff in my closet. It has taken me YEARS to get through all of it and now I am down to the one that I am using, one on my desk, and I have one in my closet that was a gift from a friend that I will use up when I need another one. I am waiting to use those up so that I can buy my all time favorite Body Shop Coconut Body Butter. I still have a ton of shower gel that I bought at a sale once, but that’s fine because my entire family uses them. I used to hoard hair products as well. Now I only have what I use and do not replace styling products until they are almost gone.
My habits are almost everything you mentioned: makeup, journals, supplies and lol lotions! Yeah why is it I can’t let go of lotion or makeups?? Ready to make a difference not quite there but watching your video (I just found you other day and this second video I found today) is giving me a good incentive now to let go of things holding on to but I don’t use. Good video!
It's such a process!!! I've been at it for almost a year and still have a long way to go!! Slow and steady wins!!! So happy you found my channel! Excited to have you here!
I sorted my pantry/storage cupboard out today thanks to you I managed to declutter so many jars and tubs lol and I actually managed to get stuff I had stored in a long ottamon (don’t ask! I really struggle for space) into my little storage cupboard. Thank u sooo much. I noted everything I have into my phones notes.
Im slowly working on getting my makeup collection down!!! Using one pallet until its gone. One blush until its gone and not buying more until that product category is completely gone!!! Its feels so good. Also doing this with my lotions and perfumes!
I'm turning 30 in two months and I've come to the recollection I have hoarding tendencies, love to shop way too much, and just am struggling to clean and organize my home. Thank you for the inspiration
I am a photo hoarder! Whether it's in print or on my phone . Still trying to figure out a system to make sure I declutter my phone and my photos because I'm so attached 😅
Love your channel! I'm working on decluttering and minimizing our home...but what a process. I'm giving myself a hoarder title for some things...love home decor and crafts...omg! Thanks Candace for your videos, I really enjoy them!
isn't it odd that it's the hoarders that eventually become minimalist and love that label. im one too. man the stuff was just wow... so stressful. love your video. thanks for sharing!
I used to hoard cards too. Now, I too, only keep the ones that have something real written in them. Mostly the ones from my parents because what they write is always a little journal of sorts. I have them in a binder, open and flat, in those clear sleeves so I can see the whole card without removing it. Throwing away all the dumb cards that didn't have true sentimental value was so cleansing.
I believe we hold on to clothing because we tend to identify ourselves with those clothes. I believe throwing them away might cause some of us to feel like we are throwing away a piece of us (whether past selves or a self we desire to be like). Another reason I believe we tend to hold on to clothing is because they are so expensive! :)
Grew up in a military family - have moved many, many times. Recently sold my house and got rid of a ton of stuff. BUT - I still have all the "heritage" items my mom said to keep for future generations. My children don't want them, the grandchildren even less. Having a hard time deciding what to do with them. I have donated a lot but I still have a storage unit. Thanks for your Positivity - it gives me hope I can conquer even this challenge. Coming to terms with "what no one wants - doesn't really matter." Sell if possible, donate or toss if not.
I’m a teacher and I feel like hoarding supplies is typical in this profession. I have a storage unit full of teaching supplies and I decided that I am going to post it all online for new teachers starting out to come “shop” my storage unit. I pay to store this crap that I don’t really need anymore. The only thing that worked out was prepping to teach from home, it made me go in there and realize I’m good without most of it!
Way to go! Yep, some of those areas are a struggle for me too. Would love to declutter but finding the time, health and energy is extremely challenging! I, too, feel like I am suffocating in my own home!
I subscribed as soon as I read the title of this video. I’m currently a hoarder myself but I aspire to be a minimalist!! You give me hope that it can happen💕
I have huge bins of pictures that were damaged in a house fire 7 years ago. They're damaged beyond repair. Stuck to frames, smoke damaged, water damaged.. I can't bring myself to throw them out. I could probably take them to a professional , but there's so many and it would probably cost more than I'd want to pay. Ugh 😥
I'd suggest making a small art piece with some of it. Something you can actually display. After my parent's house fire, I lost everything of any sentiment because I only had practical and functional items with me in my post college apt. My brothers cut a chunk of my melted memorabilia items out of the rubble. They ozoned it to make it not smell anymore and then put a thick clear coat over it and made it mountable. It's my favorite piece of art and actually looks like art, not just burnt trash. And honestly, even 9 years later, it's the only sentimental thing I would never get rid of now. One simple item now that has parts of my first 25 years of memories embedded in it.
Hello, I absolutely love your channel. You are so positive and fun, a breathe of fresh air. I also love journals. I think I just like the idea of them more than I actually use them. I now have just one that I use to write notes, to do’s, reminders, just anything I need to jot down. Rather than 10 journals I planned to write in daily with my memories of the day and end up writing one or two pages and then forgetting about it.
Just found you, this is a great video! I’m not a minimalist in any way but I am big on decluttering and having items which bring me joy, rather than just having stuff. I’ve always been good at decluttering and clearing out but nothing ever felt “right”. I figured it’s because I was doing these huge purges and then just buying MORE STUFF. This year, after some CBT for anxiety, I actually got to the root of the problem and now I see things so differently. My makeup collection is so small now, it’s not even a “collection” it’s just a regular makeup bag rather than drawers and drawers full. Same with my skincare. I purged my clothes and stopped buying what I thought I should wear (as a 35yr old mum) and now I have a small amount of clothes I WANT to wear, same with bags, shoes, accessories. Cards, journals...all gone. I feel I can finally BREATHE now. We live somewhere temporarily which isn’t ours and means we can’t declutter a lot of the things, so i can’t wait for the day when we’re in our home with so much less STUFF.
I know exactly what you mean about being able to breathe! I feel like a burden lifted without so much to manage. Decluttering literally changed my life!
Such a cute gal! Love your bubbly personality & honesty. As a retired teacher, I definitely relate. I think that as teachers we are always wanting to be prepared & wanting to use materials in new ways. It’s hard to part with those items we’ve developed. Thanks for your video.
Omgoodness! It's like you're describing me! 🤦♀️ (Hoarding cards, journals & lotions!). It's nice to hear how a normal person got there sh*t in order, instead of wondering how the heck I'm gonna be like this perfect minimalist girl, so thanks!! 😁😁😁
You are awesome! Oh my gosh! I got over greeting cards when we downsized my folks to an assisted living apt. They had a lifetime of greeting cards. Nearly 3x the amount you once kept. Now, I do not send out cards and if I receive any I usually put them in recycling within a day. (One aunt always signs her cards with the same message.) I'm retired so can release my office attire. I haven't yet. I'm still figuring out where I can send them. Some are rather nice and I think I can take to a consignment shop. It stymies me. I don't wear makeup anymore. Special occasions I find my mascara has dried up.
I collected a lot of makeup in the past. Now, I have an Instagram account of all my empties. Yup. I use them all up until the last drop. Not buying until I have used up at least two makeup products. Also, I hoarded cards like you. Even decors. Started getting rid of 40% of them already. Hugs. :)
These are all great! On my journey, I have really declutter any clothing and jewelry I don’t wear. Although I still have lots of clothing, it is all items I wear throughout the year / seasons / holidays. I never take freebies, samples, etc. I also try to keep one of things (cosmetics, cleaning items, toiletries, etc) vs having a huge back stock.
I keep cards from the kids, but not from anybody else. I have old clothes/shoes because I haven't bought anything in a long time. If clothes are too worn out, I cut them up for rags. If clothing is a gift from one of the kids, then I keep it forever. I don't buy anything anymore unless it is a necessity. No purchasing of nail polish, jewelry, clothes/shoes (I won't buy anymore until these are worn out), and that's just the beginning of the list. I agree, if my house can breathe, then I can breathe.
We hang on to clothes because we probably spent a pile of money on these pieces, or we have hope of wearing them again. Or we are just seriously overwhelmed by all the stuff.🙋♀️ guilty! I feel so much better after going through it all! Love your channel
A lot of these things are also my experiences. And it's okay to call yourself a hoarder, if you feel like it. Most of us only now that hoarders are those crazy people we see on the sensational, dramatic shows. The truth is, it all begins with your head. The fact that lots of us are able to notice it and help themselves (with the means of Internet, therapists, etc). only shows that *if not for the change we committed to* we'd end up like many of those extreme hoarders. I see that what I had in my head concernign many things were the exact same thing that my hoarding family members or the people on the show have. The fact that I am now on my way to being a minimalist (after many years I'm midway) doesn't disprove my hoarding tendencies. I know my thoughts and I know that with hoarding, I have to constantly control myself and review what and why I bring into my life. I still struggle, nearly daily.
In my experience people hold on to clothing is because they have too much and in the confusion they don't notice what they don't wear or why. When you have enough and regularly wear what you have it's easier to notice "this blouse doesn't fit well" or "these panties are GONE". This week I wore a rip into one set of sheets. I am actually proud of it. I used the fabric up. I might even sew them up or do a patch, because I like to buy sheet sets when I travel and... there is a pandemic.
Boxes. I used to hoard boxes. Now, I only keep the ones I have specific uses for, and I THROW OUT the others (recycle). I used to ask family members to return the boxes I wrapped their gifts in if they didn't plan to keep them (which was okay, if they did). My sister-in-law is amazed that I can now let go of boxes, haha. She used to return the gift boxes . . . bless her heart.
You shouldn't feel bad for your past, thank you for being honest about it!! 💚 it's when we take an honest look at our past and be authentic with ourselves that we learn. I have just come across your videos and I love them. You're so authentic and relatable, thank you! I'm certainly in the process of hoarder to minimalist ish, and it's a very interesting look at myself. I have healed some similar habits to what you mentioned. But still struggle with sentimental items and get paralyzed by how to discard in the most ethical way for particular items. Eg land fill haunts me. . Getting there.. Anyway, thank you again for your beautiful smile (you don't need make-up BTW) and your refreshing transperancy 💚💞🙏😊
I think it's so tough when it comes to kid's stuff!! I am always worried I'll get rid of something they will be sad about later... Having them go through it themselves really is the only way!! Thanks for subbing! So happy to have you!
Held on to Cards B-D &Christmas as well from loved ones. W/ winter here in the east I have several jackets, also make jewellery, sweaters and jackets also boots!
I just got rid of a huge box of much smaller size clothing, that I had for ten years. I didn't realize I had it for that long. I decided that if I ever got down to that size again, I'd want new clothing.
I love your videos very inspiring! I have hoarded costume jewelry. One day I realized right after covid and I was working remotely from home. I would only reach for maybe ten pieces. I decided to let it go.
Yesterday, I realized I hoarded empty cardboard boxes of many sizes. Now they are in recycling bin! If I ever move again, I will want all boxes the same size for easy stacking in moving van
omg yes! I still have a box of old cards and sentimental items I need to sort through. Now greeting cards go away after a week or two, unless they are truly special with a handwritten note I want to reread some day.
Amen amen amen amen... i have hoarded many of the same... lol it was funny to hear you talk about ME ME. ME. ME!!! And one of my first strategies to correct this crazy train was to control what came into the house.. so whoa on the collections and I strongly evaluate my purchases.. Nail polish- same- and I use 2-3 brands and have one color from each. Nail stuff now has a small container and everything can be found there and it is easier to manage. Dental products you get at the dentist.. i had a sm container full! I just tossed toothpaste from 2014. Ps the toothpaste can be used to clear cloudy car headlights. Happy De-hoarding everyone! 😊😁
Yes! I agree so much for the greeting cards. I've kept my grad cards and my wedding cards and just a few extra special sentimental cards and I'm good with it
Your pantry is so pretty now. Excellent job! Mine is a hoarders pantry that started with COVID. The store shelves were bare, so I panic bought things online and I also bought Ball jars to put the foods in but I got overwhelmed and just started not cooking at all. I just ended up buying frozen Amy's dinners and microwaving those. I know I will get back to cooking someday but it is amazing what can happen when the mind shuts down.
@@FancyThatwithCandice You are sweet and very inspiring. Yes, shutting down happens to everybody. I am talking myself through it. I know that my brain was afraid because the shelves were bare for so long. I think there are often "good reasons" we hoard. Saving money. Being prepared. Solving problems.
@@FancyThatwithCandice It seems to me that most of my clutter is because I have worked through my mind how to do something when I don't know how to. I just had a basement flood and I bought cleaning supplies, wet vac, mold control fogging, different mop heads because it was sewage backed up, main drain cleaners, etc. Last year, I had gotten rid of cleaning supplies and went "water only" and steam cleaning and UV light but suddenly I had black mold and sewage in my basement and I immediately hoarded.
@@FancyThatwithCandice The thing is, I bought a bleach sprayer and more than I needed of everything and have used it. But I won't need any of it ever again unless my main line backs up again. I need to go back to water-only cleaning.
I am a teacher as well. I have taught elementary, middle school, GED, and adult ESL. I have donated thousands of books and materials and I still feel I have too much.
I still love journals, but I have stopped buying alot of them. I have started using the ones I had stored, and use those for lists and Bible journaling. I don't actually journal anymore, because the only time I would journal is when I was angry or depressed, and I don't want people to read my old journals after I'm gone and think that was how I was, ya know? Cause it's not.
I just decluttered a kitchen cabinet last night, and apparently I’m a hoarder of birthday candles. But no more. I threw all the random numbers and individual used candles away.
You made me laugh re the costume jewellery! Lol. I did that with some earrings, huuuuuge hoops I never wear. I’d worn one pair. Keeping them and buying more just to sit on my dresser. I kept a pretty pair that make me happy to look at
I used to “collect” nail polish but always used the same 1 color. I got rid of all of them, and bought my 1 signature color. 🥳💅
Amazing!!!

haha YES!!!
Me too!!!
There's a great book called Stuffocation by James wallman you might like. I'm reading, yet to actually declutter on a big scale. Tiny steps!
Since I moved house after a divorce I decluttered nearly 30 garbage bags, no joke. 😳😳😳 I feel SO much better only living with what I NEED and LOVE!!

Lipsticks are my WEAKNESS!!!! My rule is if you use it/love it...KEEP IT!
Only 17?... um. 😄I love lipstick! It doesn’t take up much space!
Yes and they always make it so boring
@@ohthankg-dforthebourgeoisi9800 and they’re stored in an organizer, by shades... 🤣
I used to collect lip balms and hand cream, I’ve now used up most of them, feels more controlled and less cluttered.
Wow!! Good for you!
I have a small bowl that I jokingly call “I might have a problem.”
It’s lip balm.
Lol I have flavoured lip smackers that were popular in the ‘80’s (7up, banana, etc) I still have them away in a box
Why am I holding on to these?!?!
@@wishingb5859 I generally don't use lotions or perfume, I just go to the mall and spray up or try on a lotion. It satisfies that craving or whatever it is,
(I tell myself I'm looking for the perfect scent and I'll come back to it if I love it) but that took a lot of keeping track, and now I just do it for fun
That is so sweet!
I love her enthusiasm, just who I need to encourage me to declutter.
So happy you found this encouraging!
As a former teacher myself and on a journey to a more minimalistic lifestyle, your story just resonates with me! Just subscribed and I'm looking forward to binge watching more of your content. :)
Thanks for subbing!
I'm at the moment on my journey from a horder to a minimalist. It's not easy and it takes time but omg how rewarding the result is ❤💖 I have just decluttered my kitchen, now I'm working on my livingroom, then it's the bedroom and last but not least, my storage-unit 😊
You got this! Decluttering is life changing, isn't it?!
@@FancyThatwithCandice Oh yes, it is 😊❤💖 And an ongoing process 😊❤💖

hey girl i just minimized our home and wow o wow the space the freedom the calm my o my it feels awesome!!! I love minimalism, less to clean less to dust etc ..... ahhhhh
Good for you! I wish I could see your B4 & after pictures!
AMAZING!! I want to do a minimalist challenge once we get into the new house!
So smart! It makes more sense that way, because at the beginning you have more motivation, and you see more things at a glance 👍
I offer unused bathroom products to friends or donate them to shelters. You can also freecycle it!
Ahhhh I love this!
What is freecycling ?
Even used is fine. Friends usually don’t mind used hand lotion if it is the squeeze out kind (as opposed to dipping your finger in it).
So glad you can relate!!! Also, GOOD FOR YOU!!! You will never want to go back once you've gotten rid of things~
OMG!!! The journals!!!!🤣😂🤣
I think a lot of publications feel the pinch from many of us who ditched magazines for Internet inspiration.
Oh man. I could relate to so much. The cards, the costume jewelry I thought I would wear. I’ve recently got rid of a ton of cards, the makeup, and jewelry. I finally faced reality of what I was actually wearing and wanted to keep! And YAS, I remember your makeup videos. 🥰
so happy you can relate and I'm not the only one!!! Oh girl, I had SO MUCH MAKEUP!!
I love your positive energy and spirit it always transfers 💕
You're so sweet! Thank you!

Good luck! 💙
I’m so proud of you, Candice!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I hope you do a minimal makeup collection video!
Ah thank you so much!!! Eeeep!!! And I will put it on the calendar!
I could't agree more!!! This is a lifelong process for SURE!
What is it about lotions?! You gave me the inspiration to finally toss my bin of fragranced lotions I never use! I’ve organized and decluttered my bathroom closet twice now and I always keep the lotion bin! Why?! It’s getting tossed today! Thank you!
Whoooo!!!! That's going to feel so good!!!
Jewelry; friends came over for Christmas, brought me gifts. I didn't have anything for them! Then, I remembered I had tons of jewelry, NEW WITH TAGS. I wrapped earrings up and gave it to them! Haha...

It HURTS throwing away stuff we’ve never used and are never going to use. If it was a gift, I feel sad like I should’ve enjoyed that gift. If I bought it, I feel cheated!
I’ve been decluttering and a lot of this really resonated with me. I love your energy ♥️

I’m loving your videos. They inspire me to get up and declutter or clean up something! Great practical ideas and positive advice not criticize yourself and joyfully move forward. Lol, the jewelry ball.
I'm so happy these have helped motivate you!!!
Ha ha! I totally hear you! I used to have more eyeshadow palettes than 10 people could use up in a lifetime! So happy I let that go!
I have hoarded bath & body works lotions for years! It’s something I use at least twice a day but I still have way too much! Since covid, I haven’t shopped there and it’s really allowed me to go through quite a few bottles! I’m seeing it’s nice to use what you have before buying more.
I LOVE their scents!!! Which one is your favorite?
What about not wearing makeup, not wearing nail varnish.
I wouldn't throw away diaries or journals.
I sorted my pantry/storage cupboard out today thanks to you I managed to declutter so many jars and tubs lol and I actually managed to get stuff I had stored in a long ottamon (don’t ask! I really struggle for space) into my little storage cupboard. Thank u sooo much. I noted everything I have into my phones notes.
ahhh good for you!!!! Its feels AMAZING to declutter!!!

Love your channel! I'm working on decluttering and minimizing our home...but what a process. I'm giving myself a hoarder title for some things...love home decor and crafts...omg! Thanks Candace for your videos, I really enjoy them!
Ah good for you!! And I will ALWAYS love home decor!!!
I feel like this video has changed my life literally thank you. Your point about its costing more to keep things really hit home with me
isn't it odd that it's the hoarders that eventually become minimalist and love that label. im one too. man the stuff was just wow... so stressful. love your video. thanks for sharing!
OMG, cards and jewelry, that’s me and I haven’t even finished the video yet!!
Haha!!! Those are so hard to get a handle on!!
I know. Me too
Hard not to love your enthusiasm!
YES!!! So happy to hear you have made the binder and that you love it!!!
You own the items, they don’t own you. Recommend Marie Kondo’s book “The Magical Art of Tidying Up”. Good luck!
@@StrivingforSelfSufficiency Thank you!
Girl, I totally understand! Such a relief I am not the only one. My heart is happy.
Oh seriously, you are not alone!!!!
Way to go! Yep, some of those areas are a struggle for me too. Would love to declutter but finding the time, health and energy is extremely challenging! I, too, feel like I am suffocating in my own home!
It has taken me almost a year to get where I am today, and I still have so far to go!! Just chip away a little at a time and you'll get there!!!
Former makeup hoarder 🙋🏼♀️. I still love makeup, but I love and actually use what I have now and I feel like I enjoy my makeup routine now.
SAME!!!! I'm enjoying my makeup more now because I'm not always feeling guilty about it!!
Ugh 😥
Busy Becky I think it will be a weight off when you finally throw those out.
Take pictures of the damaged and do the most sentimental photos for restoration.
@@lalahdz9553 That's a great idea! 💕
I too still have cards I recvd as a child through my 20’s till now (54 years of cards)
They are so hard to get rid of!
Omgoodness! It's like you're describing me! 🤦♀️ (Hoarding cards, journals & lotions!).
It's nice to hear how a normal person got there sh*t in order, instead of wondering how the heck I'm gonna be like this perfect minimalist girl, so thanks!! 😁😁😁
Haha so happy this resonated with you!!! And really, there is no such thing as the perfect minimalist!!! :)
(One aunt always signs her cards with the same message.)
I'm retired so can release my office attire. I haven't yet. I'm still figuring out where I can send them. Some are rather nice and I think I can take to a consignment shop. It stymies me.
I don't wear makeup anymore. Special occasions I find my mascara has dried up.
Lol
I am so glad to have come across your channel !!!
Ah just having one can make a huge difference!!!
You bring up some GREAT points!!! Thanks for sharing!
That costume jewellery though! 🤩
Right?! I LOVED it for so long!
From prepping to minimalism …..I need to write a book!
Congratulations on reaching 60k subscribers.😊❤️🙏
Thank you so much 😀
In my experience people hold on to clothing is because they have too much and in the confusion they don't notice what they don't wear or why.
It does feel SO good when you've truly used something "up" !! Good for you!
Ah bet it feels so good to let go of the ones you're not using!! Good for you!
Love your minimalist style. Really nice. Life is so much better when it is simplified.
So true!

Me tooo, I realized after years that some cards meant nothing to me, from ppl I don't really have great memories of, so I decided to get rid of.
Just dumped make up today!!!! Down to 1/2. Yay
I love your videos very inspiring!
I have hoarded costume jewelry. One day I realized right after covid and I was working remotely from home. I would only reach for maybe ten pieces.
I decided to let it go.
Good for you!!!! And it's crazy that no matter how much we accumulate, we still gravitate towards our few favorites!
Make up and lotions, omg I had sooo much too as 3 friends gave me piles of it. Too busy to use it. I gave it away.
Awesome!!! It's so nice to give things away that you think others might be able to use!
It’s hard for me to let go of clothes, happy to watch your happy video
Tear it out the blank pages from your journal and use them for to-do list, reminders.
💕 best of luck on fitting back into your clothes! I'm on the same path, though I only have one baby ☺️
Lol...jars. Don't know what I plan on putting in them.
GREAT tips!!!! Thank you!!
Yes! I agree so much for the greeting cards. I've kept my grad cards and my wedding cards and just a few extra special sentimental cards and I'm good with it
Too many cards is just overwhelming!! So happy I kept just a few special ones!
I totally know what you mean about the mind shutting down! That does happen to me sometimes!
@@FancyThatwithCandice But I needed to come up with a yearly strategy to make sure the main line never gets plugged again.
I threw all the random numbers and individual used candles away.
yes!!! Feels so good to purge!
You made me laugh re the costume jewellery! Lol. I did that with some earrings, huuuuuge hoops I never wear. I’d worn one pair. Keeping them and buying more just to sit on my dresser. I kept a pretty pair that make me happy to look at
