I actually started a replay of Hollow Knight about a week ago and learned just how deep my trauma from the deepnest runs. I was still on guard after killing the first husk in the forgotten crossroads. I had to remind myself that husks only turn into zombie spiders in the deepnest. Even though I am able to handle the deepnest without being terrified now, the trauma from my first experience is still present.
I do not have arachanphobia. In fact, I actually find spiders cool creatures. However, the deepnest left me with some heavy scars that gave me mild arachnaphobia for a couple of months. I was able to work through it, but gosh that place is just so unnerving.
I am one of the same I didn't really mind spiders but deepnest is a different story it is very claustrophobic creepy ambiance and *CORPSE CREEPERS* has permanently scarred me I legit couldn't sleep that night and I don't kill anything there because of corpse creepers
Deepnest made me feel uneasy, but the area that really made me feel dread was the Ancient Waterways. I found the Flukes disgusting, and the first time I killed one, only to have it split into two halves that both screamed and attacked me, was a little bit traumatizing. I hated being in those sewers. I also give an honourable mention to the Entombed Husk. They're not very difficult to deal with, once you know what they are. But the first time I descended into a grave in the Resting Grounds, and I heard that "death rattle" sound it makes, it put me very on-edge.
When you look even further into the backstory of No Eyes, you can see that it is even more terrifying than you would have originally thought. Not to mention the creepy lullaby she sings, the corpses in the stone sanctuary, and the darkness of killing your own children.
I feel like someone who played undertale when they saw the mistakes in the soul sanctum got reminded of the true lab and now see the soul sanctum as the true lab of hollow knight
I think that deepnest itself should be somewhere at this top. It's literally scariest place in the game, with corpsecreepers, Nosk, Midwife's screamer and constantly tense atmosphere. Only scene with false villagers could tell you all you should know about this place. Don't. Trust. Anything. Everything wants to kill you. And it's terrifying.
To me I have a feeling that the bench trap at distant village is scary, because you have these ‘innocent’ looking villager bugs greeting you and claiming that they are ‘friends’ telling you to have a rest on the bench, once you sit on the bench there’s no turning back and the villager bugs walk up to you. And you just sit there and the knight is struggling to escape the stickiness of the bench. To make things worse when it all goes black, you hear a terrifying shriek and after that you end up being tangled in webs, shrouded in darkness. And to top it all off in the other web house there is a pile of dead bugs who fell victim to the bench trap and if you dream nail one of them you get two different dialogues… “Not friends…” and “They lied” indicating the bench trap…
rly great video! this game is so good omg. i would put the resting grounds crypt area on my personal list too; the sheer contrast of that area with the rest of the resting grounds makes it so unsettling.
I love hollow knight but there wasn't even atleast one area where i got scared, when i returned to deepnest i didn't want to explore there not because it was creepy but because i kept dying there
Yeah but people probably wouldn’t think to do that on their first playthrough and would have no other reason to assume that it was anything but a real grub. Plus they might not have the dream nail yet
Actually the shade lord might have happen because of the godly focus that godseekers provided the knight with. You know, the whole "Void given focus" thing if you complete every boss on radiant in the hall of gods. So godseekers were probably thrilled. It was, if I remember correctly, a god of gods. Also the parasites that possess your body after you're dead? Yeah, the most scary thing in the game. (And also I love abyss, I wish it could've been larger with more things to explore, oh how thrilling it would be)
I actually don’t find hollow knight scary at all (even though I’m a pretty big scaredy cat) cause the cartoony artstyle makes the enemy’s mysterious but not scary

if you like spiders, children of time is an interesting read that "humanises" them even to those who dislike them
@@SingingSealRiana can i make a comment on this?
Nice to know I am not the only one

@@MrBendy420 I still kill everything in deepnest, even after going through it so many times. I just deal with the consequences later.

And also be dead by her children, from the dream knights, she was totally the creepiest one
the scariest thing in HK is:
moss chargers.
i'm not joking i got a heart attack every time i saw one on my first playthrough haha-
You're not alone buddy😂
I feel like someone who played undertale when they saw the mistakes in the soul sanctum got reminded of the true lab and now see the soul sanctum as the true lab of hollow knight
I have now made that connection thanks to your comment

Even "normal" floor in the deepnest wants you dead.
@@galaxy-eyesgarchomp9478 Exactly. In few different ways, in addition...
@@OskariaFlame I've said this to people when describing the Deepnest. You don't come out of the Deepnest the same as when you went in the first time.

Godseeker actually likes the shade lord. She wants to worship gods, and calls the knight the god of gods in godseeker mode.

Fun fact: you can dreamnail every jar with grubs and if dialogue shows up it’s a grub but if nothing shows up it’s a mimic

I love your content and lists, though I was surprised that the mossy vagabonds weren't here though. Finding them infected genuinely made me shudder

Imagine if people made a horror game
