Girlll we don’t even care that you’ve just done one of these videos please never stop !! :D I love your book thrifting videos sm, secondhand bookstores aren’t really a thing where I‘m from so I just live vicariously through you 🤩
Books mentioned : * Animal Farm by George Orwell * A Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne * Night by Elie Wiesel * The Great Gadsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald * Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger * 1984 by George Orwell * Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
I am reading Fahrenheit 451 now, or most likely again. I think I read it in high school back in the mid seventies. Fantastic book! Highly recommend it!
I actually read the Great Gatsby on my own time, because it wasn't mandatory to read at my school, and I loved it. I completely understand why it's a classic and genuinely couldn't stop reading it. Definitely try it out.
I'm fairly convinced George Orwell could see the future. Between Animal Farm and 1984, it was like he was predicting what was going on today. That being said, I LOVED the Scarlet Letter and Night, but I will admit I don't know too many people who actually liked Scarlet Letter.
I’m so glad i discovered your booktube channel! I follow the beauty breakdown but haven’t watched a video in years since I stopped myself from being addicted to skincare and makeup! But I remember loving your videos so much so I’m really happy to discover you have an alternative channel! I’ve been binging your book videos the past days and I love them! Oh and hope you read The Great Gatsby! Just read it recently and i was surprised I liked it. Would love to hear your thoughts!
One of my favorite banned books is Kaffir Boy by Mark Mathabane! It's an autobiography & coming of age story of a black boy who grew up in apartheid South Africa. It was one of the assigned readings I had to do in HS that I remember truly enjoying. I highly recommend checking it out!
I am wanting to reread 1984…I’m just looking for a used copy so I would be interested in hearing your thoughts. I bought The Great Gatsby but I haven’t read it yet. Finally, Animal Farm was one that I was supposed to read, so that would be my third. However, I just read Night and I think it’s a really important book and if you haven’t read The Scarlet Letter, it’s definitely worth your time.
Hi there if you are ever looking for another bed for Buddy consider purchasing a baby mattress. The firm ones hold up incredibily well and you can also purchase the pillow topper for them to add padding. We bought one for our lab and it lasted forever. Love your videos!
I'm just starting Huckleberry Finn and just finished 1984. I completely agree that banning books is terrible as a general rule. I'm currently buying physical copies of a lot of them because of the resurgence of banning also on case they go out of print and because ebooks can be edited. Look forward to your follow up videos.
First of all: I absolutely love your outfit and bag in this video!! 😍 Second: I would love to hear your take on the Scarlet Letter and the Great Gatsby for sure!
I've read all these books, some of them several times, all but Night - but that one's on my TBR. I DNF'ed Scarlet Letter - as did half our book club. I just felt like it was dense and uninteresting. I think for pure enjoyment, go with The Great Gatsby. I liked Catcher in the Rye even though it took me awhile to appreciate the style of the main character's voice.
I love classic novels, and also am not into book banning, lol I’ve read all of these but most of them were in middle and high school so the details on a few are a bit foggy. George Orwell is a favorite though! I love dystopian novels and I feel like there was a pocket of classics that really thrived when it came to that genre, like George Orwell, A Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451. I don’t personally understand book banning on any of these, they discuss important ideas and are great for developing critical thinking when it comes to government, religion, power, morality, ect.
Great Gatsby and Night. If you really want to read the Scarlet Letter I say do it but be prepared to feel some righteous anger at some of the characters.
Hm, I haven't read A Scarlet Letter and Catcher in the Rye yet, but they're on my reading list! Would be cool to hear your take on them! On your list I have read The Great Gatsby and Night. Both were great. Gatsby had a charm to it I very much enjoyed at 16 (not sure if I still would now lol). And Night is a heavy, but I think necessary read to understand how life was at internment camps. But personally these days, I don't have the stomach to read WWII related material anymore. :) You've got a great selection!
I had to read Animal Farm for school around two years ago. I can see why it was banned, but honestly it's a great read. It really makes you stop and think about human society and there is some suspense. Also it's a quick read so I would for sure recommend it. :)
I don't have a top 3 but I would be interested in your thoughts about Catcher in the Rye and Animal Farm 😊 It's been more than a decade that I read them, so probably I will have to re-read them 😅
I love Catcher in the Rye!! I think its considered banned for minor vs institution, for the mention of a sex worker & the lead up to the assassination of John Lennon. I want to read 1984 & Fahrenheit 451 this year I've never picked them up.
I was wondering about Catcher In The Rye. I've read it a few times and gone back and forth about what I think of it, but I couldn't really remember anything that would make the loonies try to ban it. But I forgot that John Lennon connection.
@@FaeryLaume The guy who shot John Lennon was carrying a copy of the book at the time. I think he was actually sitting reading it at the scene when the police came. He said it was his manifesto.
I’m on a banned book hunt too! Night was a great book. Totally recommend it. The great gatsby would be nice to revisit again and hear a review on! Related banned book- Just finished the kite runner and oh boy don’t waste your time. I found it manipulative and trauma porn lol.
I’m new to your channel and for looking for good book tube channels. This may be a stupid question but who has banned these books? I’d love to hear your opinions on Animal Farm and 1984, 2 books I read over 30 years ago and they are books I’m thinking of re-reading! xxx💕
Looking at the collection overall, these books were banned for one of the following: 1. Politically charged themes in a Cold War era 2. Sex or violence in Conservative America (school reading) 3. Having connections to stalking Jodie Foster
I get what you're saying, but it doesn't really "Defeat the purpose" when the purpose is to keep them away from children. You're an adult with a car who can go to a bookstore who can safely have those books in your house. You're not a kid who can only get books from the school library, maybe even only reading them there. You're not the target audience.
This video is a bit confusing, you mention book-banning in recent times, like current year, yet bring up books that have been discussed in classrooms for ages. If you had ONE more modern book, at least, it would make some sort of sense. Unless of course the current book-banning efforts are on these, which is odd when there are literal channels on UA-cam promoting books with steamy scenes, books where robots eliminate the human race even though Booktube acts like its a place where LGBTQ people arc cherished (a big lie if they're promoting that book, because there is no way elminating humans as a species fixeds the problems those who identify that way face)...OH NEVERMIND I figured it out, it's because these books are written by dead white men, so it is IS a recent thing. Yep because if someone is a white male, the world hates them. That is the only way this video makes any sort of sense.

1984 is FANTASTIC. Literally talked about exactly the political and social state of the US right now. Such a great read
1984 is also a lot like North Korea if you know what’s happening over there

The great Gatsby is a fantastic novel! The audiobook is great
catcher in the rye wasn't bad. can be a stressful read but i think it has its great qualities and the underlying messages are worth the ponder

in my country George Orwell's books are the most easy to find, like there's all tipes of copies bc is public domain

@@macylightfoot I'm confused how there could be a John Lennon assassination reference in a book set in the 1940's? What did I miss?

Great vlog I love collecting banned books
My vote is for Animal Farm and Night!
I vote for 1984 because I recently got myself a copy as well. I got it because I wanted to make connections between 1984 and 1Q84.
I just finished Animal Farm, really good. Not a reasonable ban.
Super good! I really want to read it again~
Hi, thank you for your video. You could try John Wyndham The Chrysalids.
Ugh yes, love home goods 🥰
came to watch morgan, stayed to watch buddy 😂💞
Funny how none of these " Banners " ever want to ban the bibie. I mean its hardly a barrel of laughs.
Violates freedom of religion
@@alexisgraham7671 banning books in general is unconstitutional. But schools/library do have the right to not have certain books available.

Trying to get Nic Stones books not in schools 🙄 it would be so good to see something else other than standard basics
Please read Beloved by Toni Morrison such a good book and people are trying to get it banned

The Great Gatsby and The Catcher in the Rye genuinely changed me. I love them. I always cry near the ends.
