The comfort comes from feeling like someone is sitting next to you saying "Hey, I feel that way too sometimes. You're not alone."
Not trying to cheer you up, not offering solutions, just letting your know that your experience is not an isolated one.
Chester's authenticity and emotionality was especially suited for that. There are times when his voice awakens a feeling in you, and you then recognize that feeling as similar to what you feel on your own, and you feel this sense of connection, like you are understood.
This particular song is one that I really admire for it's ability to provide calm. If I listen to it in bed, I can almost always count on it to slow my heart. There's something really hypnotic about it.
Growing up with linkin park. Is like ren. He gave words and phrases to how I felt. It felt like someone understood me. I never felt worse when listening to linkin park. It release the billed up of emotions.
Agreed…it’s like it’s the key to opening the door and letting the emotions out
It’s sometimes hard to put your feelings into words and linkin Park does that, its like it validates how you feel and that you’re not on your own, and that then gives you some fire in your belly to keep going
💗
The inspiration behind the song was "being on the road away from loved ones." In about two hours, Mike Shinoda wrote the majority of this song inside Linkin Park's tour bus, because they were touring most of the year 2000. It was both written and recorded in only two days.
This is one of my favorite songs from them. I was dripping into Linkin Park when getting over a breakup in High School. Not depressed but just something that's relatable to listen to i guess. Lots of great songs from them especially the first few albums.
So happy you found linkin park they have soooooo much good music its incredible
Chester and Linkin Park were ground-breaking in their songs. They all had deep and sometimes dark meaning behind their lyrics. Their relatability for many of the lonely, sad, abused, depressed, lost or recovering souls was unreal. Chester's voice was hauntingly beautiful on so many of their songs and he was also explosive on others and these two combined made for one of the greatest group of music makers out there. If you watch many of their concerts even before Chester passed you could look at the audience and many were full-on crying from the depth and intensity.
This song was written by Mike Shinoda and it was written on their tour bus on the way to Nashville Tennessee to record it for the Kevin and Bean show Christmas cd called the Real Slim Santa. It was for Kroq radio station in Los Angeles CA.
This song is one of the softest Linkin Park songs and it is about being away from loved while on tour. At the time when this song was written Chester was the only one married and the others had girlfriends at home.
If you get the chance to watch the Live performance of this song. The live performance I recommend is My December live Projekt Revolution 2002. It is a very emotional performance and it really shows Chester's ability to be vulnerable on stage.
Always have to click on immediately for Linkin Park.❤❤❤
Its because when u're feeling like u're in the dark all alone. Lost and noway out nothing and no one to hold on to no way to find u're bearings. Listening to to music like this makes u feel. Not a alone. And just that touch of company in dark. Is a spark of hope. Ia touch of life. That life still exists and that little finger hold can be all u get and all u have to lift u're self up to have any faith the sun will come up in the morning
This is my favorite song of all time! To me the song is about having lost someone and just wishing you had someone to love to go back home with especially around the holidays!
Aww what an opportune time to wake up!🤩👋🥰
lol
for me due to listening them again and again for decades it became realisations which became learnings that turned to healings.
Dealing with stage 3 cancer and I can definitely say everyday feels like December everyday. Linkin park does help me deal with my issues, listening and singing along just takes some of the pain away. Wish you would react to disturbed more. The heavy music just blows me away and I feel like I can get all my emotions out. Have a great day Chris and hope to see some more reactions!
I hope your treatment is going well. How is everything going?
@larryshair I just got my results back from my Pet CT scan yesterday in Boston. My initial diagnosis was left groin had lymph nodes with cancer that spread from my back. Now the results show it has spread to the right side of my lower neck area and down by my left rib. I think the doctor might decide to do some advanced treatment or surgery. I really hope I'm ok in the long run but at least let be around long enough to see my daughter ( 12 ) graduate high school. I know you have hundreds if not thousands of requests for reaction songs but I would like to see you react to Disturbed's song stricken. I think you would enjoy the balance of vocals and heavy instruments. Thanks for checking on me and sorry for the long comment. Bless you bud 🙏

I love Winston’s December CD. This December song is beautiful and sad. ❤️
Indeed!
I know this isn't a song to react to, but I would highly recommend reacting to Astartes Parts 1-5. It is absolutely amazing, and everyone that i have seen that watch it for the first time gets blown away by it. Without spoiling anything it is someone who is in love with Warhammer 40k, and spent approximately 5 years making 5 videos that all together is about 12 minutes long. Again, i would highly highly recommend giving it a watch
You should check the Live versions of the songs(from concerts and shows), including this song's. LIVE VERSIONS ARE BETTER THAN THE STUDIO ONES !
Sorry I’m commenting again but I’ve just been thinking more about your question. When you’ve been through a lot of crap you get stuck in that place and it’s so hard to pull yourself out of it because it is down to you no one else can do it, and for me on my bad days LP songs keep me company and it tells me I’m not on my own and I’m not stupid for feeling this way, and that then makes me feel seen, and that in turn gives me a little courage to face another day. To keep fighting.
But I do understand the need to listen to other “happier” music to lift your mood. I think there needs to be a balance of both, that’s just my opinion though🙂
ThankYOU for letting us take this journey together with you! You’re a very special person❤️
I can totally see that angle. That's one thing that I've been drawn to with Eminem in his relatability. Fun stuff :)
I have a recommendation that’s quite opposite this, it always puts me in a good mood so I listen to it everyday on the way to work, loved it 25 years ago and still to this day, The Cult She sells sanctuary
I never noticed those whispered words before!
dark songs and lryics have always been more of a motivation for myself bc when your going through things in life sometimes hearing someone that can relate you don't feel alone and it gives a hope, a light bc if this person made it through the dark tunnel into the light I knew I could as well. It's kinda like when you talk to someone you never met before and your sharing life experiences or beliefs and you almost build a security knowing your not the only one., idk if you get what I'm saying but no depressing music isn't depressing for me, it's like talking to a life long friend sharing stories, finding hope knowing it's life. Music is my therapy session not the medical field. Another thing it's noe dark or depressing music it's real life music.
Watch Oliver Anthony - Rich men north of Richmond. I think you will love this one.
Linkin park is my favorite band ❤️ there is sooooo many good songs, they even released and unreleased track after chesters passing recently called "lost"
I think this is about separating yourself from your family and maybe the parents/loved passing away and never being able to go home again in a meaningful way
Hi Chris, anything Linkin Park is right up there for me! Thanks for the reaction. Hope you are happy and well.
You too Rich! Hope life is treating you well!
Please Please do a reaction to their hip hop group called Fort Minor. I suggest " Cigarettes" or "remember the name " or "where'd you go"
I've never heard this one before but I know couple of their songs. You already know my story but I'm gonna write this comment anyway...
I loved to listen to songs like that back when I just wanted to kill myself. It kinda comforted me that I'm not the only one dealing with those demons. Mac, Juice, Chester and many more were great examples that it's not worth to try. I mean... they had "everything"... and still were fighting with depression. I wanted to end it so bad but I didn't have enough balls to do that last step.
And then I met you... and as you know my life has changed drastically since then. 99% of my fears and traumas are gone thanks to You and Patti and I'm doing my best to push forward and face my last and biggest trauma one day. You know what I'm talking about...
I still have my "depressed playlist" saved but I'm avoiding listening to it now. It's too easy for me to fall back into the pit I was in. I want to focus on pushing forward and striking the iron while it's hot... not on feeling sorry for myself and my past.
And... I promised to make you proud of me one day, Papa Chris! 😊 I can't let you down 😉
Loved the reaction as always! 😊

As far as I am aware they wrote this song when they were on the road touring constantly. It's about How lonely it is on the road not having family to go home to each night. Missing home.
We live in a day and age where everyone is terrified of "trigger words". Honestly, people who are in really dark places aren't not any more negatively affected by a random word.
They have feelings, bad ones, hard to face sometimes or even understand, and there's something in music (in general, this is scientific) that tugs at certain emotions in us.
It's like that idea of "sometimes you really need to cry it out". Sometimes you just need to dive into the feelings to process them, to vent and deal with them. And LP's music gives you an escape to that. And somehow, it also helps see a ray of sunshine at the end of the tunnel sometimes, because of have sailed through that rough sea of angst, sadness, depression or whatever it may be the case. You feel empathy from and for Chester in his voice. You feel understood and you can relate to him.
Please react to some more songs, and also check out Nightwish.
Hmmm... I got nothin, I'm not a fan of Linkin Park but thought I'd give this one a shot. Nope. I can absolutely appreciate the talent the problem is me.
This reminded me that Bugzy Malone also has a song called December. One of my favorites of his.
One More Light is such a great song you should do
I listen to depressing music when depressed to help get it out everyone needs a good cry every once and awhile ..not good to let it bottle up
Love your reactions! You should try and give Jelly Roll a try. "Jelly Roll - Save me" and "Need a favor". Amazing voice and amazing stories!
You should react Papercut/With You/Points Of Authority.. the best from them
I wanted to say something in your previous video when you said it's not the best music to listen to when we're depressed. But I forgot and I'm happy that some of your viewers disagree lol
The other comments have explained really well why when were at our worst, LP is a comfort music to keep us sane and strong. I will acknowledge that this is not for everyone. Some people might feel worse after hearing the songs and it's a valid feeling, but I will argue that they are taking the song meaning as ONLY negative and ONLY wallowing.
And yes, you've been listening to the old albums that mostly are just the down feeling. But If you pay attention to the lyrics, in the same song, some actually talk about fighting back and being strong
I just wanna add why I think LP helped when I was younger and more depressed. When Chester died, the first thing that came up in my head was "If someone like Chester that was so loved, so succesful, so talented, and all around such a beautiful person still ended up losing. Then what's my odds?". It's still difficult not to think that way after years of his passing but the first year? Wheew. And I'm telling you this because I didnt realize that their/his ability to write how they feel and how they struggle but kept on fighting was a mantra. A fuel for keep on fighting too because so many of us are feeling the same. And if other people can fight it, then I can too.
Thanks for asking a follow up 😁 it's cool that you always wanna learn more about the music you're listening ti
Shoulder to shoulder my friend 💪🏼🤗
@@Sandy_justme 🫡 we're strong. Your comment explain our feelings really well btw. Thank you
@@takewhataway ❤️ I liked what you said about LP helping to keep us sane and strong, so Thankyou too!😊
Thanks so much for the insight! Love this stuff! ❤️❤️
People deal differently with struggles and grief. I myself would find it immensely off-putting to hear a party song at a funeral. But there are, depending on the culture, funeral celebrations too with colourful dresses. Chester was a childhood abuse victim, he had deep mental wounds that he comforted with his songs, and so did he comfort people like me with abusive parents. The anger in his songs, and the comfort in his voice, occasionally hope in his texts, helped to relate and live through emotions you weren't allowed to feel.
Sorry to use this reaction but Lucy has released another song from her concert
and I or and die, I heard him say and die
Listen to what I done Little more positive messages
It's 'My December', by the way, you might want to change the title.
Can u react song SO FAR AWAY from AVENGED SEVENFOLD,this song so meanin' to me for those who lost of their luv one
Eem, it helped, a lot, but after Chester giving up, theres no point.
man you gotta react to 2pac again and i think you have to see the aggresive 2pac and the most brutal diss track of all time is 2pac hit 'em up the backstory is this: he is friends with biggie smalls (The Noturious B.I.G) and the whole label called "Bad Boy" and he was invited to record a song together while he was going to the elevator to the studio he was robbed and shot 5 times in 1993 and at the same time he had a rape case and he was sentenced to i dont know how many years but while 2pac is in prison biggie releases "Who Shot Ya" by the name you probably know why it had rumours about biggie setting him up so 2pac believed that and also while 2pac was in prison suge knight (the owner of the label called "deathrow records") he wanted to bail out 2pac for 1,7 million dollars in return 2pac have to record 3 albums and the first song to be ever released is "california love" produced by dr. dre (yes dr dre,2pac and snoop dog are in the same label) and 2pac releases hit em up as a single love the reactions❤ (hit em up dirty with A VIDEO i know you preffer it ua-cam.com/video/41qC3w3UUkU/v-deo.htmlsi=Bfz16_J0LnihA6lk)
Thanks so much!
