Warning: this will be a long-ass post. So do with that info what you will and proceed with caution. To Siera and everyone else who didn't know, Cat's victory is unique and more impressive even to us Filipinos because of the incredible, borderline obsessive-compulsive preparation behind it. Please read on and just be more amazed of this lovely woman: 1. She was the captain of the ship. She deviated from the expected tradition of picking between the 2 premiere pageant training/coaching groups in the country and opted to create her own team instead, handpicking the people who she was most comfortable working with (who did it out of love for free out of sheer passion). 2. Cat and her team approached the competition like a star athlete would prepare for the biggest game of his life. Right after she won the top title at Binibining Pilipinas last March, she wasted no time and started strategizing from there, telling Mak Tumang that she wanted her final gown to be red in honor of her mother's dream when she was 13 years old: Cat winning Miss Universe in a red gown. With the color decided, and with Cat's mom from Albay, where the most perfect cone-shaped volcano (one of the most active in the world) is located, they drew inspiration from the lava that flowed out of it. They made 5 other gowns specifically for her to select from, all drawing inspiration from Filipino culture, including the Ibong Adarna gown which also pays homage to the Mikimoto crown. 3. Like her team has said during interviews, every detail of the performance and preparation was a deliberate choice, down to the smallest details - even the lipstick shades she used were debated upon. The styling team consisted of at least 6 people who bounced ideas off of each other and helped secure native-made garments from various designers all over the country that showcased Philippine culture from which they mixed and matched and curated 50 sets of outfits. They took pics of each one and packed them with the clothes to serve as Cat's guide. As they were not given a specific itinerary of events for the pageant, they packed everything in and opted to over-prepare (7 huge suitcases + 2 smaller ones) to allow Cat options. She was also trained to do her own makeup and hairstyle (she did everything herself during the preliminary and final competitions), and the hairstylists and make-up artists would send her videos of how to execute their ideas well. Cat's arrival outfit was Thai-inspired to send a message: she was ready to welcome the foreign culture that was ready to embrace her. 4. As no detail of this preparation was accidental, and also in response to criticisms to previous representatives donning outfits that were made by foreign designers, Cat's entire journey was aimed at showcasing the best the Philippines had to offer to be expressed fashion-wise, and so her national costume was no exception. Named LuzViMinda from the 3 major island groups of the country, the backdress was inspired by the Christmas parol which is from Luzon (a nod to the Philippines having the longest and most colorful celebration of the holiday in the world); the bodysuit from Visayas, inspired by warrior body tattooes where every detail has meaning; and the hair accessories and other accessories and details features Mindanao beading and the beloved T'nalak fabric. Leading up to the competition, Cat released 3 videos to explain the inspiration for her costume, hoping to educate everyone and hype up the eventual reveal. Her poses and gestures during the performance were choreographed to emulate how some women in the country greeted their guests in the past. She did her research and actually went to the places she drew her inspiration from. The parol was supposed to light up, but unfortunately failed to. They practiced moving the backdress on just about every flooring and surface except a carpeted floor, which happened to be the case with the national costume competition venue. Still, she did her best and persevered. 5. Catriona's famed and now iconic lava walk was inspired by the movement of lava, where it would flow slowly and smoothly and then suddenly move to another direction. Hoping to make it different from the expected standard runway struts, it also incorporates elements of jazz. Practicing her slo-mo turn, Catriona, who has scoliosis, would initially end up crying in pain in her attempts to do it. But she worked through it and perfected it out of sheer determination, practicing it even during times that she wasn't feeling well (which she didn't tell her trainer). 6. Catriona co-designed her famous ear cuff that features the 3 stars and 4 out of the 8 rays of the sun present in the Philippine flag. She first did it for Binibining Pilipinas, and co-created another version for the Miss Universe coronation night. She also co-designed the drop earrings she wore during the preliminary competition, which also featured the stars and the sun. 7. Even before her pageant days, Catriona has been working with Young Focus, a charitable organization that helps children in impoverished areas in Manila. That's why answering her questions came easy, because she has lived what she said. In addition to her intellect and wit, she worked with coaches and famous interviewers to further improve her answering skills. 8. Catriona also approached the competition with a politician's mindset. She knew that even there were 94 women, she was aware that she was only competing with 15-20 candidates. She made a conscious decision to get all the design and other technical preparation elements out of the way early on and reserve the last few months to relax and focus on taking care of herself to put her in the right mindset. She knew how pacing was key; she controlled her energy, making sure she gave just enough to stand out to avoid burning out too soon. She knew that by the second week of the competition, most girls would already start to crack, and she understood when it was the perfect time to peak and show off. And she did all of this while being genuinely friendly and as fun and wacky as possible, as that is how she is in real life. I hope you learned much from this, and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did writing it. P.S. Siera, you have got to be the most beautiful pregnant woman I have even seen, period. The baby's coming soon and God bless you and your family through this special stage in your life.

maritza jiron -Fuck off.We all know she is the best from the competition. It’s given that the candidates are beautiful but Catriona’s level of intelligence compared to the other candidates are way higher.Stay bitter.😂
Each and every step that Catriona did towards her journey to the Miss Universe crown is well thought of, evident of her and her group's passion to get the 4th crown for her beloved country. When she arrived Thailand, she was wearing a Thai inspired attire, her "Ode" and respect to the host country, Thailand. I was not surprised that she was welcomed by the locals and Filipinos residing in Thailand with so much excitement and warmth. If there's a sector among pageant fans saying that Filipinos are hyping her...well, all I can say is she deserves the hype, and the fact is, she delivered what was expected of a deserving Miss Universe.

Iris 08 Thank you. YES! Absolutely that’s why I am always looking forward for the all reviews and vlogs of Miss Siera cause she know this better than anyone cause shes been there herself. ;)
Another question what do you look for when it comes to determining your favorites and does coming from a favored country gives you a pass ahead of countries that never make to get in top 5?Does a contestant that has prior winning titles get looked at less to be a winner over contestants that could have more time to prepare for the Miss Universe pageant? Would you think that it's fair to have all the girls be dressed by the same designer and the designer not be told which contestant would be wearing what dress until it's time to fit the girl in it for the top 20 down to the top 3 at which the final question and final look would be a dress that their own country designer should have made for them so that would level the playing field. It just seemed to me watching this year's MU it was a little of a sabatoge and one sided favoritism based on the selection of top 20 down to the final where it was clear who the winner was once the top 10 was selected based on outfits questioning and facial expressions on contestants. Then looking at the score cards shown for the top 10 didn't make sense based on what I saw throughout the two weeks from arrival to prelims. I watched every part of it from start to finish and that was staying awake until for the 12hr difference. Example if the gala started at 7pm Friday Thailand time I was awake at 7am Friday watching if they were doing group photos at 11am Saturday I was awake at 11pm Friday night watching so I have not been able to wrap my head around what happened so maybe you can explain it to me or to most of us that have some idea of the pageants. I will not put any specific contestant because they all were beautiful and smart but just wondering how much of politics play in the decision of who advances if any at all. It's not to put the women down because it's the judges and behind the scenes to show us what should be scene without edits and only showing us what they want us to see.
Thank you madam for being a very supportive to Miss Philippines Catriona Gray,I am not trying to be bias, however, she really stood out from all the rest.,In addition, all those candidates are beautiful regardless of their nationality.,,God bless them all(Houston Texas)
@maritza jiron who were they? She slayed behind closed door interview, she nailed al her Q&A. She introduced the lava walk with slow-mo turn..her lava gown was amazing. What else could we ask for? Plus she can communicate well with conviction and shes a good representation to the miss universe organization. What could u ask for? Miss U org needs an effective representation of their organization!

Siera has been so supportive of Catriona. She also said in her previous vlog that her MU experience in the Philippines was one of a kind (sort of). Lots of love 💖
As expected while watching miss universe 2018, catriona gray nailed every performance she had made. So proud to be a Filipino! Mabuhay Philippines!🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
She's supposed to carry that thing at her back just like a backpack during national costume but she has problem like scoliosis so it end dragging it looks awkward but she carry it with grace and poised,
Love how you detailed your reaction on this.. entirely different from other reactions i've watched so far. Maybe because you've been in that kind of pageant yourself. 😘😘😘😘 Happy Holidays!
Thank you for all the love. I am a Filipino and when you were competing.. I was rooting for you(sorry Philippines). YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL THEN and you are beautiful now. Keep the positivity and thank you again :)

Oh Siera. Thank you for giving sharing, commenting highlights of the concluded Miss Universe2018 pageant. I just wanna point out also that the Miss Universe Organization observes you the moment you arrive at the hotel you are gonna stay at. You are observed how you interact, how you greet each other, etc... from the outings, activities you are being watched by chaperones & staff. Then comes the preliminary competition outfits, etc. Catriona Gray was prepared throughout the Miss Universe Pageant 2018.in Bangkok Thailand. Congratulations to Catriona Elisa Gray for winning Miss Universe 2018 & congratulations to Catriona Gray's team as well. I salute Catriona Gray's team & designer Mak Tumang.& for "lava walk" Carlos Buendia,Jr.& for shoes JoJo Bragais, coach for Q & A Nicole Cordoves, the list goes on & on forever. Job Well Done Guys, & Gals.etc. Bravo Catriona Gray Miss Universe 2018. Thank you Siera.
great highlights :) recently she had a feature in the Philippines and her slow mo walk is called the lava walk....her coach was inspired by the movement of lava.....slow then fast....or fast then slow. I really love her ear cuffs....its a stand out...it represents the rays of the sun from the flag. all of it got meaning and its super patriotic. she and her team has done a super job on it. they really thought about it and work hard. she truly deserves it and was so prepared :)

We love Catriona & we are really proud of her taking us filipinos to her fight & win the Miss Universe. Thank you for supporting her & giving a good review.
I totally agree w/ your statement in regards to the last q&a. I remember during Miss Universe 2012, Miss Philippines Janine Tugonon nailed the q&a but ended up as a 1st Runner to Olivia Culpo. Anyhow, Thank you so much this video. Happy Holiday’s and God bless queen!
@@adonissegundo5225 well there's a reason why a final look is part of the pageant. The 2012 judges saw that Olivia is more capable of being the MU, hence she won.
@@leolei9014 Is there a final look during 2012 MU? I think they just answered a question and then next they announced the winner. It's a Top 5 q and a then winner.
@Ga190fbrj Hekvjd Janine won over Olivia in all categories. Janine got the better Swimsuit walk, better Evening gown walk, and so much beter q and a. Janine has the model look while Olivia got the commercial look. What Olivia has over Janine is the factor of USA having a crisis at that time and the fact that Trump still owns MUO at that time and we saw so many questionable winners under that era. I like the IMG era more. It consistently producing quality winners.
Thanks Sierra for an excellent review of Catriona's performance. It is also worthy to note that both the Ibong Adarna (mythical bird) and Catriona have enchanting voices. Catriona being a professional singer, and she uses her talent in singing to raise funds for her worthy charitable projects. With focus on helping children get access to good education. As with her gown inspired by the Mayon Volcano....is known for its perfect cone, and is located in her home town Albay.

Hearing those words from you make this review authentic. Yes, I strongly agree on Miss Philippines’ win - a truly deserving queen in the universe this year.
one of Cat's interviews, she admitted that she was also worried a little after the top 5 q&a. like how's the judges gonna pick the top 3. coz honestly they were really the best & tough 5 of MU. Anybody, deserves the crown but, of course, Cat's overall performance made her the leading candidate.
Siera you are unbelievably amazing. Thanks for your remarkable interest in our candidate. All these have stood out till the end. Hope you can come to the Philippines.

What made me so happy is seeing Cat finally get what she wanted-not the title or crown but the opportunity to help more people. As an only child from an Australian father and filipina mother she is sheltered, well-off and privileged but at 16 she decided to go on her own. She became a model, acquired outdoor recreation certificate and a masters in music theory in Berkeley and then she volunteered for NGO’s where she encountered the Young Focus and then she decided to join pageants. She sold her paintings and organized benefit concerts before she got on a plane to Washington for Miss World. She never stopped after losing Miss World and now she even released a song for Young Focus to which the profit will go directly to Young Focus to help them in educating the children. This woman is all about helping when she could have been a supermodel which she technically is in the Philippines because she had done TV, runway and print ad appearances. That is why so many filipinos love her, not because she is miss philippines universe or miss universe, it’s because she is genuinely kind and it’s not for show. Thank you for appreciating her Sierra:)
To be honest I was little worried after swimsuit competition because South Africa, Vietnam and Venezuela step up their game but I still believe Philippines will make it but then when she walked wearing that colorful red with black and yellow sparkles during the evening gown competition, she really stand out among the rest, most of the gowns are all the same this year. Top 5 Q and A all of them somehow answered the question but it wasn't very impressive. It was ok but they could have made it even better. South Africa for me was the best among the ladies but then after they answered top 3 Q and A, that's where I knew Philippines sealed the deal.
@@tankritkiddo8137 I didn't say she didn't nail her swimsuit walk during finals because it was beautiful and very confident and her slow mo walk was very popular but I was shocked with South Africa, Venezuela and Vietnam because they all stepped up their game in the finals

Wow very detailed review of the performance. First reading the title, I was like, why? It must have been the fans from the Philippines 🇵🇭 requested it, and I was right. But then, I think among others who did the review of the full performance, this has been the most detailed review. Even read the designer’s wordings for the gowns’ inspirations. Sweet!
Eventhough Tamaryn want to win Miss Universe, she knew that Catriona will win. You can see the reactions of Tamaryn as Catriona being called during top 5 and top 3 announcement.
Thank you so much for reviewing her performance and also for trying to pronounce some Filipino words like "Daragang Magayon". We really appreciate it when foreigners try to pronounce or say some words in Filipino. Don't worry if it's correct or not, just hearing you made us happy.
One good thing about you, aside from honest review and soothing voice, you always take time to read comments and appreciate your supporters/followers. Hope you soon be a judge at Miss Universe
I love your objective and honest review on Catriona's Ms Universe performance. You were right about the NatCos...although I appreciate the stories and its historical value behind it plus of course her eagerness to narrate in costume form the Philippines' heritage, seeing her battling to carry it made her performance in NatCos mediocre. And yes too, despite her raving performance in the Prelims, her answer to the question during the top 5, for me lacks the conviction to the issue, which is present to almost all answers to questions thrown to her. I guess, she just played it too safe on that one, which explains her very brief answer and just used an example to allow the audience to ponder on her answer. Love you for being honest Ms. Sierra...

We were in the VIP row and we knew she gonna take home the crown! Thank you for your amazing review...
she was called. was anyone surprised? i dont think so! hahahaha love it
Yes i love it.. The whole review vid this statement i loved
Even in the announcement of the winner, I wasn't surprised. 😂 She deserves it!
maritza jiron -Fuck off.We all know she is the best from the competition. It’s given that the candidates are beautiful but Catriona’s level of intelligence compared to the other candidates are way higher.Stay bitter.😂
maritza jiron how about Miss World 2016? How much it cost for ugly stephany? 😂😂😂
I’m still in tears when Cat announced as Miss Universe 2018. Mabuhay Pilipinas. 🇵🇭🇵🇭
Thank you so much Siera for the beautiful words for our ms universe.

These topics are good. I like #7. We all know not everyone will become friendly since the MU is still a competition after all.
Claude Holdren another question would be about her experience with Donald Trump as the owner of the pageant!
@@claudeholdren979 official scores are not released.
Thank you madam for being a very supportive to Miss Philippines Catriona Gray,I am not trying to be bias, however, she really stood out from all the rest.,In addition, all those candidates are beautiful regardless of their nationality.,,God bless them all(Houston Texas)
@maritza jiron 😂😂😂 you're funny. God bless you
@maritza jiron who were they? She slayed behind closed door interview, she nailed al her Q&A. She introduced the lava walk with slow-mo turn..her lava gown was amazing. What else could we ask for? Plus she can communicate well with conviction and shes a good representation to the miss universe organization. What could u ask for? Miss U org needs an effective representation of their organization!
@maritza jiron is South Africa a weak competitor? Lol maybe you're from Mexico or Columbia who deserves the "El Tocuyo" award.
Thank you for loving our Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray Miss Philippines. I know your reviews about the competition is not biased but BALANCE and FAIR to all contestants.
SALAMAT for featuring Catriona Gray again.
Merry xmas & Happy New Year from all us here in the Philippines. We love you.
GOD Bless on your next angel to come. May your baby be as healthy as you and as beautiful as you inside out 😘😍❤
Trivia: She’s the one who designed the ear cuffs she wore, and it symbolizes the Philippine Flag. 🇵🇭 💙
Hoping that the Miss Universe Organization would pick or invite you as a official judge and thats pretty cool❤️
She's supposed to carry that thing at her back just like a backpack during national costume but she has problem like scoliosis so it end dragging it looks awkward but she carry it with grace and poised,
Thanks a lot for always doing catrionas winning moment and we filipino appreciate it..we love u.
Year soon your baby girl will be miss universe contestant
there is no surprise on that, for sure
Yeah.
Let's pray that Lily will win someday. It's not always the Philippines that should win, someday that baby girl should become a Miss Universe. ♥️
Lily will win MU....
What a performance!
Gorgeous! The best Miss Universe from the Philippines indeed!
Love how you detailed your reaction on this.. entirely different from other reactions i've watched so far. Maybe because you've been in that kind of pageant yourself. 😘😘😘😘 Happy Holidays!
Thank you!!
What time?
Thank you for all the love. I am a Filipino and when you were competing.. I was rooting for you(sorry Philippines). YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL THEN and you are beautiful now. Keep the positivity and thank you again :)
Most Miss Universe winners are forgettable after a moment . But Catriona is ICONIC.
I hope to see you as a judge this coming Miss
Philippines beauty pageant. Filipinos are starting to love you because of your kind words about Catriona. Please visit the Philippines soon or after you give birth.
Yes! Is the pageant in March?
i have loved you during your time at miss universe and i even love you more now. God bless you and your family.
You had been supporting her even before she won Bb. Pilipinas 😊❤️❤️❤️ I always see your comments on her IG even when Bb. Pilipinas had just started. Love you Siera
Awww.. you’re such a nice person, miss Sierra! I’m more proud to be a Filipino and more proud to live here in Canada too!!! I love you so much!!!!
Thank you Siera.
great highlights :)
recently she had a feature in the Philippines and her slow mo walk is called the lava walk....her coach was inspired by the movement of lava.....slow then fast....or fast then slow.
I really love her ear cuffs....its a stand out...it represents the rays of the sun from the flag.
all of it got meaning and its super patriotic. she and her team has done a super job on it. they really thought about it and work hard. she truly deserves it and was so prepared :)
Mabuhay ka Ms. Sierra! Thank you for always cheering our very own Catriona Gray 😍 You are always welcome here in the Philippines ❤️ Maligayang Pasko (Merry Christmas)!
You never fail to amaze us Siera Bearchell and I'm so honored to have your insights every now and then. God bless your beautiful heart and see you back here in the Philippines as we aim for a back to back win. Cheers!
we always love you siera .. thank u for the reaction
from philippines.
Thank you so much for this awesome cover of our new Miss Universe 2018, ma'am Sierra, from the bottom of my heart. God bless and more power to you!
I was actually thinking of that when I was making that comment in my video!!
No offense, but olivia's answer was just so so. I meeeaan...anyway past is past. Haha.
Pretty lady with a beautiful child. Always loved your insights. Much love from the Philippines!
Thank you!!
Catriona gray she's totally packages. Wow thank you for reaction to cat.104m filipinos behind back to cat during for her performance. She's incredible a lot...thnks sierra.. mabuhy from Philippines. .
I'm from South Africa but miss Philippines definitely did deserve the crown
And we hope you can be one of the judges for Binibining Pilipinas 2019 (Miss Philippines 2019) we love to see you😊😍
Siera, I really love all your videos so authentic without commending others opinion. We would love to see you as judge next year Binibining Pilipinas. 😊
I wish you'll be able to talk Catriona,Pia, and other title holders of the Philippines through zoom. I've always watched your vlogs. I'm from the Philippines🥰 Mabuhay!😍
You're so well spoken omg
haha thank you!!!
I always look forward to ur videos. U just made my day. Thanks so much! 😘😘😘
Aw thank you!!!
Im still watching this over and over and over raised to the power of 1 million.
Love Ms. Siera from the Philippines! 😻

React to Catriona Gray full performance of BB. Pilipinas where she won the title Miss Universe Philippines
She's the NAILER. LEAVING SCHOOL AND FIRAT THING ON MY MIND IS MISS UNIVERSE. OMG CATRIONA GAVE ME UNEXPECTED
Ms. Siera FYI, Catriona had Scoliosis, but that did not stop her from winning Ms. Universe 😊😊
I AM A FILIPINO, AND I'm very VERY proudddd of our beauty queens.
Mabuhay Miss Siera ❤
I’m so happy you’re very active on yotube! I couldn’t get enough of you at universe!! 👑
Awwe!😍 thank you for the loved and support for the PHILIPPINES 🇵🇭
#WEloveYou😍
From:🇵🇭
To be honest I was little worried after swimsuit competition because South Africa, Vietnam and Venezuela step up their game but I still believe Philippines will make it but then when she walked wearing that colorful red with black and yellow sparkles during the evening gown competition, she really stand out among the rest, most of the gowns are all the same this year. Top 5 Q and A all of them somehow answered the question but it wasn't very impressive. It was ok but they could have made it even better. South Africa for me was the best among the ladies but then after they answered top 3 Q and A, that's where I knew Philippines sealed the deal.
are you kidding? she walked like a victoria secret model at the swimsuit prelims and finals plus her signature slo-mo twirl. c'mon.
@@tankritkiddo8137 I didn't say she didn't nail her swimsuit walk during finals because it was beautiful and very confident and her slow mo walk was very popular but I was shocked with South Africa, Venezuela and Vietnam because they all stepped up their game in the finals
Kenn Calli Miss South Africa's walk was a little stiff. Miss Venezuela's was generic.
i think she gave the safest answer to top 5 q n a. She was that smart! and those judges would have might their own opinion about..
Siera.. pls be one of the judges on this coming binibing pilipinas 2019... your insight, advices and experience can help the country defend the crown in MU!!! Can we rally in this people???? Merry Christmas to you and your family!!!
I wish!!!! Not sure how to make that happen!!
you are right sierra..happy holiday😊
You are the coolest person to ever review the performance of Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Elisa Magnayon Gray. I so love the way you talk about every details and how you base it your it all from factual information and not just a sway of your emotions because you have the likings for Filipinos but you are a fair judge. I am looking forward to one day you'll visit us back and you'll do a show for us here. Thank you Ms. Canada 2017 Siera Bearchell. Cheers and Mabuhay!
You are so sweet. Thank you so much. I try to be as real and honest as possible in all of my videos!
3:00 "I mean, was anyone surprised? I don't think so." HAHAHAHAHA, Brilliant!
Sweet!
Love this.. much love from Dubai😘
great commentary from Siera. She is always on point. Greetings from Chicago!
Beautifully done! The best MU I have ever seen and heard in history. The sincerity and patriotism was superb!
Thanks for the good stuff as usual i like your channel. It's the only one of its kind I've subscribed to ❤️
One good thing about you, aside from honest review and soothing voice, you always take time to read comments and appreciate your supporters/followers.
Sierra...
Thanks Ms. #Siera for the kind words & support to our Ms. Universe 2018.
Hope you'll be invited to judge in selecting our next batch of queens.
💓💗💖 from PH🇵🇭
Love love love your Blog Sierra Gday from Sydney Australia, BTW Cat is half Aussie that made her more exciting!
NOTE: Half Aussie by Nationality. She doesn't have that Aussie accent, because she was a Half Filipino and Half Scottish by Ethnicity.
Her father is half Scottish and half aussie though.
Ron Esma
1/8 aussie you mean
@@dansoy2529! No She's half Aussie. Born in Cairns Queensland and Mom is Filo. Australians are mostly British and Irish descent. So basically she's an Aussie. Scottish are British Mate! But don't worry Aussie's don't really care much about this competition. We're just happy that she won and that's about it! No Big deal!
His dad is half aussie and half Scottish. Thats it.
Thanks for the upload love Catriona since day 1. From LA😍👌🏼
Quick question... obviously winning the crown opens a lot of doors but what about the top 5 candidates, do you know how they do afterwards???
amigasyrizos PR
As of now they are signing project after project
Sh
She got a very difficult question in top 5 which is very sensitive to answer here in our country, but still she delivers well the small point of her answer. Thanks Ms. Sierra 😍
