This beautiful and very intelligent young lady is born in Australia to a Scots father and Filipino mother, Catriona's looks are very much like her Scots grandmother. She was educated at a very expensive private Anglican college in Cairns Queensland. Her Father is a very good man and respected here in Cairns.
Catriona's mother is a lovely lady and this is where she gets her bubbly personality and extremely funny and kind characteristics. Catriona's accent is that of a cultured educated Australian she was coached to sound filipino english speaker.
Miss Universe is going to have a hard time looking for her successor. She's beautiful, eloquent, and hella marketable!

My neighbor is a Filipino family, me and their Taytay have a beer and chill after work the kids are very respectful and helpful they call me Uncle Tee, I always get a dish of food every time they have a party, which is often. lol. I love them. Our neighborhood is much better with them around. My mailman, the nurse who took care of my mother and many other nurses and great caring teachers in Maryland are Filipinos. ALL REAL FRIENDLY, LOVING AND HAPPY PEOPLE . so you see, I know what I'm talking about.

I'm amazed at how eloquent, spontaneous and real Catriona handles all the questions. I have watched a few of her interviews and you can throw any question at her and she will answer every question with tact and never dodge any of the questions. There's so much wisdom in her answers. I didn't follow this year Miss Universe and only watched the repeat show and news a few weeks later and I have to say that she really deserved the Crown and I know she has a BIG future lies ahead of her. This is one of the best Miss Universe winners!

Miss Philipines, unlike the other contestants, has had experience in the Miss World competition - where she didn't make it. Miss Venuezeulla has had plastic surgery done to appear more comely. Miss Universe is not just about swaying your hips, pirouetting your bosom and pouting your lips like a cheap tart. It's a platform for a person who is authentic and sincere about helping, inspiring and uplifting others. THEREFORE...Miss South Africa should've won - she has been working in poor communities as a training doctor. She's had the vision to help others, long before entering miss Universe. She got brains - lots of it. She is a natural beauty! No plastic surgery or unethical Filipino judges on her side. She is authentic! Therefore, she deserves the crown. ... THE TRUTH ABOUT THE FILIPINO CORRUPTION WILL SURFACE, SOON!

Prob because native filipinos are forced to aspire to western ideals, be it looks, lifestyles etc in order to achieve "success" in life . This forces them to disconnect with their roots (even shun them). Catriona coming from Australia and as a meztisa (half white) has the privilege of never having to aspire to those as she has them already. This allowed her to engage more with her filipino side without interruption

The remix was dope and Catriona’s voice was smooth and refreshing, but looking at her eyes, I felt like she’s a bit uncomfortable singing the song with that beat because the song is not intended to be sung as such. The lyrics in the verses convey a deep message and has sentimental value for Cat, so can’t blame her for cutting the song way too early.
I love how natural and carefree she is yet still looks so classy and sexy.

In Tagalog-speaking provinces, uncle and aunt are called 'tito and tita' while in Cebuano-speaking provinces it is 'tiyo and tiya' from the original Spanish word tio and tia.

After all, children of any age addressing their parents with their first names is disrespectful unless otherwise making a clear identification on their parents.

SHE CONTRADICTED HERSELF... Which means she made no sense. So it is possible that she has no degree... well, she has a certificate... I'm fine she won. But when I hear all these praises about her being super intelligent from people who love call other people stupid, I feel the need to enlighten those who may have a brain, that Catriona's communications skills are not fit for an IMPROMPTU SPEECH contest in elite Philippine Universities. She messed up in her final answer... It was too jumbled and she banked on the Drama of how there was STARVING CHILDREN and SLUM DWELLING FILIPINOS. The first thing that came out of her mind is that POOR CITY in the Philippines and went on talking as if she was running for public office in some rural town in the Philippines. No memorable phrase came out from any of answer. Venus Raj had "MAJOR, MAJOR", charlene gonzales, "High tide or Low Tide" and pia "the Universe rather". Catriona was all ACCENT and no substance. Great dress though...actually perfect dress

She has great command of the English language that made her stand out among her predecessors. And her train of thought is amazingly fast. This should serve as a wake up call to The Philippine Educational system to revamp English language or ELL curriculum, focuses on articulation (both written and oral) and stop mocking/ stigmatizing people who are trying to improve their accents.
