- I've yet to put a number on how many games I think this new-look Seattle Seahawks team can, and will, win in 2024...... until now.
Today I move beyond the general concepts that have driven my short-term outlook for the Hawks and finally put a number on it.
In the process, I'll try and quantify the three categories I think most fans and analysts fall into when trying to measure this team's ceiling.

I can't imagine how we could possibly do worse than last year, given all the MASSIVE improvements we've made in so many areas. I see us winning at least 10, but more likely 11 games this year. GO HAWKS!!!
Until anyone sees it the oline still hasn't improved at all. Hope it does. The best oline this team has had was over a decade ago with three returning starters under the same coach. This oline has zero with this scheme.
The dline is the best with talent and depth I can remember under John. The lbs, still a question. I think Macdonald will be great for them but overall it's an odd room.
@@iron_bison On the other hand, we haven't had great competition at the oline positions in the past. There was always a par or subpar level starter and competition for backups, and constant revolving doors. It doesn't seem that way anymore. We should be at least solid at 4 and possibly 5 oline positions, with better depth than we've had in the past. It might take half a season for the line to gel but once it does the offense will round into form. Totally agree with you on the dline.
@@kenjohnston1257I'm not convinced there's great competition or depth. I like satao but I don't think he's definitely better than curhan, forsythe. I like tomlinson just fine. But I dont think he's a big upgrade over Lewis.
Have hopes for olu but every year for 4 years I hear the new center is better than the last center.
If we get four solid starters that will be great for 2025. I'm a big believer that consistency matters for oline. Look at detroit, niners, Rams when they won the superbowl, eagles when they won, and more importantly when Seattle won the superbowl. Teams often improve when they get more returning starters.
We actually didn't have any massive improvements anywhere! The big change was our coaching staff, and I think that's where we separate ourselves from other teams! Our coaching staff has a chance to be really good, but we still might be a year or 2 away from really being an elite team, but I think we take the first step towards that this year. If everything goes perfect for us, I can see us winning 12 maybe 13 games, but I think we'll win 10-11 games only cause it's the first year we're running Macdonald's defense and Grubb's offense. Next year is when we'll take the huge step forward. Hopefully, I'm wrong, and it all comes together this year, but like I've said before, it's all gonna be on the o-line and d-line. If they can't improve, we're gonna have the same year we've had the last 2yrs.

Definitely in the 10 wins or more camp here!! I'm so fired up for the season to get underway. I think coach McDonald is going to get the best out of a very talented defensive roster, and the offense is going to continue to make strides and grow. Let's go Hawks!! ❤️😎💪

I believe 💯 that we r a 11-13win team, all do to everything u just mentioned on todays show. We were 9-8 the last 2yrs with no def last yr. The yr before we had what a top 15-20 secondary that completely dropped off the raidar last yr. So, u combine the resurgence of the secondary and the improvements up front and then all the great coaching changes... the skys the limit
I feel their going to take on the personality of their coach, which is very serious and pays attention to detail and if they do take on that mindset their going to be good and fast!
They rank us at 16 because they also ranked our QB at 18 and we really don't have any recognized superstar players. But we are probably more solid across the board, with better depth, than the majority of the teams ranked ahead of us. If Huff can mold our O-line and if McDonald can mold our interior LBs we will be fearsome
I'll go one step further. ESPN can't look any deeper than QB/WRs. It's lazy analysis

I'm part of an ex-pat Seahawk '12's' community in Bangkok, Thailand that roots every Sunday (usually very early Monday morning, here) at our favorite Seahawk supporting pub for the 'hawks. I must admit to being dubious at first after the departure of our much revered and loved Pete, but, increasingly, very excited about the arrival of the Macdonald era.
I'll guess 9-11 wins int he up-coming season based simply on the coaching changes. (The talent, latent as it has been) has laid dormant for the last 2-3 years).
I just hope Coach Macdonald and his lovely family can endure the long, gray winters of the Puget Sound environs!

Another reason for optimism is that in his first year as defensive coordinator of the Ravens, Mike McDonald improved the Ravens defense from 25th overall to 9th overall.

We never fired on all cylinders last year. A little chemistry and momentum goes a long way. That's a coin toss at this point, but I couldn't be more pleased with the HC and DT position choices. The DC and OC are unproven at the professional level, and it's been a tragedy in recent years, with regards to those positions. O Line is still a glaring weakness.
I think they're an 8 or 9 win team that starts ramping near the end of the season as the schemes become second nature to the players. I'm optimistic in the mid-to-long term but I think this year's going to be a building year. I'm of a similar opinion that wins and losses aren't as important this season, it's all about the players getting familiar with the new systems and improving every game.
I have them in the 8-10 win category. Similar team to last two years in every major position. I tend to believe that they'll look and act WAY better coached and schemed. It may be offset by the coaching staff being new/building the team
I agree the hawks could be this years Houston Texans.
10 plus wins! I think the defense will complement the offense like you said. I think the offense will be invigorated because of that. The defense getting off the field is key to the offensive success. They need more reps!
I think the floor is 9-8 and 11-6 is the ceiling. I’m thinking they land in the middle at 10-7 which I’ll be happy with going into 2025’.
Cautious optimism for me, reason being although I love the coaching staff hires they have never worked together previously and I believe it will take time to gel and for some to take the step up to the NFL level. It also generally takes longer for a new offensive scheme to settle in. The first 6 games will be key, if the team gets a flying start then a minimum of 10 wins. I just think we may need to be patient as I have every confidence this coaching staff can bring out the best in this roster. Have not been this excited and optimistic about the Seahawks a long time!
I think that 10 - 11 games is definitely possible. I will be shocked if the defense isn't better, and that alone be should be good for 1-2 wins above last year. I believe it's going to depend on the offense being able to learn and execute the new system, and will heavily lean on Geno Smith making quick and accurate decisions.
If the defense can get off the field better than they did last year, will give the offense more time on the field, and take pressure off of geno to have to be the game saver.
Dan, Last couple of seasons, I kept waiting quarter after quarter, for defensive and offensive adjustments to the other team's play. It seldom ever came, just continually rolling the same dice. I loved Coach Pete!
I now see aggressiveness potential on both sides of the ball; not the predictability of offense & defense of the recent past; a renewed focus of staff and players; and the constant dissing and underestimating will work in our favor! We will be better than all expects us to be, so take heart 12's! 10 or better wins!
If the Grubb offense is executed the right way I see Geno having multiple +250-260 yard passing games. Watch and see! Go Hawks!🔥l see them winning 10-11 games this year!
Because the team has been playing below par and with a New Head coach and coaching scheme and coaching staff. Super excited to see what happens this season on both sides of the ball good or bad change is coming and needed for a long time. Thanks for everything you do.
I put them at 12-5 just yesterday.. I'm confident that's what it will be !!
I got us 12-5 possibly 13-4 if we stay healthy. Our scheme on both sides of the ball are going to be something none of our opponents have seen in the Pete Carol era. Pass first offense and a defense you can't read presnap.

I believe 'based on good improvement in both the Defensive and Offensive Lines (Both) the blooming of the other aspects of (both) sides of the team will be better and MUCH improved....resulting in 11 wins and 6 losses Season!!!! Thanks I appreciate the basis you wisely established and articulated that allowed me to arrive at my 11-6 Win/Loss Record Prediction!!!

Don’t know what their record will be; but if the new coach(s) are as good as they appear to be….with their roster, they are potentially a very exciting team.
I'm with you Dan! If we're a 9 win team with maybe the worst defense in the league we should win a couple more games if we can just play average defense. We could be above average with a healthy Uchena and Byron Murphy addition.
I love Pete and was sorry to see him go. I am fully behind the new coaching staff. Yes, they are all first timers essentially but have risen to the top where they were. We have two “perceived “ weak groups this year, interior o line and linebackers. I’m actually optimistic about both. I was sorry to see Bobby leave, but was not bothered about Brooks leaving. He missed too many tackles. Our interior o line has a lot of new faces and I hope they gel fast. I think both the 49ers and Rams are good but if the coaches can get buy in, I think this team can contend for the top seed in the NFC West. #GoHawks
There was a lot of optimism going into last season and then the o-line got hit with injuries and it was musical chairs with 6’different starter combinations. Defense failure was coaching. Having said that- 9-8 allowing for potential injuries (God forbid!) and ceiling 11-6 if Rams and 49ers don’t have bad luck with injuries.
I like 10 wins but with the schedule it’s one of the toughest to make that.
I think they win because of the fact they have all the players and buy in with the new coaches.

They won't be as predictable on offense or defense as they've been over the past several years.
While I can understand why folks like to play the guessing game of future wins and loses, I don't play that because there are too many variables, and we don't have any accurate information on our opponents. I'd like to see them do better than nine wins, that's just a wish. I've built teams in business (not sports, but people is people) and it isn't just about projected talent, it's more about synergy. Can the talent be coordinated in an effective way to have a maximized team. The coaching group looks to be an upgrade, but they need to prove it.
The defense improved solely due to the staff's efforts, and the same goes for the offense. The only uncertainty lies with the offensive line, which didn't see new player additions but improved through coaching. This season might be the most intriguing for me as a Seahawks fan, as I wouldn't be surprised if the team struggled significantly in the first year, or made the playoffs and got a win.

Definitely agree you can win with Geno. All howell showed was that of all the guys to play qb he definitely was one. Good move to see "what if." Johns overal record with qbs based on what he's actually done is pretty big hits and a lot of misses. Whitehurst, lock, mcgough, davis.....ehhh
i hope fans do t panic fi st part of season i do think the D will have learning curve. This will be a better more competitive team than in past. i do think this team could win 10 games.

I do hope the offense is better. But the new OC saw one NFL style defense in college, and he was clueless as of what to do to move the ball. He scored 45+ against trash defenses and struggled against even average ones. The OC has never called 1 play in the NFL. Three new starters on the OL. New offense. No one would be surprised if they struggle on offense even if the OC turns out to be great. On defense 7 new starters. New defense. If the struggle no one will be surprised. New HC. Just because he's a very good DC wherever he's been doesn't mean he won't be a terrible HC. I hope he works out. He young. He can be there a long time. New staff everywhere means new ideas everywhere. They are up against the cap next year already. If Geno is good, his contract is written where it's now 50. He bet on himself and he might win but Seattle loses. He priced himself right off the team. Way too many ifs to win 11 games. If they win 7 it's a good year. I guess if most of the ifs turn out they could win 10. If all the ifs work 12ish. But to many ifs. No one is betting the farm on Seattle winning more than 7 if they have a working brain cell. They may want 11+ but that doesn't mean they'd bet the farm on it.
I had been scrolling looking for a grounded take for what felt like forever. I don’t think people are fully understanding how much time it takes to fully install a new offensive and defensive philosophy. 7-9 wins would be great for this team in a rebuilding year.
I'm in the 9-12 wins camp, too many variables to have clear expectations. First year coach, first year OC, first year DC, new defensive scheme, new offensive scheme. Upside is maybe the Defense will stop the McVay and Shanahan offenses for once since MikeMac and the Ravens gave both of them problems. I think second half of the season will be at least a couple games above .500. Maybe 4-4 in first 8 games, 6-3 in final 9 games. So let's say 10-7 is best guess. What if the first year coaches just really click as the season goes along? Even 11-6 or 12-5 if things go really well. I'm in the "Geno is pretty darn good" camp.

What if the team was literally just a 9 win team? Pete was never a master technician but when he had more talent he simply won more games. Im very excited but not sure how macdonald would get a much better defense with two safeties that are still free agents, a thin lb room, and a thin dline. I think macdonald will be great but hes helped by getting rid of dead weight
They won nine games with a lousy defense. At least 4 of their losses could just as well been wins with changes in one or two plays going our way each game. So winning three or four more games this year is not out of the question.

Yeah, I dont see how they dont hit double-digit wins. They got more talent on the field than last year. They can only improve scheme wise and with situational playcalling on both sides compared to last year. Then, mix in an easier schedule, on paper, than last year. How is this team not going to win double digits?
I have to believe we improve on the 9-8 mediocrity. Honestly, we could say 9 wins was a little lucky. A couple of times, we didn't play well and won and of course, we had the Drew Lock fluke vs. a flailing and over rated Eagles team. We don't need to be elite but I think the defense has to improve and the offense should be solid. But it's damn near impossible to predict just due to what happens from an injury standpoint. A team can get derailed quickly by injuries to top players. Then depth comes into play. We have improved the trenches which is always my most important areas. People need to just stop with the Geno negativity. It's getting beyond stupid how media and fans think the QB is the only player on the roster because of the "Mahomes factor". Rookie coaching is an x-factor, of course, but the roster has pieces and these coaches appear to have a good approach. 10-11 wins is a realistic goal if healthy. Maybe even 12 with some dumb luck. It's cautiously optimistic.
You have to be cautious with so many changes. Also you need to consider that McDonald has never been a head coach and Grubb hasn't been a coordinator in the NFL I don't believe.

I'm stoked for the future but I too tend to think this might be trickier than folks realize.
Dan mentions the revered coaches but who? Macdonald. After that I don't recall a lot of run for Grubb outside of Seattle. Hope he is great. Huff again I hope he's great but huskies didn't have a great oline until they had four star recruits across the board ( 6 of 7 starters were 4 star).
I was down on Pete at the end but if coaches with real nfl experience were making boneheaded decisions like what happens across the league I think it's a little simple to think presto chango all new coaches equals mistake free play calling all season long.
