To get the measurement I subtract the width of my drawer slides ( usually 1 inch) from the frames opening measurement. My nightstand after adding the frame had an opening of 29 inches. .I subtracted 1 inch for my drawer slides and that made my drawers 28 inches wide and a depth of 16 since my nightstand are 18 inches in depth.
So my drawer box dimensions was 29" W x 16" D x 7" H. To get the measurement I subtract the width of my drawer slides ( usually 1 inch) from the opening measurement. I also install my drawer slides on 1x2s because when I install my face frames it leaves a gap and the 1x2 will sit even with the frame.
