At high level, I like how he acquired the gems, but the split down the middle was a bit wacky for me. I think they turned Thanos into a goof one too many times in What If. Either have this one off moment, or the jokey Thanos in the Guardians episode. Other than that, I have no issues with this, it was terrific. Handicapped Ultron-Zola was super interesting. I loved how earnest Zola was in that situation and the dynamic between him and Nat.
I thoroughly feel like that how quick ultron would have dealt with Thanos. An AI with quicker reaction time and already knows about the stones because he himself was created from the one he’s powered by. He’s like the embodiment of the mind stone at that point
Yes, couldn't more. I also liked the dynamic of Zola with the heroes, I always like when previous villains have to work together with the heroes to survive. I also thought that the way Ultron kills Thanos was rather off-putting, though with the short lenght of the episode there wouldn't be many ways of doing it without looking contrived.

@@reddeadspartan yeah I got that, but if the Watcher would have shut up! He could have, at least, delayed some of the destruction that Ultron si doing. Can the Watcher just stop thinking out loud?

Anyone else notice that the fight after they capture an Ultron bot, they were climbing up the same pit that Tony, Bucky and Steve fought in in Civil War? I just loved the continuity there.

During the scene when Ultron and Uatu were fighting between universes, there was a planet that looked exactly like Mustafar, even with a 100% accurate Vader's castle.
Also, the planet they first appeared on where Ultron cleared away the forest in one go looked awfully like Felucia. Even down to the weird half bent-over trees.
If anything, Thanos is the one who's been redeemed. All of a sudden he doesn't seem so bad anymore. Especially with the right character (T'Challa Star Lord) to talk him down.
nah fuck that episode it was so stupid, you cant tell me that just cause Star Lord was Tchalla he somehow was able to talk down Thanos into not committing his plan into KILLING HALF THE UNIVERSE.
For me, this is a contender for favourite episode besides the Doctor Strange one. I adore messed up realities, and Ultron is one of my favourite Marvel villains. It’s good to see him back and doing more than what he did in Avengers Age of Ultron
That Hawkeye Francis joke shot me straight back to the Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow animated movie (also covering the Age of Ultron storyline) where kid Pym clowns kid Hawkeye for the same reason. Not sure if it's a direct joke from the comics too, but I love the inclusion.
In an alternate universe, Corn of Coblin has obtained all six infinity stone and has shucked EVERYONE. They called it “the shucking”, and everyone got shucked SO hard. It’s really poppin off now.
I'm still kinda salty that white vision in wandavisiok didn't reboot as some form of ultron to bring him back to the mcu. I know it won't happen but it would be neat if ultron send one drone to the mcu as a last ditch attempt to save his consciousness
@@mr.dr0bot731 Naw man. White vision was literally original vision body without the mind stone. They could have claimed that even though the process failed to complete, some amount of Ultron was still in there.
There is that one ultron head that appears to be activated in Homecoming, which implies Ultron still exists in the main universe. He's just stuck inside that head since Vision disabled his Internet connection.
One thing I did think was interesting, was it looks like due to the nature of the MCU multiverse branching from some core universe, apparently Infinity Stones from one universe can work in others. That's a departure from the comics as you've mentioned before re: the Fantastic Four.
My take on this was when the watcher says "This should not be possible." he is referring directly to the infinity stones. Ultron then says "Oh, but anything is possible in a multiverse." Which I think implies that this specific set of infinity stones does work in the multiverse? Just a theory though.
@@my4cc0unt that’s also what I was thinking. In a multiverse, even if there’s universe where they don’t work in other universes, that means there’s universes where they do. Still wish they’d said it though. It mucks with the rules they’ve established

I think the "In your universe" argument for who the Watcher is talking to might not go that deep. The intro for every episode in the series includes the Watcher saying "I am *your* guide through these vast new realities". He's essentially telling tales to those who are only familiar with the original MCU Sacred Timeline, i.e. the audience, or, if you wanna stretch it, a denizen of that main timeline. It likely isn't meant to be taken literally and doesn't have anything to do with Strange. The Watcher is basically Rod Serling up until Ultron realizes he and the multiverse are physical things. Could even say it's teasing the fourth wall a little bit. Of course, Infinity Corn of Coblin will put all arguments to bed when he shows up next week
He is most definitely breaking the 4th wall and Ultron was too when he said “anything is possible in the multiverse”. Ultron might come back in Dr Strange 2
I love how the scene where Ultron notices the Watcher is written like the Watcher is an actor reading a script and then realizes his that his character, the main protagonist, is about to die.
We got a proper Age of Ultron, y'all. Finally!! Ultron is hands down one of my absolute favorite comicbook villains ever & he was phenomenal in this. Not a fan jokester Ultron I'm glad we FINALLY got a cold & calculating Ultron. Only wish they got James Spader back. He was the best part of the movie for me. His voice is just amazing. Hate that they killed off Thanos so easily but the Watcher fight made up for it in my opinion. That was just, WOW! Amazing stuff
You can’t get a funny man like james spader and not have him quip; whether you hate it or not spaders casting determined the personality of the character.

I think my favourite part of the show's animation is whenever Uatu's doing something with his power and they actually use "Kirby Dots" in the animation, and I THINK so far they only use Kirby Dots in relation to Uatu. It's a fantastic nod to the co-creator Jack "The King" Kirby and his revolutionary artstyle. I also love how Uatu's as powerful (or nearly) as an entire Infinity Being. In the comics he's pretty badass. Though according to Marvel's unofficial skill rating, he has a 7 (Maxx = Godlike) rating in everything except "Fighting Skills", which is at a 1.... but seeing him throw down with Ultron here he didn't seem like a Fighting Skill = 1 guy to me. 12:43-12:59 this was a nice bit of editing that I just wanted to point out. Obviously it fits with what they are talking about, but it was really funny to me haha
The editing making it looks like Uatu was terrified of the redcap/garden-gnome was incredible. Also, has yanking a USB early EVER caused actual problems in the real world? Or it is like needing to turn off all electronic devices during a takeoff?
I never thought they'd top Doctor Strange Supreme. That was absolutely magnificent. But this one did for me. Ultron & The Watcher were absolutely phenomenal. This, Doctor Strange Supreme & the zombie episodes were the kinda stuff I wanted from a what if show. Also, the whodunnit mystery episode was pretty solid stuff.
Honestly Marvel has been trying to redeem the weaker movies for a while. Loki made a big deal about Thor Dark World following Avengers Endgame. We've had a revisit of the Incredible Hulk in a previous ep of What If along with various cameos of characters from that movie in other things. Obviously Age of Ultron here. I'm surprised we didn't get an Ironman 2 cameo yet. Re: Thanos, I was fine with a defeat for the Mad Titan, it's Ultron's "comic" after all. The problem was when Thanos did that move triumphantly warping in Infinity War...he already had his Black Order and entire army on the field. He wasn't just strolling in about to get jumped. Now if Ultron hacked Thanos' ship and his Chitauri and that's why suddenly Thanos (a genius and master strategist) found himself alone and surprised...maybe that would be better.
@@IcyDiamond Well like I said, the end result is fine, time constraint was what it was, but I think they could have just added 10 seconds with the army showing up....then getting hacked and end being the same.
@GiRayne Different courses for different horses. I felt it either needed to have half the characters and stories offloaded into different movies/shows so we could have a tight story be told, or it needed to be split into two movies. Things that explain why the Tony that basically quit being IM in IM3 and destroyed his suits is now in charge of an entirely autonomous Iron Legion and back in the suit. And that's just one storyline. And for me, I'm used to a premier team like the Avengers, or X-men, or JLA, or JSA, breaking up into smaller groups to achieve different goals or stories.
@GiRayne I agree, I think it was a great film, sure, a little bloated but still great. Most complaints come from expectations due to the comic book, but as a normal fan that isn’t an issue. I felt age if ultron was much mire beautiful cinematically as opposed to the og avenger which looks visually ugly and cartoonish. Like you said, it’s also the only movie where it’s a fixed team and will be the last avengers movie because the universe is just way too big now so even if they have a smaller roster in the next movie, you will be left wondering why the other heroes aren’t there. Finally, the movie was a launchpad for many other marvel movies like civil war, ragnorok, and even Wanda vision. I just wish we had mire if ultron as opposed to him being a one time thing
Interesting how the infinity stones worked outside of their own universe in this episode. Usually (in the comics) they can’t and I assumed the mcu was going that route since they didn’t work in the TVA in Loki
The way I see it, Thor caught Thanos off guard with all the infinity stones and managed to land his axe in his chest. Iron Man was able to physically overpower Thanos for a few moments. Mantis was able to subdue his mind. It's just making clear, he's dangerous, but not invincible. You can catch him off guard, hit him hard enough to Injure him, behead him, slice his arm off etc etc Hes not invincible with the stones either, he has to use them first. Many Marvel characters are strong enough to kill him. It more or less confirms to me the reason Thanos didn't just take the stones right away. Because he'd be killed, so he made a plan. He also gave Loki the mind stone so it would be closer to the others. But Thanos would have to be brain dead to try and kill the ancient one without a good plan.

And later gohan himself became useless post cell arc. And in retrospect It diminishes the power I perceived thanos to have . Just like trunks and gohan become a footnote outside their own short-lived story arcs.
Noone watches that gay anime shit
@@rodneyjones1991 That's ignoring how durable Thanos should be, he should not have been killed so easily, especially with five of the six infinity stones.

The funny thing of this episode of "What if", was the fact that Ultron was not noticing the parallel Universes until the Watcher started to narrate.
I think they way they explained was that since he killed pretty much everything the universe was finally silent enough for a being on his level to hear the Watcher
@@reddeadspartan yeah I got that, but if the Watcher would have shut up! He could have, at least, delayed some of the destruction that Ultron si doing. Can the Watcher just stop thinking out loud?

Tony and Thanos are both having trouble in this series. Something against T names maybe?
Next episode: evil Doctor Strange opens up a new dimension and just shoots Tony in the face with a glock for no reason whatsoever, and then goes about his business.
tony is the smartest dumbass in all these universes.
In the background of the Avenger's death scene, was Hulk just a pile of green goo? Did anybody else see that?
Maybe an absolute point
During the scene when Ultron and Uatu were fighting between universes, there was a planet that looked exactly like Mustafar, even with a 100% accurate Vader's castle.
Star Wars had Marvel issues. Disney owns Star Wars therefore is part of Marvel.
Darth Vader solo series is part of Marvel omniverse
Also, the planet they first appeared on where Ultron cleared away the forest in one go looked awfully like Felucia. Even down to the weird half bent-over trees.
If anything, Thanos is the one who's been redeemed. All of a sudden he doesn't seem so bad anymore. Especially with the right character (T'Challa Star Lord) to talk him down.

I'm still kinda salty that white vision in wandavisiok didn't reboot as some form of ultron to bring him back to the mcu. I know it won't happen but it would be neat if ultron send one drone to the mcu as a last ditch attempt to save his consciousness

There is that one ultron head that appears to be activated in Homecoming, which implies Ultron still exists in the main universe. He's just stuck inside that head since Vision disabled his Internet connection.
When Ultron and Watcher were smashing through dimensions, I swear the one planet looked like Mustafar from Star Wars Revenge of The Sith
I think all kinds of messed up stuff was happening because they were ripping holes across the entire multiverse.
@@my4cc0unt that’s also what I was thinking. In a multiverse, even if there’s universe where they don’t work in other universes, that means there’s universes where they do. Still wish they’d said it though. It mucks with the rules they’ve established
So zombie Thanos with IG Vs Ultron with IG, who's IG will reign supreme? Then you have Supreme Strange and friends to round it off. Last episode is going to be bonkers!
@@TheDemontr1 Yeah I felt a return to Battleworld was where this was going to go once that Party Thor episode ended. The wastelands where Marvel Zombies and Age of Ultron (the comic version) were waiting to kill anyone exiled by Doom...and willing to fight each other as well.

Ross Marquand definitely sounded like he was trying to do James Spader's Ultron. You can tell by his cadence and how he enunciated things. Don't know what you guys are talking about.
Definitely, I heard it too
I actually thought it was Spader until I saw the credits
Other languages like spanish are using Spader's voice actor for this Ultron. That shows that disney could they would have used all the real actors to repeat the voices and that Marquand was just doing a Spader voice. I dont know about other countries but in the Spain version of What if all the voices are the real ones from the spanish versions of the movies so its sounds great and not jarring.
I loved the editing on this video! I mean every one is good but nice work!! And this was my favorite episode so far, then the doctor strange episode. Can't wait to see the ending
They even used the TVA computer in the promo for this episode. ua-cam.com/video/U7Jy5R-ADmY/v-deo.html
He is most definitely breaking the 4th wall and Ultron was too when he said “anything is possible in the multiverse”. Ultron might come back in Dr Strange 2
I like the reference to Ross Sterling as the show reminded me of a Marvel version of The Twilight Zone up until that last episode.
Love the editing with The Watcher and the nome from Strange Supreme. Smashing!

We got a proper Age of Ultron, y'all. Finally!! Ultron is hands down one of my absolute favorite comicbook villains ever & he was phenomenal in this. I was massively let down & disappointed in the movie version of Ultron. Hated that they made him do quips like almost every MCU character. Not a fan jokester Ultron
I'm glad we FINALLY got a cold & calculating Ultron.

I just wanted there to be a bit of a struggle for Ultron when fighting Thanos, he can still win but it shouldn’t be this damn easy for him to win

You can catch him off guard, hit him hard enough to Injure him, behead him, slice his arm off etc etc
Hes not invincible with the stones either, he has to use them first.
I mean, his plan to kill the ancient one would have still been the same "send ebony and cull to deal with it"
