"It's good to be home, huh, Commander?" Is every fans reaction to seeing the Normandy again.
I admit i tear up every time I see the Normandy. She is just as much a part of the crew as anyone.
She'll look after you just fine.
Same here, friend. Like, I can’t describe how I felt the first time I saw that scene…the whole “intro” to ME2 I felt off, like things weren’t right. Kinda like I had started the game on the back foot, you know?
And then Joker shows up, bringing a new Normandy with him, and for the first time since the game started, I felt like I back in the saddle, like I wasn’t playing a down-and-out character anymore; Shepard was back in the fight for real at this point, and I was along for the ride. So yeah, I’m totally willing to admit that I tear up every time I see this cutscene

A small hint. When you go to Engineer Donnelly and Engineer Daniels, don't approach them straight away, they often make some small talk if you're just in the room with them. Both of them are great. These little conversations are always worth hearing and also occur with other crew members.
“Both of them are great.” Well, until 3, anyway. I want to airlock Donnelly in that one.

The dlc ”Arrival” is highly recommended to be played after the main story, as it leads into the beginning of ME3.
I just love how instantly everything just... feels right at home once Joker and the Normandy show up. And then the music kicks in 🥹

Note: you can pick all the flirty options you want with Kelly. She's not a "real" romance option and it won't interfere with any actual romance you want to pursue. In fact, without giving away a fairly small spoiler, there is a reason why flirting with Kelly whenever you can is probably a good thing to do.
Jacob's another matter entirely. As with Kaidan in ME1, if you keep picking the Paragon dialogue options with him, you can find yourself going down the romance route whether you want to or not. No problem if you want to romance him, obviously, but if you don't, choose your dialogue carefully!
I know you miss your original team (EVERYONE does when they first start this game, myself included) so I will just say: have faith. This game has one of the best casts in gaming history. Open your heart to the new friends you will make and keep it open for the old ones that will cross your path. :)
You’re in for quite the treat with the ME2 crew, virtually all of them are as awesome as the crew from the first game. They’re some of the best characters in any game I’ve played, especially Mordin Solus.
With the exception of Jacob. But everyone else more than makes up for it (everyone is entitled to their opinion of course). And Mordin might be the MVP all games combined.

Until a year ago I didn't know how much of the fandom disliked Jacob. He probably is my least favorite character in ME2, but some people really hate him. I really enjoyed his loyalty mission as well. @@Nohrland
@@TrippleBPlays Yeah I don't get the hate for him. Bioware really shafted him character wise but hating him is kind of ridiculous.
I think Vanguard becomes the most fun class to play imo. It encourages you to be aggressive and use the charge ability since it also gives you shields. Very good for survival. Otherwise infiltrator with the cloaking and the sniping is my second favorite playstyle.
vanguard on insanity is a different beast. your just as likely to die with the charge ability if there is even 1 other enemy near where you're charging
I always felt ME2 was much about hiding behind cover and sniping headshots without taking much damage. I mean you feel much more squishy compared to ME1..
So I always enjoyd a class with a sniper.. Adept was also fun.
I really like the voice actors in mass effect trilogy, they did an amazing job. Jennifer Hale is personal favourite actress in mass effect, especially when you renegade path.

You'll be fine with the combat. It was an adjustment for everyone. Just give it time. Same for your build. It will evolve as you play further.

What exactly happened with Cerberus infiltrating the quarian flotilla is one of those little references the later games like to sneak in to the tie-in material. Much like the details of Saren and Anderson's mission together were in the 'Mass Effect: Revelation' novel, the details of the Cerberus-quarian affair are in the novel 'Mass Effect: Ascension.' As before it adds some extra depth and context to things but isn't important to understand the overall plot of the games.
You can use your charge ability. The charge ability restores half of your shield every time you use it, and can even be upgraded to restore your whole shield. I think it is the best ability. Use it when you are low on shield :)

Then you shouldn’t have neglected her suit upgrades in ME1 😆 Tali’s holding a grudge.
So you got two quest to meet a certain Zaeed and Kasumi. Those are dlc quest, Zaed is a short one, and Kasumi a longer one.
You will recieve notification when a squadmate want a specific conversation with you. Also each squadmate have something to say after each story mission.
If you miss the barrier ability, the vanguard ability "charge" do the same thing, with a little extra spice.
Engineer Donnelly and Engineer Daniels are hilarious. I love them.
So just a heads up, the game already told you that overload deals with shields, any power that has a fire property like jacob’s incendiary ammo can deal with armor (the yellow bar).

Reliving this series vicariously through you is gonna be amazing. There are so many good things about this game I particular from story to characters to more streamlined combat.
I know you miss your old crew, but it’s ok! Most of them are still alive. Plus there are plenty of great new companions in this game, which I’m sure you’ll love (twelve companions total!).
I highly recommend starting with Omega and recruiting everybody there, as your crewmates have suggested.
Also, as far as ammo powers go, disruptor ammo is good against mechs and shields. Incendiary ammo is good against organics and armor. Cryo ammo can freeze enemies.
Vanguard is all about being aggressive and using the charge ability. It's a fun class to play, it might just take you a bit to get use to the combat after ME1.
I think it's cool that we're getting to see things from Cerberus's perspective. Martin Sheen does a great job at portraying The Illusive Man. He gives me strong Mr House vibes, very interesting character. I'm not a D&D expert, but if I were to put Cerberus on a D&D alignment chart they'd probably be Neutral Evil or Chaotic Neutral. Omega is actually a really good first destination. You'll find three teammates to recruit there. The Citadel is also a good place to go early on.
I find it very annoying but not at all surprising that as soon as Shepard is dead; the team gets disbanded, Anderson gets politically backstabbed and everything gets swepped under the rug. From what Engineers Donnelly and Daniels have said, even The Alliance turns against Shepard. No wonder a lot of people ended up joining Cerberus.

You're doing great so far! As for tips; cover is definitely your friend in this game. Also, the different areas you go to generally have what I would call "limited exploration", meaning that you can look around pretty quickly and you can usually find something useful if you do. You are already doing this, so this is just me encouraging you to keep doing that. And yes, talk to everyone regularly, which you are also already doing. So, like I said, you're off to a great start!
A few things:
• In ME 2, your health heals automatically when your shields recharge. The only other way to heal (to revive squadmates, or if you can’t wait for your shields to recharge cause you’re about to get killed) is to use Unity in the power wheel.
• the “Y” button no longer heals you, unless you map/hot key Unity to the Y button. You can map/hot key three of your powers, to the Y button, LB and RB. You can use d-pad left and right to map/hot key one power for each of your squadmates that you bring with you on missions.
• You’ll be able to select Barrier as a bonus power for Shepard later in the game, after Jacob’s Barrier ability is unlocked
• Biotic charge is not only a good way to close the distance between you and enemies and deal them massive damage, it recharges 50% of your shields. So whenever your shields are down, you can charge at an enemy to get some back--you can upgrade it so it recovers 100% of your shields
• sections of the ship you currently don’t have access to will be unlocked each time you get a new squadmate
• explore every part of each mission you do, there’s always terminals, wall safes and PDAs to hack/bypass for credits and upgrades, I think you missed a wall safe on Freedom’s Progress.
I also like how you sound with the mic closer. Great and exciting playthrough again, btw.
The big microphone is a throw back to the 30's crooners. Get a Veronica Lake hairdo, a red dress, and a piano to lay on and you've got the whole vibe.

None of us will fault you for tearing up at the Joker /Normandy reveal. I honestly believe we all did, especially those of us that had to wait. Very much looking forward to seeing your journey through ME2, easily one of the best sci-fi games of all time (IMO) keep up the great work!!
If you ever watched Battlestar Galactica, EDI's voiceover is Tricia Helfer, she played Number Six in that series, & voiced Black Cat in various Spider-Man media & cartoons. She got a great part in Mass Effect, you'll love her as EDI. Her character becomes even more pivotal by the 3rd game. 🙂

Dude, you're gonna love this game! All I'll say is patience is key. You'll get what you want as the game goes on. People will probably have said it already, but make sure you choose as many paragon options as possible. You're going to need the charm, there aresome hefty choices. Loving this playthrough!

Try not to miss the paragon prompts on the screen, and the renegade ones too. Don’t be scared they will never make you fail a mission if fact they can actually help you sometimes make things easier.
This. Not every Paragon or Renegade will have good/bad outcomes. One example was when you use the Paragon "This Ship is a copy." and Joker goes, you're such a downer. Despite being Paragon, it comes off as insensitive to Joker. If you choose the middle option, Shepard would have commented the ship is technically civilian, not military, and she's lucky Joker isn't in his underwear.
@@KierrokCyclone true, but I was referring to the quicktime prompts that appear on screen. Sometimes the renegade ones can help a situation it just depends on who they are for.

Just a couple of tips to help you see everything Mass Effect 2 has to offer. This game and ME3 have some fairly unforgiving cut off points for missions so I’d advise doing all the side quests you want before advancing the main mission. The exception to this are the crew recruitment missions and DLC missions. Crew quests are technically main missions but they just get you a new crew mate, DLC missions can be done whenever even after the main game is completed.
Also talk to everyone even more than you did in the first game. Every squad mate in this game has their own unique mission after you talk to them enough. These quests are some of the best written in the entire series and completing them gets your squad mates a new power so you definitely don’t want to miss these missions.

Oh, one more thing I forgot. You can upgrade the Normandy in this game and some upgrades can only be bought after talking to certain crewmates, just one more reason to talk to everyone. 😊

It's really amazing just how much a musical score can enhance an already fantastic scene. The reveal of the Normandy SR-2 is easily in my top five favorite moments from the entire ME trilogy. The way it hits the player with all these different feelings and invigorates you with the absolutely epic swelling of the orchestral score as the Normandy exits the dock...it's literally a chef's kiss moment. And I doubt it will be the last scene in this game with an amazing score that will make you tear up.

Romancing Kelly actually doesn’t affect any other romances you have active. If you romance her once you invite her up to the cabin, she will actually take care of your fish for you, so they won’t die when you’re off on missions. It’s technically not a romance more of a flirtation and well you’ll see.

There is indeed a big learning curve but based on your fighting skills in ME1, I’m sure you’ll pick it up readily. My big challenge was learning to utilize squad to take down shields and barriers quickly-in ME1 Shepard with shotgun can practically solo things.
Pretty sure you can buy an awesome shotgun on Omega, maybe even before you find your Salarian scientist.
Off topic, but on the end of ME1 I realize that you string together cuss words the same as me, except I do it when mad, not crying, but still!! Great minds think alike, right? 😄

I tear up so badly to mass effect music. Omg omg when the Normandy shows up every time. It hits me like I got shot. And the tears flow hard. The music is another worldy music. Omg. Sorry but this game is the best in the world. Arguably. And it was number 2 or 3 In all time RPGs. Mass effect for life

It's been said a million times but I have to say it aswell, it's worth remembering to visit Joker after every mission.
Combat is more difficult, I feel you. Sadly I don't think it would make a big difference having Barrier or not. There will be a lot of options for new weapons and when you maxed a skill you get two options to customize the skill. After a few missions and one or two maxed skills you'll be back to your desired juggernaut playstyle. :)
If I remember the few pieces of pre-release info I consumed regarding this game at the time of its original release, back in 2010, they blew up the Normandy because they wanted to expand the crew (squad) and there wasn’t enough room onboard the original ship. So they blew it up and created a new one with the same basic design, but with more interior space.
They also wanted to allow players to choose a new class to go along with the reworked combat system. The out of universe reason for the first Normandy’s loss.
3:51 Miranda's voice actress, Yvonne Strahovski played Hannah McKay, the worst character in Dexter. Hannah poisoned innocent people for kicks but was portrayed as killing to survive because the producer fancied Yvonne.
She is also Sarah Walker on Chuck and was nominated for an Emmy award for her role of Selena in The Handmaid's Tale.
Squad building, squad relationships and character progression is the highlight of this game i wouldnt worry about it.
Even though it wasn't "homework", I would like to complete this assignment by saying I like the new mic set up.
Also you progress the story by recruiting other members for your crew you unlock more areas of the ship.

I'm sure others have said this but, ME2 is the hardest of the trilogy and staying in cover is mandatory only dipping out at strategic times ex: biotic charge to get a better position or finishing off an opponent. :) Using your squamates effectively and controlling the use of their powers is extremely helpful and selecting the right pairing of squamates based on your Shepards class is key.

Honestly, I feel you on everything feeling different and off. ME2 is one of my favorite games, and I LOVE the changes from the first game. That doesn't really fix what is almost an ontological shock of what you described, playing the fuck out of a game, then jumping into its different sequel right away. I get big sads from finishing a game, let alone having to learn from the ground up again. Keeping in mind the things you struggled with specifically re: ME2 so far
You did awesome with your squad powers in this one! That's the game right there in a microcosm. A small backseaty tip in caps because the game doesn't explain it: IF THE POWER HAS A RED FILLED IN AREA, IT'S INEFFECTIVE. IF ITS CLEAR, IT WORK GOOD.

If you have a relationship with Kelly, she will feed the fish so they don't die.
I love playing as the male character and following the renegade root. There is a lot of funny lines that is said with that path. At time some of the conversation can be cold as well.
For what it's worth I like the sound from the new Mic position. I can live without seeing part of your left arm in the vids and the potential for lean-in whisper comments is really intriguing.

Please don't refuse. Not too much, at least. Emotional regulation is great, but your unabashed, unfiltered reaction to these stories as you experienced them for the first time is *amazing* . I hope you realize the gift you give fans of the series by remaining as true to that part of yourself as you can.
Being sensitive & receptive to affect is a great way to connect to other people's creativity & learn about what the nuances of what separates the best stories from the rest. And I *really* have a lot of respect for creators who not only do the same, but on camera, live, without editing or suppressing themselves... because the internet makes that *SO* hard to do without feeling judged.
Having just discovered you from the Interstellar reaction, I get the sense that you'll actually have a hard time refusing anyway (and good on you for that), but ... for what it's worth from a random stranger, a fellow creator, & a new subscriber: Cry all you want. The feels are lovely, and I'm grateful you chose to share them.

How to heal yourself - generally you should hide behind the cover and after a short delay, your health bar and shields will fully recover. In critical situations you can use Unity and it will also fully recover your health and shields, not just revive KOd squadmates ^^
Enjoy your start of the ME2 journey. It will be interesting to see what choices you make in the story of this great series. It may be difficult, but try to screen other comments as you read them and stop short if you sense spoilers.
Non-spoiler tips here:
-Heavy weapons like the arc projector and grenade launcher use special ammo that pick up in the field. The amount you have carries over mission to mission, so if you deplete your ammo in one mission, you will start the next with zero ammo.
-if you want to read little tidbits about your new squad before you recruit them, there are dossiers in the team status section of your private terminal
-Firewalker and Normandy wreckage are dlc that can be completed whenever, but overlord is recommended for maybe when you have most of your squad or even after the main story if you prefer.
-Health is different in this game. If you take a lot of damage and you take cover, you automatically recover full health over a brief period. Unity is for when your squad is down or when you simply can’t make it to cover before death
The first time I played this game I was also mad that my old team didn't join me, but I'll give BioWare credit, they made me love my new team just as much as my old ones. I miss when BioWare created characters we cared about.
Use your Charge ability liberally, one of the most OP powers once you figure how to apply it effectively, and when you get to 3 they turn that thing up to 11. Zip Boom Bang!
55:50 You're actually correct. Whether that was an EA thing, or someone else, it was confirmed by somebody working on the legendary edition. The person in charge of cutscenes became uncomfortable with the gratuitous rear end shots, so they moved the cameras around.
55:52 Now that you mention it, they adjusted some of the camera angles for this version of ME 2, because there were many times (specifically when talking to Miranda) that the camera angles focus a lot on her butt. Supposedly, there were complaints.
There are three Mass Effect books, taking place between and after the games, one of them describes what happened when Cerberus attacked the quarian ship Prazza is talking about, the Idenna. And regarding Kelly, she is rather flirtatious, but you can't romance her, so there's no harm in speaking to her. And yes, that is a fish tank 🐠Since I have a few myself, and it's one of my biggest hobbies, I am particularly fond of that part of the Normandy.
