  • All Blacks coach Scott Robertson has rung the changes for the second rugby test against Argentina in the Rugby Championship, being played at Auckland's Eden Park on Saturday evening. Four changes have been made to the starting side XV [15], and one notable alteration to the bench with former captain Sam Cane being included.
It's Only Sport host Martin Devlin runs through audio cuts of Robertson at the team naming press conference, before discussing a variety of selection-based topics with producer Lachlan Waugh, such as whether Will Jordan should be picked at fullback or on the wing and if Cane deserves a start.

Once Scott Barrett is fit. I don't see Tupou Vai in the 23. Im not a fan of TJ, but can I see why the coaches picked him. The argies are making the breakdown messy, and the younger halfbacks don’t have enough experience to deal with that. However, once Cam roigard is fit. He's straight to number 1 halfback as far as I'm concerned. By then the other 2 halfbacks should've had enough time in the system to back him up. TJ wouldn't be in the picture by then as far as I'm concerned. I still believe it to be early days. Crusaders under Robertson were often slow starters. You can't throw a coach in and try to implement a change of styles, and have it all clicking. I like the outside changes for this week. One thing we haven't had is straight out gas in our wingers. With rieko, jordan and Caleb who can bend the line with his size. I think things should be better

@HighBoss I wasn't expecting Argies to cause us problems. I thought the ref was letting the argies have two fellas going for the steel even when one arrived after a ruck had already formed, which is illegal. However, we let Argentina off the hook twice after scoring with loose passing, and just dumb clearing of the ball in our half. This was caused by Argentina pressure as well, and we weren't aggressive enough in the clean out. There shouldn't be any complacency this week. I would like to see a bit more mongrel at the right time. Argentina are emotional people, and getting them angry would probably be not a bad thing.

In saying that I'd much rather lose knowing we had a good crack and were repelled as opposed to losing because we weren't daring enough.

The SA thing is overstated. Their teams were frequently a joke and hadn´t seriously challenged the top rankings for years, and many of their bast players played in Europe anyway. The move up north has brought them more money, and as result they´re able to retain more of their better playing talent. Additionally they enjoy massive depth as a result of their player base, the largest of any rugby nation, and the ability to pick from every corner of the Globe for their national team. Their absence from Super Rugby hasn´t made the competition any stronger, but it´s not like they were a serious force for most of the time they were involved. Outside of a few good years in the late 00´s early 10´s, it´s been quite the opposite in fact.

The tight five is where it's at, ABs are lacking a bit of depth in the engine room with injuries to key personnel, notably Scott Barrett and Patrick Tuipulotu so Tupou Vaea is next in line with an opportunity to gain more development in that area most certain, Tamaiti is a great addition and the forwards and their coaching staff would've done the reviews , what, where, and why things went pear shaped in that first, noted everything accordingly and ready to deliver redemption....

Yep. Trouble brewing. We hear about the exodus of greats last year, but I think the reality is that it actually happened after 2015. We’re still assuming and hoping good at Super means good at Test level. That’s coming under a lot of scrutiny. The group speak coming out of the ABs coaching group is not vaguely reflected in the performances after four games. What ABs team in 1996, 2003, 2010, 2015 looked as bad as this after four games in a season?

TJ was never a starting 9, he is slow, inaccurate, indecisive and is leaving NZ why would you start him when you have superior players in the wings and they need to gain experience, if we can't start them against Argentina we certainly can't start them against the Springboxs, Ireland or anybody else. If they want to persevere with McKenzie the partnership from the Chiefs at 9 and 10 against Argentina would have been the time. Personally if they want to continue with Beauden start him at 10, Jordie at second who hasn't had a decent game since the new team was named, perhaps as a result of the slow, indecisive and inaccuracy at half back, which is affecting McKenzie and on it goes down the line. Keeping Barret at 12, I would have ALB at 13, Reiko at 14, WJ and 15 and Clarke at 11. In the forwards we have no go forward, pun intended. We need another bigger lock to partner Darry, a big 8 as in Sotutu, keep Papali'i at 7 although Sam Cane is awesome but is leaving, and Ardie at 6. Blackadder tries hard but is too small to carry the ball effectively and gives away to many penalties.

I'd put Ardie on the bench for his impact and experience. Maybe Finau or Suafoa from the Māori All Blacks at 6, Walker-Leawere at 4 until Tuipoloto or Barrett get back

I can't agree with any of the nonsense about Beauden not being a fullback. Will Jordan doesn’t have the kicking game to be an international 15, and we won't win a lot of games without a tactical kicking game from that position. Leave Will on the wing to chase kicks and score tries-he’s our best winger! I agree with Rieko, though ALB didn’t exactly make a strong case last week-his performance was worse than any of Rieko’s so far. Cane should definitely start; his leadership is crucial, especially with these young forwards starting. And let’s not forget, we’re playing with our 3rd, 4th, and 5th choice locks at the moment.

Will Jordan at Fullback...reality check on this one. The guy has scored 30 plus tries for the All Blacks in 30 test matches playing on the wing. One try per game (roughly) what other player in world rugby gives you that return on the wing....No one.
TJ is now in the Finlay Christie Locker Of Slow Halfbacks. Should never be starting, and Ratima and Roigard are the future. Rueben Love at 10, bring him in there now with RWC 2027 as the motivation and see how he goes. If that doesnt work, Harry Plummer slots in, he is the Kiwi version of Handre Pollard. Send Jordie Barrett to Leinster now, and lets see Caleb Clarke and Billy Proctor in the centers. If you want to match the Aki´s and De Allende´s of this world we need pace, and size in at No 12. In a bounce-back game where we'll likely trounce the Argies, this would have been a massive chance to inject some fresh talent into the backline. Proctor albeit against Fiji really spiced things up for change before Jordie - in typical fashion - came on and killed the backline flow. Razor has shown nothing so far. This team is Ian Fosters team which he inherited. You have the world's fastest winger as a centre. A world class fullback and a try scoring machine at that as a winger. A lethal full back in broken play as a first five. A openside flanker who with enough mongrel to attack each and every breakdown thus becoming a true jakal playing at 8. This is beyond absurd.

Not really, this is life under "The Messiah". Don't blame Foster. It's not his team and he didn't have McKenzie as a 10 long term, just the odd game. Best 10 we have currently is Plummer or Miller. Maybe Perofetta.

No clear selection policy or combination development, too reliant on players whom aren't going to make the next cup.

Blackadder would not make any top 6 side. Our backrow is unbalanced, Ardie should be 7. Bring on big guys at 6 & 8 or guys that can bust that advantage line. We leaked 38 points, whats this both sides of the ball, when we leak 38 points. We want to play like Auckland bust up the middle then this minimises what we need for the 2nd side of the ball.

@@ManaBlack208i would have Cortez starting over TJ any game from now on. To many errors. Timings out. Kicks predictable.
