      HOONDA RR Thanks, glad you liked it. I've just released another video on the Boxster ua-cam.com/video/8xvgRXPuroE/v-deo.html. I'll post the song details under the video. I think you can download it for free also. I'd buy the Cayman but it's about personal preference.

      Just subscribed, 2005 Boxster S here, 143,000 miles. This is the best video I’ve seen regarding comments about the Boxster’s place in the Porsche line up! Awesome you can dispel all the negativity regarding the Boxster! Mine is modded with the same splitter in front and the Cayman spoiler in the rear! Looks fantastic! Plus I’ve gotten a Milltek exhaust, AASCO LWF, RSS underdrive pulley and Softronic ECU. But the Porsche short shifter is prolly my favorite, feels like a rifle bolt

    I have a 2007 987 S 3.4 for 5 years now, after a 1999 986 but it puts a smile on my face everytime I look at it, or start it up for a drive... always a fantastic experience...
    And to my opinion, better drivers car than a 996(911).

    New sub, from Canada. Enjoyed the video, honest upfront information. I had a 05 Boxster, for 2 yrs, oil service and replaced battery. Then purchased a06 Cayman S, had it for 3 yrs, oil service, brake fluid change, and battery. Just purchased a 15 Cayman S with 14,000 kms, feel like brand new. Looked at the 718 before purchasing the 15, I couldn't agree with you more about the exhaust sound.

    987s is wrongly understated and looked down upon by those who usually have never driven one and just blindly follow the sterotype or "oh could you not afford a 911" certainly not the case here.
    All that these cars need is a short shift kit as the factory gear change is pretty poor for such a good drivers car, and my personal choice Z-Rated Performance Friction pads

    • @YachtReport
      @YachtReport  7 років тому +10

      Bob Ford, short shifter makes the linkage feel like a rod linkage, not a cable, lol. Super Sport tires, Bilsteins, UD pulley, LW flywheel, Milltek, Softronic, I drank all the Kool-Aid...

    Totally agree about the Boxster being awesome. I actually have always chosen a Boxster over a 911. I love that it’s convertible, it handles as well as a 911 if not better, and the 2 boots make it more practical so I can fit the golf clubs in! I genuinely don’t know why you’d choose a 911 over a Boxster. Honestly o can’t see it at all.
    However one point I disagree on is your comments on the 718. It’s awesome. I’ve owned a Boxster in 05-08 and loved it and just bought the 718. It’s faster, more comfortable, more fuel efficient (meh lol!) and overall I think it’s fantastic. Yes the engine isn’t quite as sexy as the flat 7 but there’s far too much focus on this one aspect which isn’t as good. Overall it’s a fantastic car especially for everyday use.
    Best wishes!

    Replacing the gen one IMS bearing decreases but does not completely eliminate it failing. The only fix involves removing the outer seal on the bearing which can be done without removing it. Then replacing the access plate with one with an oil tube that continuously sprays pressurized engine oil on the bearing. You can also update your button shifter steering wheel without replacing it. There is a Porsche approved kit that attaches full sized paddle shifters where the left one down shifts while the right one up shifts. This requires an ECU re-flash which a Porsche dealer does. The kit is made by TechArt.

    Seriously considering a 987 S. have an e92 m3 and a Mazda mx5 right now, m3 is crazy fast and refined and the mx5 is just good open top fun. Think the boxster s is a middle ground between fun, performance and quality

    These 987 Boxster a absolutely brilliant. I sold my 997 C2s to release funds for other things and bought a 2.7L Boxster and I love it. It sounds great, handles great, although not as fast as the 997 it dies go well. Inside it’s the same as the 997 and underneath it uses the same components just rearranged. It’s cheap compared to a 911 so it’s a poor mans Porsche in that regard but a bargain to those in the know.

    Great video, I'm testing driving a 2007/07 3.4 S Boxster tomorrow with the view to buy. Having seen this video, I'm defiantly looking forward to my test drive. The one I'm viewing tomorrow has all the same spec as your black one excluding the sports body features but does come with the Chrono pack. Like yours it has the 19" rims and ceramic breaks. It's also in silver. Excellent review. Thanks

    • @YachtReport
      @YachtReport  7 років тому

      Family Grooves Nice. Make sure you check it well, check for dampness behind the seats, along the side of the seats and in the footwells. Blocks drainage can cause this. And there are electronics under the seat that can get damaged. Make sure you check those PCCBs for damage to the discs. Replacing one disc is over £3000. Good luck.

    I actually dont understand the guy, who went to the dealer and was like: "Hey, I want an amazing looking S, with Sport Design Pack, freaking CERAMIC Breaks, PASM, beautiful rims, BUT I'm not ordering the sports exhaust, Sport Chrono and the Sport Seat Plus."
    These options would have make this car more complete....But still a stunning car, love the look of it with all black and so on :)

    • @YachtReport
      @YachtReport  7 років тому

      Luca B. Yeah it's a curious choice. I suspect maybe the desire to have the Ceramics meant he compromised in other areas. If I was going to keep the car long term I would have had it retrofitted.

    I'm driving a 2006 BMW E85 Z4 and I seriously considered a boxster but the IMS issue just worried me to death.
    I'm more financially secure 2 years later and I think it's time to roll the dice.
    I'm thinking a 2009 987 S.
    I came close to buying a 986 a few years ago. It drove amazing but the paintwork was a bit messed up.
    A 3.4 would be amazing.

    Just got a 2008 RS60 Spyder. I think the Boxster doesn't have the reputation it deserves, thus the prices not as high as Caymans and 911s, these things are great value, specially now that the new ones are turbo 4 engines.

    • @YachtReport
      @YachtReport  7 років тому +1

      Daniel Cabral I always wanted an RS60. My first 987 that I showed the still shot was modified to look like one as at the time they were still selling for £35k in the UK which was at the time way out of my price range. I've always said that the 987 was undervalued, such a great car. Enjoy yours, my current car has a very similar spec to the RS60.

    I enjoyed this vid and your 987 is awesome and it's almost my preferred spec .... I'd choose silver. I think this is a prettier car than the gen2 as well, are the panels are identical?
    I think, more so with Boxsters', when purchasing there are that many potential pitfalls that you have to become a real boffin and you cant afford to have the spontaneity of purchase,so you lose the surprise and delight a lot. Plus you have it hanging over you that a big dint could be put in your wallet at any time.

    • @YachtReport
      @YachtReport  7 років тому +1

      Colonel Walter E. Flirts Thanks, glad you liked it. Yeah I would have preferred another colour but I bought on spec. The Gen.2 is the same body with bumper and light upgrades. Most of the upgrades on the later car were under the body (new engine, suspension, interior etc). I'd say you need to be knowledgable on any car you buy not just a Boxster. But any performance/sports cars need to be scrutinised when buying.

    I got a 05 Boxster S in Dec 05, drove it 120,00 miles, then traded for a 981 Spyder. ‘A newer Porsche is a better car but a worse Porsche.’ Now I know why they say that, it’s primarily the hydraulic steering in the 987.

    Great video. I traded in my beautiful 95' 968 for a crappy '99 986. Such an unreliable car. It frustrated me. Then in 2008 I traded that for the limited edition orange 987 boxster S. it's nicely specked. The one thing that i am happy with is the sports chrono package. Don't buy one without the sports chrono package. It opens up the exhaust and changes the mapping a bit. Plus the limited edition is said to have a few extra ponies. Dealer says 312 hp with an unconfirmed 6-10 hp on top of that. I don't know how true it is but if makes sense and it feels like it. I thank you for your review as I am focusing on buying the 718 s.
