    The only personal choice I would’ve made diffidently is the pick guard. No way I’d used the big one that goes around the pickups, nor do I care for the black tortoise shell. I would’ve shown more of that amazing paint job off with a mirrored pick guard and only for around the controls. It’s a dry cool guitar though for sure.

    Congrats Mike and Thank you very much for your very inspiring project. I was unable to see whether this is glued-on or bolt-on.
    Starting to learn all about these details ( Wiring, pots, intonation, frets, and nut etc. ) and your attention to details helped.
    Still hoping to be able to learn all about nuts & slotting, which information I find hard to find. Most will mention how important the
    nut height & slotting are, but I cannot yet figure out how to slot them, for baritones, as I use very heavy strings and super low tunings.
    StewMac I think sells them forty bucks a file, and do not carry all sizes. Thanks again, Rick, Montreal

    I'm glad you didn't fall for the "All Gibson™ hardware" meme, waste of money those things are. Ebay, Rondo and AllParts are always the best option to save money.

    It's less that one bridge is full size and the other isn't and more that they're two different styles. The included bridge is an ABR-1, the other is a Nashville. Gibson still makes both (but with 1/8" posts). I retrofit ABR Gibsons with Nashvilles precisely because of the greater intonation range, like you mentioned.

      @@DIYGuitarTalk True...the extra steps make a difference. Jack...switch...pots and good pick ups equals good tone...and less chance of failure.

    Your bridge is on backwards. You should either turn it around or if you want the intonation screws toward the tailpiece, take it apart and turn the saddles around. Either way the flat faces of the saddles should be facing the neck. Otherwise it looks good.

    • @DIYGuitarTalk
      @DIYGuitarTalk  7 років тому +3

      Hi Chuck. I have experimented with many guitars regarding saddle direction and found it actually doesn't matter which way the saddles face. Many bridges do not all face the same direction and have 3 forward (high E, B, G) / 3 back facing saddles (D, A, low E). I have never experienced any loss in tone or buzzing, etc. So my take based on my experience is forward, backward - it's OK. I positioned it the way I did to make sure I had enough room to adjust the low E saddle back for intonation. Inexpensive (DIY kits for example) are notorious for needing the low E saddle to be way back - with many adjusted right up against the bridge back plate.

    • @ryann5247
      @ryann5247 7 років тому +2

      it doesnt matter which way the screws face. its actually easier to adjust when setting up if the screws face the neck. and the saddles can be taken out and flipped. plus it doesnt matter which way they face. if you need to flip them to get just a little farther for correct intonation, its fine to do that.

    I know why you put it off...the damn neck is set too damn far into the body.
    Look at the newer gibsons/epiphone custom or Zake's W
    It's half way between a 59 and 67...
    or look at a DEAN,,the neck sticks out even further than 59
    without the cutaway being cut back
    On a possitive note...they make a flying kit .now for only $90 ( set in Neck)
    It's kind of like a 59 or epiphone less the pick guard and tail piece...
    They're get better...and smarter. They didnt pre drill bridge post or tail..
    So you can put different tails or pickguard on it.

    • @DIYGuitarTalk
      @DIYGuitarTalk  7 років тому +1

      I actually put it off because I had other guitars in the queue I was working on and the paint (by Rowyko Kustoms) was not cheap (gather up some bucks). This kit was OK... not great. All in all it came very nice and it plays well.

    • @oneeyemonster3262
      @oneeyemonster3262 7 років тому

      yes...I know. The first kit i got was like that. It costed me more money.
      The body was all wacked..but you live and learn.
      I put off building a new body for it...but I know how to build bodies
      now.lol
      ive been buying those LP set in neck for $90...they're great becuase
      The post arnt predrilled...So you can mount it more like a Gibson.
      If the tail is mounted too far back..it create string ringing like a zstar.
      Plus that how you can tell a Chibson...the tail is mounted too far back
      and the body are funkie....The bodies for these kits are just like
      epiphone....
      This way you can get an epiphone without the funkie head stock.
      i have too mnay. now.lmao..a different color for everyday.....
      They play good...i shave the neck profile to fit my hand and shave the tenon more like modern Gibson's LP..They got rid of the tenon to make it more playable. Mine actaully plays better than gibson.
      Gibson has tuning issued due to too much headstock tilt.
      You can get push/pull harnness for $10 now to split the humbuckers
      i cant complain for $100...i dont care...i rather have 10 LP that stays
      in tune...than 1 with a logo that wont stay in tune,lmao
      You know that if you wire the pot 50's style verse modern..it'll change the tone..yes??? it's brighter for 50's.
      You get switch the pins...There's video on the tube

      Another ZERO subscriber, ZERO content channel. It's like dealing with a 15 year old. Look around your life dummy is everything you own a USA product? Many brand name guitars are made in China, Indonesia, South Korea, Mexico, etc. Not the US. You need to get out more.
