It’s great to see some Suikoden content on UA-cam. Always wanted more in depth analysis and theories on a series with so much lore and characters to explore.
If only I was making videos back when Suikoden was around. I would probably end up doing a channel dedicated to just Suikoden....

Suikoden is a hidden gem just like your channel. Why do you have few subs and I'm several years late lol.
As usual, anything with Suikoden in the title get's an instant like from me.
As for the Eightfold rune and Yuber, I've had a theory about this rune for over a decade and have proposed it numerous times. Buckle up, because this is going to be long....
I believe that Yuber is not human. It's stated when he's encountered that he doesn't feel human. He's a monster conjured from the World of Emptiness, possibly by Windy as a vessel for the Eightfold rune. More specifically, he's a "mirage" monster, the type fought in Suikoden 1,2 and 3. They were summoned to the final battlefield by Windy in the first game, and summoned again by Luc in Suikoden 3. They wear the same armor and have super high evasion like Yuber. Perhaps he's an evolved version of this monster type, or perhaps possessing the true rune is what changed him.
Another thing that leads me to believe he is a summoned monster, he behaves like one. He lives for battle. He arrives when called upon, has no stake in the outcome, and when the fighting seems like it's over, he disappears to fight another day.
As for the nature of the rune itself, it gets it name from the Noble Eightfold Path, which is a Buddhist practice to reach enlightenment and peace. This directly contradicts Yuber's nature of violence and bloodshed. I believe that Yuber, not being human, has been able to overpower the will of the rune, in order to gain it's enhancements but not follow it's will or let it influence his behavior.
As a result, the rune found a way to correct it's misuse. It created Pesmerga. Pesmerga is a literal shadow of Yuber. He looks the same, only with dark hair. According to the castle detective in Suikoden 2, Pesmerga does not sleep or eat, and despite wearing what appears to be a heavy suit of armor, he moves silently. His mission is to track down Yuber and kill him, thus freeing the Eightfold Rune.

shame konami can't refer this kind of theory or enrich the lore further.. i think the pure lore-driven entry is only 1, 2, and 3 (even though 3rd felt rushed). Other entry is just a canon for the japan fan service (thus those entry isn't that good or attractive)
i'd love to see the story of pesmerga and yuber, but sadly it's konami, and konami doesn't look back...

God damn need a spoiler alert, although the time limit has passed i only got into suikoden after i got a free copy of suikoden 5 along with my ps2. so im still new to old games currently playing suikoden 2, bloody awesome game.

Yeah i wouldn't count Luc and Sasarai. They are completely different beings with eventual goals of their own. Physically, its likely that he would look similar to the two.
