In this video, we look at some of the bad habits that Alaskan Klee Kai have. These Klee Kai bad habits are things that I've noticed with my AKK. They're also reflective of conversations I've had with other Alaskan Klee Kai owners about their Klee Kai's bad habits. Having said all that, I'm sure there are some Klee Kai who only have a couple of these bad habits, don't have any of these bad habits or have completely different bad habits. I've just made this video based upon my own experience. I'd also like to qualify that separation anxiety isn't really a bad habit but I included it because I believe it's something that potential Klee Kai owners should be aware of. Copper and Skye have both suffered with varying extremes of separation anxiety. It's a chronic canine disorder that isn't a bad habit but something that they have tendency towards. OMG I saw this breed for the 1st time yesterday and fell in love. I had to put my last dog down 10 years ago and haven't wanted another until I saw the AKK's. They are absolutely beautiful!! I've had the Husky and Malamutes in the past and after watching many of your videos I've decided the AKK is perfect for me. I have 2 stray cats 3 & 5 years old that have no idea what's in store for them come spring. Thank you for sharing your videos and experience with these amazing animals.

@@Bandikitty I just got one and he is amazing around our other dogs but my cat HATES him, our cat is currently in our bathroom and wont come out, which is weird because our cat is great with our other dogs.
Same “Bad habits” as Siberian Huskies; makes sense! Love them though! After my last Siberian passed, I am now on the list to get one of these 💕

My AKK has a high prey drive. He will run after birds and sometimes run into the fence.
My AKK ran away from daycare and made it all the way home! Total escape artist.
He picks up whatever he finds. “Drop it” works well. He listens.
My pup can get very loud!! Sometimes I’m busy and he starts barking for attention.
Separation anxiety is real! We can NOT leave him alone ever. Hence the daycare. If we are busy and can’t tend to him, we have a dog sitter (usually a family member) come by and spend the day with him.

My Klee Kai Lumina (Lumie) is amazing in everything you mentioned and more. My daughter takes Lumie to her job, (grooming/daycare) and forms her own little gang and tells the other dogs what to do and not to do. It's so funny how smart she is. It is so great owning a Klee Kai, but I do hate the shedding. They are very guarded to strangers but not with children with disabilities even if they don't know them. It's like they know who to be friendly with. They are extremely intelligent and loving.
Having dogs is a real JOB! You guys love it!! You can't fool me.
I've owned 3 Schipperkes and they too have all these same 5 "Bad Habits" which makes sense since the Klee Kai was created by cross breeding different Huskies with the Schipperke. In addition, Schipperkes have a herding instinct, so they want to chase / herd children, other dogs, anything moving fast.
Copper always herds Skye, perhaps that's the Schipperke element coming through?

I have two AKK, and I’m not sure I’d call your list bad habits Per se- more like characteristics.
Bad habits to me are things like chewing your human’s leather shoes and handbags, or nipping at the plumber’s ankle or helping themselves to a bag of treats that hadn’t made it into a sealed glass jar yet..... Speaking from experience and about six pair of Birkenstock sandals later.
Agree. Bad habits are different from breed characteristics. I have a mellow and unusually quiet non-destructive "unicorn husky" who doesn't do any of the so-called negative things the husky is known to do. They are as individual we are.

You are spot on with your analysis of the AKK. However not a bad habit but the elephant in the room is the shedding! I don’t think I could put up with TWO AKK’s shedding. Don’t get me wrong, despite all her bad habits and shedding, she (my Skyler) is a wonderful companion.
Sky crosses her front paws like my Snoshu line Sibes did. My sibes of other lines didn't do that. I'm guessing the siberians used in the beginning of the breed were anadyr the one snoshu derived from. So cute. Took me back to my siberian days.
My Siberian husky crosses his feet like that all the time. I love it...their feet are so elegant.
Hello! I’m thinking of getting a Klee Kai and have been loving ur channel for the info. I raised the family dog and he was a terrier with a super high prey drive, so we got him a robotic hamster toy and it curbed the behavior a lot. He would tire himself out at home with the toy and when we went for his walks the urge was gone. Do u think that would work for the Klee kais or make the prey drive worse? (Of course every dog is diff but it worked with the terrier so unsure for a spitz breed) I understand if this may not be the best question for u but thought it wouldn’t hurt to ask! Thank you!

I Live by farms and have to be careful about managing Mika's high prey drive, but I look at in a positive light. If things get as bad as they probably are going to in this country, our dogs will be able to hunt for us.
My Siberian is especially adept at catching possums and there are those who say they're good eating when you're really hungry. He never kills them, but if I didn't have any food I would welcome the gift.

We also have 2 Klee Kais and i age with all the bad habits! I would add another bad habit of bored easily and will destroy things 😕🙃.

I have 2 full size Alaskan Huskies (3rd passed away) that have the same habits as your Klee Kai's. Do you think they're just traits inherent in most dogs?
BTW your dogs are beautiful and seem to be well behaved in spite of the habits you mention them having. I'm currently looking for breeders in my area as I would like to explore the possibility of getting a pair myself.
I think these are probably more dominant traits in husky breeds. I’ve had a few different breeds and didn’t have most of these bad habits until I got my Pomsky.

I have a quick question, my family is thinking of a AKK. My house is perfect for it, decently big and spacious. However, upstairs could potentially be a problem. Its very open, for example I have railing to separate a large drop to the first floor, I know AKKs are smart and all, but is it safe to let it upstairs and risk it falling to injury or even death. I heard the can jump really high to. Can they squeeze through tight spaces??? Thanks!
I have an Alaskan Klee Kai and as long as the space is smaller than their head you should have no problem
Just like what you said the other film, I'm sure your klee Kai are very clean dogs. I know huskies don't smell & they are very clean too. People think the huskies are very mouthy but my son's husky were very quiet. You wouldn't even know he has a dog.

Sorry to say this but Alaskan Klee Kai’s are not mini huskies. Mini Huskies are their own separate breed are usually slightly larger and heavier than Alaskan Klee Kai’s. Apart from that this is a very good explanation of the bad habits that Alaskan Klee Kai is yet or have.
Mini husky is a generic breed for a husky mixed with some spitz breed (and possibly other breeds). It’s not an official breed recognized by any kennel club because there’s no strict standard for breeding them, and there’s a variety of spitz breeds.
With that said, Klee kais are technically mini huskies, but it’s more specific to recognize Klee kais as Klee kais.
I have a mini husky (Shiba Inu 62%, husky 12%, Klee Kai 25% mix). Also my pup has all these bad habits too.
Nothing is perfect!!!
I own 2 purebred Siberian Huskies, so I could handle these. Prey drive can also be trained if you get puppies. My 2 girls live with 3 cats, but I got my huskies at 8 weeks and I had my cats before my huskies.

my alaskan klee kai is also a scavenger but he has refined taste... not just anything but the things he likes .... tampons in the trash can ... any food but only if its meat or dairy ... no veggies or carbs

About to get a Klee Kai but we have 3 smaller chihuahuas currently and I’ve seen a lot about Klee Kai’s chasing smaller dogs is this something we could train our Klee that the chihuahuas are family? Has anyone has experience with a Klee and smaller dogs? Thank you so much!
The high prey drive,the escapes the jumping over fences are all the habits of normal Huskies. At least with Klee Kai they are not big enough to drag you with them when they spot a squirrel. 🙄

So, i am thinking about getting Keel kai puppy, but not sure how they are around small children and babies.
They are known to not initially like children. Mine certainly didn't. However, now, she's not a huge fan but she can be petted and doesn't show aggression.

How well do AKK do with cats?
therese johnson they will hiss and bark at each other but they do good together. My cat messes with Alaska AKA Alaskan Klee Kai. Just train your dog well and you should be fine. I hope that helps! ❤️😇

You can get them in any country, just contact the kennel and ask if they deliver dogs worldwide. Usually it’s not a problem, they send them by the plane)
