It’s a nice machine with one other flaw other than cab heat. Slow, rough terrain is hard to drive “smooth” over in terms of the driver bouncing the throttle creating the bucking. I hate that about this sxs. It’s like an old truck in granny gear doing the huckle buck and the only thing you can do is pull foot completely off throttle pedal. Honda needs to remedy that.
Thanks man , I appreciate it. Those Yamaha's are nice too. Funny you mentioned the deer hauler they just recently got a hold of me about doing a video with them. Hopefully we are hooking up for a hog hunt and show case the hauler. Thanks for the comment abd watching. Have fun and be safe

I had a RZR 900 XC for a couple years but the CVT was driving me crazy. Very loud and I couldnt pull people out of the mud or drag logs off the trail without smelling burnt belt. Is the DCT in the Honda quiet? I still have my 95 Honda 300 4x4 as well and I love how quite it is, but I want the roll cage for my wife and kids. Only went with the RZR initially because my wife liked it better. Thanks for the great video!
I have heard people say that there pioneer is loud when it shifts but mines not that loud and doesn't bother me at all. Now when i first got my pioneer i noticed it clicked hard when it shifted but it's quieter now. If your wanting reliability and less maintenance issues, then you can't go wrong with a honda . You being a 300 fourtrax owner tells you that though. lol. I swear my pioneer is like a tank in the woods and pulls like a truck when working. Thanks for watching and hope this helped in your decision.
Caleb Shores Thank you, mines a factory Honda roof. It’s held up really good and I have been caught in the rain during some down pours. Never leaked! A lot of people chop the tops on there pioneers and run a low profile roof to help in getting them in enclosed trailers or they just like the look. it’s just a idea but you could check forums , Craigslist or Facebook marketplace to see if you can get a take off. Just a thought. Thanks for watching
It did help in my decision to buy Honda. Can you show the jumping you are talking about. I’ve heard other guys talk about that and was just wondering why it does that. Looks like you have about 25k in that one. It’s a Cadillac. I really like it. Also you said it css as n be put on the Highway. Do you have a tag or just a permit sticker and talk about the insurance a little. It would help us out to know that stuff. Thanks
Glad the video helped in some way on your purchase. You will be pleased on your purchase! On the street legal part. I Have turn signals, Horn and tag which covers all the requirements to be street legal. Its for a medium speed tag so I'm not supposed to have it on any road that is 45 mph or faster. Just 45mph and lower... Yes i Have some money tied up in my pioneer.lol. I tell people its my hillbilly Cadillac. I will do a video on the medium speed tag and insurance policy. Also on the jumping that usually happens when your in some ruts and your foot bounce off the pedal due to rough terrain by im going to be dropping a video on a solution for that also. Please feel free to keep us posted on your machine and what other topics you would like us to cover.
My uncle has a 2006 teryx. He uses it every day on the farm and a friend of mine has one also. good machines! Congrats on your purchase. Thanks for watching.
I recently sold my Kawasaki Mule which I liked a lot and used much more for work. The reason I sold it was I was using it to mow with a tow behind mower. Apparently the Mules don't do well going that slow and it was knocking a sensor out of whack. So, I am looking at a Pioneer 700-4. Do you have any information on using those at long term slow speeds especially since they don't have h/l. Thanks!
I have used mules and gators on the job site and they both are good machines. We have a 2018 honda pioneer 700 at our work and actually the low speed works very well on pulling the weed sprayer but i have not tested it pulling a mowing attachment. I think it would do fine because the 1000 dont have a problem pulling in anyway but keeping it between 5 to 8 mph can be a struggle even in low because it has a sensitive pedal. uphills is perfect but down hill and curves can get a little fast. The 700 doesn't seem to do that as bad on downhill runs. Hope this helps and thanks for watching
Thanks, about to buy but none in the showroom. Have two teenage boys 6 for and 6 foot two, do you think they can manage in back? Is 5th seat only in front?
It’s a little tight back there. The biggest issues is there legs. The seats sit low and puts your knees up at a angle. Boat cushions work well and pur pro makes some seat cushions that work really well for that issue. If it’s a long ride they will get uncomfortable real quick without a cushion.
Yes they love riding in the pioneer but I would have to say I get some complaints from heat at there feet in the hot days of summer. The heat shield kit helped but wasn’t a fix for the rear passengers. The have never complained about the seats but a lot of people are using boat cushion for extra padding on long rides or rough trails.
Hello, actually it is a problem on the Honda pioneer 1000-5. Mine is a lot better after adding the DEI heat shield kit. My daughters ride in the back when we are checking traps or trail cameras and the feet area can get hot-at low speeds. No issues while driving at a normal or higher rate of speed. I have actually been looking at making a some heat shields for the bed. Hopefully that video is coming soon. The main reason I like the pioneer is the reliability and it doesn’t have a belt. Check out my video on the heat shield kit. Let me know if you have any other questions and keep me posted on what you end up getting.
Congrats on your purchase!! You will love it! I got my seat covers from amazon. I actually have another video of the install on my channel that has the item number in the description. Let me know if you find it or need help locating it. Thanks for watching
Just bought a 2016 with a lot of upgrades. Portals, lift, and a bunch of other stuff. I’m installing the DEI kit this week because my wife cooked in it when I brought it home and now she thinks I’m stupid. How much heat reduction did you get from the DEI kit!
Congrats on your purchase. Sounds like you got a major upgraded machine. The DEI kit cut the cabin heat more than half of what it was without it. My wife would burn up when we would ride on the deer lease or on trail riding. In the last few years she hasn’t had any issues. It’s a must . You will see a major difference.
@@jasonwatson5292 I haven't put much thought into it on mine.. I know some guys that have changed there exhaust and they said it made a jump in performance but was a lot louder. I don't know how much it might mess with sensors without having a tune
Have you ever had to adjust the diff lock cables? I have a 2020 and it's not right, dealer said it was fine but I have owned Honda for over 20 years And had to make minor adjustments like this before
No i haven't had any issues with my 2018 yet. I have heard of people having issues and having to adjust them but mine has been fine and it sees diff lock a lot with me pulling trees out of the way on trails and retrieving deer in rough areas. Thanks for the inquiry and thanks for watching. Let me know if you find a solution please. That way we can inform others.
@@pineylife The Richmond Honda dealership contacted my wife and said they didn't find any problems with it being out of adjustment, so we are having to pay an hour shop labor, but it shouldn't take 250 yards for it to shift into 2 wheel posi, factory specs state 1/4 turn of the rear tire to engage and disengage..I called Honda directly and that's what the factory specs state..
@@TheDavecali64That's a pretty bad service department to charge you labor when there has to be a issue with the diff or the cables. i always put mine in neutral and shift into diff lock. Then put it in low. My pioneer wont roll a tire a complete turn before engaging same on disengaging. Honda told you right on the factory specs.

@@pineylife I bought these www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08DKJMYVH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but they were on the tight side, no room to put the sponge pads, i broke one bracket trying to put the bolt through and damaged the roll bar paint :(
@@MasterRobinHood I actually had the same brackets and they worked on the back rollbar good but i had the same issue with the second set. When you bend them wide enough to get over the bar then they wont line up right. I'm in search of better clamps.
@@pineylife It does seem that Pioneer frame is slightly larger than standard 1.75 inch. Actually what solved my issue was just to buy slightly narrower, longer stainless steel bolts. (Think they were standard 1/4 inch carriage bolts) Because the clamps now didn't completely close, the secondary ear bracket rattled a bit because of the small gap. A very short piece of fuel tubing on each side of the secondary bracket with the bolt running through it fixed that and looks great. Will update how it behaves on the really bumpy trails, but sure seems solid! Thanks for responding!
@@MasterRobinHood Thanks for the heads up. Actually i was shooting a video last night on the brackets and mirror. I disassembled mine and got the new sammanlite brackets in 1.750. opened them up to fit around the roll cage and once i tried to reinstall the bolt through the main bracket it wouldn't line up so i ran out of time. I will get some narrow carriage bolts and try that. If i finish the video and post it i will give you props on it. Thanks for the info
The 1000 seats three in the front because of the bench seat and then the other 2 seats are flip up seats in the bed. They just fold down when you need to haul something in the dump bed and then you can flip them back up for passengers.
Do these do pretty good for trail riding recreational use? I’m looking for something the family could all ride trails together in. Can it handle roughly terrain?
Mine has done extremely well trail riding and i have had it in some pretty bad spots retrieving deer. The manual shift mode is a plus in rough terrain and dif lock works good for that also. @@ericc1599 Just happened to cross this Piney post on his Honda 5. My Honda 5 has been everything I could ask for in a SXS. Problems have been minimal. There was a problem with the clutch when new, and replaced by Honda. Honda actually sent factory tech support to evaluate the clutch and fix. No problems since. Also a common problem with the Pioneers was misaligned front ends from the factory. Excessive front tire wear almost immediately. Dealer fixed, and have had not unusual tire wear since. The Honda dealer also installed a Honda heat kit that made a huge difference. I also purchased from Menards a roll of 1/2 inch flex bubble insulation, cut out a piece and installed under removable seat. This also makes a real big difference. Note: I remove in the winter for the engine heat. Now have about 3,500 miles, and would only consider a Honda in the future if the need be. NEVER EVER AGAIN will I own a Polaris or a Can Am. I have the p500 in camo for hunting and ice fishing but my next purchase is the 1000 5 seat. Where I live the trails are super tight which is why I will be keeping the p500 for hunting. And the 1000 is gonna be for main trail riding with the wife and dogs. Funny thing is the wife suggested the 1000 because we have two Bernese mounted dogs and they go every where with us lol. She don’t have to twist my arm in this purchase lol

Mine has 4300 miles off road never had a problem 2016 still on 1st battery ( knock on wood)
That's impressive. Hard to beat a Honda. Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching.
I like your comparison to a old truck and your exactly right. The jumping is a real problem. Honda needs to come up with a remedy. Thanks for watching

I like how you say Yamahaow. Jk...I think Im going to get a Honda Pioneer too. I have 3 kids.
Lol. My southern accent can be pretty thick at times... You will love the pioneer and so will your kids... I love the flip up seats in the back for passengers and if the kids are real small you can get a boat seat (flotation square pillow) for them to sit on and they can see plus still be buckled up.
Back seat review thanks
Coming soon! I will add it to the list . Thanks for the request.
Love the videos keep it up. What kind of roof did you get i am in need of one
Looked at these for a while but decided I liked the seats in the back better in the Teryx. Waiting for mine arrive in the next few weeks
Mine came from the factory out of Alignment also
That seems to be the issue with most of the pioneers. Its crazy that they cant get it right. Thanks for watching and commenting.
How do your kids feel about riding in the back seats? Are they comfortable?
Yes they love riding in the pioneer but I would have to say I get some complaints from heat at there feet in the hot days of summer. The heat shield kit helped but wasn’t a fix for the rear passengers. The have never complained about the seats but a lot of people are using boat cushion for extra padding on long rides or rough trails.
Hi, I'm look purchase a side by side. I hear that these Hondas are too hot for back seat passengers. What is your thought on this? An issue or not?
Like the video. Just purchased a 1000. Where did you get the seat covers?

What’s your opinion about removing the catalytic converter?

Do you remember where you got the brackets to hang your rally mirror? I'd be curious to see what you came up with
Yes i got them from amazon. 1.750 diameter roll bar clamp with adjustable brackets. I will be doing a video with link soon.
Looks like it seats 2 people, where do the other 3 sit?
The 1000 seats three in the front because of the bench seat and then the other 2 seats are flip up seats in the bed. They just fold down when you need to haul something in the dump bed and then you can flip them back up for passengers.
Do these do pretty good for trail riding recreational use? I’m looking for something the family could all ride trails together in. Can it handle roughly terrain?
Mine has done extremely well trail riding and i have had it in some pretty bad spots retrieving deer. The manual shift mode is a plus in rough terrain and dif lock works good for that also. We have park here that's called windrock park. My pioneer has held up really good with 4 people and cooler and gear on the carry all. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

Any idea if Honda has done anything about the cabin heat in newer models?
As far as I know they haven't made any changes at all from 2018 thru 2021. I don't think they will do much heat insulation under the seat due to it being in the way of maintenance.
I’m pretty sure Honda did a recall on this issue....might be a silent one tho...which means u hav to tell a dealer about the problem to hav it fixed! The put a big pc of rubber under the front seat. I saw it on a cpl other UA-cam videos....worth checking out!
You can wear a trailer out just hauling them back and forth from the dealer, not to mention the HORIBLE customer service you experience.
