Great video!! I can't lie.... I googled "Leica Q2 Mini" as soon as you said the words.... Totally got me HAHA!!! For real though, that little camera looks sweet and is continued proof that you don't need the newest camera to take great images. Good glass is important, but so are solid skills and recognizing good light. I want one of those GM1's now!.....
I had the GM1 and really enjoyed it, until the power/shutter button just broke for some unknown reason. They’re great cameras but very flimsy build, and I think their very small size exacerbates the likelihood to break.
I have one green GM5 and 4 GM1 in different colors (I bought them cheap at Second hand) and a couple of Leica lenses. I love this little cameras. I was completely fooled that a Leica q2 mini would go on sale. I also started googling. Lol. During Christmas, I have been thinking about selling off all my M43 equipment. But now I regretted it. So tomorrow I will take it out and take some nice pictures with it!
Completely second that. In fact it's a little bit depressing how Fuji always seems to get all the glory. I've been using m43 for 8 or so years. It's such an underrated format for street photography.
When I once worked for a while in the photo department at media markt, I once compared an MFT camera with a Sony A7 including Zeiss lens :D neither the staff nor the Sony promoter guessed correctly which camera took which picture. Unfortunately, MFT is often labeled as having too small a sensor.
In 2017, I owned a GM 5 with the Olympus 45mm 1.8..Color rendition was amazing with this kit. Looking back at the pictures, I am still blown out by the quality.
The Panasonic 20mm 1.7 and Panasonic GX8 used to be my digital camera for street, it's a good combo, but closer in size to the Q2. 20MP and 40mm equivalent. If Leica would make a Q2 with a 40mm lens instead of 28mm I would never need another camera...
@@Tudor_Mateescu Yeah for sure ive been waiting for years for a leica Q with a 35 or 40mm lens. The 28 is just too wide for me on the Q , its also more of a 24MM look
I don't own the 15mm, but I often stick the GM1 in the back alongside the 14mm f/2.5 or the Olympus 17mm f/1.8, sometimes also the 45mm. Great little system!
I wouldn’t mind seeing you try out the pen f. Olympus has better colors than Panasonic and the pen f is still the most beautiful digital camera from a company not named Leica. It costs a premium these days and I can’t say the performance is substantially different from the gx9 but it is lust worthy. I moved out of m43 withe thxs10 and xe4 because I already had a full Fuji lens setup, but I had a hard time letting go of my pen f.
May I suggest the OLYMPUS PEN E-P7. It’s tiny! It has better autofocus than all of them! And it has fantastic IBIS. Only problem is it’s only being sold in Japan so you probably have to get one on EBay
That was fun! I have MFT cameras and lenses. If you put the Panasonic 14mm f2.8 or the Panasonic 20mm f1.7, it will be quite a compact set-up that can really fit in your pocket.
Oh this was so much better than another M11 video! So sad that Panasonic abandoned the GM line. A modern GM with USB charging and minimum shutter speed would be a dream come true. The 14mm f/2.5 and 20mm f/1.7 would provide solid alternatives to the GR3 family (and no dust issues-just clean it off!)
Using mft camera since quite a while now. As long as you don’t expect great low light performance, this size of sensor is doing a perfect job. As a camera to take anywhere any time I have a similar setup as you, gx800 (small body with 16 mp sensor) and an Olympus pancake 17m f2.8 lens. Perfect for quick family snaps.
Mitchell is great photographer and photo journalist. Because of his videos and his courses, I purchased GX85 and Leica 15mm F1.7. I still use this combo as street photography camera. Unless Lumix releases much improved GX10, I will stick with GX85 + Leica 15mm combination.
That was what MFT was all about. I regret selling my EM10 mk2. I had for a while with the 25mm f1.8. I just didn't give it enough time. I got the A6400 which hasn't got a single decent compact 24 to 40mm native lens. Perhaps when the price of the GX9 drops further, I will get it with the Leica 15.
I went through a similar "camera journey" and ended up selling my Nikon D600 and most of my Nikon lenses when my first son was born. I ended up buying the Panasonic GX80 with the Panasonic Leica 15 mm and I use it for 90% of my photography. When lugging around baby stuff, you don't want to carry a bulky camera.
Hehe yes, it's smaller than GR but with any attached lens you can't put it in your jeans pocket. Btw I got to myself another mint condition GRii instead of the first and broken also GRii - don't think of changing it to anything.
I recognized the GM1 right away (I used to own it!) but I enjoyed your humorous intro! I'm glad to see you're finding out how fast, small and capable micro four thirds cameras and lenses can be, they are surprisingly good, even though they get so little credit! Now, see if you can find a good deal on the Panasonic 20mm f1.7 and try that 40-equivalent and see how you like it compared to the GR IIIx. It's a legend of a lens in the M4/3 community. It focuses slow, because the motor moves the whole assembly, so maybe not great for street (though I've done it a lot), but the optics are so pleasing and the focal length is so great. I think you'd love it for family shots! Right now I have both the 20/1.7 (on an Olympus EM5III) and the GR IIIx, and I love both of these 40mm equivalents!
Haha, you got me fooled! :D My favourite combo is GF7 or some other MFT camera with Lumic 20 F1.7 lens, but Fuji's XF10 is also awesome at street photography.
I remembered your friend Leo reviewed this gm1 some time ago and mentioned there’s a 14mmf2.5 lens (that’s 28mm fullframe then). I have 2 compact cameras ( the fujifilm x70 & leica X2)and that’s enough - at least for now :P
Haha you had me fooled and I own a lovely Pana Leica 15mm f1.7 lens 😲 Glad you enjoyed using M43 camera's, shame you didn't fall in love with the fab little rangefinder style GX9. Great video.
I did enjoy the GX80 more. I expected to like the GX9 much more but the GX80 felt more ergonomic to me. I also didn't like the stiff EV dial on the GX9. But both are good cameras. Just didnt like the color science unfortunately.
@@SamuelStreetlife I agree the EV dial on gx9 top plate is horrible so I re assigned it to same button as GX80 .. the one on the back above the thumb grip. Oddly I far prefer the GX9 ergos including bigger thumb grip & tilting evf to the GX80 which I sold after a couple of weeks. The only thing in the GX80's favour for me is it not having a crop in 4k mode. I now have the GX9 & G9.
In a pool of M11 filled content this video was the only one that felt wholesome and fun to watch! Such a great video man, really goes to show that you don’t need a fancy top notch or “it must be nice” sorta gear to make great pictures. The absolutely beautiful sample photos you showed really proves that further. Thank you so much Sam, watching this video really cheered me up and made me feel good about the fact that I can’t afford a M11 as it’s not necessary to make good pictures. Gratitude 🤍💯
I had a little orange GM1, which was wonderful, but I needed an EVF, so I sold it and got a GM5. I've had the GM5 now since 2016, and I never plan on selling it. I do also have other M43 and FF bodies, but no matter what else I get, that little GM5 is going to stay with me. I have to admit to some hope that Panasonic would reintroduce it with one of their 20MP sensors, as it's a real gem of a camera, but if not, at least I still have my GM5 :) When I want to go out with a tiny kit, and family shots, nothing beats it. And, people think it's really cute, so they don't freeze up around it when you are taking photos. I'm glad there are other photographers out there who value its charm and capabilities, too.
The ergonomy of M43 is the most atractive aspect of the system. I suggest you try out the panaleica 25mm 1.4. Robust, render gorgeous images. Also try out olympus pen-f or the em5 series (i personaly love the em10 mk iii, in terms of bang for buck. But the em5 is weather sealed)
I had a GX80, but was a bit flimsy, so changed to a GX8 which is a beast, comfy, great costumisability, with the biggest EVF ever. Paired with the Lumix 14mm f2.5 lens it's a small and fun setup. Also has an Olympus M5 mark ii with an Oly 17mm f1.7, which has a funky clutch manual focus ring with end-points. Both cameras are weather sealed and magnesium alloy bodied, and can close the screen and use only the EVF to avoid chimping. Sadly there is no weather sealed, small prime option :/
My primary camera is an X-Pro2 but I love my Olympus E-PL8. I can pack my MFT camera with 4 to 5 lenses in a tiny bag, including a 300mm telephoto mirror lens. The Panasonic 14mm F2.5 is small and fun.
The rollercoaster of emotions in this video... excited - googled the fake camera, laughter/annoyed - haha you got me!, nostalgia - I moved away from m/43 because of the GR and this channel. I've been pining over the GM1 and GM5. The Oly EM-10 was a great beginners camera and the lenses are really affordable. M/43 made photography accessible and fun to experiment. Play with the olympus primes, you'll love it! 25mm and 17mm 1.8s have never let me down. Then there is the rabbit hole of sigma lenses........... photography gas is endless....
"That has to be a M43 body surely" was my initial impression when you pulled it out of the box! They do look surprisingly similar, so you did get me going for a moment as I initially didn't recognize it as a Lumix. My initial interchangeable lens camera was an Olympus OMD E-M10 Mark II. Lovely camera for it's price class, although it doesn't see that much use since I got into the Fujifilm X series. Tempted to get another M43 eventually though! If just to mess around with the plethora of lenses they offer.
I loved this video. 1st, you really had me going. 2nd, even after it was such an engaging review -- different than what everyone else is doing. I hope you continue to play with less common combinations like this in the future. Well done.
Nice little camera. Actually I used the X-E3 the same way and later the X-T1 because it's weather sealed. Still my X100V took over in most situations and the X-Pro3 is there whenever I need a pro camera. I just got tired of compromises 🤪 and decided to make cutbacks. Anyway thanks for sharing and your son looks very happy!
I started with the LUMIX GX85 a few years ago. I wanted a Leica but couldn’t really justify it and couldn’t find one in my budget. I found a GM-1 a few months later and picked up both the Leica designed 15mm and 25mm lenses because they were faster than the Panasonic lenses. Plus the Leica 15mm has an aperture dial. While I still like both cameras I eventually found an M8 and and M9 that were within my budget and use those and a Ricoh GXR with the : mount module a million times more than the Panasonic cameras.
Very interesting video! Thank you very much! Now I will dream of such a set for family photography. I really want more information about this camera, and more examples of photos!) What do you think about the 4/3 matrix?
Oh man. Such a nice vid and a nice idea and concept! Respect for the dedication for the joke. Happy you got caught and share it, it is very tempting. And have to admit, it's a cute little guy let's be honest!
That's full of surprise. 😆 I first thought you gonna show us the M11, then you pull out a small camera. I thought you're still kidding until you actually talking about it lol
🤣 you gave us a clue at the beginning when you first pulled out the baby toy. I did notice and wonder why if it is the same lens, the Q2 mini lens is smaller? Nice creative video man. Thanks
Really enjoyed this vid! Olympus Pen-F digital is another awesome M4/3 body. Bigger than the GM1 but they compliment each other, and imo it's gorgeous. I use the Pana/Leica 25mm 1.4 with the Pen-F. A Lumix 20mm f.7 is married to my GM1 :D
Just discovered your channel and I love what you're doing ! Thanks ❤️

haha , nice video. thats my secondary combo as well. dji 15mm is same lens with better coating and cheeper price if you find it. penf+zuiko 17mm & gm1+summilux 15mm is my 2 street photography gear....
I have the GM5 with the 15mm 1.7. Such a great combo (similar to your GM1 of course). I also love the panny leica 25mm 1.4 lens. You may want to give it a try if you ever want to shoot something a little longer. I enjoyed your video. Thank you.
I have one green GM5 and 4 GM1 in different colors (I bought them cheap at Second hand and a couple of Leica lenses. I love this little cameras. So tomorrow I will take out the equipment and take pictures with it!
I just started watching your channel, first was the 7 reasons you’re selling the Q2. Of course, I was curious what you were buying next! Then I just began watching the comparison between your Q2 and mini…I thought you sold that Q2???
My goto for this kind of size/use is the Samsung NX3000 with their 30mm f/2. It's APS-C and about the size (well, other than depth) as the GR's. The JPG's are pretty good out of it, but I mainly shoot raw, and I love the tilty screen, especially since it flips all the way up in "selfie mode" and automatically turns on the camera when you do this. I've shown people files from it next to my Leica and my sd Quattro and other than the Quattro's insane tonality and detail most people can't tell the difference between all three at the same equivalent aperture.
I prefer the E-PM2 over the smallish Panasonic bodies. Reason? Olympus has better colors. The E-PM2 has IBIS and a touch screen with very responsive touch focus. With the Olympus 17mm f1.8 you get snap focusing because the lens has a manual focus clutch with a distance scale. I got the Leica 15mm too, I use it on a GX85.
OMG you bonkers man - you totally had me ! I was delighted because I really rate Panasonic Lumix micro four third cameras and was horrified at how slow the Ricoh GR111 was to focus compared to them (although I have yet to get to grips with snap focus). I must have missed it but congratulation on the mini me.
You inspired me to get the GM5. I’ve always wanted to get one, but felt like it was too expensive at the time and I was able to find a good deal on one from KEH. Now I’m debating on getting that 15mm lens 😅. I wish the GR had the same fast autofocus as the mft tho.
You almost got me 😂 Have fun with your new camera. Mft is a nice system. I also considered it for the family - time, but... I know myself. If I buy a system, that can use different lenses, I will buy different lenses and then I have a second system (again). So I bought the GR. III and am enjoying it (although I think about the 'X' with a 40mm equivalent... Why are there always other cameras?).
Hey you found my secret. I was looking at some old photos a few months ago and when I picked out one that I really liked the colors it was from my old GM5. I had been trying to find a very small carry around setup. So I bought the Panasonic 14mm 2.5 lens very cheap which is my present small carry around setup. But now I will have to try the 15mm.

This is the announcement we've all been waiting for

LOL, you had me in the beginning. GX80 ordered :D
While I still like both cameras I eventually found an M8 and and M9 that were within my budget and use those and a Ricoh GXR with the : mount module a million times more than the Panasonic cameras.
great video .... You had me too ... Well done !
I like the 4/3 I have a GX8 and I love !
Very interesting video! Thank you very much! Now I will dream of such a set for family photography. I really want more information about this camera, and more examples of photos!) What do you think about the 4/3 matrix?
this is more exciting than the leica m11 for sure.
I'm glad I stayed sceptical about the Leica Q2 Mini in the beginning 😂
Oh man. Such a nice vid and a nice idea and concept! Respect for the dedication for the joke. Happy you got caught and share it, it is very tempting. And have to admit, it's a cute little guy let's be honest!
Great video Samuel - so funny :-) I still enjoy the old GF-1. Small, compact and fun to use. Keep up the great work!
That's full of surprise. 😆
I first thought you gonna show us the M11, then you pull out a small camera.
Samuel bester Mann. Genau zum M11 Launch 😂
Hi Samuel, I'm glad that you are discovering 4/3!! You should try Olympus 4/3 cameras sometime... you won't be disappointed!! 👍
You should try the Leica D-Lux series cameras. KILLER cameras and they are small but powerful.
Is m43 coming back? Loved that format.
This was incredible. I honestly believed it all the time and fell for it. Also, those images are amazing! Thank your for this.
I have the GM5 with the 15mm 1.7. Such a great combo (similar to your GM1 of course). I also love the panny leica 25mm 1.4 lens. You may want to give it a try if you ever want to shoot something a little longer. I enjoyed your video. Thank you.
You mentioned trying the other panasonic bodies, but didn't like the colors as much as the gm1. Maybe try the GX7. It has the same sensor as the GM1.
I have one green GM5 and 4 GM1 in different colors (I bought them cheap at Second hand and a couple of Leica lenses. I love this little cameras. I was completely fooled that a Leica q2 mini would go on sale. I also started googling. Lol. During Christmas, I have been thinking about selling off all my M43 equipment. But now I regretted it. So tomorrow I will take out the equipment and take pictures with it!
Haha, nice! They are all so cute and powerful it is hard to let them go :)
It must be nice. Strong work on this video! Thanks for doing this work!
It is nice :) Hehe, thanks Clint!!
Great title, hooked me right away.. 🙃
I think a Q2 Mini is a good concept, especially if it has a pancake lens.
OMG you bonkers man - you totally had me ! I was delighted because I really rate Panasonic Lumix micro four third cameras and was horrified at how slow the Ricoh GR111 was to focus compared to them
(although I have yet to get to grips with snap focus). I must have missed it but congratulation on the mini me.
I literally knew it was a 15mm Panasonic because I also own it but somehow you got me lol
You inspired me to get the GM5. I’ve always wanted to get one, but felt like it was too expensive at the time and I was able to find a good deal on one from KEH. Now I’m debating on getting that 15mm lens 😅. I wish the GR had the same fast autofocus as the mft tho.
Did you consider lumix lx100 with fixed lens?
Yes I did a few years ago. Interesting camera but not what I was looking for at that time.
I also use the canon g7x for miscallenaous snap shooting or if I just want a camera in my pocket if I see fun moments to capture with friends
😂😂😂 you got me. There is lovely tones from it. Who says gear doesn’t matter
Wait I thought the Q2 was gone? You finally kept it?
Great review! I started to google Q2 mini…now that would be great!
Samuel get the first x100 for your personal and family work, shoot jog, save money and brother happy 👍🏻
You almost got me 😂
Have fun with your new camera.
Nice video as always!!
Smaller sensors need more light 😎
