    When I was a newborn, a mentally ill woman snatched me out of my mother's arms at a grocery store. She was screeching that I was hers. Finally the person who came with her, heard the commotion and had her give me back to my mother. Now that I have a daughter, I am very aware of the people around us in public.

    • @LukjanovArt

      This was a massive fear of mine with my newborn, he's now two years old and I still find myself panicking in the supermarket and pulling him close to me when he's in the trolley, or always holding on to him even though he's right in front of me

      In the early 90's, a person attempted to kidnap my cousin from grocery store in PA. He was sitting in the cart, my aunt was looking at meat and was turned, someone rolled the cart away. They abandoned him after the alarm was raised. So scary.

      Stuff like this is why I get mad at stories where parents let their kids wander off or they are aware of them being followed when their kids are with them but they don't ask for help. I just heard a story of a woman who let two men follow her and her kids all over a mall and didn't tell anyone for a long time. In the end, she sent the _kids_ to find security, not her. Those men could have snatched them and ran out.

  • @SNixon14
    @SNixon14 2 роки тому +93

    Wow, story 8, I certainly wasn't expecting that. I am so glad that their friend lived but hearing everything that happened to her is just alot and so horrible. I am so glad that they caught one of the men who were involved in her kidnapping and that he's serving his time, I really hope he rots in his jail cell. And I hope that karma won't be kind to the other men who were involved. What OP said is correct, be careful when you are out partying or going to a bar, no matter if you are male or female, go with friends, friends you trust that is, so something like what happened in this story doesn't happen to you or anyone else. OP's friend is very luck to be alive and I like that she's trying to help others who have been in a similar situation.

      Yea, agreed. I always hated the fact that I had no friends or anyone who would invite me to parties with strangers when I was younger. How dumb I was to not realize it’s a blessing in disguise. 😂 Honestly I don’t think it’s worth the risk. I’m glad the person in that story was not only a survivor but is also able to help coach others who are victims of similar evil in this world.

    Story 8 shattered my heart. I’ve said this a million times before and I’ll say it again; people who commit sex crimes of any nature deserve to get a special kind of STD that can’t be cured, treated, or transmitted, and kills them slower and more painfully than any other.

    As an Indian, the first story's second half didn't shock me, I am terribly sorry you had to face the roberry though. New Delhi has a lot of scam cases for foreigners and Karl Rock and other vloggers have covered that a lot. But talking about the second part, police in most cases do end up getting brutal only with people who have an official or unofficial prior history of criminal behaviour, they also tend to go over the board for foreigners as embassies and higher authorities can get involved if the case is not solved so.

    I live in New Delhi and I'd like to say that you're right to feel disturbed by the first one but please, it's a ugly sad truth that things are different, very very different in this part of the world. That incident discription at that police station is way more common than you think it is. Poverty is a big problem and majority of the population lives in it. To chock it up to mere cultural difference is probably the easiest way to put it. But please, don't let that affect your views towards India in a major way. We have a saying that translates to " guests are god" and most of us take it very very seriously. Many locals can speak English ranging from elementary level to very much fluent in it. India is a beautiful country with dangers of itself which can be easily kept at bay if one is simply aware enough because to many slum people like those kids, an American or any foreign looking person Is a target.

    • @MirrenTheDragonKnight
      @MirrenTheDragonKnight 2 роки тому +12

      No matter where, no matter when, poverty does not excuse theviery.
      Besides, the boys assaulted the woman on top of taking some of her most vital possessions. Let us not forget they heartlessly took the risk of blinding the woman.
      They experienced the same emotional and physical pain the woman suffered. The experienced discipline.

      @@MirrenTheDragonKnight *But that does not excuse the abuse of children.* In *any* country. (How do you know, anyway, that their no doubt impoverished and possibly criminal parents did not force them into this? Or that they weren't in the clutches of some gang? India needs better social services; and all its middle classes and upper classes need to pay tax! 😡)
      *There are international treaties on the rights of the child; and India is a signatory.* If that story is 100% true, then that woman was both wrong and cowardly, in her reaction to the situation. She should have at the very least called her embassy, and asked for advice as to how she could both report and complain about this incident of police brutality. 👎

    • @oneoflokis
      @oneoflokis 2 роки тому +1

      Thank you for saying this! 🙂👍
      I must say, I *was* a little taken aback, as to how the story developed. I know that one must be on the lookout for crime, in any foreign city, but I had no idea that young, pre-teen, (junior school age?) poor children could pose a genuine threat. (I have seen and enjoyed the movie Slumdog Millionaire, and thought they might be a little more like that..🙂)
      My mother was from Poland, and used to tell me the odd story, that some gypsies in Poland used to play "tricks" like that in the old days - faceful of pepper! (Robbers too used to use pistols with it in.) Or - this happened to my grandmother - they'd spit in a circle and make like they were putting a gypsy curse on you, if you didn't give them what they wanted!
      But I didn't know kids in India were up to those kinds of tricks!
      😏
      Anyway. Both this presumably true incident, and the movie Slumdog Millionaire, have convinced me that what India needs is a) a proper, free, compulsory state school system (as they have in China) b) a proper tax system that gets some wealth back from the rich, and c) a proper social services system. And no more brutal police. See my comment below.

    I'm gonna be honest, during story 8 when I heard "Aurora" I thought a tragedy surrounding a screening of a certain movie was going to be involved. And honestly, it's terrifying that I can't reason which would be worse. At least the girl in this story thankfully survived her ordeal, but at the same time she survived with the memories of...THAT...even with being able to go back to her normal life that's gonna stick with her forever. I hope she's been able to overcome that trauma, and I'm just glad it sounds like she's been able to make steps toward doing so.

She was begging for help and all he could do was stand and stare. He couldn't even get the make and model or the license plate! I'm not saying it's his fault because the guys that took her and hurt her are the real monsters in that story but he could've saved that poor girl from unimaginable horror if he would've stepped up instead of being a coward and just letting them snatch her up again...

    putting aside the debate of whether or not to spare the rod and spoil the child, i think an important point about the first story is that it’s ridiculous to travel to a different country - in a different continent! - and expect to encounter the same morals, experiences, values, ways of life, culture, etc., as what you are familiar with back home. and it’s more than a little bit ignorant to be “shocked and horrified” at these differences which are literally just the product of geographical and historical differences

    Am I the only one who doesn’t feel even a bit sorry for the kids who stole that girl’s things? Stealing is one of those human laws you do not break, unless you’re ready for the punishment. I understand they’re poor and may not have ways to make money, but they tried so scam the girl, then blew chili powder into her face and finally stole her valuables. They’re lucky they don’t live in the Middle East or somewhere in Africa where they still take limbs for stealing. Let that be their life lesson. Don’t ever steal, no matter how hard your life may be.

    #2: i believe the officer was not threatening you, but warning you your situation could have been so much worse! With you blind, suppose those boys weren't satisfied with just robbing you? Suppose they'd been approached by men & told who to target, grab what they could as quickly as they could, then leave swiftly & don't look back. With you blinded, so many horrible things come to mind don't they? Perhaps a little... attitude adjustment for the lad & his buddies is not such a horrible thing?

    That co2 story is so scary and sad, to lose nearly all of your family members on one night, to the father who may have had to choose between his two kids to save. (Unless the other was already gone ) not to mention how he got ahold of the grandfathers(the story tellers) mask

    The one with the poison lake really messed me up. I thought I was listening to an account of chemical warfare in Syria or some other man-made catastrophe. I'm shocked that the animals couldn't get away, but from what I understand about the lake is that it was at the top of a volcano and essentially the volcano burped.. such a simple and horrifying explanation.. I felt like I was listening to a description of someone fleeing Sodom and Gomorrah.. the likelihood that the narrator and his father were able to get out alive at all is definitely a statistical impossibility of biblical proportions. I can't believe I've never heard of this. Thanks for the inclusion.
