@@BallerinasByNight If it were me....and it won't be because I already run 2 web-sites and I'm afraid of my sewing machine....I would first pick out a leo you currently own, and love the fit of, and buy another one. You can unpick the seams and use it as the basis for a new, original design. i would also look into getting a custom dress form, there are several companies that make them or you could do a duct-tape double (just google it), and have it made with the boobage where you want it. I'd then go down to Joanns and buy some cheap, active wear fabric to make mock-ups (ignore the color/pattern so long as it's affordable) Pro tip - keep the seam allowances BIG so it's easy to make adjustments. Play around with it. Be bold and be brave. (I think some kind of drawstring for the under bust area would be handy.) Then make a couple and try 'em out. Jump around. Make some for friends. See if you love doing it or hate doing it. Just make what you want to wear. At the very least, you learn something new.
@@BallerinasByNighthello thank you for this I live in Toronto and I’m having trouble finding something like this in store seems limited most of the styles are for girls skinny i’ve been taking adult ballet for about seven years and I’m taking a workshop in National Ballet Of Canada Toronto would like it. I’m looking for a body suit short sleeves like a size 1214 and I’m looking for something else supportive but like I can’t buy anything or what do you think of the capezio classic lines thank you
It’s so helpful to see how these fit!!! I had thought I’d be the same size as you in most of these brands but I saw you share your girth measurement in a reply so I might need to size down in some? I’m a 32G and was pretty worried about not having space for my chest. I thought I’d have to choose my size based on that and take it in in other places but this video makes me hopeful that if I just choose the right leotard I won’t have to worry
Thank you so much for this video 💕 I’m returning to ballet as an adult and postpartum for the first time since I was a teenager 😬 We have similar measurements and you gave me hope about finding leotard options and rocking them!!
The leopard print and cotton candy 😍😍😍 obsessed. I love the Jule one too! I just ordered some of their colorful mesh tights but maybe I will have to go back and buy a leo 😂
Wow, I am waiting for that exact Jule leo to arrive. In that size. Yay, it looks amazing on you, I hope it looks as well on me. I am pale and freckly, white is not usually super flattering, but at that price it had to be done!
Jana you look so pretty! I love the Cotton Candy, leopard and the floral one you had custom made. You look beautiful and confident ;). It makes such a difference when we feel confident and pretty, I think it makes us dance better! Thanks for sharing. I think I'm gonna get a cotton candy one too, looking forward to the workout and thank you!
Thank you so much for this video. It's so helpful to see other curvy dancers and what they wear. What do you do about bust support? I have seen dance bras with clear back straps but they don't seem that supportive. Any tips? Thanks again!
The print looks really good! I'm very self conscious when it comes to my boobage (pointe work and small jumps just seem very un-elegant) so I'm afraid of straps, but it looks so good on you I might try a strap leo too! Also, if you don't mind, could you tell us how tall you are (or preferably your girth - basically a measurement from shoulder to crotch and back to shoulder)? I'm quite long waisted and have boobs, so a lot of things end up short in the body on me (so either give me a wedgie or a massive cleavage). I always find measurements more helpful than just size, but I understand completely if you don't want to put any numbers on the internet ;)
Thank you! Understand feeling self-conscious about boobage during pointe work and jumps! They just get in the way!! Lol. Someone else asked about my height as well and I feel bad I didn't even think about how that measurement would have been helpful to share as well! I'm 5'6" or 5'7" (I've been told both but haven't measured myself in awhile) and girth of 64". I hope that is helpful!!
I’ve been hesitant to order dancewear online because I’m not typical ballerina size. You’ve made me more excited to order some gear and give it a try! Thank you🩰❤️😊
I'm excited to see that Jule has XL now. I've always been too hesitant regarding sizing to order from them but seeing you rock their leotard has me interested again. This may be bad for my wallet.
I didn't realize XL from Jule was a new thing! Yay! That brand was not on my radar until recently! Tell your wallet I'm sorry! (but not sorry??!! hahaha)
Thanks for this video! Do you not wear sports bras with leos? I have trouble buying open back leos cuz I am soooo bouncy without a bra.. Lining alone never quite works. Want to get a new Eleve, but they are majority open-back these days :-\
I don’t have your size nor your „type“ (not blonde 😅 - but same age range 😉), but had to watch the whole video and all your videos in general. Love your content and you seem so nice also. Ballet sizing is so weird, probably only 2% of people buying ballet clothes are professionals, but still the sizing is generally ridiculous. Btw, your normal street clothes and make up style is also very pretty. Keep it up!
Oops. I think I got the last XL. It just arrived in Australia this afternoon. I will try on after my shower tonight. I want to wear it to practice tomorrow.
Love these!! You are GORGEOUS and I love all your picks (especially the cotton candy!). Currently binge watching this channel because I just signed up for an adult intro to ballet workshop for summer and I am so nervous about my size 14ish body. Your channel and this video have helped so much & I can't wait for my Discount Dance order to come in and start classes :D
Totally agree with Eleve - i bought the Louisa Leo in magnolia on a whim cos i was in love with the print... and its still my fave Leo especially as i have problems with finding Leo’s for my long torso. I now have 9-10 eleve Leo’s and they’re on high rotation in class for me. I find that Mirella Leo’s are really nice and soft as well...Bloch tend to use a stiffer Lycra/spandex so aren’t as stretchy as mirella. Capezio are good for long torsos as well. I found yumiko runs quite small (unless its just from the Tokyo store), and i find that their spandex/Lycra is quite thin. I tried lucky Leo and had to sell mine as they are way way way too short...they were a good 15-20cm shorter than the same size eleve. Barreto is another good etsy brand - her ombré Leo’s are beautiful. For the record I’m an Aussie size 8-10...but have to wear a large Leo as i have a long torso, and prefer my Leo’s not to be so extremely tight.
So happy to hear you love your Eleve leos! And thank you for the feedback on some other brands! Will need to give Mirella and Capezio a try! And Oh yes I've also heard good things about Barreto! Thanks so much!!
Thank you! And oh my gosh I totally didn't think to mention my height for reference too! I'm 5'6"-5'7" (I've been told both, so never sure which one I really am haha).
Thank you for this video! From your recommendation I just order some Mariia leos in the sizing you suggested. I was just getting discouraged and you saved the day!
The Leo from the Etsy seller is my favorite and looks perfect on you. Thanks for doing this one. Those of us with regular bodies are challenged in finding leos that fit and look great.
With some leos, yes, some no. I really hate the feeling of wearing a bra during class so I've just kind of accepted that my chest will bounce, cuz that's just how it is! I may just be used to that feeling!
I got a really pretty Christina Eleve from the Ready to Wear that's black with black lace. Its SO pretty. They are definitely my favorite leotard company I've tried. I always feel really good in my Eleves. I have quite a few now. I would like to try Labeldancewear cause the size chart looks fairly forgiving but I'm not sure how accurate it is and like you said it's always a gamble to order something and not know if it'll work. I can't wait to see what your thoughts are on yours, we have very similar proportions so hearing your thoughts is super helpful
Oooh your Christina from Eleve sounds so pretty!! So, I got my Label one this week and haven't shared thoughts on it anywhere yet, but the Large size is definitely too small for me! The shoulders weren't wide enough and kept falling off easily (I got a boatneck cap sleeve with open back style) and the arm holes were soooo small! I don't think they make an XL, so :(
Is anyone else waiting for the Leotards by Jana line? I feel like that would be an awesome thing.
Love this idea
I don't even know where to begin, but legit want to do this!
