"Kingdom of heaven, director cut" is the one to not miss. Really better than the shorter version.
Cool, I cant remember which version I watched but I will definitely be looking for he directors cut of it
Where can we watch it?
Bought a copy online it makes the theatre cut pointless to watch as so much is missing.
Yes, the director's cut is far better - and includes Hamlet borrowings like killing someone via poison in the ear. I don't mind - Shakespeare was all about borrowing stories.
Kingdom of Heaven is directed by Ridley Scott. The same director for The Gladiator
Kingdom of Heaven is one of the most incredible epic films you’ll ever see. It’s not for those who don’t like violence although it’s not gratuitous violence. It’s a don’t miss picture and I like the directors cut best but the theatrical version is wonderful.
Yes, the directors cut of kingdom of heaven is amazing
Kingdom of heaven in is in my top ten. Favorite movies all time.
What's ur top 3 films
When talking of A Listers in Kingdom of Heaven how can one not mention Jeremy Irons and Ed Norton
The two movies about Arn are so underrated it hurts. It's not only fantastic at the action and about the wars he takes part in, but also shows the everyday life in a really realistic and accurate way. Not only are we shown the everyday life of Arn, but also the people closest to him. So great movies for people interested in Medieval Scandinavia, although most is in Swedish so subtitles will be required if you don't speak it XDDD
I know, I am really hoping that with this video more films like Arn will get the recognition they deserve, such amazing films
Watched it more than 10×,
Love it..
Love the language.
Had goosebumps when he led his people out in his final battle.
It was sad when he finally died in his wife Cecilia Algotsdotter's arms after fighting to secure their freedom.
Arn is mostly fantasy
I had seen Arn before, but saw it again a few motnths ago, and it is alright. Not great, but just fine. The realism is on par with the vikings series. Arn just so happens to be the center in every event at ones and somehow with plot armor survive and beat odds he realisticly should have lost
@@TheBarser The story is mostly fantasy yes, but I was talking about the small stuff. I don't know what you count as realism, because I was focusing 0% on the story. I was talking about the clothing, the food they ate, the houses they lived in, how they lived in small towns close to each other, how the nature looked, even slightly on the politics and the religion
I have seen 2 of the 5. Will definitely be looking into them as your view of a good movie is similar to mine. Thank you.
I look forward to seeing Risen an Iron clad, the other 3 I have on DVD, I loved Kingdom of Heaven.
This makes me happy. I have taken a lot of flak from my family over the years for my love of Kingdom of Heaven.
I class it as an interesting failure on Ridley Scott's part as opposed to Gladiator which was a howling success
that I enjoyed but never felt I wanted to watch again. I also like Ironclad which I felt you were a little hard on.
It has a fantastic cast and in a weird way reminds me of Last of the Mohicans. I guess I just love siege movies.
Centurion I have seen and enjoyed and this renews my desire to see Risen. Will check out Arn as well. Thanks.
The siege of Rochester castle did happen but not as it was portrayed in the film. Kingdom of Heaven is a great film but watch the longer directors cut version, Ironclad is also a brilliant if blood thirsty film with many famous actors in it and Arn Knight Templar is also a very good film as is Centurion . Not seen Risen
Thanks for taking the time to put this list together. I sincerely appreciate it! Off to check them out now 😊
i am glad you enjoyed the video and got some benefit from it :)
Me too.
I already saw the five movies and they are all spectacular
Arn The Knight Templar is an amazing movie. It is a beautiful story of love , fortitude and honor. I wish we could have more movies like it.
I agree, I feel like if Netflix could get it on their subscription it would become a popular hit
But the book, they are amazing. The movie was okey, but didnt do the books justice. And the serie is just bad.
@@followthewhiterabbit1089, wow. Really? I am gonna add it to my list. Thanks.
@@HistorySpark , I wish. But Netflix is more interested in series with a good amount of pornography. There's always some kind of hidden agenda in most their tittles. A company that broadcasts something like cuties and The Alienist is unlikely to show real art and beauty, like we see in all these movies you've listed.
@@HistorySpark they will make Arn black and Saladin Chinese :x
Instead of Centurion I recommend The Eagle. IT is a great movie about the same time line but opening battle is amazing!
I've seen the Eagle, the opening battle scene was great it was a bit subpar after that but it probably is better than Centurion but it's also more popular :)
I like both films but they're very different types of film and i wouldn't put one above the other. My personal preference would be Centurion, of the two.
I think you mean “crucifixion” not “crucification.” Other than that, I’m excited to check out these films! Thanks!
It seems as if you already commented on "crucifacation" I thought it was a mistake the 1st time. Crucifacation is not a real word, no idea what he thought he was trying to get out of his head.
Fab list, the only one I've seen is Risen - really good. I will be checking out the others soon. Thanks
Thanks, i am glad you enjoyed my video. Which one you going to be watching first?
I love Arn. They combined the two parts into one movie, but the two part I thought was better.
Yea, tehy do that sometimes with longer foreign films, Red Cliff is another film that comes to mind
Things take time, such as this video. I am intrigued by your selections. Thank you for them.
Thanks i am glad you enjoyed the video, u might like the recommendations in this list 2 another set of unknown historical movies - ua-cam.com/video/Vvz9If9bdpg/v-deo.html
I wish they could make one about the battle of Flodden, thats a massive story waiting to be told.
Thank you.Look forward to watching them all.
Awesome, I hope you enjoy the movies:)
I want to add more: 13th Warrior, Viking(Russian Movie),Alatriste(Spanish Movie)?, The King, Outlaw King...
Loved the movie The king... Timothee's acting was awesome, hope he does more good roles in the future
Absolutely. Especially 13th warrior. The fight scene over who was going to be in charge going after the flesh eating people was fantastic and spoke volumes that you not try to judge the unknown without suffering the consequences.
@@tonyharris6427 My fav scene
outlaw king is amazing wish it was longer tho ;(
The 13th Warrior with Antonio Banderas is an awesome movie and highly recommended!!!!!!!
Arm is better if you watch the six part TV series the film is cut from...it’s available to watch for free on Amazon in the U.K.
Is it really? Thanks for the headsup, ill definitely be checking it out today
I have loved Kingdom of Heaven from day 1, but haven't seen the directors cut, so I may have to upgrade my dvd. Another wonderful historical movie I love is King Arthur (the 2004 version) who has a ton of fantastic actors. If you watch the dvd make sure that afterward you watch the part where they explain how it was made. Many interesting bits, including the fact that the swords they used in the movie were not movie prop swords, but swords actually made to historical length and weight. And as someone else mentioned, the movie The 13th Warrior is also fantastic!
Thanks for the recommendations
the only king arthur movie worth watching is the original one from 81
Great movies, seen them all. keep up the good work mate!
Thanks, what about the movies in this list, have u seen them - ua-cam.com/video/Vvz9If9bdpg/v-deo.html
Really good selection!
Great recommendations. Only Risen is the one I haven't seen. I will.
Thanks, I recommend Arn first :)
Not going to lie when you started off with Kingdom of Heaven I was about to to leave the video lol because I think it's a pretty popular movie but I'm glad I waited this list was great keep up the good work man
Haha in hindsight it probably wasnt the best idea to start the list with kingdom of heaven but i am glad you enjoyed the video and agree with most of my selections
@@HistorySpark you had to start with something.
Centurion is very good film and Ironclad, Kingdom of Heaven and Arn the Knight Templar too but what is name of that two parts of Arn i think ive seen only one of it
I have only seen one of these movies, will definitely have to check the other 4 out!
Which one r u going to watch first?
Man need to watch all 5 of it. Good pick
Thanks :)
I probably have half these movies on dvd
I haven't seen "Risen". But the other four, I have watched many times. "Ironclad" is one of my favourites 🥰🥰 But I saw "Arn" at the cinema and thought it was quite incredible.
Great
Kingdom of Heaven was seen by a lot of people I thought. It’s a badass movie.
I saw it in the theater and own it. I have watched it so many times and everyone I show it to enjoys it.
The director cut is a masterpiece. The theatrical is average. Watch the directors cut
I hoped you'll mention the movie Thomas Becket (1964) directed by Peter Glenville and starring Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole. I haven't watched it yet but I hear it's a masterpiece.
For those who search for it, the title is simply 'Becket', not Thomas Becket.
Both were nominated for the Oscar.
I believe Olivier played both roles on the stage.
It is "Becket"
are there any movies pertaining to the peasants' revolt and king richard ii and the ascension of henry bolingbrook to the throne?
not that I am aware of
If you haven't seen these films and are interested in the subject then you must be living under a stone and the only historical thing is that the films are getting old now. Well done for the editing.
I would be interested in what u think about the films in this list - ua-cam.com/video/Vvz9If9bdpg/v-deo.html
ANOTHER Top 5 Historical Movies You Probably Haven't Seen Yet - ua-cam.com/video/Vvz9If9bdpg/v-deo.html
Kingdom of heaven is a great movie
100% I am confused as to why it performed so poorly at the box office
How about El Cid, with Charlton Heston? Anybody seen that?
Love it. One of my all time favourites. Ben-Hur, Spartacus, and The Fall of the Roman Empire are also amazing. Old but gold.
Also
55 Days at Peking, about the Boxer rebellion.
The Agony and the Ecstasy, about Michelangelo and the Sistine Chapel.
Just about anything with Charlton Heston is good.
Also Planet of the Apes, and Soylent Green. Very historically accurate. (Kidding)
The King (2019) is also a great one. About King Henry V.
yes, that's a good movie. but not historical. the event was fantasy, doesn't based on a true story.
One of the best and realistic movie released in ages
THE KING is very good (even if not at all historically accurate)
The king was a good movie but I would say it's also pretty well known and popular, I've included it in several of my videos
I didn't liked it
Watched all five and love each and every one; KoHDC is a Masterpiece (I read the Producer who forced Scott to cut the film up for theatrical was fired from the Studio after the execs watched the DC) cost them $$ and Oscars.
My top little known Medieval film is The Warlord with Charlton Heston, great production values, top acting by all the cast, yet a very intimate story, with an epic small battle.
seen all five. excellent films.
Probably haven't seen? Who doesn't know about Kingdom of Heaven? Ridley Scott is a pretty big name in the film industry. And Ironclad has Paul Giamatti! And as a Swede, I sure have seen Arn.
I've seen Risen and Ironclad, but I really wanna see Kingdom of Heaven
its a great film, i didnt have high expectations for it but it was much better than i expected, i think ull enjoy it 👍😀
I see Ironclad and i like it but for me Kingdom of Heaven is the best from this list !
Bravehearth is my all time favorite :)
ITS AMAZING 😊 A FAVE
What is ironclad movie story?
back in 2000 i saw one about a gladiator, forgot the name.. believe it had same dude from Unhinged, definitely worth a watch!
Sounds like The Gladiator to me
I love all them. Ironclad is good - I live near Rochester Castle
It's a great film :)
Ironclad movie story tell to me please.
Great pics. Own some, interesting other ones. Thankyou.
Nice, which ones have u already watched?
I chuckle at the list because all of these films are from this century. The obviously younger poster has ignored many classic historic films that he ha sprobably neevr seen. This is a list for those under 35.
i am under 35 so i would say ur assessment is mostly accurate
I've seen an love them all.
Awesome
I love Kingdom of Heaven, but it is less accurate than you indicate. Balian de Ibelin was a VERY minor player in the whole thing, and Baldwin V was Sybilla's son, not brother. Those are not just "stumbles," at least not in my view.
The only 1 I haven't seen is Risen.
Arn is easily one of my favorite movies of all time, though the author/director took lots of liberties with it as well.
Agree that the movie wasn't very accurate (e.g Balian wasn't born in France, and wasn't locksmith). However, can't agree on some points. Baldwin the Lepper King in the movie was not Baldwin V. In fact in the movie it was never mention which Baldwin he was. In the history the Lepper King of Jerusalem was Baldwin IV who was indeed Sybille's brother while Baldwin V was indeed her son. Regarding Balian of Ibelin he was far from being the very minor player. He was in fact THE king maker supporting Raymond III of Tripoli over regency of Baldwin the IV and later over Baldwin V and of course the last commander of the defense of Jerusalem.
I've seen RISEN. While not a masterpiece by any means, it is a well made film. And it's nice movie to watch on or near Easter.
Although i am not Christian, i did find it to be an interesting and enjoyable film
@@HistorySpark It's similar to the 1953 film THE ROBE (based on Lloyd C. Douglas' novel) and the 2006 film THE FINAL INQUIRY(which itself is a remake of a 1987 film titled THE INQUIRY, which I have not seen). RISEN is, by far, the best out of those films.
@@HistorySpark If you like historical fiction, especially fiction dealing with early Christianity, you might enjoy the book The Shadow of the Galilean: The Quest for the Historical Jesus in Narrative Form by Gerd Theissen. Thiesen is New Testament scholar and historian, but his is a historical novel and not an academic piece of history. I think it would make a great movie. Another Biblical historical novel, which was turned into quite a good film is Barrabas by Par Lagerkvist, which was written in the mid-50's. It was made into a film in 1961 starring Anthony Quinn and it was directed by Richard Fleischer. That is probably the best American Biblical film of its period.
Seen iron clad years ago - it’s a really good movie , watched in many times since .
Both lists are well-appreciated. Ty
I'll be checking out about half (seen the others)
No problem, I am glad you are getting some value from my lists
Loved Kingdom. What about Arn? Think they left that out.
Arn was the number 1 spot on this list
for fans of sean bean, you can watch Black Death. Title is self-explanatory as to the historical period it is set in, though the story is fictional.
Black Death is mentioned in part 2 for this list - ua-cam.com/video/Vvz9If9bdpg/v-deo.html
Is this made for people there has living under a rock all their life or maybe never been in the cinema before or maybe never have watched TV?
Check out my recommendations on this list m.ua-cam.com/video/Vvz9If9bdpg/v-deo.html and see if u find something there that u haven't seen before
Great list and have seen them all.
Let me add to the list: Outlaw king, the King, the Eagle, Robert de Bruce wich is somehow the sequel for Braveheart and The last Duel.
The King have some of the best acting i have seen...
thanks for the recommendations, i have seen all of them and they are great films. Outlaw King is one of my favourite modern historical movies
@@HistorySpark Indeed...I have yet to see medieval...
@@RabihSaadguitars i was hoping that Medieval would be showing in a cinema near me but it didnt unfortunately it was a very limited release in UK
@@HistorySpark Yes I couldn't find it in a theater in here (Montreal)..
Thank you so much bro. I love you..
thanks, ilove u too lol
@@HistorySpark 😘😘😘 Help my soul relieved..💐💐💐 I'm in to you now.
Tyvm good insights
Your welcome, i am glad you enjoyed the video
Risen you said was white washed. Why? Israel would be Hebrew, Roman (Europeans) and generally Middle Eastern. So white and light brown people. Isn’t that what was shown?
Actually now that I review the cast more closely, I agree with ur statement perhaps I was incorrect in my analysis. Thanks for ur input!
Nooooooo only black people live in Africa! I bet Egypt out of all countries wishes it was on a different continent.
Ty!!!!! Give us 5 more;)
Kingdom of Heaven is unknown to most audiences? It's friggn Ridely Scott!
Yes but it also has Orlando Bloom in it so most people decided to give it a miss when it came out lol
flesh and blood 1985 = the most amazing medieval movie. The title is bad, the trailer is bad but the movie is great, a classic.
Lol so terrible marketing for a great film is what your saying. I'll definitely check it out tho
Arn was one of the most underrated movies in my opinion
I agree, its s fantastic film
@@HistorySpark Yes it is a good film that tells the story of the founding of my country. The second book in the series (The knights templar) is the only book that takes place in the holy land and it's one of the only western books about the crusades that are praised in the Muslim world for how both sides of the conflict is portrayed. The author Jan Guillou is on of Sweden's most famous journalist's and you can see in the books how much research he did into the history he wanted to tell. He even made a documentary about the making of the books where he took you back to the monasteries, churches and other historical landmarks mentioned in the books that still stand today. If you can find the books translated to your languish you should read them and the sequel Arn's legacy (Arvet efter Arn). That book follows the real life person Birger Jarl who in the series is made into Arn's grand son. He was the man who built Stockholm and finally united the three kingdoms of West and East Götaland with Svealand into one permanent kingdom. And you should also read his 10 part spy series of the Swedish James Bond, Carl Gustav Gilbert Hamilton. A field operator for Swedish military intelligence Trained in computers at UNSC I think and a Navy SEAL. He got the ide for the series when he was sent to jail as a spy because as a journalist he published classified information about illegal spy activities the Swedish security police was preforming against the Swedish population.
Thanks . I love those Historical movies .
your welcome :)
Well I have 4 of the 5 films mentioned here Arn Centurion Iron clad and Kingdom of heaven are favourites of mine to be sure.
Nice, good collection
All three are Fantastic
Fun films to watch, yes. Cool medieval and pre-medieval settings, yes. But “historical,” no.
I loved Arn! Really god movie. Highly recommend.
Me too, what a great film, both parts were awesome
Kingdom of Heaven Great movie however not historically accurate .
Kingdom of Heaven must be in like top movies all time, idk why it passed so unnoticed
Probably because Orlando Bloom was the star of the film, hes not that popular
@@HistorySpark just watched it again when I saw ur video. They should made like trilogy off of it, to add more action like epic battles and work more on story development. Story is very good but somehow looks like it is heavily compressed.
Sry for my bad English.
What is wrong with Orlando Bloom? I saw some people talking very bad about him but no one saying why he doesn't like him. I mean he is not so bad actor, seen worse with more success.
i've seen 4 of them. Arn the Knights Templar is the only one that i havent seen yet
Watch it, u wont regret it I promise
Similar tho Kingdom of Heaven
Same.
Ironclad was so well done, I really enjoyed it, though it was pretty darn bloody.
yes, its a shame ironclad 2 was one of the most atrocious things ever created tho
Iron clad sticks out in my mind for the part where he chopped the guy almost in half from neck to groin.
Loll yea, epic scene that
I remember coming across Ironclad in the past, but I didn’t realize it had that cast. I see Brian Cox and I’m instantly interested.
Also, The Eagle may as well be the sequel to Centurion.
Ironclad is decent, it was much better than i was expecting
Watched the first 4, will definitely want to see the last one.
Awesome, u can check out the part 2 to this list if u want to watch some more movies- m.ua-cam.com/video/Vvz9If9bdpg/v-deo.html
@@HistorySpark will definitely do. Thanks
'Khartoum' is excellent historically even though it has Charlton 'Woodenhead' Heston in it. 'Rob Roy' is excellent and NOT based on Sir Walter Scott's novel. 'That Hamilton Lady' with Vivien Leigh and Lawrence Olivier is older but not to be forgotten.
Thanks for the recommendations
Kingdom of heaven
How can a good video disappoint a person? By completely agree with it but at the same time having seen all movies and thus no hidden jewels for me!
How can I get these movies in urdu dubbed
Seen Kingdom of Heaven several times It's brilliant.
Kingdom of Heaven is not an unknown film. Centurin is not eighter, even though it is not as widespread as Kingdom of heaven.
There's so much wrong about Kingdom of Heaven... If you wish for accuracy, I don't recommend it in the slightest. But if you're not a history nerd or don't care about that stuff, go for it.
It's about as accurate as u can expect from a major Hollywood production company. I always say historical movies and TV shows are a great gateway to intrigue people into getting interested in and researching history
What ?? Is it wrong because the muslims win the war ?
@@HistorySpark Ridley Scot's director's cut of Kingdom is an outstanding and different film without the cuts.
History favoured the muslim.director favors the viewers.thats the point.SalahDeen is considered in Islam as one of the greatest ruler or sahaba.better read a book before just commenting here
@@TheAsheerkhan Takes more than "who won" to be considered historically accurate. Otherwise most historical films would be considered accurate even when they are not.
Don't forget 13th Warrior, Beowolf & Grendel (2005) and Battle of Vienna. All of these movies have great casts. Battle of Vienna has Salieri as a monk,...sssoooo he doesn't kill Mozart in this movie.
I'm going to go watch Kingdom of Heaven, it seems cool
it is ! try to watch the directors cut if you can
@@HistorySpark hmm okay!
ARN is really awesome . Both of them, actually. Loved them
Yes I love the films, have rewatched the films a couple of times
I have seen them all and have enjoyed each and everyone. The first time I saw Kingdom of Heaven it was the directors cut. I did not realized there were two versions until I saw the other on tubi last week, many deleted scenes. Prefer the complete film.
yes the directors cut is the best version to watch, the only one i would say to be fair
Kingdom of heaven and centurion are both very popular. otherwise good list.
Check out Valhalla Rising as well.!
Thanks, I've watched it before it's a good film
Recommend the outlaw king too!
its a great film !
Yeah, that was a good selection.
thank you!
The Lion in Winter, A Man for All Seasons, Harakiri
Thanks for the recommendations
@@HistorySpark You're welcome. Harikiri is in Japanese, but you can get a subtitled version. It's an intense drama about the end of feudal Japan...an authentic "Last Samurai"
Kingdom of Heaven is one of my favorites.
me too, the directors cut of it is great
Thanks for that list. There are a couple I have not heard of and will look forward to watching. For me, 'Centurion' was spoiled by the filming against modern vegetation which is very obvious since I live in Scotland. We have had 350 years of sheep that have destroyed almost all the original forest on the hills.
Thanks, I am glad u enjoyed the video. I never noticed the vegetation in a video before but if point seems valid
The Centurian is an under rated movie, watch it. The Risen is a great idea; however, it would have been better if they followed the Bible. ;) Ironclad is a good movie, and I highly recommend it. Arn is good, but the ending made much of the movie unneeded.
Thanks for ur input, I agree with most of ur points
Missing The king and outlaw king on Netflix is amazing
yes they are both great films but not appropriate candidates for this list, they both get recommended in this video here tho - ua-cam.com/video/SjEU3MbrF00/v-deo.html
I like how you point out shortfalls where they are due, but because you do so with almost every movie on this list, I hardly feel these are the 'top 5' historical movies I haven't seen: all have pretty serious shortcomings (ohhh yes Kingdom of Heaven I'm looking at you), are hardly seen as top movies by either viewers or critics, and all of them are 21st century. And Kingdom of Heaven is a widely know film (just less so in the US). I feel there are definitely some better unknowns out there!
Thats a fair enough point, what do u think about the movies in this list - ua-cam.com/video/Vvz9If9bdpg/v-deo.html
Nice recommendations.
Thanks,I am glad u enjoyed the video
@@HistorySpark watched Centurion it is amazing.
@@arshadUH Thats good, check out The Eagle its kind of like an unofficial sequel to the film
@@HistorySpark The Eagle was a great movie.
Kindly suggest few more.

I’ll check em out
Awesome 👍
seen, seen, seen, seen & seen,. Thank you
Interesting, the only one i haven't seen is Arn. I'll watch out for it now.
Arn is somewhat similar to Kingdom of Heaven.
Men I watched kingdom of heaven and it was 3 hours long but worth to watch it was so good
yup kingdom of heaven the directors cut is one of the best historical movies ever created :)
4 outa 5
ARN is a frikin classic
An amazing film !
