Was thinking exactly the same thing. Zulu is my all time favourite film and part of it makes an appearance in Gladiator, but amazed that Waterloo did not make it as it is far superior to a lot of the films here.
My grandfather loved that film 8:22 Zulu it was favorite war movie cause it was the first film he seen in cinema when he was 11, he seen it with his brothers and cousins, but once the film was finished he went back in to watch it again cause he loved it so much
Whilst we are prioritising attention to historical detail for the list, we are allowing fictional films to be included, as long as there is some degree of historical accuracy to them. For instance, we're aware that 'Braveheart' is regularly regarded as historically inaccurate, however, due to its portrayal of real people and events, we decided it was eligible for the list. However, fantasy-based films such as ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and ‘300’ have not been included (despite the latter being loosely based around the real-life Battle of Thermopylae), as we're considering doing a separate video for these in the near future.

@@Troy-fo6ks It is an edited version of a film that is supposed to represent the director's own approved edit, compared to the producer's cut, perhaps, which we see in the theatres. In some cases, they are very different, like the movie I mentioned above.
It is an incredible film, we would have loved to put it higher too, but as the sequences during the Seven Years' War only take up a partial amount of the film, we decided to place it a little lower this time. Thanks for the comment!
I really really recommend a Serbian movie "King Peter the First", a newer movie. Really well done and tells a story of multiple characters, real life accurate lives and story of the youngest soldier in WW1 and of course, King Peter the First who went into battles. Depicts the most important battles of WW1, since everything started in Serbian Kingdom at that time. Most bone-chilling moment in the movie is when the Serbian army was forced to retreat through harsh Albanian mountains, not only hunger, flus, sickness, cold weather were the problem but the Albanians who killed the weakest that were left behind. Depicts every detail of Serbia in WW1. I really really recommend that movie, as the movie progress it gets more darker.
It is a terrific movie. But I think it should have had more recognition that the previous day, an entire British regiment of more than a thousand men died almost to the last man by attacking Zilus. There is some recongition of that is Zulu, but it's slight. Contrasting the reasons why a far smaller force beat off the Zulu attackers with while the regiment was destroyed would have been a useful contrast.
Alexander Nevsky and Kagemusha are sweet choices. Great list, it is always a pleasure listening someone who really knows about movies and not just pretend. Keep up with the lists please👌🏻
*The Last of the Mohicans* (1992) is an epic of regular and guerrilla warfare. *Zulu* (1964) is just a fantastic movie. Both Ran and Barry Lyndon have majestic cinematography.
I would like to recomend the great war film "Khartoum" made in 1966. Along with Zulu is one of my favorites, highly recomended. And another, even though is not historical but a great war picture is "The mercenaries" made in 1968 with Rod Taylor. Perhaps you´ll consider it for a 1960 list. Great work, keep them coming.
The Patriot is one of the WORST films in my opinion....decidedly NON-Historical! But I enjoyed the list, mostly very good films if not close to historically accurate.
The number 1 should definitely be waterloo. The most accurate compared to any of the movies on the list. Over 15 000 extras from the soviet army, No CGI, the biggest reenactment of waterloo to be ever made. I really suggest watching it.
If you loved Waterloo, I recommend watch War and Peace (1965). It’s the largest battle ever put on film. I believe it also has over 15000 extras. I think you’ll like it.
As we stated at the start, we weren't including World War I or World War II films in this list therefore 'Lawrence Of Arabia' is ineligible, we have a separate list for those here: ua-cam.com/video/H2reUVB5mtw/v-deo.html.
Braveheart shouldn't have been in there, the film was a joke, and if you like the scenery so much, then put it in the travelogue category. Oh, and if you'll excuse my pedantry, the regiment at Rorkes Drift wasn't Welsh, it was the 24th Foot (2nd Warwickshire) Regiment. (Good choice for number one, though 👍)
We're aware not everyone's a fan of 'Braveheart' and can understand why. For 'Zulu', we do know that the 24th Regiment of Foot was founded in Warwickshire in the 1680s, however, it was relocated to Brecon 6 years prior to the Battle of Rorke's Drift, and although this doesn't instantly reclassify it as a Welsh regiment, Stanley Baker personally wanted to portray the Welsh side of the conflict (with some English soldiers thrown in too), this is the main reason behind why they chose to describe them as Welsh in the film, as well as the scene where they all sing "Men of Harlech". Thanks for the comment! :)
Thanks for the comment. We did mention at the start that we weren't including American Civil War films as we’ve covered these in a different video which can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/nkvHQh5uYBQ/v-deo.html
Yeah we generally aim to include "at least" 2 international choices per list to ensure there's some variety, however this one did prove a bit tougher to find international picks for. Obviously, we included picks from Japan, China and Russia, I'm sure there are plently more out there, and always open to personal choices. Thanks for the comment!

John Barry’s musical score for Zulu is AWESOME 😎!!!!!!
Thanks for adding more recommendations to my overwhelmed watch list! Lol
А фильм, Троя (2004)? Для этого фильма нет никакой награды? My Number 1 - The movie Troy (2004)
The last samurai was in fact a french person call Jules brunet. This movie with Tom Cruise was inspired by his story

The Director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven should be in the top ten list
What does directors cut means?

That movie is extremely boring
@@Troy-fo6ks If the theatrical version is a 3, the directors cut in this case is a 5.
Definitely!!!
Ran definitely a cinema masterpiece 👍
What is absolutely missing is Waterloo (1970)
Why no Waterloo
The theatrical release of Alexander wasn't that great but the Directors Cut of the movie turned it into one of my favorites. 👌
Agreed
I dont think "Breaker Morant" cannot be ignored
Last samurai favourite
wow no Waterloo?
Gladiator number 1 movie aal time
1000%
The opening sequence of "Gladiator" is a remarkable impression of what war with Rome might have been like.

*The Last of the Mohicans* (1992) is an epic of regular and guerrilla warfare.
*Zulu* (1964) is just a fantastic movie.
Both Ran and Barry Lyndon have majestic cinematography.
Outlaw King would have been a great honorable mention
The Last Samurai is categorically not a 'white-saviour' story
Red Cliff is a chinese movie that I enjoyed watching but nobody in America have seen it, sadly
What about Troy?
There are better movies that his.. Hollywood is bad at making historical war movies
Best Ones (in my humble opinion): Braveheart + Gladiator
