Man, Jacob really gives you a real review. He truly gets what being a viewer is and entertains us like he is also in the market for the car he is reviewing...well done again gootman...mosebetsi o motle🔥🔥🔥🔥
Less than a year ago you could have bought the top of the range x-line for R260k, I bought my Picanto style auto for R225 2 years ago, now the bottom of the range manual is R260? Crazy! I was looking to upgrade my Picanto style but to get one with the same spec I had to pay over R300k so added R15k and bought SuzukiFronx Auto, whole differed level car and still R10k cheaper then the new top of the rang Picanto! I loved my Picanto but they lost the plot with these prices.
Picanto is an ideal daily runner in & around the city and offers great fuel consumption and all the basic creature-comfort features...however, from a price perspective, ayikhona, we no longer talking "budget" , we talking serious ka-ching 💰
In 2018 I bought a Kia Start demo model with 50km on the clock for R150k, till this day one of the most reliable and fuel efficient cars I’ve owned, few things the very first model in this new gen shape lacked back then were ABS and it only had one airbag. there weren’t much safety features on the base model. The massive jump in price is due to all the safety features which I totally understand. I would highly recommend this car for anyone who seeks reliability, great fuel economy and surprisingly a spacious cabin for a so called small car. It’s also very cheap to maintain, this video made me hop onto the internet looking for a picanto again as a run around second car.
Great job Jacob, awesome review. We have 5 Kia Picantos in my family, from the 2010 model through to 2019. But the pricing of the current model is why I am now considering the Swift GLX.
I used to own a Striker back in 2010/11. was a fantastic little car just as you say. I still love the Picanto model, but that price is a shocker.... wow.
I will always stand behind the kia picanto because I had one for 4 years the 2nd gen version with the best engine for these the 1.25 that was 8 years ago and now I have a Toyota Etios on loan and OMW I would still take that 10 year old picanto hands down. Crazy how you get a Base EcoBox for a 1/4 million lately that's just insane.
Last year, I got a second hand, Kia Picanto 1.2 Smart 2020 model at the time it had 17500 kilometres. My second hand Picanto was about the same price as mentioned in the video but mine is TOP spec just a little bit older. Shows how the pricing has changed even though it's secondhand. I believe the Smart was the top spec before the GT line came in, but I'm not totally sure. Love my Picanto! 🫡😎
New car prices are really through the roof. My daily is a "16 1.2 Spark LT. Very reliable, comfortable, and gets 4.3l/100km. And from what I'm seeing in this segment, the only thing I miss out on is a beating stereo.
For R260.000 i would rather go for the toyota starlet. Better/bigger engine better/bigger value. You must have a few screws missing paying 260k for a 1L when you can get a 1.5L for the same price.
You guys are missing a crucial point and we expect a little more research. I reckon the cheap Swift is a good car for what it is but there are two Swifts. the 213k Maruti Swift and the 450k Suzuki Japan Swift. They share the chassis but they are built very differently (engine, suspension) and the Japanese one has far superior NVH. Sadly this still happens in the world, but companies build cheaper inferior cars for the 3rd world (us) and higher quality cars for the 1st world. You can't even buy the cheap swift in Europe as it is not compliant with their standards. The Kia Picanto is available in Europe and that tells you what you need to know. If you drive the Picanto and the 213k Swift back to back you will feel where your money is going.
My wife has the previous generation Picanto, just gone over 100k km and proven to be very economical and reliable, however the sticky and difficult gear change issue has reared its ugly head, despite a new clutch and release bearing and adjusted clutch cable the problem persists, apparently a common problem with them?
I've said this to Ciro De sienna but since you are a joburg guy maybe you'll understand. A cooler box is always accompanied by a camp chair so a proper boot test should be a COOLER BOX WITH A CAMP CHAIR
the problem is that the swift GA at 213k doesnt come with a radio, then the GL has somewhat as many features as this, and then the GLX is finally on par with this basemodel. the only worse value is regarding the 1.0 engine in base form and the lack of service plan.
My mother paid 307 for her EX sonet automatic two tone when she bought it in 2021 brand new. Kia now want 408 for the same car with no updates. Kia what are you smoking.
@@juan-paulbotes1107 the poor economy doesn't help yes. But Kia stil only gives us the leftovers. We get the base model sonet here and pay double what they do in India for less equipment. The features they get are much better. The sportage doesn't even have a 360 camera or wireless android auto, simple things you can find on a 300k Suzuki. And once again if i had to tell her what to buy now the Suzuki fronx is a much better deal than what they want for the stripped out sonet. We pay the most for their most neutered models
Still have that exact model...hasn't given any trouble, with anything,at all.Wanted the last of the Xline range but was caught off guard when they were discontinued. They now only have second hand or demo X lines.I am a little nervous buying a demo.
Unnecessarily too expensive. The swift looks better and has a bigger boot space and slightly better fuel consumption. It does look good though, I'll give it that.
Still have the original picanto 2010, 1,1 base spec, no aircon or anything, goes well enough, but for this price of the new one would probably go for the outgoing model as they want to get rid of stock, looks a bit too cyberpunk to me, even though its aesthetics really
Where are they getting rid of stock?Do you know something?I cannot get the outgoing...they only have used and demo. And demo comes with the risk of "has it had abuse or been run in properly?".
My snail runaround is a 2015 LX...gets me 4.6l/100km, very happy. They missed the whole idea this time regarding price... too much for essentially a budget car.
Just love the Kia Picanto, I have my 3rd Picanto now. And planned to upgrade my current 2015 Picanto 1.2 EX to the new Picanto. But I cannot justify the price, and wont be upgrading. Also have not seen 1 on the road since launch, probably coz of the price. This time Kia went overboard and the sales figures are telling. I'm thinking that this might be the last model. Unless Kia does the same with the same that Hyundai Grand i10 did where a crossover was born. To be called the Hyundai Exter that might be coming to South Africa. Only then will the Kia Picanto survive. Just my thoughts.
Very expensive, small and underpowered and lazy... I honestly see no point in buying this over suzuki... I own Dzire and my fuel consumption has always been lessthan 5l/100km
Everyone in the comments is complaining about the price and blaming Kia. Let's not blame Kia for the pricing. Lets blame South Africa's economy. That's the real reason this car is so expensive. #thetruthwillsetyoufree
The swift triumph it by a mile, there's a reason why Toyota approached Suzuki for their cars... But obviously Suzuki will never share their flag ship vehicles (Jimny and Swift). Price is so important in this economy, we no longer have a standard Golf because of that

Suzuki Swift for me. So much more value for money
