Q&A:
Q: Why did the background turned black and text white?
A: Go to the left panel and make sure the top color is black and the bottom color is white and not vice versa.
Q: Why does not look the same as in the video?
A: You're artboard size is different size from mine. You need to adjust the filter settings according to your artboard.
Q: What fonts did you use?
A: Left font: Druk
Right font: Silvermist Italic (couldn't find the original one but this one is sexier)
Can you please expand on your answer to the first question? I have done what you said, but even in the filter gallery, the background is transparent, and my text appears white. I applied a solid black background fill, and I'm still not getting the right effect. Can you give us the size of your artboard as well?

Great tutorial as always! Just a question, do you know how I can apply distress to my text but still be able to change the color of my text? I haven't found any tutorials that distressed the text without leaving it black and white.

you go to select > color range > select the white color with the eyye dropper tool + > enter > mask > and it's done.
Is there a way to give that same effect to text but withouth the background?

-Make it into smart object again after selecting filters
-open layer style
-use the "Blend If: Grey" sliders
-Slide the dark marker under Current Layer
Should remove black bg with that or can try click on marker + alt to split and then drag

@@heyariel5561 @Vroooooo I was having the same issue and @ruby_ea2303 answered elsewhere in the comments -- make sure the top colour in your bucket fill is set to black

@PANTERvision this has been bothering me for a while now, but is there anyway to only apply the effect onto the words of a transparent background instead of having the background as a solid color?
How I remember the effect didn't work that well if the BG wasn't fused into a smart object with text but I'm not sure

Hi, i think i do the same, but when i enter filter gallery, i can only see the effect on Grain filter, others like halftone, graphic pen,... the view is blank. Can you help me with that? Thank you.
The fill colours need to be black and white. pressing d will change them back to default when none of the layers are selected :)

If you're file Color is set to CMYK you may have to convert to RGB, at least I had to.

Try making sure your foreground and background colors in the bottom left match his before opening the filter gallery. In case you’re still wondering this after 5 months lol

Yes because it has a different size then my artboard and the effect behaves differently, you need to test and adjust the settings that's gonna work.

do I always need to have a plain background for this to work on a font/word? I wanted to apply the effect on a PNG word, no bg layer, to have the freedom of using it anywhere I wanted
Not all effects from this composition work on no background but how I remember 70% will be the correct outcome

You're welcome! There might be a way but I don't know that. You can make it with no background too, but the effects won't looks the same with no transparency

I had a similar issue. From what I could gather in his video it looked like he was using a text layer. I did a quick png export of my text layer, then used that and it looked like the final version here. @@jeromesri8627

to apply it ur file needs to be in RGB 8bit. idk if this helps
