Can you please expand on your answer to the first question? I have done what you said, but even in the filter gallery, the background is transparent, and my text appears white. I applied a solid black background fill, and I'm still not getting the right effect. Can you give us the size of your artboard as well?
Sorry if not the best description lol -Make it into smart object again after selecting filters -open layer style -use the "Blend If: Grey" sliders -Slide the dark marker under Current Layer Should remove black bg with that or can try click on marker + alt to split and then drag
Hi, i think i do the same, but when i enter filter gallery, i can only see the effect on Grain filter, others like halftone, graphic pen,... the view is blank. Can you help me with that? Thank you.
Great tutorial as always! Just a question, do you know how I can apply distress to my text but still be able to change the color of my text? I haven't found any tutorials that distressed the text without leaving it black and white.
Try making sure your foreground and background colors in the bottom left match his before opening the filter gallery. In case you’re still wondering this after 5 months lol
why is the filter gallery effects not applying to my text even if I turned it to smart object????? like the graphic pen tool is just turning my whole image black D:
do I always need to have a plain background for this to work on a font/word? I wanted to apply the effect on a PNG word, no bg layer, to have the freedom of using it anywhere I wanted
yo! love your vids. what fonts do you like using for stuff like this? im getting into design for artwork for my band and im struggling in the text department.
hey panter, the graphic pen effect acts different with my smart object text. it looks like a grainy pencil sketch for some reason. any way i could fix that so to look more like yours please? thank you!
@PANTERvision this has been bothering me for a while now, but is there anyway to only apply the effect onto the words of a transparent background instead of having the background as a solid color?
thank you for the awesome tutorial. I'm also curious about how to do this and get it on a transparent background so i am able to underlay things within the poster and under the font. also, is there a way to do this and colorize the font or it has to stay black/white?
You're welcome! There might be a way but I don't know that. You can make it with no background too, but the effects won't looks the same with no transparency
Does anyone know why I could do this fine step-by-step, but just got a new MacBook Pro and re-downloaded the Adobe suite, now the effects don’t work like they used to??
I had a similar issue. From what I could gather in his video it looked like he was using a text layer. I did a quick png export of my text layer, then used that and it looked like the final version here. @@jeromesri8627

I started in PS 7.0 and I love how Photoshop evoluted, but I love too how some of the classic tools are so fast and useful to make great things yet!

you go to select > color range > select the white color with the eyye dropper tool + > enter > mask > and it's done.
@@barbarafroes6288how do you mask?
when i apply the graphic pen effect, nothing happens. Is it because i have the text white and the background black or something else??
Same
What is the used font pls ?
Well, that was much faster than I was expecting
Is there a way to give that same effect to text but withouth the background?
Sorry if not the best description lol

The fill colours need to be black and white. pressing d will change them back to default when none of the layers are selected :)

Awesome video man, you should do a tutorial for your intro!!
why is the filter gallery effects not applying to my text even if I turned it to smart object????? like the graphic pen tool is just turning my whole image black D:
to apply it ur file needs to be in RGB 8bit. idk if this helps
The graphic pen tool isn't working is it something I am doing wrong?
If you're file Color is set to CMYK you may have to convert to RGB, at least I had to.
do I always need to have a plain background for this to work on a font/word? I wanted to apply the effect on a PNG word, no bg layer, to have the freedom of using it anywhere I wanted
Not all effects from this composition work on no background but how I remember 70% will be the correct outcome

How come when I add the field blur, the letters don't just blur, but get distorted?
hey panter, the graphic pen effect acts different with my smart object text. it looks like a grainy pencil sketch for some reason. any way i could fix that so to look more like yours please? thank you!
Yes because it has a different size then my artboard and the effect behaves differently, you need to test and adjust the settings that's gonna work.

@PANTERvision this has been bothering me for a while now, but is there anyway to only apply the effect onto the words of a transparent background instead of having the background as a solid color?
