Every single time I've come here I learn 10 new things.
Brady you're a freakin' legend, brother.
You know you're doing a good job when people start watching your tutorials for entertainment. I even laughed a little when you started blurring.
That being said, I'll be sure to use this technique in future projects. Thank you!
Very cool, I actually like watching tutorials just to see people work as well. Appreciate it!
I don't even use Photoshop that much, but it feels this channel just fills bag of tools. It definitely opened my mind on the usage of textures, as I never really used them a lot. I'm using TextureLabs now :P
@@Texturelabs you also got that smooth tone in your voice ^^
I really appreciate you not only giving clear helpful direction but also explaining the things that could have been done and why you didn’t use them, and smaller side tips throughout that really helped me understand this effect a lot more :)
been using field blur for this effect but this is much faster and more convenient. great stuff as always. thanks!
Right on thanks... Ah ya someone just mentioned field blur - definitely works! Always nice to have multiple tools for slightly different looks
@@Texturelabs Yeah definitely since some methods mesh well with other tools differently
I also use field blur for this. A bit slower but you don't need to rasterize the text. You can do this on smart layers. Which means you can come back to this and make changes later on.
I think you lose a lot of the hands-on aspect using Field Blur, which is why the smudge tool is a more attractive option IMO.
One of my favorite Photoshop UA-cam channels!
Right on!
I see notification i click, i learn something new, i appreciate, thnx
That's cool to hear thanks!
Great to see you back again, Brady!
Thanks, been a hectic month but it was nice to get something posted!
Omg the king has dropped a new one
Ha!
I've been smudge-blurring since version 6, way back in the 90's. The blur tool has never been capable of the levels of blur which it should have been able to. This is a good way to get around how wimpy the blur tool is.
v6 was Y2K.
I still cant believe how all these are free, thank you so much!
You can also use alt + right click to adjust your brush size. You usually have your left hand around the ctrl/alt area anyway. Works well with alt + scrolling and (shift +) scrolling, which is zooming and moving around the canvas. Which happens often when using any sort of brush-like tool.
Photoshop is a set of tools, and Brady knows how to blend them like a maestro, a true genius. No licking here, just the simple and humbling truth.
It's my first time to realize this use for smudge tool. thank you
You could also play around a bit with the scatter option on a brush. Instead of the useless blur-tool I'm mostly using smudge with a scatter, because it immediately blurs what's underneath the stroke instead of just blur-dragging the pixels along the stroke
this only tell us a thing: traditional media and i mean old tools from photoshop still rocks! thanks for this dude!!!
Thank you so much!!!! I love the website. Until 5 minutes ago I used to browse across the web and download low quality texture but that is just amazing. Please keep it up, you might end up something like unsplash
unbeliveible tut, thank you so much
easily the BEST tut I've ever seen!
Oh that makes sense on why I couldn't get the same effect with the Lens Blur when doing your spray paint effect.... I just ended up smudging and applying texture hah
Ah yup! Haha, I was kind of wondering if anyone had noticed that....
@@Texturelabs I won't lie, I just assumed I was doing something wrong lol.
great as always. we can use the layer brightness as a mask to retrieve transparency so no issues.

Again thank-you Brady for taking the time to make a comprehensive video. Definitely will consider the field blur as well for a non destructive work flow. I like the concept of blurring the edges. Not exactly sure how I will use this technique. However, I am use that I will find a use for it in the near future.
What a legend! Thank you for all your content.
Simply..THANK YOU Brady! Great Channel!

You deserved a follow :)
Great, great, great x hundred times.
That is such a nice look. Thank you for the tut.
Another brilliant Tutorial! sometimes the simplest methods are the most underlooked ones. Thank you for another crucial peice of information.
Man I've been wondering if there was a better way to get good isolated light bloom blur effects in painting and have been using the Box and Gaussian blurs but this method gives way more freedom in how the blur looks. Thanks for the tutorial!
AWSOME!
Great effect. I love the textures! I'd recommend Field Blur non-destructively on a Smart Object. :) As far as I know, you can't do the lighten and darken with just Field Blur but you could use multiple layers and Blend If. Edit: Just tried to reproduce this in Field Blur with good effect. I was glad because I went back in and adjusted the blur points to make improvements after I moved things around. Definitely recommend non-destructive techniques when possible. 👍 Thanks for the inspiration!! :-D
Cheers thanks for the comment! Absolutely, field blur has the non-destructive thing going for it; should have included that in the vid instead of lens blur... so, +1, worth exploring for anyone who's into this kind of treatment
Amazing!!Thx for sharing

Loved this tutorial! Thanks a lot...Subscribed and ready to see everything you´ve done and what´s to come
I've never seen this type of tip, very nice! I like to use Blur Gallery > Field Blur so I can have more control over exact parts of text that I want blurred out and/or sharper.
Still an amazing video, keep up the good work.
thx youre mvp
I would love to see this made in aftereffects as a title reveal sequence
