#1 Rule of watching Voiceplay and Geoff videos! Wait until the Patrons roll, and even give that a few seconds. (I've kind of made myself an unofficial informer of the 5 top rules...) But she did watch it in the intro, so probably forgot to add it into the main video.
Great reaction, but... did you forget you need to watch VP and Geoff videos until the credits roll? You missed the end.
VP performed this live at the Very Merry Mickey Christmas party. Every year Geoff updated the lyrics of one verse, like Eli wanting tickets to The Last Jefi. Or here, tickets to Hamilton because DeeJay was touring with the show.
Trying to picture Geoff as Tinkerbell cracks me up. I liked the nod to Deejay Young and Hamilton by Eli. And I loved Geoff's low note at the end. The man can make a phone book sound evil. PS: check out The Christmas Can-Can by Straight No Chaser. I guarantee that you'll love it.
The original version was definitely not pitch-corrected (e.g., with AutoTune). I am absolutely confident it could not have been, because that technology did not exist until decades later. However, I think some of the voices may have been recorded at half speed, which can be done with a reel-to-reel tape recorder, technology that *did* exist at the time. Playing them back at regular speed would raise the pitch by exactly one octave, without distorting the sound in any other way (apart from doubling the tempo, obviously).
These guys don't need such tricks. They can just hit the notes.
Yeah, that was the gimmick. Singing the song slow, and playing it back fast to make them sound high pitched. Started with the witch doctor song, and continued into the chipmunks. They even used the same technique (for the songs at least) when they did the new Chipmunk movies. I heard in an interview that the trickiest thing was remembering to hold out the consonants as well as the vowels. If you don't it ends up sounding choppy when you speed it up.
@@gregsteele806 How do you hold consonants? Well, I mean, ok, sure, you can hold liquids and nasals and sibilants. But you can't really hold plosives...
I heard that Deejay was in the touring company of Hamilton, making the line about tickets and his reaction more interesting.
Yes. Hamilton was on tour in Orlando Florida when they filmed this in November last year. He was understudy for all the male parts.
Jose Rosario Jr was understudy in the Hamilton tour 3 years ago.
DeeJay has been in several videos with Voiceplay.... Bang. Butter. Best Friend. Man In The Mirror. In My Room.
As well as many shorts videos with them.
VP's version of this song makes me crazy smile like a total goober at the screen. XD PS--I would die to see Deejay in Hamilton...
I’m so glad you reacted to this one and loved it! DeeJay is amazing. He was on The Voice this season. And not sure if you got the joke but he was touring with Hamilton when they filmed this. ❤

This was a lot of fun! I’m not familiar with DeeJay but he works so well with VoicePlay. VP invites so many really interesting vocalists to play (sing) with them.
Posted this suggestion on your Patreon to add to your VoicePlay journey, but thought I would add it here too. VoicePlay’s cover of Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters”, is arguably one of their best. It’s powerful, dynamic, very well arranged and performed. It’s a great listen (over and over). Don’t take your eyes off the climax of the song - there’s a fun bit there (well, a few actually).
I recommend listening, or maybe reacting to, Metallica’s original first. Enjoy!

Lol that you never heard Layne before? Have you caught any of the ones where he sings? He’s got a lovely tenor and can also drop into Geoff’s territory.
As many others have mentioned, you missed the best line from Layne at the end. But you also seem to have missed one other feature from Layne. When Deejay Young sang “listen for those nine reindeer,” Layne did actual sleigh bells!
Did you notice the intro was in 3/4 (the original meter of the song) where the rest is in 4/4?
Lmao "lowest singer in the entire world". I'm so happy you did this one. This was one of the ones I was hoping you would do last year. Dj young is amazing. You should check out in my room, butter and man in the mirror covers. Incredible vocals and the guys had so much fun with butter. Also you should check out true colors. Layne has such nice voice in that song. Happy holidays.
