Charlie's Angels is a 2000 American action comedy film directed by McG in his feature film directorial debut, and written by Ryan Rowe, Ed Solomon, and John August. It is the first installment in the Charlie's Angels film series, a continuation of the television series of the same name created by Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts, which is also a continuation of the series story. Unlike the original series, which had dramatic elements, the film features more comical elements. It stars Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu as three women working in a private detective agency in Los Angeles. John Forsythe reprised his role as the unseen Charlie's voice from the original series. Bill Murray also stars as John Bosley, replacing David Doyle who played the role in the original series. It also stars Sam Rockwell, Tim Curry and Kelly Lynch while Crispin Glover, Matt LeBlanc, Luke Wilson and Tom Green appear in supporting roles.

Can you do a Mean Girls month? You know clique flicks? Like Means Girls 1 and 2, Jawbreaker, Heathers, etc.
I was an early 2000s kid and I agree so with this being a time capsule of silliness
Can you please do a lego movie month
Dear Channel Awesome if you get any Fan Mail will you do a Mail Time Episode🎮🔫🤓
I actually "Charlie's angels" 2000 very much I wonder if this line still works "good morning angels"
It's funny that apparently Crispin Glover asked to have all his dialogue removed so his character could be creepier and the filmmakers agreed
I really like it when actors are able to do that (with it actually working out, of course)
Fun Fact: An extremely profane argument between Bill Murray and Lucy Liu shut down filming for a day. Murray allegedly said: "I get why you're here (Drew Barrymore), and you've got talent (Cameron Diaz)... but what in the hell are you doing here? You can't act!" The remark is said to have prompted Liu to launch a physical attack on Murray. In recent years, Murray cited script problems as the reason for the feud. He explained: "We began rehearsing this scene and I said, 'Lucy, how can you want to say these lines? These are so crazy'. She got furious with me because she thought it was a personal assault, but the reality is she hated these lines as much as I did. I feel very warmly for her now."
Interesting 🤔
Nobody should be surprised about Bill Murray acting like a prick.
The man has made an entire career out of it ^^
Bill Murray is kinda a worthless prick, a drunk and hated Richard Dreyfuss.....He's barely in that Ghostbusters video game, because HE decided he was finished halfway through recording sessions, there is a reason why Venkman disappears after the first couple of levels and most of his lines are just recycled dialog they had recorded before he decided he was finished.
Anybody remember the video game?
I hope it's the second one, because he can't act either.
But I'd be more surprised if Bill Murray wasn't a hypocrite, so there's that.
Regarding characters, the impression I got was that Alex is the driven, overachieving perfectionist with an affluent background, Natalie is the fun-loving, carefree one, and Dylan is the scrappy, rebellious character with a tough upbringing. Not very deep character profiles, but you could say it's there...at least some of the time, haha.
Yeah…. All 3 are clearly defined through out both films…. This dude is pulling criticisms out of his ass
Sounds great on paper...
NC’s love for Tim Curry is BEYOND contagious
You could say it's a To-To-TOXIC LOOOOOOVE
Tim Curry is a national treasure
He’s an absolute legend
@@chasehedges6775 he literally saves every movie he's ever been in. He must be protected at all costs.
I'm pretty sure he's worth more
Spaaayce!
He even made Congo somewhat tolerable. Him and Ernie Hudson, I consider Congo an accent war between them.
I've never seen an actor make the best of every project he finds himself in quite like Tim Curry. His performance always has an infectious enthusiasm even in bad movies!
I think somebody is quoted as saying of him: "Tim Curry has starred in a lot of one-star reviewed films, but in every one of them, he was the reason the film got that one star."
@@billreed2750 I 1st heard that phrase in the NC's review of Home Alone 2.
Christopher Lee was very much the same way. Once made a remark to the effect of "just because you're in a bad film doesn't mean you have to be bad IN that film."
Yep. Even in that one Titanic movie made for TV where his character raped someone in the shower. He still was what kept the ship a float.😏
I'd add Michael Caine to that list of actors who always try no matter how bad the film. Would have loved to see him being directed by Steven Seagal.
The most engaging part of this movie was trying to guess where in FF8 those kids were based on the background.
Also, peak early 2000's movie gaming. Playing a single player RPG, both kids holding controllers.

I saw this in theaters as a 13yo girl and I thought it was the absolute bomb! Such a fun time for 13 to me.
Omg I was probably around the same age as well and after I saw this movie I swore I was going to become a secret agent in life 🤣
@@tashatipton2141 So true. I was like "dang, I could do that".

This further proves my point that 13 year old girls has very poor taste.
I saw it as a kid. My bike was stolen while I was in the theater. Not a fun memory, not the least of which because my home was a city over.
And is it a fun time for present-day you?
"Crispin Glover really is a one-man David Lynch movie."
The perfect description of this actor. I really enjoyed Cripin Glover as the Thin Man in this movie.
Oddly enough, Crispin Glover was in David Lynch's "Wild at Heart"
:D :D :D :D
I really like Crispin Glover. He turns up in the strangest roles.
Also let's not forget he was in Back to the Future.
“And then lick the steering wheel because…girl power. You produced this.”
Well, to be fair, Drew Barrymore supposedly came out as bi during this era.
Regardless of its minor 2000s flaws, I love how fun and campy it is. The camp and fun is much more enjoyable then the 2019 reboot
Agreed.
And these two movies were my very first introduction to Charlie's Angels.

Despite other tv shows being turned into successful movies like the Mission Impossible series, I always found the gold standard of successfully adapting a tv show into a movie to be The Fugitive
I love the 1993 Fugitive film with Harrison Ford

@@bibigamer502 yep, the opening act of the first film is very much like an episode of the show.

Just wanting to make sure you're aware that the "wailing" is actually part of the song used in the scene, Prodigy's "Smack My Bitch Up" which was a big hit in the mid 90s!
I was about to point this out.
It was also a whole controversy too.
It was a great decade.😄
Its hard to believe that Lucy Liu is now in her fifties yet still looks good!

I watched this movie first as a little girl when it came on the TV with my parents. I was probably around 7-8 years old. I thought the angels were so cool, a bit goofy, but confident in themselves and their appearance. The thing that scared me was 'The Creepy Hair Guy'. Something about his stunned mullet expression, and the animal screams after ripping out the hair frightened me as a child. But I still loved the movie, I still kinda do to this day, but it hasn't really aged well.
Oh same. This was mine and my parents go to movie when we had no idea what to watch. And the second one
Honestly the one thing i remember from this film is how incredible good the soundtrack is.
The soundtrack was pretty rad, probably the saving grace of the film.
That soundtrack was the perfect cap to my childhood
Remarkable, not good. This soundtrack is mediocre "Now that's what I call Y2k" compilation. And so is the film.
Was the soundtrack exclusively The Prodigy in this or second one?
I must admit that I see this as more of a celebrity movie. The kind of movie where you don’t see characters, but the actors themselves. Charlie is probably the only character in this movie playing off other actors who look like they were having fun.

Tamara's character reminded me of Elizabeth Banks. Because I distinctly remember her blaming men for why her version of Charlie's Angels flopped. Then, hearing Tamara saying "no, I won't" to Doug saying that she needs to understand that men are people just made me remember Elizabeth Banks' antics
What Elizabeth Banks said was blown massively out of proportion.
@DuelaDent -52 really?
You just made me remember how awesome this movie is. The music, the fight scenes and a little booty never hurt anyone.
Roger Ebert once called it "Eye candy for the blind". I wonder how he would have felt about the Elizabeth Banks version!

Roger Ebert was an ass. He was the one who praised Transformers and Home Alone 3.
I was a girl when this came out and I loved it the same way that I loved Tomb Raider, Spice World, and Josie and the Pussycats. It's campy and unapologetically feminine with fun action scenes, which was cool to see for a girl growing up it the 2000s. Charlie's Angels (2000) is a guilty pleasure of mine, probably because it came out during a particularly memorable period of my life. Lucy Liu's character is the most unassuming, but Cameron Diaz's Natalie is pure charm. She has an amazing smile! I think her character was well written, as well as Dylan, played by Drew Barrymore. Dylan is a bold and unbreakable beauty with a rough childhood. The movie should not be taken too seriously, it's a parody of serious spy action films

The one thing I love about this film is that it draws a parallel between two of the best sci-fi comedies of the 1980's, Ghostbusters and Back to the Future. It stars Bill Murrey (Peter Venkman) and Crispin Glover (George McFly).
Yep. But the sad truth is, Peter Venkman was a dick. In fact he was a complete and total asshole at times in both movies. He was obnoxious, egotistical, passive-aggressive and a blatant womanizer. But we overlook alll those things about him, because busting makes us feel good, am I right? I Ain't Fraid Of No Ghost!
Bill Murray yelled at Lucy Liu during filming, calling her "a talentless TV actress with no skills whatsoever ."
Liu walked off the set crying, but Murray apologized for his comment.
However, the incident had the producers fire him from the sequel, Charlie's Angels 2, and was replaced by Bernie Mac.
I remember my mom and dad made friends with neighbour who happens to have a daughter who is into Spice Girls and Destiny's Child. I was a little girl at that time and she was a teenager and introduced me to this film. One scene that caught my eye in Charlie's Angels is when two boys were playing Final Fantasy VIII. It is strange that FF8 is not a two-player game while FF9 technically is.

Over the top costumes were a feature of the 70's version of the show. THAT is why they have them.
this feels more like a parody movie than anything else.
Basically, what we get is if somebody took the basic concept of Charlie's Angels, placed the Angels in James Bond or Mission: Impossible-like scenarios and make it out to be some sort of self-referential postmodern parody of the TV series, a la the Brady Bunch movies from the '90s. All in all, it used the goofy tone and feel of Spice World, the action sensibilities of Hong Kong cinema, and the male gaze and hyper kinetic, glossy, music video editing and filming style of a Michael Bay movie.

I only saw it a couple of times as a kid since my aunt had a copy. I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it for its campy dumb fun. And now I feel like watching it again...
Another fun fact about this very troubled film that is ok is: Drew Barrymore was a huge "Harry Potter" fan, even going so far as to read bits of the books to the cast and crew during production. At the beginning of this movie, during the clips of previous jobs, she can be seen wearing a Harry Potter disguise, complete with robes, black hair, and round black glasses.

So I went my whole life not knowing what this movie was, but I THOUGHT I knew what it was, because I thought for the first TWENTY years of my life, that "Charlie's Angels" was actually the late 90s Disney baseball movie "Angels in the outfields", and I'm not gonna lie-
I almost would've preferred to keep it that way now that I know what this movie was, but now I have a funny story instead-
That's really the only silver lining I see-
