Note how he turns his pencil to a softer side for thicker softer shading. When you shade it gives your pencil a small chisel on the top. The sharp points he uses to hatch thin lines. Try not to turn your own pencil unless you need the sharp point, or all of your shading will be messy. If you hatch, you want the lines to be the same thickness. Keep the dull side of your graphite for the soft thick lines and soft shading

Thank you for sharing your talented art . I also assume there is a lot of regular training behind your seemingly effortless presentations.
Anyway its so valuable for us to see and hear your commentary. If you would like it could be of great interest to follow a build-up of a face also with a ballpoint pen and in real time. There it would maybe be tiresome to do the voice over....
Also if you would care to share something concerning your schooling and general art training.
    Thank you

Hi Peter, as a teen I was drawing a lot. I think most training I had comes from that time. Thank you for your nice comments. Thank you for your suggestion for a ball point drawing. I drew a lot as a teen. Then I went to artschool, The ABV in Tilburg, the Netherlands. After this I concentrated more on studying the old masters/ painting, and the old literature on art. I have started a new channel about this. ua-cam.com/video/6ZJvgZMDMBM/v-deo.html

Its an amazing painting.. thanks for the little tips.. i used ur measurement trick for drawing proportionate features and it worked wonders... Also .. previously i always used to start from the face shape which many people ask to do..in their tutorials. But since i draw with a pen.. drawing face shape first means a disaster... Your method of starting from the eyes and then moving down along with small simple measurements throughout helped a lot...

That right eye, although perhaps a tad small (constructive criticism😬), couldn’t have been drawn any better, in my opinion. It’s perfect. I love all of it, though. Your technique is loose and simplistic enough, but realistic and refined. Love the hatch work, that look. I feel getting that darkest dark is key to it’s success, as well.
