  • Welcome to our first time watching Star Wars: Episode III Revenge Of The Sith (2005)
Part 2 of 2 videos. Testing two generations. For science. Thank you for watching.
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge Of The Sith is a 2005 science fiction film written and directed by George Lucas. It stars Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Hayden Christiansen, Ian McDiarmid, Christopher Lee, Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, and Frank Oz. It is the sixth film in the Star Wars film series, the third film of the prequel trilogy. The film was produced by Lucasfilm and distributed by 20th Century Fox.
We brought the table watching these prequels, one generation whom did not like them when they were released, and now the new generation watching them for the first time without the hype and publicity. For science, this is a true and honest reaction to see how the story and filmmaking holds up to today. After the editing, we feel it's a good balanced reaction. Enjoy!

Hello there! We hope you enjoy this reaction. We have 2x reactions in one here, my second viewing after seeing it when it was released (and being a little bit of an anti-prequel fan) and my son's first time watching without all the hype and publicity and spoilers (except knowing that Anakin becomes DV). Having watched this and then in the editing, we grew to like this third one. Stick around for our summary at the end, but this film is 1000 times better than episodes 1 and 2. It's more mature emotionally and the writing feels like it's been properly redrafted to make it more polished. Please let us know how you feel about this film, the prequels and how they fit into the Star Wars saga. MTFBWY.

There are a lot of deleted scenes with Padmé, where she and a few senators build up a network to oppose Chancellor Palpatine’s totalitarian power. Like an early iteration of the rebel alliance, and it’s such a shame that they were all cut.
Because you’re totally right in how reactive she is in this film.

Commented something similar before reading comments.
I can see both sides about why they were cut: OTOH, I agree about Padme being too passive. OTOH, the scenes are just dialog about politics. Compared to some parts of the movie, they're a little boring.

There is a lot of fan theory that the Emperor was draining Padme's life force to keep Anikin alive until his life support armor could do so. Also Grievous was not a droid but kind of a crude prototype for Vader, both were cyborgs but Grievous was almost totally machine because he sustained incredible injury that took most of his body just leaving his brain, eyes, and a minimal set of organs to sustain them while Vader was mor a case of prosthetic limbs and reparatory assistance because his lungs were badly damaged when he burned, but his entire head and torso remained organic. It is also said that Vader's armor was intentionally nerfed against electrical attacks so the Emperor could easily overpower him should the need arise since Sith only appear to become masters by fratricide.

I've always found Obi-Wan's "high ground" comment as his desperate, last-ditch attempt to diffuse the fight. He simply didn't want to have to kill Anakin, and he gave one last try at throwing him off. It was never going to work, but Obi-Wan was never going to not try it.

    • @dansharp2860

Obi-Wan uses the flip over move to kill Darth Mual in TMP. Vader has just used it to get on the same platform as Kenobi. Obi-Wan is ready for it this time. Vader doesn't have the room to jump in front of Obi so it's his only move to continue the fight and they both know it. "I have the high ground" is Obi-Wan giving Vader one last chance but the Darkside has blinded him into total arrogance that he can do anything.
At least that's how I see it.

This film has a lot of story and drama compared to the previous two, because that's the story, but let's not be unfair; it would absolutely not work if it wasn't for the previous two films set up the characters, places, backstory and even the imagery. Everything flows very naturally because of that. This one doesn't go deep into explaining the world, it flips some of the elements and reveals what they truly were, been already established.
BTW, I know there's more "Star Wars", but if you watch these 6 again and let them sink in, plus you watch the Making Of documentaries here on youtube, you'll realize why George Lucas has always said he ended the saga with this one.
And I have to disagree, a lot of people did like Jar Jar, specially kids.

Yoda is going into exile on the planet Dago bah . He knows that he must wait there until the proper time to influence the future. This happens in the film where Luke skywalker ( Anakin and Padme's son) goes to Dago bah and meets Yoda to train in the original trilogy film (the empire strikes back) . Senator Organa goes into exile on the planet Alderran where he raises Padme's and Anakin's other twin who is Leiah Organa. Leiah and Luke are never told of their true parents or past of course .As you know Obi Wan goes into exile on the planet Tattooine where he secretly keeps an eye on Young Luke Skywalker until the (New Hope ) film.

Some FYI's........ As yoda was fighting daridas, he came to realize he could not winbecause yodais nearly a 1000 years old and was trained to fight the sip from those times but sideus is a new type of sith. Yoda realized he couldn't winso. He decided to go into exile and hope to train Someone in the future who could beat sidious. In combat, neither the jedi or Seth will use force choke because it takes up a lot of concentration and energy to use. And in a light saber, fight that can drain their power...... And one more thing, Padmay died not because of the forcedlook but of a broken heart. And?
Yes, it is possible to die of a broken heart. Because when that happens, you just lose your will to live. You don't want to go on. I know of 2 people who died that way. Due to various circumstances in their lives, they just couldn't go on, it's very sad.

George Lucas viewed the balance of the Force as a state of harmony where both the light and dark sides existed, but the dark side was kept in check. The balance was maintained when the light side, associated with selflessness, compassion, and harmony, prevailed. In contrast, imbalance occurred when the dark side, which is tied to selfishness, greed, and domination, gained too much power.
Lucas described the dark side as a "cancer" or corruption of the natural state of the Force. When individuals like the Sith pursued power through the dark side, it caused an imbalance by disrupting the harmony that should exist between all living things and the Force. The prophecy of the Chosen One, represented by Anakin Skywalker, was about restoring balance by destroying the Sith and their influence, which had overwhelmed the Force with darkness.
In essence, Lucas's vision of the Force was not about a neutral coexistence of good and evil, but about maintaining a natural order where the dark side was controlled, preventing its corrupting influence from spreading.

I think Lucas has made contradictory comments about the meaning of the prophecy. At some points he has said Anakin restored balance by helping Palpatine knock the Jedi down a few pegs. Those cocky SoB's needed to learn a bit about humility.
Then he reconsidered (or vice versa) and decided that the prophecy was about defeating the Sith and restoring the Republic.

Anakin doesn't have his priorities straight. The aspect of forbidding marriage is a wrong and unscriptural practice, but Anakin's obsessiveness is crazy! Although watching this shows how arrogant and frankly stupid the Emperor got by Return of the Jedi. Anakin's touchpoints were ALWAYS family (He slaughtered Tuskens who killed his Mom, his behaviour to "save" his wife), so how could he not expect a reaction when he was torturing/killing Luke and getting such obvious evil pleasure from it!

The whole ‘who is sidious’ was a cleverly done thing, with him hiding in plain sight. For a diehard starwars fan it was probably obvious but for someone who isnt, maybe not so much.
When episode 1 came out, I was a kid, and the penny dropped for me by one line he speaks at the very end, when calling anakin “young skywalker” - the way he said it gave me instant flashbacks to him calling Luke the same thing in episode 6. I remember feeling immediately stupid because of course it was him; I knew the emperors name is Palpatine (being called sidious actually confused me at the time) and they call him senator palpatine about a third of the way through that film; it made me feel so dumb i didnt realise then! 😂
It’d be interesting to know when/how others realised who he was? Was it super obvious, did it take a while, was it something someone said, recognising his mouth, his voice?

I don’t know why people love this movie. As a storyteller myself it is way too long because Lucas did not pace his trilogy properly. Too much stiff had to happen in this movie. As a result important moments got watered down. I felt nothing for any of the characters and I shed not one tear. I did not need this trilogy to show how Vader turned ( which weakened my impression of him as a villain) Lucas admits he hated directing and this trilogy shows that. Little directional changes using the same resources and dialogue could have drastically changed the mood of the series .
It comes down to simple care In storyboarding and directing.

There are 2 reasons why Obi Wan didn't finish off Anakin. Both of which are tied to the fact that he loved Anakin, past tense. In that moment there was no love for Anakin, but hate for the sith. Obi Wan wanted Anakin to suffer for his betrayal, and if Obi Wan actually went through with killing Anakin, Obi Wan would have no doubt fallen to the darkside himself. The filmmaking is just atrocious when there’s basic issues with staging and blocking of action based on how they were getting used to the new type of projection green screen dome set. The writing and concepting is like they only saw clips of A New Hope - did Leia's hologram message give off the vibes that she had already been pulling Obi-Wan into escapades when she was a girl? Watch instead the UA-cam fanfilm Darth Vader: Jedi Hunter and recognize it is indistinguishable from the source material.

In 1977 George Lucas wasn’t confident in his space saga being successful. He asked a friend what he thought of the story (Stephen Spielberg) and the advice was to offer the ‘meat’ of the story and if it was successful, make the prequels later. So, the comments about George learning as he went along wasn’t far off. The original saga was nine ‘episodes’, though the last three only had outlines of the story. Which is why new writers were necessary to fill in the blanks. People have said that the sequels are not cannon but at the core (outlines) they were.

Film of Yoda’s life superb idea 💡 as long as Dave does it and Kennedy has nothing to do with it. Great to see these films getting the love they deserve. And Vader was far stronger than obi. But Obi baits him and plays to Vader’s overconfidence. The classic underestimating your enemy and being to cocky

Padmé in this movie is a development shame cause people complained so much about the politics parts being boring, George excluded her scenes here, cause he felt stopped the plot...but they all were her with Organa and some other senators...LITERALLY SETTING THE BASES FOR THE REBELLION. she was part of the guys starting the rebellion. My beautiful ass kicking girl
no, it wasnt the force chocking. She told Anakin he was breaking her heart. Believe it or not, the broken heart syndrome does exist. AND, theorized by fans...Sidious killed her. because how did he know she was dead to tell Vader? and he knew how to manipulate the force to give life...and take it, as he did with his master darth plagueis maybe? So Padmé is also on that wrinkly bitch
Obi has the shittiest timing in the galaxy, lets just say out loud. He got our girl yelled at and choked.
if the bf is clearly jealous rambling about you, you dont stand there in "It's me grandma, Anastasia" mode
"i have the high ground" So did Maul, you lil bish, but he was decent enough to not chop legs and arms off...
I can tell you, as a teen i cried the whole movie through after Anakin pledged himsef...i couldnt deal with him going evil, everyone dying, him being the cause of everyone dying and him feeling bad because he knew he was screwing everything up.

Now watch the Clone Wars. It is set between Ep2 and Ep3, and takes place over several years. The Anakin in that show is way more likable than the Ep2 version. The show mostly focuses on Anakin, with his personal "501th" legion, and his padawan learner Ahsoka. Obi-Wan and many other characters are also frequently showing up. The show itself LOOKS to be a kids show at first, but quickly becomes more than that - darker, more mature. Season 3 and up are where it gets really good.
The Clone Wars-movie is 'alright" and should be viewed first as it establishes Ahsoka as a character (she is annoying at first, but grows out of it quickly). Then the series, which unfortunately the first 3 seasons were aired out of order. There are multiple sites listing the episodes in chronological order, and the series should absolutely be viewed in that order.

I don't know if you've noticed, but Padmé is pregnant. Normally when you're pregnant you don't work, I don't know what you want her to do.

Hi, if you’re interested in Star Wars action figures; Walmart from the US has a pre-order of the ‘The Black Series’ 6” Commander Cody along with others.
He’s the clone in white with yellow markings holding the hologram image of Darth Sidious.

I hope that you'll continue to follow Obi Wan's story during his time in the desert between episodes 3 & 4. The Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series on Disney+ would fit in chronologically before going on to Rogue One or the Sequel Trilogy.

Problem with prequels is always that we know the outcome, just not quite how it came about. And Padme giving up the will to live is just lazy writing. The rubbish Jedi against the Emperor, I mean Chancellor, shouldn't have been included. There should have been some semblance of a fight. Yoda giving up as well...The best of the prequels by far and I'd place it 5th after V, IV, VI and Rogue One.

Agreed. Scrip should have said that she died from the force choking. It would have been more balanced

Or just not give the reason she died. The audience would have pieced it together
