YCImaging it’s definitely wide but it being non fish rectilinear lens it’s awesome! I also used it with a tiffen lens filter. This lens is great for real estate (few examples on my channel) . Dope lens!
Bought this lens a few months ago. Always wanted to have an option for Terrence Malick or Kubrick-like wides on the GH5 and G7, and this one gives that perfect 15mm extension of space. Absolutely love it!
dude, I just discovered your channel , it's great. Great shots and great production. I have a Laowa 10-18 that I used mainly for real estate, but I just put it on my Sony FX3 and it looks pretty nice. now I'm going to have to get that for my GH5.
to be blunt, only in my office hahah. I have not taken it out for any real jobs or test, but now, I'm going to pull that thing out and slap it on for a up and coming gig. it could be the insane magic lens,,, or just be too difficult to use due to it's features. I'll get back to you with some test shots asap. @@360shutters9
Here's a hint. Ebay occasiobnally has these 15% off deals (usually announced at the M43rumors website). And a lot of retailers like Adorama sell through Ebay. So keep an eye out. Next time that 15% discount comes out, get the code, shop Ebay, and it might make it affordable. (I got my GH5s for about $1700 with a combination open-box sale, and 15% off coupon.)
Kubrick liked wide lenses, usually shooting 22mm and wider. By the way, when he and Geoffrey Unsworth shot 2001, he found that the lenses provided by Panavision weren't sharp enough... so he had his camera retooled to use his Nikon still camera lenses. They kept that secret for years because of Panavision's licensing agreements.
Me personally I like a good even balance of both wide and close up shots. Too much of one can kill the visual like you said and make the video boring to a degree so having a good mixture of both is good.
Excellent demo and presentation. For the walking, zooming and panning shots (early in the vid), what camera and stabilizer were you using? Thanks man! Subbed!
For some reason not too many people ever talk about this and manual focus. It is something really good to know that given a focal length for a given lens, there is a certain aperture setting that will let everything be in focus from a certain distance from the lens onward out to infinity. The wider the lens, that distance from the lens becomes shorter. It is at that point outward to infinity that is in focus. That is why wider lenses are really good for this as the fstop does not need to be stepped too far from max aperture to achieve this. On larger focal length lenses there is not enough aperture stops to make that distance from the lens workable. Anyway, just thought I would mention that here as your statement is very powerful and more people need to know this.
Love the shots of Charlottesville, I can place some of these locations... I was just down there wandering around every evening during a work training week in August 😂
Imaging, have you determined if infinity coincides with the focus ring's infinity, or do you always back off from infinity a little, even when shooting distant objects? I don't know if I can trust my Laowa's focus ring to coincide with infinity in the field.
Why do people always compare things to “full frame”? There are people who has never shot film/35mm and they have no clue. Put a m4/3, apsc, or a medium format in their hands and they wouldn’t know what you are talking about comparing it to “full frame”.
I’m glad you made this video cuz I’m contemplating getting the tokina 11-16. BTW, that new LUT is clean 👌🏽 Love the new tweaks you’re making in your videos too 💯
Another Dope video! Amazing cinematic widoe shots😋 I also have a youtube channel try to put all your tips and tricks into practice. Any feedback is highly appreciated.
Thanks for doing this! I was playing with this at NAB. and I was peeking at it online today. I was concerned about distortion even though it should be minimal. But looking at your footage it looks great! I'm sold ;)
This doesn’t have to do with the video but it something that has come to annoy me. These Cameras such as the GH5 A7r, a6500 etc are such great cameras. The problem I have is that you tubers who aren’t even pros make them seem bad because Panasonic doesn’t have the greatest auto-focus or Sony doesn’t have a flip out screen. I just think it’s really annoying
Question, please answer this 😭 what FPS were you shooting? Was it 60? And you slowed it down slightly like 20%? And to give it that smooth slow down did you bring it down to 40%? Lol
What a great lens! First vid I’ve watched of yours and this was great! Super cool laid back style of presenting the info but a thorough look at the product! Awesome! 👍👍
This is a 15mm equivalent btw because of crop factor so not true 7.5mm. Which is why it has to be 7.5mm because then it becomes a pretty standard wide angle lens when putting on a micro four thirds.
personally miss these straight up straight to it videos you used to do.... great having story and all and stretching videos for youtube algarythms, but with so much content out there... ...well i miss the good old days
I have the Tokina 11-16 2.8. With a Speedbooster it can match both the angle of view and apature of the Laowa (though obviously is a bit larger and heavier). Is there a real advantage in getting the Laowa over the Tokina other than physical size? How different is it optically?
Was looking at the 7.5 before getting the Viltrox and 11-16 with my G85. I love the weight of the Tokina, but the Laowa's size is crazy, especially for vlogs or something.
I JUST grabbed a Rokinon 12mm f2 for my a6300 and it's dope!! Crazy how I felt the same. I used to shoot wide and went with more macro type b-roll, and I've found myself wanting to shoot wider recently. Plus the 12mm will be awesome for real estate now that I've been shooting those more this year. Good stuff as usual YC. Salute.
Just came in the mail today from Amazon. Looking forward to shooting with it. Im doing a lil more real estate video and photo so this lens should be perfect with my GH5. Thanks YC for the vid helped a lot.
Wide or nah?
YCImaging it’s definitely wide but it being non fish rectilinear lens it’s awesome! I also used it with a tiffen lens filter. This lens is great for real estate (few examples on my channel) . Dope lens!
It's a super sick lens, I bought it cause of you over a year ago. Great, great lens. Keep up the videos!
I HAVE A BLACKMAGIC! THANKS BUDDY!
So wide! Love it man...
Love the wide angle look! Awesome vid!
This my favorite M43 lens. I don't use it alot in client work, but for my youtube videos and vlogs I love it.
Dude your UA-cam growth is crazy. It feels like it was just a few months ago you were at like under 40k subs man 👊🏾 keep grinding
Love that shot at 5:03! Could easily use that for a 3rd person GTA video game video, so stabile, too.
Bought this lens a few months ago. Always wanted to have an option for Terrence Malick or Kubrick-like wides on the GH5 and G7, and this one gives that perfect 15mm extension of space. Absolutely love it!
I am looking at the Tokina 11 - 16 2.8 for my GH5 with a speedbooster but my friend told me about this Laowa. Which do you like better?
Just get both! LOL. Adorama already hates you.
Wow the man is wearing the dharma initiative tee! Shout out the Lost fans haha but I’m thinking I may need that lens..
Tyler Nadolny first thing I noticed too!
dude, I just discovered your channel , it's great. Great shots and great production. I have a Laowa 10-18 that I used mainly for real estate, but I just put it on my Sony FX3 and it looks pretty nice. now I'm going to have to get that for my GH5.
How is it for fx3 does it look funny since it isn’t a full frame lens ?
to be blunt, only in my office hahah. I have this lens on my GM1 - its brilliant !
Been looking at this lense for a minute.... Couldn't ever get myself to justify the 500$ price though. But it looks dope.
Its worth it bro.
That's because you can use that lens only for video purpose and not for photo since you don't have AF...

Not when you consider the fact that it's actually a 15mm because of the crop
he used speedbooster tho?
nice video thanks I used your link and got one for my gh5s!
Subbed for the shirt (haha and for the good review of a lens that I kinda want!)
Great video! Would you recommend the loawa 7.5 with Panasonic G7 for real estate videos?
My go to Real estate set up
I just bought the Tokina for my Viltrox (GH5) 😅
How do you like the Tokina with your GH5? I'm also looking at the OLYMPUS M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm F2.8 Pro Lens.
Would the Laowa 7.5mm T2.9 s35 lens be 100% compatible with the Canon R50 shooting real estate photos and video? Thanks in advance.
Love the tracking-shot at 5:05 - it gave me that Kubrick vibe! Thanks for the review
Excellent demo and presentation. For the walking, zooming and panning shots (early in the vid), what camera and stabilizer were you using? Thanks man! Subbed!
I m also using Ronin S and Laowa 7.5mm. This setup is dope. There are hyper focus distances scale on the lens. Focusing is not problems.
Kelvin ZyTenG you set it to f4 and everything is in focus ?

I had the tokina 11-16 f2.8. then lumix 7-14 f4.. now laowa 7.5mm f2.0... i also never use autofocus. Ever.
I'm a new subscriber, and man I love your style
This lens vs gopro hero 7 black? They're quite close price wise, and to me it makes sense to shoot wide shots on a gopro
Actually I just thought of some reasons. The gopro struggles with low light, and it wouldn't get any depth of field on close subject
Is a little expensive, just because the taxes of import rigth make this lens a 680 dollars in my country. But really nice image quality.
I have the same exact Dharma patch on a sweatshirt (patch bought separately on ebay)
Lost is probably the best TV series that has ever existed :D
My dude, I have 0 confidence in my ability to frame/follow/focus on any mid/medium shots. I can only do wide or tight.
Dude, i totally love you for havin that dharma shirt. Nohomo
Yoooo this dope yci! Might consider getting to up my vlogs! Keep it coming for us ⚡️⚡️⚡️
7.5 mm with crop factor (*MFT Crop Factor is 2.0) 15mm. Whats is different ? Why u dont buy then normal 15mm lens :))
Why do people always compare things to “full frame”? There are people who has never shot film/35mm and they have no clue. Put a m4/3, apsc, or a medium format in their hands and they wouldn’t know what you are talking about comparing it to “full frame”.
Is this better than the OLYMPUS M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm F2.8 Pro Lens?
Is it better to buy the 7.5mm T2.1 cine version or the regular F2.0 version for GH5?
what is the difference between f2 and T2.1?
7 artisans 7.5 - f/2.8 is $150 for us broke folk. Great video
Good video. How does it compare to your tokina 11-16mm @11mm?
You raw. Been in tune with ya work. I just now discover this lens, search it up and your video the 2nd to pop up.
hi friend please can I use this link for my blackmagic Pocket 4k ?
Hi friend please can I use for my blackmagic Pocket 4k ?
that sky at @5:14 oh my DAYS! why cant I get my gh5 to behave like that?
My fav lens for the GH5
I’m glad you made this video cuz I’m contemplating getting the tokina 11-16. BTW, that new LUT is clean 👌🏽 Love the new tweaks you’re making in your videos too 💯
Jon Sanchez Thanks Jon!
i wanted this lens for ages and now i have to buy it dammit
Had to subscribe for Darma #WeHaveToGoBack
I like how 7mm looks
10/10 for the Dharma shirt..lost for life.
What??? Stick a KOWA 6mm f1.8 C-Mount on then we'll see what WIDE is...
Dude , i have a7iii , that means i can’t use 7.5mm one ???
Another Dope video! Amazing cinematic widoe shots😋 I also have a youtube channel try to put all your tips and tricks into practice. Any feedback is highly appreciated.
Wow THE WAY YOU MANIPULATE AND CREATE A CINEMATIC LOOK FROM THE CANON T3I is amazingg!! Keep up the good work!!
Thanks man this really means a lot! I really appreciate your comment 😉.
@@KurtMicallef Np bro great stuff keep up the good work!!
Oh f*ck he works for the Dharma. Kate we have to go back!
Thanks dude, after i watched your vidéo i will buy this lense !!!!
Wide
hai sir its so nice , sir i wanna do prject with you , pls say yes for me
Thanks for doing this! I was playing with this at NAB. and I was peeking at it online today. I was concerned about distortion even though it should be minimal. But looking at your footage it looks great! I'm sold ;)
hey dude, amazing video...just a question for sony E doesnt existe the 7.5mm?
Subscribed my man!

great having story and all and stretching videos for youtube algarythms, but with so much content out there... ...well i miss the good old days
For 500$ is not worth it
Totally rate this lens! Between this bad boy and the Sigma Art 18-35 tbh I never really use any other lens on my GH5...
gonna get it for travel vids and would be great for hotel room perspectives
I like the wide angle shots as long as they're on a gimble or some other stabilizer
Dope!! But it's 900 bucks on the Sony Side. That's pretty steep for a lens with no Autofocus. I love the wide look tho. It's pretty versatile
Great info as usual!! Would this be good for real estate?
I’d say yes
Awesome for real estate.
I bought this for real estate 12mm wasn’t wide enough
Sick look with this lens, recently got it myself man!
I have the Tokina 11-16 2.8. With a Speedbooster it can match both the angle of view and apature of the Laowa (though obviously is a bit larger and heavier). Is there a real advantage in getting the Laowa over the Tokina other than physical size? How different is it optically?
Same here. I cant find any comparison in terms of IQ. Dont u know any diff between this two?
If I have already a 12-60 (Panasonic), do you think make sense to add this lens in my setup?
Sorry if I missed it, but I'd like to know how you go on about fixing the lens distortion in premiere?
Was looking at the 7.5 before getting the Viltrox and 11-16 with my G85. I love the weight of the Tokina, but the Laowa's size is crazy, especially for vlogs or something.
May I know if the lens cap can be removed
not if youre on m43 lol, True Ultrawide rectilinear is canon 11-24mm f4 on Fullframe
I JUST grabbed a Rokinon 12mm f2 for my a6300 and it's dope!! Crazy how I felt the same. I used to shoot wide and went with more macro type b-roll, and I've found myself wanting to shoot wider recently. great video thank you
Did you switch back to the GH5 from A7III?
I use 15mm voightlander iii full frame on my Leica SL and i love it. Plan on uploading some videos next week.
Thanks for the awesome video I’m going to get this lense for some awesome wide epic shots of London for my suspense movie.
A
Amazing
How does this compare to the Laowa 9mm e mount on A6500?
Hello I want to use this lens with canon camera do you know mtf to ef mount?
can you use this lens on a GH5 without a metabones speed booster?
I have one of this. Mount on gimbal, really amazing.
Nothing is too wide. (coming from an avid 11mm shooter)
Sony version of this is about $300 more
Just came in the mail today from Amazon. Looking forward to shooting with it. Im doing a lil more real estate video and photo so this lens should be perfect with my GH5. Thanks YC for the vid helped a lot.
Ycimaging how long did it take you to grow out your hair
but that would be 15mm f4 for you sir
I love the look of it. Not much distortion from what I can tell.
??Would you recommend this lens for filmmaking and cinematography
Hey man great vid! Did you use a guimbal on the walking shots?
2 questions for you. First, what are your thoughts on the G9? also, are you shooting with canon lenses on your GH5?
Not at all, with no distortion - great lens for establishing shots.
