Nice. I've a 1996 993 C2 iris blue metallic, 66,000 miles, 6-speed manny tranny, varioram, LSD. No CEL, no oil leaks. Multi-show full-concours winner. I do my own maintenance. I'm never selling it.
I use my 993 C4 all year around. Your C4S is a very good example. I agree the steering is not as nice as the C2, but such low numbers produced mean buying the best car you can afford always means a compromise. I prefer the narrow bodied cars, but any 993 is a good buy and a lovely drive.
Definitely a keeper...superb car from a superb era. Back in the day when 'the model down from the range topper' was still great. 306 GTI & 306 XSI, Impreza STI & WRX, Cerbera V8 & speed six, Esprit V8 & GT3 being cases in point....
Have owned my 993 C4S for over 20 years and wont sell it in my lifetime. Had a Carrera S and narrow body Carrera but none were as well rounded and ticked all the boxes like the 4S. The Carrera S steering was not much better. By comparison my narrow body Carrera steered better but that was after some modifications to suspension, wheels and a Momo Prototipo. But I like the ability to push harder on less ideal back roads in the 4S.
Great vid guys. Seeing all the details takes me back to being a 10 year old back in the late nineties when my Dad had a Zenith blue 993 C2S. The best car he ever owned. Seeing this video reminds me about just how amazing it was. Definitely the car my Dad never should have sold!! Thanks for the nostalgia guys! Still my favourite gen of 911. 🙏
This was a great review! You and your mate have such a complementary rapport- each of you is critical of different things, but offer the critiques in a fun, engaging way. You can tell you guys have been friends a long time.
The 993 has always been one of my favourite designs of 911. Not got the horrid big plastic bumpers of the 964 and better looking than the 996. The spec of yours is just about spot on. I'd probably get rid of the Techart rear spoiler TBF and keep it looking standard.
As a 70s baby, Forest Green is something quintessentially 90s for me. I recall that greens were scoffed at as being something that was out of style back then. And this color brought it back. I think it still holds up today. I love the wing, but would probably be annoyed if it was the cause of the scraping. So toss up there. Would be great to find a way to keep it. Continue to love the videos guys. All these years on.
Great video lads. I have the exact some colour and interior spec 993, except mine is a C2S. The steering feel and precision on the C2S is absolutely glorious.
Great episode. Not a Porsche guy me but nonetheless. A great fun entertaining watch. Glad Yr man Jason was there. Love his honesty. Keep it up guys. Can't wait until Fiday.
As an owner of many 911s, the 993 is the best, IMO. Even compared to my new 992GT3 (lovely and brilliant that it is, it lacks soul and analog driver experience that the 993 gives). 👍👍 Really good summary Guys. Truely worthy of your garage. A turbo does have power to override the steering feel but costs a lot more to maintain (eg have to remove the intercooler often to get to the engine). PS, leave the techart spoiler on it. The spare lid that you have is NOT a C4S, it is from a C2S.
Outstanding video gentlemen! The door sound took me back to my youth and by brothers 911. The sound of it opening is a sound I will never forget. Thank you for the wonderful memories. Cheers!
Damian - maybe consider a chassis set-up at Centre Gravity ? They can work wonders turning the most reluctant chassis into a car that flows with you and the road. Also the process is fascinating ... might make a nice vid (no allegiance to CG)
For the first time, I'm Forest Green with jealousy. This is my fave 911, and with prices as crazy as they've become, it's unlikely I'll be able to afford one, or ever drive one. Thanks for sharing!
It is funny how times change. I owned a 993 C2 in period (for 15 years) and always lusted over the C4S (with leather trim and xenon lights). I get my period fun now from a 348, but do miss the 993 - it did everything well.
Its strange how the 993 is not more popular, to me it's the best looking air cooled 911. I think the 930's popularity with builders like Rauh Welt and Singer has effected it.
I’ve seen this beast in the Flesh (the 993 not Damian) and confirm the camera does not do it justice ! Just needs a sound system to bring it into 2023 and this would make a great daily ! Keep making amazing videos you two hooligans ! ❤
Loved mine; had it when it was the current model. “Triple Black” as our American cousins would say… black paint, black leather and black convertible roof. Fair to say the tiptronic gearbox wasn’t to everybody’s taste but a godsend in traffic . 👍
14:45 The Le Mans explanation of the starter key position is a myth that can't be killed. I don't believe it. Because the car would already sit in first gear when the driver comes running over and starts it. In that regard there is no need for a free left hand. Here in Germany, its homeland, the key is on the left while in normal cars it's on the right. Porsche says the heart beats on the left. A much cuter explanation. 😉
I own now my third 993.A C2 Cabriolet with varioram engine and manual shifter. Had the same creepy Becker stereo. Replaced it with a Blaupunkt Bremen with DAB 😊Definitely to recommend!
I love the looks & The Colour. It’s just so, so, so-right. The size of the 993 C4S just sits right with Me. V informative as always D&J. I’ve just re-watched it again as I do nearly all of Your Videos (they’re just the right duration for me - I find it hard to sit down in one place for too long) & I spotted a few sample bottles in the glove box!. During my years of Rehab from My Special Type of Vodka and Devils Dandruff and used to have lots of the old “sample bottles” rattling around, I get ya 😜😘 Oddly enough I bought a Jag XFR one Friday night Lagged up, back in the bad old days…..living in Leeds the trip down to Guildford to collect the car the following week wasn’t one of my better moves…….
Lovely spec and learnt a lot on the 993! A lot of effort obviously went into pulling the review together. Exactly the colour scheme I would order for it 👍
aaargh!!! ...That squint left rear exhaust tip doesn't do much for my OCD.. Apart from that.. :This review makes me want to get one!! Great video as ever!!
Great vid as I'm thinking of buying a 993 in 2025. I've owned a green and tan car , although it was a 71 MK3 Cortina. Also 70's cars could have a great sound to Webber carb in the Cortina was adorned with a metal oil soaked pancake air filter which you would get from Halfords and give you a nice induction noise . Further tuning would be a pair of furry dice, a radio centre consol, fibre glass wippy ariel , stick on rear window heater and furry seat covers , all from Halfords .
I’ve had two 993s a C2 and a turbo, this really makes me miss them, fantastic cars to own, parts are getting pricey though! If it were mine I’d lose the big rear wang, the standard one shows off the lovely lines better ….. enjoy it though 👍🏻
The car is really superb! Thanks for the great description of all details! In my eyes forestgreen is the best you can get. My own C4S is oakgreen, also pretty seldom. And never forget that green is the favourite colour of the Porsche family😉
I have had a Midnight Blue Carrera 2 for 16 years! Great cars. You need to get the inside of the wheel arches rolled at the top to stop the scraping. Not a difficult job. Engine is lovely and unburstable and the build quality is superb. Main things to watch are always dry the brakes before garaging or the inner disc faces corrode and don't let water sit under the corners of the windscreen and rear screen after washing the car or the frames will rot! Rear bumper stays eventually rot out, plastic head covers crack and heat protection round exhaust is prone to rattle! Air con is not brilliant even when working properly and is expensive to fix. Oh, and mine has doubled in value since I bought it!
I'm half way through and loving it. Jason buying this Land Rover Green and tan 993 whilst drunk on an auction site whilst considering he picked up the car from Scotland I bet the seller was too. "I paid a bit over the odds" In hindsight it does not matter, a fantastic back story.
Great review guys. There's an easy fix for the heavy steering involving a revision to the suspension geometry so that it's closer to that of the RS. It makes a huge difference to the way the car feels. I love that colour combination.
I owned a Carrera S and then a 4S for a decade. Personally I much preferred the steering feel and nose weight of the 4 Vs the 2. The 2 was always light and floaty not inspiring confidence. Lovely cars and though I’m not missing mine too badly, it was a fantastic car that provided a lot of enjoyment in my time with it.
Very nice. Looks no different to the turbo 993 which I think is goat looking 911. And the spec is lovely and like a jag, part carpet doors! And sunroof!

I used to have a 993 convertible in iris blue with blue interior when I was 27. I traded my 964 for this car. It's been a bad discission. 964 always. Now 23 years later.
I want one, but a Targa model. I own a 2003 996 Targa S , all black and full leather with over 162,000 km and the IMS was sorted by the 2nd owner, its a standard. It is my 2nd car. Also have a daily thats a HONDA Civic from 1995
@@TheCarGuysTV What a special episode, forget the awesome car for one moment, I could really see the passion of that vehicle coming through... awesome commentary and lots of knowledge on offer which kept me watching until the end. The intake noise that kicks around 5,500 RPM is the varioram. Not a tech but I’m theory after those RPM airflow in the air goes through some other channels of the intake manifold to guarantee full torque.

Also have a daily thats a HONDA Civic from 1995
993 is most modern designed looking Porsche. It’s my fav.
Oh oh anything on your radar @Silverstone Auctions today? My pick HF Integrale Evo 11...ex Rowan A. To replace the 993.Jason would approve?
Jason would definitely approve!

@@TheCarGuysTV What a special episode, forget the awesome car for one moment, I could really see the passion of that vehicle coming through... awesome commentary and lots of knowledge on offer which kept me watching until the end. Love the purchase story, my own 981 GT4 was seen and purchased within minutes before I could even think about it. Sometimes these spur of the moment decisions are best, and after your videos on EVs and it must be an extra special treat to enter that time machine of a Porsche. Very happy for you, your enthusiasm and banter was set to 11 for this video 😁
@@MAXREVS Appreciate that, my friend.
