- Lets take a look at the STUDIO UNDERD0G Desert Sky. An affordable Chronograph punching at a great design-price point, but is it all roses or is the Chinese movement a concern? Let's discuss.
Great review! I'm glad you're enjoying the Desert Sky and my approach to the industry :)
Cheers,
Richard
My pleasure! Thanks for the awesome designs Richard!
@@HarrisonElmore Which one/s of the ‘awesome’ designs did you buy with your own money to own and wear?
Love my studio underdog watch limited edition strawberries and cream ❤ ... met Richard sound guy 👍
Nice!
I like the fresh dial designs of Studio Underdog. The movement has a fascinating history, as it is essentially a Venus 175, which dates back to the 1940s. Tianjin Watch Co. purchased the machinery and blueprints for the 175 movement from Venus in 1961, and reworked the movement with a higher beat rate and more jewels. I have this movement in my Seagull 1963 and it has been very reliable. There is some quality variance between movements (some have insufficient lubrication when assembled). But for the $150 I paid for my Seagull 1963, it is quite the bargain for a column wheel mechanical chronograph. BTW, Venus was absorbed by rival movement manufacturer Valjoux in 1966.
It’s a Seagull movement as found in some cheaper watches but these movements have been regulated when the watch is assembled in the UK.
I'm not much of a Chronograph guy...I do have a few in my collection. That being said, the design, color options, the dial...I really like this Chrono...it's original, fresh and well put together...it "flows" if you will. Unique is a great word! I agree about the movement...it's okay, it keeps the price down...but I have to say...I would happily pay $1000.00 for this design with a better Chrono movement in it. Just my 2 cents.
I am not a chronograph guy either, but I do have none in my collection because I am not a chronograph guy.
They are great. Hope to have my own someday
I would love to see a Chronographph movement explanation that you mentioned
I’ll put it on the list
I’m with you - fun in a watch
I have the mint choc chip and love it
Nice! That’s a cool one too
Nice watch the watermelon and harder to get hold of at list than a Daytona! Says it all good value and rare.
Agreed!
Out dated tech hahahahah are not all mechanical watches outdated hahah touché. Great bid I enjoyed it thank you for you time.
Can you review a Baltic Tricompax? They are sexy and about to restock in September.
I’ll try to reach out to Baltic!
I really love the design ethos, but I just wonder why they haven’t sought a better movement and increased their pricing after the initial success ….
My guess is they’re worried the price point is a large driver of their current success! We’ll see what comes next!
@@HarrisonElmore it probably is, to a degree, but I’d be happy to pay the difference if they started using even an entry level Sellita or similar.
Yep, that’ll be me 🙌
I'll buy this desert sky today on preorder ...❤ the design 🇮🇱
Cool cheeky watch
Agreed!
I like the Watermelon, however all the others fall short, and are getting pricey
I love my watermelon :)
have you sold your rolexes yet?
"great watch at a cool price" or "cool watch at a great price"
Cool watch at a great price I’d say
Is the title supposed to be "Who Hates an Underdog"?
Yes. Clearly I'm not immune to typo's! All fixed
