  • The difference between a male and a female cockatiel:
    1. Coloration:
    - Male Cockatiel: Often, male cockatiels have brighter and more vivid colors. For example, in the common grey variety, males have bright yellow faces and bright orange cheek patches.
    - Female Cockatiel**: Females tend to have duller colors. In the grey variety, females have more muted yellow faces and less vivid orange cheek patches. Additionally, females often have barring (striping) on the underside of their tail feathers.
    2. Behavior:
    - Male Cockatiel: Males are generally more vocal and tend to sing, whistle, and mimic sounds more often. They also perform more elaborate courtship displays, including bowing and spreading their wings.
    - Female Cockatiel**: Females are usually quieter and less likely to mimic sounds. They may exhibit nesting behaviors and can be more reserved.
    3. DNA Testing:
    - For a definitive determination, a DNA test can be conducted. This involves sending a sample of the bird’s feathers or blood to a laboratory for analysis.
    4. Physical Examination:
    - Experienced avian veterinarians or breeders can often determine the sex of a cockatiel through physical examination, looking at specific anatomical features.

Great video with a lot of details, thanks! It seems like the sound for female & male cockatiel did not make it through to the UA-cam, possibly you could have a look?
